fix(chat): move between a form's questions from the card without answering - #2506
In Chat, an OmO question card with several questions lists them as steps, but none can be tapped, and the card has no Back or Next. The only way on was to answer. OmO's own form moves between its questions with Tab and Shift+Tab (or ←/→) and leaves them unanswered (senpi ask-user-question-keys.js, omo 5.1.51). Codex's request_user_input (←/→ "to navigate questions") and Hermes's clarify batch (Tab/Shift+Tab "switch question") had the same gap.
Investigated on every harness the card draws several questions for:
unchanged here; going forward to an unanswered step is a follow-up PR
What changes
Protocol: InteractivePrompt.can_step_next and PromptAnswer.step_next, next to the existing can_step_back/step_back/step_index.
server/dialogs/step-navigate.ts: a form whose own keys move between its questions (nativeSteps: identity, place, keys). The answer route sends one key at a time. Before each key the screen must show the form and question the last key reached, and after it the next question on the same form. Anything else returns 409 prompt_changed, and no more keys go out. It sends only the form's two keys, never Enter, Space or text. A move sent together with an answer, or with card edits the form does not show, is refused with 400.
OmO (omo.ts): every other tab is a step to tap, plus Back and Next (Tab/Shift+Tab). Its review goes back to any question. Nothing is offered while the typed-answer row is open, because Tab would save what is typed there.
Codex (codex.ts): Back and Next (←/→) when the hint says so. The flags stay out of the card's id.
Hermes (hermes.ts): the batch's questions become steps. The card moves only between open questions with none answered in between, because an answered question shows ✓ even while Tab is on it.
Client: a Next button at the header's end. The card's unsent edits hold the moves back on these agents, as they already do on pi. An answered step is tappable only on forms that do not mark their own steps.
Follows the agents' own TUIs: each one moves between questions without answering, so the card does the same with the same keys. It differs from the Claude and Codex apps, which show one question at a time with no skip, because Ovis mirrors a terminal form whose state lives in the agent.
Overlap with #2503 (Claude tabs): one line in blocksStepNavigation (src/lib/promptAnswer.ts), so either PR can merge first with a one-line rebase.
Validation
Failing first: server/question-steps.test.ts failed 11 of 14 on main; the two new client tests failed on main's client. All pass after the change.
Mutation checks: the guard for Next without Next, the Codex Back guard, the Hermes answered step, and the form-swap test each fail without their code.
Live, on an isolated herdr session with omo 5.1.51 (haiku via cliproxy): GET/POST went Q1 → Next → Q2 → step 3 → Q3 → Back → Q2, with omo still at Submit (0/3 answered).
Real UI in Chrome, Codex dark: at 390 the card moved on a touch tap of Next and on a tap of a step; at 1280 it moved on clicks of Next and Back. No page errors.
Reviews: omo-native-code-reviewer APPROVE (4 findings, all fixed). Codex gpt-6.1-terra fast xhigh: two findings fixed. A third (a form swapped in mid-move) is covered by the identity checks before and after each key, now pinned by a test. The typed-answer gating for Back and the steps belongs to feat(chat): go back between Claude Code's questions from the card (#2465) #2503's lines.
Skipped: check full and the Windows VM (no change to Windows paths).
…ering
OmO's question card listed the form's questions but none could be tapped, and it had no Back
or Next: OmO itself moves between them with Tab and Shift+Tab. Codex (←/→) and Hermes
(Tab/Shift+Tab) had the same gap.
- The card offers Next (`can_step_next`, answered with `step_next`), and OmO's and Hermes's
steps can be tapped; Codex gets Back and Next.
- The answer route sends the form's own key one at a time and reads the screen after each,
on the same form, before the next (server/dialogs/step-navigate.ts); anything else stops
with 409 and sends nothing more. It never sends Enter, Space or text.
- No move while OmO's typed-answer row is open (Tab would save it), nor across a Hermes
question already answered (its marker no longer shows where Tab is).
- The card's unsent edits hold the moves back on these agents, as on pi.
