What

Replaces the anchored comment popover on apps/mobile page comments with a single bottom sheet, adds a native module for its quick replies, and makes the all-comments screen share the same composer.

Before After
Surface floating card placed by popoverPlacement() one formSheet route
Quick replies icon row inside the card UIKit buttons with SF Symbols, under the composer
Presets a second sheet pushed from the card a native UIMenu anchored to the ellipsis
Keyboard keyboardWillShow listeners + a 250ms withTiming settle UIKit
Dismissal an ✕ plus a pointer-down message from inside the WebView drag, tap-outside, swipe

Why

The card had to be placed, and placement kept losing. It started at an assumed ESTIMATED_HEIGHT and moved after onLayout, so the first frame was wrong. It modelled the keyboard by hand. And on a tall block both branches of the flip covered the block being commented on: below didn't fit, above sat on top of it.

A sheet has no placement. It's bottom-anchored at a height that fits its contents, and on iOS 26 a partial detent is Liquid Glass that floats clear of the edges, so the page stays visible behind it.

The native module

apps/mobile/AGENTS.md says a sheet body is RN + uniwind and never @expo/ui SwiftUI content. But an anchored menu is presented by UIKit outside the React Native view tree — JS can't draw one without it clipping to the sheet and hand-imitating the material, the animation and the VoiceOver semantics.

The house answer is a module of our own: alert-prompt wraps UIAlertController, composer already uses UIMenu. So this adds @superset/symbol-button — a UIButton whose content is an SF Symbol, which given items carries a UIMenu with showsMenuAsPrimaryAction. enabled maps to isEnabled, so a disabled quick reply stops taking taps rather than only dimming.

The branch's first cut used @expo/ui and was replaced (486ee6c4d) to honour the rule.

Its event is onTap, not onPress: React Native registers topPress as a direct event, and a view manager declaring the same name as bubbling makes registration throw.

Also in here

  • The page header is now glass with no title (pageScreenOptions → glassHeaderOptions). Four toolbar buttons plus a title read as compressed, and pages carry their own title in the content. The WebView's contentInset exists because of that: getBoundingClientRect() inside the document doesn't know about a native content inset, so the pin/highlight overlay starts at the same offset or every pin sits a header's height too high.
  • popoverPlacement (shared with desktop) gains a bottom clamp so a flipped card can't run off the container.
  • A bun patch drops expo-observe's podspec from Swift 6 to 5 — under Xcode 26.3 its mutable global state is a fatal diagnostic and blocked every local iOS build. Behaviour-neutral (no Swift-6-only syntax in the package), with a guard test in the house style per patches/README.md.
  • formatRelativeTime fell back to format(0), which numeric: "always" renders as "in 0s" — a freshly posted comment read as the future for its first second.
  • Three new i18n ids (quick-reply labels with a context), translated in all 17 locales.
  • The design plan is committed under plans/.

Testing

  • packages/shared and packages/i18n suites pass; tsc --noEmit, biome and check:i18n clean
  • Driven end to end on the simulator with Maestro against the production API: page → comment mode → block → typed post, thumbs-up, menu preset → pins → all comments → reply. Both native events reach JS and create threads.

Known gaps

  • A selection low on the page can sit behind the sheet. Scrolling it into view needs a smooth scroll-into-view on the frame protocol; the existing restore-scroll jumps instantly and locks scrolling for ~1s.
  • The sheet has no ✕ and no grabber, so swipe-down is the only exit — the one gesture VoiceOver and Switch Control users can't perform.
  • On a dark page, Liquid Glass shows page text through the sheet's bottom safe-area band. That band is outside the React view, so it can't be tinted from RN without a visible seam.
  • Quick replies dim once a draft exists, with no cue that clearing the field brings them back.

Tapping a block in comment mode placed a card beside it with
popoverPlacement(), which flipped it above or below the block, clamped it
under the glass header, and subtracted the keyboard from the container so it
had somewhere to land. On a tall block both branches covered the thing being
commented on, the first frame rendered at an assumed height and then moved,
and quick feedback was a second surface pushed from inside a card that was
imitating a sheet.

Selecting a block now opens one formSheet route. iOS gives it the material,
the placement, the keyboard choreography and drag-to-dismiss, so the manual
keyboard listeners, the withTiming settle and the hand-built dismissal are
gone. The quick replies sit under the composer as native SwiftUI controls
with SF Symbols, and the presets that needed their own sheet are a native
menu on the same row.

CommentComposer is now the single comment box - text area on top, an actions
slot and the send button beneath - so the all-comments reply bar picks up the
same shape instead of a second lookalike. Comment cards there carry a
relative timestamp, which is what every other surface in the app shows.

Notes on the parts that are not layout:

- The frame's contentInset moves the rendered content down by the header
height, but getBoundingClientRect() inside the document does not know that,
so the pin and highlight overlay is offset by the same inset. Without it
every pin sat a header's height too high.
- popoverPlacement keeps the bottom clamp, which fixes a flipped card
overflowing the container on the desktop surface too, and loses the
insetTop parameter now that the mobile caller is gone.
- app.config.ts gains an APP_VARIANT dev build so a device carrying the
released app can run a second copy. The app group is derived from the
bundle id in the config and in both Swift targets, because a group belongs
to the team that registered it and a build signed by another team needs its
own - a literal in one place and a conditional in the other would have left
the Live Activity icon cache silently reading the wrong container.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The mobile page-comment flow now opens a fit-to-contents sheet for a selected page anchor. It adds native quick-reply controls, updates existing comment replies and presentation, and adjusts popover placement. The repository also adds an ExpoObserve podspec patch that changes its Swift version.

