A Codex pane inside Kiro's macOS shell-integration wrapper can look like a shell to Herdr: pane.process_info reports only zsh (kiro-cli-term) on the outer PTY. The foreground Codex runs under a login shell on an inner PTY. Ovis consequently renders terminal text in Chat instead of reading the native conversation.
Add a narrowly scoped read-only fallback for this exact wrapper. Require a single direct shell, a different nested terminal, one direct Codex occupying its foreground group, and stable topology and process start times across two bounded asynchronous process-table reads. Reject background processes, deeper/arbitrary descendants, multiple shells or foreground candidates, process replacement and failed reads. Include the verified wrapper, shell and Codex PIDs and start times in the cached binding identity, so PID reuse between requests cannot retain a previous conversation. Require a substantial unique screen-answer match or its existing process binding; weaker short-exchange heuristics are disabled because nested peers may also be unlabelled. Use the existing Codex store resolver after discovery; do not select a rollout by cwd or recency. If Herdr has no agent object, use the pane's metadata only after proving the nested Codex and discard any earlier occupant's session report.
Refs #2419; separate from #2417. This restores native Chat reading, not Herdr lifecycle detection or command/input routing. The sidebar status and composer can still identify the pane as a shell/unknown because Herdr's state remains authoritative.
Validation
HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test ./server/kiro-terminal.test.ts ./server/codex.test.ts ./server/codex-processes.test.ts ./server/conversation.test.ts: 370 passed, 5 skipped, 0 failed. Includes process-topology/lifetime rejection, between-request PID reuse, and isolated native-store/RPC resolver regressions for an unlabelled wrapper pane. Both Chat and background transcript readers reject the old binding after a start-time change; unchanged processes retain it when the answer leaves the screen.
The added same-PID/start-time-change resolver regression failed on 1c5512f by returning the old conversation; it passes with the process-identity fix. Discovery tests also cover replacement of the wrapper, inner shell or Codex between requests.
bun run typecheck: passed as part of the latest fast checks.
Initial implementation smoke check: applied only the server patch to the local installed v0.4.20 release and restarted Ovis via plugin stop/start actions. No new agent prompt or terminal keystrokes were sent.
Two previously affected panes changed from empty scrollback to native Codex conversations (8 and 2 turns). Browser Chat showed the selected pane's four user/assistant pairs without the TUI prompt/status lines. Navigating to the older pane and returning was also checked.
The previously applied spaced-file-link fix continued to return its four native conversation turns.
UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=6 bun run check fast: generated types/themes, typecheck and build passed; workflow syntax was skipped. Unit suite: 8,846 passed, 14 failed, 205 skipped. Full checks are not green. The same 14 failure names were observed before this wrapper change (check teardown, session-history WAL handling, installer/browser scripts, runner scripts, Letta binding, file inventory, remote-entry lock and composer framing). Two were also independently reproduced on unmodified main during fix(codex): match local file links containing spaces #2417 investigation; the other failures were not independently rerun on clean main.
The live checks above are smoke checks on the affected installation; automated tests use temporary stores and synthetic process metadata, not the user's sessions.
The process-identity follow-up was verified with isolated tests and fast checks; it was not applied again to the installed release. Dedicated browser regression and isolated live-Herdr integration suites were not run. No HTTP/WS contract changes.
Unlabelled nested peers cannot establish short-exchange ownership. Keep the fallback limited to substantial screen matches and their process-bound cache.

New Features
Codex Chat on macOS can now recognize and display conversations from a Codex session running inside Kiro’s terminal, even when the session has no agent label. Conversation access is available when the active nested Codex session can be reliably identified; ambiguous or unverified sessions are not treated as Codex conversations.
Adds strict macOS process discovery for Codex nested inside Kiro’s shell wrapper. When a pane has no agent label, the server can use confirmed nested Codex detection to route it to Codex transcript resolution.

Summary
Kiro terminal process discovery server/kiro-terminal.ts, server/kiro-terminal.test.ts
Adds process-table parsing and checks for a unique foreground Codex process inside the recognized Kiro wrapper. Discovery checks the topology and process birth times twice. Tests cover platform, topology, and process-read rejection cases.
Routes an unlabeled pane to Codex when Kiro contains a confirmed nested Codex, while keeping GJC checks first. Codex agent lookup falls back to pane metadata on agent_not_found; transcript resolution avoids weaker matching for nested terminals. Tests cover transcript resolution outcomes, and the changelog records the case.
devswha/ovis issue 2419: Describes Codex Chat reading Kiro terminal scrollback instead of the native conversation, which this change addresses through nested-process discovery and transcript resolution.
devswha/ovis issue 2416: Includes the same nested Kiro Codex failure mode, though it also reports a separate file-link matcher problem.

Explanation
The description follows the template's two sections, Change and Validation. The Change section explains the problem, the scoped read-only fallback, the binding identity rule, and the scope limits. It links the related issue (#2419) and a separate PR (#2417), so the maintainer-agreed issue link is present. The Validation section lists the exact unit test command with results, the typecheck result, the failing fast-check run with its 14 failures, the smoke checks, and the skipped browser and live-Herdr suites. The description discloses that the full check is not green and that a later process-identity follow-up was not re-applied to the installed release. Minor gap: the test count reported (370 passed) differs from the objectives (368 passed), and the fast-check unit count also differs (8,846 vs 8,844). These are inconsistencies in the reported numbers, not missing sections.

…ion's (#2426)
Closes#2423.
A plain Codex pane's chat could show **another session's conversation**
on main (reproduced on `f7fcec52` during the review of #2420; this fixes
the shared binding code #2420 builds on, so it can rebase onto it). The
project rule this follows: bind a pane only from what herdr and Codex
report about *this* pane and what its screen shows as answers; when
ownership cannot be proven, show the terminal instead of guessing.
## What changes (`server/codex.ts`)
1. **Short answers count only below the prompt they answered.**
`matchShortCodexAnswers` (#283) matched the newest short answers on
screen without looking at the prompts above them, so the same short
answers given to *other* prompts bound the wrong thread (whatever
herdr's process reads returned: live, absent, or absent between two live
reads). Each matched short answer now needs the nearest prompt shown
above it to be the one it answered; with that prompt past the top of the
read, nothing is matched.
2. **Prompts and queued messages are never answers.** `codexScreenParts`
cuts a screen at what was typed: `›` prompts (sent, or the input box)
and indented `↳` messages queued to be sent, with the lines they wrap
onto. They are left out of the long-answer match
(`matchCodexTranscript`) and the short one, so a long answer quoted in a
prompt, the input box or a queued message no longer binds the
conversation it came from.
3. **herdr's reported thread is a hint, not proof.** The `agent_session`
herdr has for a Codex pane comes from Codex's SessionStart hook, which
since Codex 0.157 runs in the shared app-server daemon with the
environment of the TUI that started it, and a report outlives the Codex
that made it. It was returned at once (path) or whenever the screen said
nothing (id), also by the background reader `codexOpenRollout`. It is
now a screen-match candidate like the folder's other threads, and is
taken on its own only as the pane's **brand-new conversation**
(`freshReportedThread`): an interactive thread of the pane's folder,
begun after this pane's Codex certainly started (upper bound of the
process start), with no newer thread of the folder since, not bound to
another pane, and no other Codex pane of the session (any folder)
running when it began (in a store of whole seconds, compared with the
last millisecond of that second). A stale report and one routed here by
the shared daemon each fail one of these.