… id without its hint
Review follow-ups:
- A form drawn in place of this one after the first Tab, or before it, gets no further key.
- Next sent with an answer on a card without Next is refused, never read as that answer.
- Refusals assert their code, not only the status.
- Codex's Back and Next come from its hint, which a narrow pane may cut: they stay out of the
card's id, so the same question keeps it.

New Features
Navigate between unanswered questions in OmO, Codex, and Hermes prompts using Next, Back, or available question steps, without submitting an answer.
Question cards show Next when advancing is available, and unsaved typed edits prevent accidental navigation.
Bug Fixes
Navigation stops if the prompt changes, the target question cannot be confirmed, or the request times out, preventing unintended input.
Question cards for OmO, Codex, and Hermes now support moving between unanswered questions. The server parses navigation capabilities, validates requests, and sends agent-specific keys. The prompt card displays a Next control and applies draft-aware navigation rules.
Changes: Question navigation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Parse question steps and navigation shared/protocol.ts, server/dialogs/*, server/fixtures/question-steps-*, server/question-steps.test.ts
Prompt data and agent parsers expose question-step labels, navigation capabilities, and native key metadata. Terminal captures and parser tests cover the supported question states.
Validate and execute navigation server/dialogs/step-navigate.ts, server/prompt.ts, server/question-steps.test.ts, server/opencode-answer.test.ts
The answer route validates navigation targets and drafts, sends guarded keys, and verifies the resulting prompt state. Route tests cover invalid requests, stale prompts, and input-ownership guards.
Expose navigation in prompt cards src/lib/promptAnswer.ts, src/components/PromptCard.*, src/lib/i18n/composer.*, src/lib/promptAnswer.test.ts, changelog.d/question-card-next-question.md
Prompt cards show Next when supported and apply draft-aware navigation blocking. Tests and translations cover the control and its labels.
Issue 2465 describes similar navigation for Claude Code. This change adds shared Next navigation but implements it for OmO, Codex, and Hermes; Claude Code support remains unimplemented.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review 3cc0e
Navigation is not blocked by the investigated Next request. Direct test runs may time out on slower machines; give the two deadline-bound tests explicit timeouts.

CodeRabbit's review limit was reached on this PR, so these two reviews stand in for it (this PR changes the POST /api/pane/prompt/answer contract: step_next, can_step_next).
omo-native-code-reviewer (Claude Opus 5.5): APPROVE, no blockers. Its four findings:
MEDIUM, a test that could not fail: Next without Next was refused anyway as "no answer". Fixed in ff1e7a2. The test now sends step_next together with option_index, and asserts 400 invalid_answer with no keys sent. It fails when the guard in server/prompt.ts is removed.
MEDIUM, the main safety invariant was untested. Fixed in ff1e7a2 with two cases. In the first, a different form is drawn after the first Tab: 409, and only ["tab"] was sent. In the second, the screen changes between the card and the move: 409, and no key is sent. The first case fails when the identity checks in navigateNativeSteps are removed.
LOW, Codex's card id depended on its hint text. Fixed in ff1e7a2: can_step_back and can_step_next stay out of the id, as pi's questionnaire already does.
LOW, the refusal tests checked only the status. Fixed: they now assert { status: 400, code: "invalid_answer" }.
Codex gpt-6.1-terra (fast, xhigh):
HIGH, another form with the same labels could pass the check after a key. Covered: the identity includes OmO's call id where the session shows it. Every key is preceded by a fresh read that must match the card id, the form and its place. A swap is now pinned by the test in finding 2 above. Only the form's own Tab or Shift+Tab can ever go out, never Enter, Space or text.
MEDIUM, Codex's last question did not hold Back for unsent edits. Fixed in 3199bf9: blocksStepNavigation reads can_step_back too, with a test that fails without it.
LOW, Hermes drew an answered step it cannot reach as a button. Fixed in 3199bf9: an answered step falls back to tappable only on forms that mark no steps themselves, with a test that fails without it.
