Problem

Desktop startup waited for the local backend to become HTTP ready before creating and loading the main window. Renderer loading added serial work, and the existing logo splash could not appear while the backend started.

Change

Load the packaged renderer alongside backend startup and reveal its existing logo and themed background on first paint. The initial route waits for authenticated backend access before replacing the HTML boot shell with the app. Readiness notifications unblock bearer authentication without periodic polling or an early HTTP exchange.

Reveal requests wait for the renderer to paint. Backend readiness does not reveal the window again or take focus back. Startup recovery remains available when a visible splash belongs to a backend that has not yet started. Recovery stays open if the backend becomes ready with no remaining main window, then closes only once an explicitly reopened main is visible. Closing the splash during startup is respected when the backend becomes ready; explicit activation can reopen it before or after readiness. Disabled local environments and WSL-only splash/fallback retain their existing startup paths.

Verification

159 focused tests passed across desktop lifecycle, recovery, WSL, authentication and affected client connection code. vp run check:changed passed, including 53 tests in 6 changed-module files. A further close-during-startup audit reproduced an unwanted window reopen; the fix passed 43 focused lifecycle tests and the production build. The production desktop build passed with automatic Electron launch disabled.

No windows were opened on the developer's display. Full visual and end-to-end startup timing verification remain unavailable. Earlier backend-only production controls did not establish a user-visible startup saving and do not measure this splash reveal change.

… (Running the fork's tests in apps/desktop) Failing check: Running the fork's tests in apps/desktop The failing test was the fork's own `hides the macOS main window on close until a quit starts` in `apps/desktop/src/window/DesktopWindow.test.ts` (part of the `restart-continuity` seam). When the Dock activated the window again, nothing was revealed: the test expected the hidden window to come back, but got nothing. The cause is upstream commit 7a760a9 (pingdotgg#28715, "load the renderer while the backend starts"). A new main window now has a pending first reveal that runs only once the page reports it is ready (Electron's `ready-to-show`, or `did-finish-load` on Linux). Until then, `activate` waits on that pending reveal instead of showing the window. The fork's test never fired `ready-to-show`, so its window was still waiting for its first reveal when it was closed and reactivated. The fork's close-to-hide code in `DesktopWindow.ts` still works with upstream's new code and didn't need changes. In the real app the window has always been shown before a user can close it, so only the test's setup was out of date. I changed only that fork-marked test. It now fires `ready-to-show` and waits for the first reveal, the same way upstream's new tests do. It then expects a second reveal of the same window on activate, with still only one window created. No checks were weakened. `DesktopWindow.test.ts` passes (27/27), `check_seams` passes, and the format check is clean. I didn't rerun the rest of the desktop suite, which passed apart from this test in the original run.

Keep completion deduplication and suppression for existing, archived, and stopped runs. This intentionally removes the continuation grace for completion alerts. A completed run can now notify before an automatic continuation starts. The sidebar's two-second placement grace and server settlement behavior remain in place. Validation: `vp run check:changed` passes after merging current main, including 40 affected tests, formatting, lint, unused-code checks, affected typechecks, and React compiler checks. Tests cover immediate completion, duplicate suppression across reconnects, preloaded audio reuse, and retrying failed loads on alerts without retrying on every gesture.