## Before / after: a new Codex tab from Ovis (real browser, real CLI)
Asked by Dori before the PR, since the binding contract now shows the
terminal for a pane that only has an old report. Real Codex CLI 0.163
(`gpt-6-luna` through the local proxy), real Chrome, an isolated Ovis
server and isolated test herdr, a throwaway `CODEX_HOME` with herdr's
Codex hook. Flow: New tab → Codex, stay in Chat, send the first message
from the Chat composer (`Run the shell command ls -la in this folder,
then reply with exactly the word: pong`), then read
`/api/pane/conversation` every 300 ms.
| Case | main `f7fcec52` | this branch |
| --- | --- | --- |
| This pane's Codex starts the app-server daemon (herdr's hook reports
to it) | Chat throughout; message at +0.8 s, `pong` at +4.0 s | Chat
throughout; message at +0.8 s, `pong` at +4.9 s (screens identical) |
| A daemon another pane started is already running (the report goes to
that pane) | Terminal fallback from +0.9 s, no answer in Chat | Terminal
fallback from +0.8 s, no answer in Chat (unchanged, pre-existing) |
The comparison was run twice more and discarded: the first branch run
hit Codex's own "Update available" prompt, and a script check bug
misreported main's first answer. Evidence (logs, screenshots, script)
stays on the lane's machine.
## Changed expectations
- `server/codex-binding.contract.test.ts`: a pane whose only link to a
thread is an old herdr id now shows the terminal until its answer is on
screen (it then reads the reported thread); the short-answer pane shows
its typed prompt above its answers, as Codex does, instead of answers
alone (pasted answers are no one's).
- `server/codex.test.ts`: the short-answer helpers record one prompt and
show it above the answers; each test's own subject and expectations are
unchanged.
- `server/chat-read-timeout.test.ts`, `server/prompt.test.ts`: their
fixtures bound the pane through the report alone; they now show the
conversation's earlier answer on screen. Their subjects (HTTP timeouts,
the collapsed-queue card) are unchanged.
## Known limits (fallback to the terminal, never another conversation)
- A short-answer conversation whose prompt Codex shows abbreviated
(`[Pasted Content …]`, `[Image #1]`, a `/prompts:` command) or whose
prompt is above the 400 lines read shows the terminal until a long
answer is on screen.
- Codex's collapsed question queue gets its card only once the pane's
conversation is proven (an answer on screen, a fresh report, a binding).
- A Codex outside this herdr session in the same folder is not seen as a
peer (as on main).
- On Windows, where a process start time is not available, a new Codex
pane shows the terminal until a long answer is on screen.
- A line of an answer that itself starts with an indented `↳` is read as
a queued message and left out of the match, the rule the answers-only
reader (`shownAnswers`) already applies.
## Reviews
- omo-native-code-reviewer and Codex Terra 6.1 (fast, xhigh),
adversarial, on `18358a52`: four HIGHs from Terra (queued input as
answers, lower start bound, peer in another folder, cropped prompt) and
one from omo (whole-second store against a peer's start), all reproduced
and fixed in `6fd394e0` with regression cases that fail on `18358a52`;
omo's MEDIUMs are the known limits above. Round 2 on `6fd394e0`: Terra
confirmed every round-1 fix and raised two MEDIUMs, both fallbacks: a
fresh thread inside the start bound's uncertainty (on macOS the shared
upper bound adds a second; the fresh rule now uses macOS's exact kernel
start + 1 ms, Linux keeps its ~10 ms bound) and the `↳` line above
(documented). omo: APPROVE (all six round-1 findings closed); its one
MEDIUM is the same macOS fresh-thread case, fixed in `59fc5294`; its
LOWs are the `↳` limit, older Codex panes of any folder turning the
fresh rule off (by design: the shared daemon then reports to them), and
whole-second stores of older Codex. The macOS change is not run on a
Mac: the test Mac has no Codex CLI; it only narrows a comparison to the
kernel's own start, which `server/process-start.ts` documents as exact
to the millisecond.
## Validation
- Fail-first: the new cases in `server/codex-processes.test.ts` /
`server/codex.test.ts` fail on main `f7fcec52` (6 of the first 7) and
the round-2 ones on `18358a52`.
- `bun run check fast` passed on `59fc5294` (also on `18358a52` and
`6fd394e0`).
- Contract tests `server/codex-binding.contract.test.ts`,
`server/codex.contract.test.ts`, `server/gjc.contract.test.ts`,
`server/prompt.contract.test.ts` on the isolated test herdr: 39/39 on
`6fd394e0` (and on `18358a52`); `59fc5294` changes only the macOS branch
of the fresh rule, so they were not re-run.
- Unit: `server/codex.test.ts` + `server/codex-processes.test.ts`
196/196; every other unit file that touches a reported Codex session or
the background reader (17 files, 970 tests) on `18358a52`.
- Real browser QA as above (Linux, `18358a52` vs `f7fcec52`). Not run:
macOS and Windows, the browser and integration lanes (CI runs them).
- `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` is not raised: per docs/development.md that is
the release PR's step.
Resolves the conflicts with devswha#2426 (Codex pane ownership): the reported thread is no longer returned up front in codexTranscriptPath or codexOpenRollout, and the nested-terminal guard sits before main's short-answer reading. The test fixture keeps pane.get from this branch and the reported session and process-read queue from main.
The nested-terminal guard came from a fresh process-table probe in codexAgentInfo when agent.get
succeeded, so a probe that failed between two that proved Codex (live, null, live) made the pane a
plain Codex pane again, with the weaker short-answer and first-exchange readings. The guard now
rests on herdr's own report that the pane's one foreground process is Kiro's wrapper (kiroWrapper),
so a failed or racing probe leaves it nested and, without a proven Codex, the terminal stands in.
A nested pane also takes no reported thread through freshReportedThread, whose peer check cannot
see unlabelled nested panes: the report stays a screen-match candidate.
- a pane herdr does not label Codex, whose Codex was inferred, stays nested when herdr's process
facts are missing for agent.get's read;
- a Codex home chosen while no Codex process of the pane was seen (a probe failed or raced) is the
default store only for want of one: the chat asks again once it finds a conversation there, and
takes none if a Codex proven since writes elsewhere (paneCodexHomePlaced);
- a tool's output (an indented "└" and the lines below it) is never an answer, in either matcher;
- Kiro's wrapper is a nested terminal on macOS only, where its Codex can be proven; agent_not_found
is decided by herdr's wrapper fact too, so a failed probe falls back instead of throwing.
Round-2 reviews of 208a044:
- the home recheck compared two fallbacks: when both home probes failed, the default store passed.
codexTranscriptPath now takes `homeUnplaced` and, with a Codex process proven by its lookup,
requires that process's own store to be `home`;
- missing process facts mark a pane herdr does not label Codex as nested on macOS only (kiroNested),
so main's unlabelled session-hint panes elsewhere keep their readings;
- only a "└" right below a tool call's bullet starts its output, so a tree drawn inside an answer
stays part of it.