Changes

Mobile page comments

Layer / File(s) Summary
Route anchor picks to the comment sheet
apps/mobile/app/(authenticated)/_layout.tsx, apps/mobile/app/(authenticated)/pages/[slug]/comment.tsx, apps/mobile/app/(authenticated)/pages/[slug]/quick.tsx, apps/mobile/screens/(authenticated)/pages/[slug]/*, apps/mobile/screens/(authenticated)/pages/[slug]/comment/*, apps/mobile/screens/(authenticated)/pages/[slug]/components/{CommentComposer,CommentPopover,ComposerActions,PageFrame}/*
The page screen stores a selected anchor and navigates to the new comment route. CommentSheet reads the stored page, version, and anchor, then creates a thread. PageFrame uses the navigation header height as its top content inset. The old popover and quick-feedback sheet are removed.
Add native quick-reply controls
apps/mobile/modules/symbol-button/*, apps/mobile/metro.config.js, apps/mobile/tsconfig.json, apps/mobile/screens/(authenticated)/pages/[slug]/components/QuickReplies/*, packages/i18n/locales/*/messages.po
Quick-reply buttons and presets use the new SymbolButton native module. Preset icons are SF Symbol names. Locale catalogs add context to three button labels; the translations remain unchanged.
Update existing comment replies and presentation
apps/mobile/screens/(authenticated)/pages/[slug]/comments/*, apps/mobile/screens/(authenticated)/pages/[slug]/components/CommentRow/CommentRow.tsx, packages/shared/src/page-comments/popoverLayout.ts, packages/shared/src/page-comments/popoverLayout.test.ts
The reply bar remains open until a reply succeeds, and it no longer includes quick replies. Thread styling changes, and comment timestamps use compact relative time. Popover placement is clamped to the visible bounds, with tests for keyboard-constrained and below-visible-area anchors.
Document the page-comment sheet proposal

The HTML proposal includes mockups, implementation comparisons, open questions, and references.

ExpoObserve Swift-version patch

Layer / File(s) Summary
Register and validate the ExpoObserve patch
package.json, patches/expo-observe@57.0.19.patch, apps/mobile/expo-observe-swift-version-patch.test.ts, patches/README.md
The patch changes the ExpoObserve podspec Swift version from 6.0 to 5.0. The root configuration registers the patch, and the test checks patch coverage and the installed podspec value.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 90b30

When a user selects a textless block near the bottom, the sheet can cover it without showing an anchor label, leaving the comment's target unclear. This is a narrow case, but keeping the selection visible would make the flow more reliable.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 90b30

The reviewed mobile flows still use the existing comment and reply operations, and no authorization bypass or materially expanded access was demonstrated. Server-side enforcement and retry behavior remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated new interaction reaches page-comment creation from the authenticated mobile sheet, not a new privileged native or server sink. Its effective server-side access scope cannot be established from the inspected client code.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Quick-reply taps supply fixed bodies and intents, and preset selections are matched against configured preset IDs before submission. The native view forwards selections; authorization and persistence remain beyond this UI boundary.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Component-level single-flight checks and mutation rollback cover ordinary overlap and reported failures, but do not establish deduplication after a timeout, remount, or process interruption. No PR-worsened duplicate-write exposure was demonstrated.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Verify server-side page and thread authorization and document whether create and reply mutations deduplicate retries after an ambiguous result; client submission guards are not substitutes for either guarantee.

No installed development build can load this pull request as an update: its native fingerprint is 7084d376924a and no development build has it. Add the mobile-build label to build one.

Leaves the ones documenting constraints that live outside the repo: the
API's trustedOrigins and pinned Apple audience, the app-group/bundle-id
invariant the Swift targets share, the document-vs-screen coordinate gap
behind the overlay offset, and why the selection commits after the push.

Comment thread apps/mobile/app.config.ts Resolved
The guard resolved, which CommentComposer reads as success before it clears
the body — a send landing while a quick reply is in flight wiped what was
typed. Quick replies return early instead, so a double tap is silent rather
than an alert.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Correct the app-group suffix, but classify this as a minor icon fallback issue.

The extension derives a group ending in .AgentActivity, which does not match the configured group. cachedIcon(_:) can therefore return nil, and ProjectIcon renders the project initial.

The app’s start and update functions pass state directly to ActivityKit. The app-side icon cache uses the host bundle identifier and the configured group. The extension-side mismatch does not prevent live activities from rendering or updating.

It was a detour to get a build onto a device, it is unrelated to the comment
sheet, and it is what created the OAuth callback ambiguity CodeRabbit flagged:
a second app registering `superset` means iOS picks which one receives the
callback. Nothing else in the branch depended on it, so the app group goes
back to a literal in both Swift targets.
…s card

A formSheet with a fitToContents detent keeps UIKit's home-indicator
allocation under the custom detent even while the sheet is lifted above
the keyboard, leaving a 34pt dead strip below the composer. The comment
route is a transparentModal now and the screen docks itself: a scrim, and
a ComposerCard — liquid glass, 28pt radius, the native composer's 12pt
margins and 8pt keyboard gap — lifted by the keyboard's animated height.
The all-comments ReplyBar wraps the same card so both surfaces match the
home composer.