…tput
Final review of 131fc49:
- a Codex home chosen while no Codex process was seen is taken only when the Codex the lookup proves
says it writes there; an environment that cannot be read is no such proof;
- a tool's output is told by its indented "└" alone, as shownAnswers reads it: a call's line may
wrap above it. A tree an answer draws with "└" is lost with it, and the terminal stands in.
The store test waits for its child's READY before it is read through /proc.
Thank you, @cheol-95, for this PR and for the careful process checks behind it: proving the wrapper, its one shell and its one foreground Codex across two reads, and keying the binding on process births. Main changed underneath it (#2426 tightened how a Codex pane is tied to its conversation), so the maintainers merged main into your branch and fixed what the reviews found, as maintainer edits on your branch (no force push). Your detection in server/kiro-terminal.ts is unchanged; what changed is around it.
What changed on your branch
952e57fa Merge origin/main. Conflicts with #2426 in server/codex.ts (codexOpenRollout, codexTranscriptPath) and the server/codex-processes.test.ts fixture. herdr's reported thread is no longer returned up front (main makes it a screen-match candidate), and your nested-terminal guard sits before main's short-answer reading. The fixture keeps your pane.get and main's reported session and process-read queue.
3a827c93 A Kiro pane stays nested when one process probe fails. With agent.get succeeding, codexAgentInfo set nestedTerminal from a fresh probe, so a probe failing between two that proved Codex (live, null, live) made the pane a plain Codex pane with the weaker readings again. The guard now rests on herdr's own fact that the pane's one foreground process is Kiro's wrapper (kiroWrapper, your wrapperPid check). A nested pane also takes no reported thread through freshReportedThread (from #2426), whose peer check cannot see unlabelled nested panes.
208a0440, 131fc498, 3552599c What the reviews of those commits found.
On macOS, a pane herdr does not label codex (its Codex was inferred) stays nested when herdr's process facts are missing (kiroNested). Kiro's wrapper counts as nested on macOS only, where its Codex can be proven, so a Kiro pane on Linux keeps main's behaviour. agent_not_found is decided by the same wrapper fact, so a failed probe falls back to the terminal instead of throwing.
A Codex home chosen while no Codex process of the pane was seen (a probe failed or raced) is only the default store: the conversation found there is taken only when the Codex the lookup then proves says (by its environment) that it writes there (paneCodexHomePlaced, codexTranscriptPath(..., homeUnplaced)).
A tool's output (an indented └ and the lines below it) never counts as an answer, for any Codex pane, as main's answers-only reader (shownAnswers) already reads it.
Your tests. The agent_not_found nested tests now give the fake herdr the wrapper's shell_pid and pin macOS (asOnMac), since the guard reads herdr's wrapper fact. "chooses no native chat when the final Kiro process probe cannot prove Codex" scripts one proving probe then null: that branch no longer probes, so the final process lookup is the second probe; what it checks is unchanged. New cases cover live/null/live, a fresh-looking reported thread on a nested pane, quoted prompts and queued messages, missing process facts, the fallback-store checks, and tool output (also below a wrapped call line); each fails on the commit before its fix.
Known limits (all fall back to the terminal, never another session's conversation)
An answer that draws a tree with └ reads as tool output, so a pane whose screen shows only such an answer gets no match until another answer shows.
On macOS, an unlabelled pane that is not Kiro's and for which herdr returns no process facts is treated as nested.
Pre-existing, outside this PR: the queued-question card (server/prompt.ts) picks its store without the fallback-store check.
Not verified: a real Kiro wrapper on macOS (the detection is exercised through its seams, as before).
Reviews
omo-native-code-reviewer and Codex Terra 6.1 (fast, xhigh), adversarial: on 3a827c93 (Terra 3 HIGH, omo APPROVE with 1 MEDIUM, 3 LOW), on 208a0440 (Terra 1 HIGH, 2 MEDIUM; omo APPROVE, its MEDIUMs the same two), and Terra once more on 131fc498 (2 HIGH, 2 MEDIUM). Every reproduced wrong-conversation finding is fixed above; the remaining ones are the fallback limits listed. Per the project's rule for heuristic matchers, 3552599c (two fail-closed changes) got no further Codex round; the merge pass reviews it.
Validation
On 3552599c (this push): bun run check fast green (unit 9093 pass, 0 fail, 36 skipped, 582 files); contract tests server/codex-binding.contract.test.ts, server/codex.contract.test.ts, server/gjc.contract.test.ts, server/prompt.contract.test.ts 39/39 on the isolated test herdr; server/codex-processes.test.ts, server/codex.test.ts, server/kiro-terminal.test.ts, server/conversation.test.ts, server/prompt.test.ts, server/chat-read-timeout.test.ts 804/804. …2430)
Closes#2429.
A plain Codex pane's chat could still show **another session's
conversation** on main from screen evidence that proves nothing about
the pane. The merge pass reproduced three such cases while reviewing
#2420 at `3552599c` (plain-pane rows of its matrix); this PR fixes them
on main for 0.4.21, and #2420 will rebase on it. Same rule as #2426:
bind a pane only from evidence of its own Codex conversation; when that
is missing, show the terminal.
## What changes (`server/codex.ts`)
1. **No Codex process, no screen reading.** `codexTranscriptPath`
returns nothing when the final process lookup proves no Codex in the
pane: a Codex that exited, or an earlier occupant, leaves text on screen
that no longer belongs to a running conversation. Codex's release binary
(`codex-x86_64-…`, `codex-aarch64-…`) and Windows file names in any
letter case now count as Codex, since the chat needs one.
2. **Long answers match symbol for symbol where that changes their
meaning.** The long-answer match compared letters and digits only, so `a
< b` matched `a > b`, `a != b` matched `a = b` and `feature-one` matched
`feature_one`. Each anchor now also has to show with its punctuation
(`markedDisplay`), minus what markdown marks and Codex renders its own
way: code, emphasis and link syntax, table rules, autolink brackets,
runs that draw rules or emphasis, emphasis underscores, and a `-`, `+`,
`*`, `>` or `#` standing alone between spaces (list, quote and heading
markers, spaced dashes; Codex may wrap a line before one, so a line's
start is never trusted).
3. **Tool calls and their output are not answers.** `codexScreenParts`
marks a tool's output (an indented `└` and the lines below it) and a
tool call Codex draws: a `•` line starting with what it did (`Ran`, `You
ran`, `Called`, `Explored`, `Searched`, `Waited`) with `│`/`└` lines
below it, or with what it is doing (`Running`, `Calling`, …) just above
Codex's working status. Both matchers skip them. An answer that merely
starts with one of those words stays an answer.
## Fixtures (fail on main `510b5982`, pass here)
| Case | main | this PR |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Final process lookup finds no Codex, the screen shows this cwd
thread's long answer | binds it | terminal |
| Long answer `a < b` / `a > b`, `a != b` / `a = b`, `feature-one` /
`feature_one` | binds the cwd thread | terminal |
| `• Ran printf "<answer>"` with `└` output; `• Running printf
"<answer>"` above the working status; a heredoc `• Ran cat <<'EOF'` with
`│` lines; `• You ran printf "<answer>"` with `└ (no output)` | binds
the quoted conversation | terminal |
Normal chats kept, with tests: own long answers (also rendered from
markdown with emphasis, code, a link and a list), answers wrapped before
a spaced dash, a year or a plus, answers starting "Running …" or "Ran
…", an autolink, and Codex run as its release binary or `Codex.exe`.
## Changed tests
- Fixtures that bound a pane with **no Codex process** now run one,
since that is what they stand for: the Windows-cwd test in
`server/codex-processes.test.ts`, `server/chat-read-timeout.test.ts`,
the collapsed-queue test in `server/prompt.test.ts`, and
`server/codex.contract.test.ts`, whose pane printed the answers from a
shell with `printf` and now runs a stand-in `codex` (waiting for it by a
deadline through `paneProcessInfo`).
## Known limits (all fall back to the terminal, never another
conversation)
- A tree drawn with a single `└` inside an answer reads as tool output,
so a pane whose screen shows only such an answer gets no match until
another answer shows.
- A `• Edited …` diff is not recognized as a tool call (as on main).
- Panes whose Codex is not recognized as a Codex process (`cmd.exe /c
codex.cmd`, herdr reporting no argv off Linux) get no chat.
- A `-`, `+`, `*`, `>` or `#` standing alone between spaces is dropped
(a list, quote or heading marker, or a spaced dash Codex may wrap
before), so `base + 1` still matches `base - 1` and a spaced `->`
matches nothing, as on main. `*`, `|`, `~` and `&` are dropped with
markdown too, and an HTML entity (`<`) does not match the character
it stands for.
- Two `• Running` calls in a row: only the one just above the working
status counts as a call. Ordered lists written `1)` match only if Codex
shows them that way. An answer starting with "Ran …" that holds a
`│`/`└` drawing in a code block is taken for a call.
## Reviews
omo-native-code-reviewer and Codex Terra 6.1 (fast, xhigh), adversarial:
- `67cb8fdf`: Terra 2 HIGH (`!=`, heredoc tool call) + 2 MEDIUM
(emphasis, answer above a tree); omo confirmed the three report cases
reject but found 2 HIGH fallbacks on normal answers (line markers on
wrapped lines, answers starting with a tool verb) + MEDIUMs. All fixed
in `65e2704a`/`8597e02c` with tests, or listed above.
- `72f08caf`: Terra APPROVE (its one MEDIUM, the tool verb, fixed in
`8597e02c`; per the heuristic-matcher rule this was the last Codex
round). - `8597e02c`: omo APPROVE (both blockers closed); its two
MEDIUMs fixed in `28f47f77` (`You ran` commands; changelog no longer
claims every symbol), its LOWs listed above.
## Validation
- `bun run check fast` green on `28f47f77` (unit 9088 pass, 0 fail, 36
skip in 582 files, 8 at a time, 82.1s).
- Contract tests on the isolated test herdr, `28f47f77`:
`server/codex-binding.contract.test.ts`,
`server/codex.contract.test.ts`, `server/gjc.contract.test.ts`,
`server/prompt.contract.test.ts` 39/39.
- Fail-first: the three report fixtures fail on main `510b5982`; each
later case fails on the commit before its fix (`67cb8fdf`, `72f08caf`,
`8597e02c`).
- Not run: browser and integration lanes, native Windows and macOS (CI
runs them); no live Codex session (the chat behaviour is exercised
through the real resolver and native-store fixtures).
- `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` is not raised (the release PR's step).
Brings devswha#2430 (Codex chat evidence) in. Conflicts in server/codex.ts: main's stricter matcher wins
(whole-answer matching exact but for whitespace, every tool-verb line a call) over this branch's
earlier tool-output rule, and main's "no Codex process, no screen reading" guard covers this branch's
nested-only one; this branch's check that a fallback Codex home is the proven Codex's own stays after
it. The no-Codex fixture scripts both of herdr's process reads, agent.get's (this branch reads it for
the Kiro wrapper fact) and the process lookup's.
Brought current with main for 0.4.22 (it stays parked until then): merge commit c660ee99, a maintainer edit on your branch, no force push. Thanks again, @cheol-95.
Main now carries #2430, which reworked the same Codex matching code: an answer counts only matched whole and exactly, apart from whitespace and wrapping, and every tool-verb line is a tool call. Its rule that a pane with no Codex process shows the terminal covers this branch's nested-only guard. In the server/codex.ts conflicts main's version wins, and this branch's check that a fallback Codex home belongs to the proven Codex stays. One #2430 fixture now scripts both herdr process reads, since this branch reads one more for the Kiro wrapper fact.
Validation on c660ee99: bun run check fast green (unit 9111 pass, 0 fail, 36 skip in 584 files, 8 at a time, 118.2s); the wrong-chat fixtures of both PRs (server/codex-processes.test.ts, server/codex.test.ts, server/kiro-terminal.test.ts) pass; contract tests (codex-binding, codex, gjc, prompt) 39/39.
## Release 0.4.21
The release PR, prepared by step 1 of
[docs/development.md#releasing](https://github.com/devswha/ovis/blob/main/docs/development.md#releasing),
now re-folded on main `1ef6ea329108a0985b823e8235b03daddcd0a5f4` after
the owner held 0.4.21 for more work. The merge pass reported the 0.4.21
queue empty.
**Do not merge yet:** the owner judges the final build before release.
No tag and no Release run from this PR's author.
- **Version:** `version` is 0.4.21 in `package.json` and
`herdr-plugin.toml`.
- **Changelog:** `bun scripts/changelog-fold.ts 0.4.21 2026-10-30`
folded 63 fragments into the 2026-10-30 section of `CHANGELOG.md` (71
entries), linked their PRs and deleted the fragments; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`.
- `by @login` on every outside contributor's PR link: #2361@eddieparc,
#2333@IdrisGit, #2355@imurfutur3, #2341@sulthonzh, #2359@YuuuXie,
#2377@IdrisGit, #2269@CharleoYang, #2405@jpcarranza94, #2414@homebodify, #2417@cheol-95, #2418@eddieparc, #2435@cheol-95.
- Two outside PRs had no fragment and got an entry by hand: #2341
(OpenCode background commands, Added) and #2359 (installer test timing,
Maintenance).
- Issue reporters are credited in their entries: @blaker3115-Agri
(#1488), @Hyd3-14 (#2026), @osamahbeig (#2343), @Shunamxiao (#2329),
@matiemer (#2362), @kilhyeonjun (#2344), @eddieparc (#2360), @Ploppy3
(#2236), @sulthonzh (#2340), @WOULDU-pres (#2056), @odfalik (#2038),
@aNNdii (#511), @Noobear (#2281, fixed by #2424); #2435 fixes
@cheol-95's own #2434.
- Two fragments ran past the changelog's width (#2418, #2269); their
entries are re-wrapped, words unchanged. #2382's entry reads "OpenCode's
installer puts its folder first" (reviewed earlier on this PR).
- Maintainer PRs without a fragment and without a user-facing change
have no entry: #2353 (check tool), #2371 (guide docs), #2396 and #2397
(tests), #2403 and #2433 (server and client transport seams, no
behaviour change), #2437 (test-only fix for #2435's check). #2438's own
entry (the sidebar selection marked by its fill again) is dropped: the
stroke #2352 added never shipped, so users see no change; #2352's entry
keeps only the Windows high-contrast Highlight bar.
- **Release summaries:** en, ko, ja and zh each have 5 new, 5 improved
and 5 fixed lines. Since the first review: New lists the in-browser
Claude Code / Codex sign-in (#2428) in place of the tab/workspace
shortcut line; Improved lists Settings → Agents (#2427) in place of the
sidebar fold line; Fixed lists the Codex wrong-session fix (#2426,
#2430) in place of the phone screenshot paste line. The Artifacts and
Claude status-line lines keep their reviewed wording (turned on in
Settings). Not in 0.4.21: #2420 (Codex chat behind Kiro), #2065 (Portal
sign-in) and #2436 (relay foundations) stay open for a later release.
- **Remote bundle:** `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` rises from 39 to 40 because
the bundle inputs (`server/`, `shared/`, `patches/`) changed since
remote-v39. After merge: push `remote-v40` on the merged commit and wait
for the Remote PC bundles workflow before running Release.
- **iOS:** `CURRENT_PROJECT_VERSION` stays 3 (#2370 changed
`Info.plist`; build 3 is not known to be uploaded yet).
## Validation
- `bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.20`: "Release 0.4.21:
remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release metadata are in order."
- `dori heavy … bun run check fast` on this branch: workflow syntax,
generated types and themes, typecheck, build, unit tests all ok. Unit:
9166 pass, 0 fail, 36 skip in 591 files.
- Every PR in `v0.4.20..main` was pre-run for the owner's hands-on guide
on isolated copies (own herdr session, fresh state, never the owner's
live session). Items that need a real device (iPhone tap dictation
#2370, dictation keyboards #2386, the installed desktop app's title-bar
overlay #2381) are left for the owner's final check.
This is a release-metadata PR: it changes no code path. Per the release
steps, merge it after CI and the owner's go, then push `remote-v40`,
wait for its bundles, and run Release with `0.4.21`.
Codex 0.163 draws "Worked for 4s • 7:05 PM" below each finished answer,
indented like the answer's own wrapped lines. Since devswha#2430 an answer
counts only when its whole block matches, and that line made every
finished answer's block one line too long, so Chat fell back to the
terminal (reproduced on macOS with a plain Codex pane).
The footer is read away only in Codex's exact shape with its clock, on
a line of its own with a blank line above it and nothing below it but
blank lines up to the next prompt. The answer above it then counts only
for a conversation whose rollout records a turn that finished on that
same answer at the footer's clock (task_complete). Anything else, an
answer still being written or one ending in a footer-shaped line of its
own included, keeps the line and falls back as before.
Merge-pass review of ba90f29, each reproduced: the footer's clock alone
let the same answer from another day, another turn's footer, or an
answer's own footer-shaped last line pick another conversation; an
impossible clock ("31:05 PM") was read as 7:05 PM; and comparing clocks
across time zones could reject a genuine turn.
A footer now vouches only for the answer block directly above it (one
blank line between, only blank lines down to the next prompt), and only
on the screen of the Codex shown last. That answer counts for a
conversation whose rollout records a turn, by its id, that was asked the
prompt shown above it and finished on exactly that answer. No clock is
compared. An answer that ends in a footer-shaped line falls back, as
nothing tells that line from Codex's. Codex 0.166's dated footers
("Oct 29 at 7:05 PM") are read; any impossible clock is not a footer.
Review of 0631035 (Codex Terra): displayedFirstExchange shared the new
footer pattern, so it began to drop a dated line ("Worked for 1s • Oct 29
at 7:05 PM") from an answer's end, and a first exchange whose answer
really ends in such a line could match another conversation's. It reads
Codex's footer with main's exact pattern again.
Review of 0631035 (omo): a turn with no recorded message counted as
asked an empty prompt, so a bare prompt line above an answer tied it to
that turn. A turn now counts only when its prompt was recorded and is
the one shown. Tests also pin that each answer pairs with its own turn's
prompt: a turn of the candidate asked this prompt but finished on
another answer, or a turn asked the first prompt that finished on the
second answer, is neither.
Merge-pass review of 80c19a1, each reproduced:
- T1: an answer that ended in its own footer-shaped line, with this
pane's rollout in another folder, could pick a conversation asked the
same prompt that finished on the text above that line. A footer is now
no footer when any candidate, or one of the store's 32 most recent
conversations of other folders, finished its answer on that line.
- T2: prompts and answers were compared with whitespace deleted, so
"stone bridge" was "stonebridge". The footer path now collapses runs of
whitespace instead, and drops only the emphasis and code marks Codex
renders away (* and backticks: an answer with **bold** is still found,
and base_value is not basevalue).
- T3: a footer counted above a message sent since, with Codex working.
Only Codex's composer, waiting, may follow it, with nothing below but
Codex's own indented status lines (not a shell prompt or Codex's exit
line, a screen a new Codex has not drawn over yet; omo review).
Merge-pass review of f5bcc0b: the veto window over other folders could
miss the pane's own older rollout (U1), read only finished turns (U2),
and dropping every star and backtick made base*value equal basevalue
(U3); a composer with an indented working row passed as idle (U4).
The other-folder scan and its veto are gone. Codex's footer is read away
only below the composer idle and empty, with nothing under it but
Codex's own status rows (the pattern codex-steering already reads), and
the answer above it counts for one conversation only: the one candidate
of this folder whose last finished turn was asked the prompt shown and
ended on exactly that answer, and only while no other candidate's last
finished turn may be the one shown, read loosely (its prompt unread or
ending in the one shown, its answer's letters and digits those shown), compared with whitespace collapsed and
every other character as written (no Unicode folding). None counts
while a candidate's answer, or a turn it records finished, ends in a
footer-shaped line. Anything else falls back as on main.
Merge-pass review of 54a11c0 (K1, reproduced through the real lookup):
the candidates also hold the conversation herdr reports for the pane and
one a title names, which may be of another folder, and either could own
the footer. Only the store's conversations of this folder may own it
now; the others still count against an owner, never for one.
Thank you again, @cheol-95. The maintainers want this soon, so we ran it against a real Kiro on macOS and on Linux. That run found why a Kiro pane never showed a chat, and the cause wasn't in your code: Codex 0.163 draws a "Worked for 4s • 7:05 PM" footer under each finished answer, and since #2430 that footer kept main from recognising any finished answer. A Kiro pane relies on that recognition alone, so it always fell back to the terminal. The fix shipped separately as #2443 and is now part of your branch. Your detection in server/kiro-terminal.ts is unchanged. On a real Kiro on macOS it proved the nested Codex exactly as you designed it.
Real Kiro QA (isolated herdr sessions, Codex on the cheapest model)
macOS (test MacBook Air, macOS 27.0.1 arm64; Kiro CLI 2.36.0 from its signed dmg, not signed in; herdr 0.9.3; Codex 0.163.0)
Kiro's own init zsh pre starts its wrapper inside herdr by itself; no Kiro sign-in is needed. herdr reports the pane's one foreground process as zsh (kiro-cli-term) and leaves the pane unlabelled. The inner /bin/zsh runs on its own tty.

Each pane was read twice. No pane ever showed another pane's conversation.
The final round was rechecked on 67257d76 with the same panes, each read twice. Since then only server/conversation.ts changed: 10 lines from #2452, about Claude's context window. server/codex.ts, server/codex-processes.ts and server/kiro-terminal.ts are identical in this push (1253b700). The recheck also carried #2446, the separate fix for a macOS store bug on main (#2444). Each pane again showed its own conversation, and none showed another pane's:
the plain pane: the cartwright prompt;
the first Kiro pane: the ropemaker prompt;
the second Kiro pane: the saddler and glazier prompts.
That held in both cases:
A Codex holding the store: its -wal and -shm beside it.
No Codex holding it: the store alone, the case where main falls back to the terminal for every Codex pane on macOS. Nothing was created beside the store.
Linux (kiro-cli 2.35.2, herdr 0.9.5, Codex 0.163.0)
Inside herdr on Linux, Kiro's init does not start its wrapper (should-figterm-launch: No). When it is started the way the init would, herdr leaves the pane unlabelled. Detection is macOS-only by design, so both Kiro panes show the terminal, on main and here. The plain Codex pane shows its own chat on both.
Known limits
Each of these falls back to the terminal; none shows another conversation:
npm-installed Codex inside Kiro: the foreground group is node plus the native codex it starts, which the proof does not accept. Homebrew and the standalone binary work.
cd inside a Kiro pane: herdr keeps reporting the Kiro wrapper's folder, not the inner shell's (seen on macOS). A Codex started after a cd inside a Kiro pane is therefore looked for in the wrong folder.
Other paths, not observed: these were traced by a reviewer but need the same answer finished by two conversations. One is a stale binding after /resume inside one Codex process. The other is a Codex process replaced between choosing its store and matching.
Near-duplicate answers (final Terra round): two cases need this pane's own conversation missing from the candidates and another conversation that finished on the same substantial answer. In one, the answers differ only in a Markdown link's destination (the matcher's existing link handling, as on main). In the other, the prompts differ only in whitespace (user id vs userid).
CODEX_HOME through a symlink: a CODEX_HOME reached through a symlink (/tmp on macOS) never matches its rollouts. This happens on main too.
Reviews
omo-native-code-reviewer, four rounds: the last three rounds were APPROVE (WATCH), with no HIGH. Its MEDIUM about a wrong-chat path was fixed in fix(codex): find a finished answer above Codex's completed-turn footer #2443's matcher. Its LOW (herdr reports the Kiro wrapper's folder after a cd) is listed under Known limits.
Merging 1253b70, thank you @cheol-95 for this PR and the careful process checks behind it! A Codex running behind Kiro's terminal wrapper on macOS now gets its native chat: the pane is bound to the Codex its own wrapper -> one shell -> one foreground Codex chain runs, proven by two identical process-table reads with every process birth checked before and after, and anything partial or failed falls back to the terminal. Maintainer edits on this branch (lane kiro-2420): earlier review fixes (a failed probe keeps the pane nested; a fallback Codex home is checked against the Codex proven later; an unreadable proven store fails closed) and merges of main bringing in #2443's footer rule and #2446's store reads. Real-Kiro QA on a Mac: each pane shows its own chat, including a store without -wal/-shm; plain Codex unchanged. Final review by the merge pass with its own wrong-session fixtures incl. the Kiro wrapper: the earlier HIGH no longer reproduces; plain Codex panes unchanged (#2426/#2430 suites pass); 338 Codex tests pass. LOW noted: the binding relies on macOS /bin/ps output and process start times, and falls back to the terminal if their format changes.
## Release 0.4.22
The release PR, prepared by step 1 of
[docs/development.md#releasing](https://github.com/devswha/ovis/blob/main/docs/development.md#releasing)
on main `41492320` (#2453 the last merge), refreshed to main `99a6671f`
(#2582 the last merge).
**Do not merge yet:** the owner tests main and judges the final build
before release. No tag and no Release run from this PR's author.
- **Version:** `version` is 0.4.22 in `package.json` and
`herdr-plugin.toml`.
- **Changelog:** `bun scripts/changelog-fold.ts 0.4.22` (2026-10-31,
local) folded 20 fragments into the 2026-10-31 section of `CHANGELOG.md`
(23 entries with the hand entry), linked their PRs and deleted the
fragments; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
- `by @login` on every outside contributor's PR link: #2453@jokkopucko,
#2452@jokkopucko, #2442@nahwan-kim, #2463@zerodice0, #2468@Yoonwoo-Ha, #2065@rabbitson87 (both entries), #2466@jpcarranza94,
#2467@jpcarranza94, #2457@YuuuXie, #2420@cheol-95 (both entries),
#2459@Haeminway1, #2450@briantcl1992, #2448@briantcl1992.
- One outside PR had no fragment and got an entry by hand: #2448
(installer test no longer finds the host's Node, Maintenance).
- Issue reporters: #2442's entry credits @Ploppy3, who asked for
herdr-core support in #2439. The other fixed issues were filed by the
PR's own author (#2460@zerodice0, #2464@jpcarranza94, #2419@cheol-95,
#2089@rabbitson87) or the maintainer (#2444), so the PR credit covers
them.
- Two fragments ran past the changelog's width (#2443, #2446); their
entries are re-wrapped, words unchanged.
- Folded after the PR opened (merge of main `653613cb`, by hand per the
release steps): #2474 (Pi Chat message with leading/trailing spaces, a
tab or a trailing `@mention` no longer stuck "waiting for transcript",
Fixed), credited `reported by @BeerBelly69` (he reported issue #2454;
the PR is the maintainer's, so the earlier `by @BeerBelly69` was
corrected in `90536524`). Its fragment is deleted; `changelog.d` holds
only `README.md`. The release summaries are unchanged: their fixed list
is already at five lines.
- Folded in a second refresh (merge of main `98c1f5e0`, by hand): #2475
(a reconnecting or reloading browser gets back its follow-up's lost
"sent" receipt, Fixed), credited `reported by @christso`, who filed
#2421 and proposed the approach. Its fragment is deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`. The release summaries are unchanged (fixed list
already at five lines).
- Folded in a third refresh (merge of main `af20e0a4`, by hand): #2490
(Chat keeps its messages mounted when the pane's skill names load, so a
decoded image no longer drops back to its loading slot, Fixed), credited
`by @nocstah` (outside PR, no linked issue); #2483 (a Copilot turn stays
whole when its pictures pass the page window, Fixed); #2479 (Chat shows
the pictures in a Copilot CLI session, Added); #2482 (Chat shows the
picture attached to a Hermes prompt, Added). #2483, #2479 and #2482 are
maintainer PRs; #2483's issue #2478 is the maintainer's, so no reporter
credit. #2480 (site only) had no fragment. Their fragments are deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The release summaries are
unchanged: the fixed list is already at five lines, and the two new
picture features stay in the changelog only (the new list has room for
them if the owner wants them there).
- Folded in a fourth refresh (merge of main `4ca7d24d`, by hand): #2481
(Grok pictures in Chat), #2477 (svg figures, `reported by @affeek`, who
filed #2441 and co-authored the PR), #2498 (dollar math, `reported by
@kjohnsen`, #2407), #2484 (Expand thinking / Collapse work defaults,
`reported by @altgans and @Ploppy3`, #2346 and #2228) under Added; #2494
(`by @todor-a`), #2491 (`by @nocstah`), #2487, #2486, #2472 (`reported
by @matiemer`, #2462) and #2476 (relay session uses the server's port)
under Fixed. 10 fragments deleted; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
Every entry's credit was re-checked with GraphQL (PR author, closing
issues' authors, commit authors): #2487's #2374, #2486's #2485 and
#2483's #2478 are the maintainer's, so no reporter credit.
- Folded in a fifth refresh (merge of main `f5370d54`, by hand): #2503
(Claude question card steps and Back, `reported and co-authored by
@jpcarranza94`, who filed #2465 and co-authored the fix), #2502 (tab
name from its first message, `reported by @vibewriter-hand`, #2019) and
#2505 (a note on a diff line goes into the next message; #1603 is the
maintainer's, so no credit) under Added; #2506 (OmO, Codex and Hermes
question cards move between questions without answering; it closes no
issue, so no credit) under Fixed. 4 fragments deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`. #2499's hand-written relay entry is kept. All
four PRs are the maintainer's; credits re-checked with GraphQL (PR
author, closing issues' authors, commit authors).
- Sixth refresh (merge of main `feb3ae09`, head `e3b0dc37`): main had no
fragment left to fold. #2504 (the owner's PR, no fragment) gets a hand
entry under Added next to #2499's: the PC side of the relay, which
answers the relay's server proof, `/api/relay` start/stop routes
restricted to the owner and to direct connections, and a relay QR from
`plugin pair`; off by default with no Settings switch yet. No credit
(maintainer PR). It stays out of the release summaries (off by default,
no UI).
- Seventh refresh (merge of main `a683e3ff`, head `7855c73c`): folded
#2509's two fragments by hand, two entries under Added (the phone side
of the relay: the hosted shell that pairs from the PC's relay QR and
opens the app end-to-end encrypted; files and chat images through the
relay) and one under Fixed (the iOS and Android apps no longer show the
hosted shell's home-screen hint). Each says the relay is off by default.
#2499's entry now says Ovis uses the relay only once a PC's relay link
is started. No credit (maintainer PR). The fragments are deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The relay stays out of the release
summaries.
- Eighth refresh (merge of main `0b215abf`, head `f76f3ae4`): folded
#2514's three fragments by hand under Fixed (relay connection limits and
the 30 s wait for an absent PC, proof of the PC's relay key, the hosted
shell's copy-on-select and relay-control requests) and added a hand
entry for #2514 under Added: remote access through the Ovis relay can be
turned on in **Settings → Phone & devices** (off by default), with the
iOS and Android apps opening a relay-paired PC from its link;
app.ovis.sh is deployed separately. #2499, #2504 and #2509's entries no
longer say there is no Settings switch: they now say the relay is turned
on in Settings. No credit (maintainer PR). Also folded #2511 (Claude
task-list scan on file workers, Fixed, `by @duytbp`) and #2518 (feedback
typed on Claude Code's plan card keeps Claude planning, Fixed, `by
@jpcarranza94`, who also reported #2517, so no separate reporter
credit). #2515 is docs only, no fold. 5 fragments deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`.
- Ninth refresh (merge of main `fbb97b62`, head `44048d5f`, fold in the
merge commit): folded 23 fragments by hand: 7 entries under Added
(#2514's rewritten relay-identity entry, which replaces its old Fixed
entry about the PC's relay key; #2519 Letta model pill `by @homebodify`;
#2522 relay bulk window and the relay overview, self-hosting and
hosted-shell attestation; #2524 DeepSeek Harness in the catalog), 3
under Changed (#2533 Connect a phone dialog and the `tailscale serve`
box; #2539 chat pictures shown whole) and 26 under Fixed: #2508; #2512
`by @lifeofpi-ux`; #2516; #2521, #2526, #2531, #2538, #2541, #2543,
#2545, #2547, #2549 and #2551 `by @jpcarranza94`; #2527 `reported by
@duytbp` (#2510); #2532; #2535 `reported by @devtm1123` (#2513). #2532's
#2523 is the maintainer's; @jpcarranza94's issues (#2525, #2537, #2540,
#2542, #2544, #2546, #2548, #2550) are covered by his PR credit. #2529
(perf) is not merged and stays out of 0.4.22. 23 fragments deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
- Tenth refresh (merge of main `afdfb1e0`, head `1cfcfab7`, fold in the
merge commit), on the owner's OK for both: folded #2567 (Connect a phone
shows three choice cards and opens on the relay whenever it is offered,
with the relay's switch on its card on a tailnet; maintainer PR, no
credit) under Changed and #2555 (the New workspace folder picker's
compact row; `by @iwangjie`, no linked issue) under Fixed. 2 fragments
deleted; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The IMPROVED summary line
now says the relay needs no Tailscale, in en, ko, ja and zh.
- Eleventh refresh (merge of main `2b620462`, head `13fa0181`, fold in
the merge commit), on the owner's go for each: folded 13 entries from 12
fragments by hand. Changed: #2562 (a chat starts loading when the press
begins, `by @jpcarranza94`), #2574 (Quote a selection into the message
box), #2578 (the relay's switch, reset and failures only in Connect a
phone). Fixed: #2564 and #2560 (two entries) `by @jpcarranza94`; #2554
`by @iwangjie`; #2577; #2576 (the session-bound conversation cache,
fixing the two HIGHs the post-merge Codex Terra review reproduced in
#2562 and #2545); #2572 `reported by @rkqksk` (#2557); #2570 `reported
by @nathanvale` (#2566); #2571 `reported by @altgans` (#2568); #2575
`reported by @matiemer` (#2558). @jpcarranza94's own issues (#2559,
#2561, #2563) are covered by his PR credit. 12 fragments deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. IMPROVED summary: "Select words in
a Chat reply to quote them into your message." replaces the spacing
line, in en, ko, ja and zh.
- Twelfth refresh (merge of main `64ae5e72`, head `3ae2133e`), on Dori's
go: folded #2580 under Fixed (the Cloudflare relay closes both ends of a
pair after a frame send fails, so they reconnect at once; maintainer PR,
no credit) and deleted its fragment. #2579 (guide only) has no fragment.
Summaries unchanged.
- Thirteenth refresh (merge of main `99a6671f`, head `aebaabbf`), on
Dori's go: folded #2582 under Fixed (`by @iwangjie`: the folder picker's
Show hidden waits for a loading folder; the path bar wraps at very
narrow widths) and deleted its fragment. Summaries unchanged.
- Maintainer PRs without a fragment and without a user-facing change
have no entry: #2436 (relay crypto/mux foundations, not wired yet),
#2445 (CI contract test against a pinned hc).
- **Release summaries:** en, ko, ja and zh each have 8 new, 8 improved
and 8 fixed lines (8 is the most a list the app reads may hold, 90
characters a line). New: remote access through the Ovis relay, turned on
in Settings (off by default), with app.ovis.sh shipping separately
(#2514); pictures in Chat for Copilot, Grok and Hermes (#2479, #2481,
#2482); svg figures (#2477); math with dollar signs (#2498); Portal
sign-in with watch-only visitors (#2065); DeepSeek Harness in Settings →
Agents with its conversations in Chat on Linux (#2524, #2453); tab names
from the first message (#2502); notes on diff lines (#2505). Improved:
Expand thinking / Collapse work defaults (#2484), Chat spacing that
follows the font size (#2491), key bar drag reorder (#2463), same-host
links in an in-app popup on phones (#2459), Claude question cards with
steps and Back (#2503), OmO, Codex and Hermes cards with Back and Next
(#2506), one Connect a phone dialog (#2533), pictures shown whole
(#2539). Fixed: panes again on Safari 16.4–17.3 and iOS 16.4+ (#2535),
Stop with a queued follow-up keeps the stopped message (#2547), a first
message reaches Claude Code (#2526), Codex Chat after a finished answer
(#2443), question cards show at once and stay (#2543), Chat no longer
redraws turns or jumps (#2538, #2545), a setting kept across a quick
reload (#2487), Claude's plan card in narrow panes (#2541). Moved to the
changelog only to fit the 8-line lists: Codex behind Kiro (#2420), Pi
messages with spaces (#2474), the Claude question card between questions
(#2466, #2467, now covered by the question-card line), short-phone
overlap (#2494), cross-tab settings (#2486), the Antigravity note
(#2472), plus the subagent poll perf (#2527), relay transport (#2516),
herdr-core no-watch (#2512) and the other Fixed entries above.
- **Remote bundle:** `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` rises from 40 to 41 because
the bundle inputs (`server/`, `shared/`, `bun.lock`) changed since
remote-v40. After merge: push `remote-v41` on the merged commit and wait
for the Remote PC bundles workflow before running Release.
- **Telemetry:** `telemetry/worker.ts` and `shared/telemetry.ts` are
unchanged since `telemetry/deployed.json`; no Worker deploy.
## Validation
- `bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21`: before the bump it
asked to raise `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` from 40 to 41 and nothing else;
after it, "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order."
- `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel0422 -- bun run check fast` on this
branch: workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build,
unit tests all ok. Unit: 9827 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2474 (head `3de63b49`): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts
--base 653613c` "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order."; `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy
refresh2473 -- bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9827 pass, 0 fail, 41
skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2475 and correcting the #2474 credit (head `90536524`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base 653613c` "Release 0.4.22: remote
bundle, telemetry Worker and release metadata are in order.";
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy refresh2473b -- bun run check fast` all
ok, unit 9851 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2490, #2483, #2479 and #2482 (head `0da3756d`;
`e6eb7df6` removed the fragments and `0da3756d` adds their CHANGELOG
entries, which that commit left out): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts
--base 98c1f5e` "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order."; `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy
refresh2473c -- bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9855 pass, 0 fail, 41
skip in 623 files (with `TMPDIR` off the quota'd `/tmp` tmpfs; an
earlier run with the default `TMPDIR` hit `EDQUOT` there).
- After the fourth refresh (head `af31fa98`): `bun
scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main` both
"Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release metadata
are in order." main still has `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` 40 (no commit
since v0.4.21 touches it) and `remote-v41` is not tagged yet, so this
PR's 41 stays the one raise. `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473 --
bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9973 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 624
files.
- After the fifth refresh (head `b602a998`, merge of main `f5370d54`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473c -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10107 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 631 files.
- After the sixth refresh (head `e3b0dc37`, merge of main `feb3ae09`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473d -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10123 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 632 files.
- After the seventh refresh (head `7855c73c`, merge of main `a683e3ff`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473e -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10314 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 644 files.
- After the eighth refresh (head `f76f3ae4`, merge of main `0b215abf`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." #2514's and #2511's `server/` changes land
before `remote-v41` is tagged, so `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41.
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473g -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10363 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 649 files.
- After the ninth refresh (head `44048d5f`, merge of main `fbb97b62`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41; `remote-v41`
is not tagged yet). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473 -- bun run
check fast` all ok, unit 10511 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 654 files;
`server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts` 52
pass.
- After the tenth refresh (head `1cfcfab7`, merge of main `afdfb1e0`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41; both PRs are
client-only). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473j -- bun run check
fast` all ok, unit 10511 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 654 files;
`server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts` 52
pass.
- After the eleventh refresh (head `13fa0181`, merge of main
`2b620462`): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base
origin/main` both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41;
`remote-v41` is not tagged). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473k --
bun run check fast` all ok, unit 10551 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656
files; `server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts`
52 pass.
- After the twelfth refresh (head `3ae2133e`, merge of main `64ae5e72`):
both release guards "in order" (`--base v0.4.21` and `--base
origin/main`); `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473l -- bun run check
fast` all ok, unit 10553 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656 files;
release-notes tests 52 pass.
- After the thirteenth refresh (head `aebaabbf`, merge of main
`99a6671f`): both release guards "in order" (`--base v0.4.21` and
`--base origin/main`); `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473m -- bun
run check fast` all ok, unit 10553 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656 files;
release-notes tests 52 pass.
- Not run: `bun run check full` (integration and browser), left to CI;
no hands-on test of main, which is the owner's.
This is a release-metadata PR: it changes no code path. Per the release
steps, merge it after CI and the owner's go, then push `remote-v41`,
wait for its bundles, and run Release with `0.4.22`.

Change
A Codex pane inside Kiro's macOS shell-integration wrapper can look like a shell to Herdr:
pane.process_inforeports onlyzsh (kiro-cli-term)on the outer PTY. The foreground Codex runs under a login shell on an inner PTY. Ovis consequently renders terminal text in Chat instead of reading the native conversation.Add a narrowly scoped read-only fallback for this exact wrapper.
Both Chat and background transcript readers reject the old binding after a start-time change; unchanged processes retain it when the answer leaves the screen.1c5512fby returning the old conversation; it passes with the process-identity fix. Discovery tests also cover replacement of the wrapper, inner shell or Codex between requests.bun run typecheck: passed as part of the latest fast checks.UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=6 bun run check fast: generated types/themes, typecheck and build passed; workflow syntax was skipped. Unit suite: 8,846 passed, 14 failed, 205 skipped. Full checks are not green. The same 14 failure names were observed before this wrapper change (check teardown, session-history WAL handling, installer/browser scripts, runner scripts, Letta binding, file inventory, remote-entry lock and composer framing). Two were also independently reproduced on unmodified main during fix(codex): match local file links containing spaces #2417 investigation; the other failures were not independently rerun on clean main.git diff --check: passed.