Strict review by the merge pass at ff1e7a2 (omo code reviewer on Claude plus a Codex Terra pass). No key reached a shell or another agent in the reproduced cases: shell, other agent, changed screen, last step, out-of-range step, stale card and watch devices are each refused with nothing sent. Tests 59/59 touched, 858/858 wider, typecheck clean. One round before merge, please:
Form identity (Terra, reproduced with mocked IO):server/dialogs/step-navigate.ts:77 accepts a different form at the expected step when its weak identity matches, and a second key follows; OmO forms may be identified by tab labels alone, Codex by question count only (codex.ts:83). Compare the card's own identity (question text and options) before each key.
Navigation outside the per-key guard (Terra, from the code):server/prompt.ts:1354 sends navigation keys without the per-key pi-ask check or the connection-time active guard, and the reads and sends in step-navigate.ts:67 are awaited without the 4 s deadline (the RPC timeout is 10 s). Route them through the same guard and deadline as the other answers.
OpenCode (Terra, from the code):prompt.ts:1189 handles an answer before step_next is rejected, so a request combining Next and an option can submit. Reject the combination first.
Hermes free-text (Claude, reproduced): Next onto a Hermes free-text question sends Tab and the pane moves, but the route waits 4 s and answers 409, and the next card has no steps or Back (hermes.ts:33-52 vs :76-84).
Fixtures: the screens in server/question-steps.test.ts:13-55 are string templates; add at least one real captured screen per agent (Hermes's Tab behaviour is unverified).
Merge order:#2503 first. This PR conflicts with it in one line (src/lib/promptAnswer.ts:14,135): resolve it as KEYED_STEPS plus "claude" (taking this side as is drops Claude's guard on unsent edits).
LOW: OmO card ids change when a resize cuts the tab bar (omo.ts:96). The read-to-send gap before pane.send_keys is shared with every prompt answer and is not new here.
… guarded keys
Merge-pass round on the step moves:
- OmO moves only on a form its session's call names, identified by every question and option it
asks; a form no call names shows its steps and offers no move.
- A move's keys go through the same per-key guard as an answer's (beforeKey: a pi-ask form or
an omp behind its shell takes none) inside the request's 4 s, each read raced against it.
- Next is refused before any form takes it as an answer: with an answer in the same body, or on
a card with no keys of its own to move by (OpenCode, pi-ask).
- Hermes's open-ended question keeps the batch's steps; while an answer is typed (no "switch
question" in the hint, Tab does nothing) no move is offered.
- Tests read real omo 5.1.51 and Codex 0.166 captures (fixtures/question-steps-*), with the
captured session call. Hermes 0.21.5 would not start on the capture PC, so its screens stay
drawn from its ui-tui source (prompts.tsx, i18n/en/overlays.ts).
Terra's review of the round:
- The guard before each move key races the deadline, and herdr is asked once more right before
it writes the key (paneSendKeys guard): past the deadline, no key at all.
- The pi-ask test opens the form between the last read and the next key's guard, so it fails
when the guard is left out of a move.
- The other-form test has omo settle its call and ask a new one with the same headers, as omo
appends to its session, so it fails when the identity is the tabs alone.
Merge-pass round, pushed as 92a757f and 3cc0ea2. Each new test fails first or is mutation-checked: removing the fix makes its own test fail.
Form identity: OmO moves only on a form its session's call names. The identity is the call id plus every question and option it asks (omoNavigation). A form no call names still shows its steps but offers no move. Test: omo settles its call and asks a new one with the same headers, and no second key goes out. It fails when the identity is the tabs alone.
Guarded keys: a move's keys go through the same per-key guard as an answer's (beforeKey: a pi-ask form, or an omp stopped behind its shell, takes no key). That guard is raced against the request's 4 s deadline. herdr is asked again right before it writes each key (paneSendKeys guard), and each read is raced against the deadline. Tests: a pi-ask form opened between the last read and the next key's guard gets no key; a guard that stalls past 4 s sends no key. Both fail without the change.
Next never submits:step_next is refused right after the card is matched, before the OpenCode and pi-ask branches, when it carries an answer or the card has no keys of its own to move by. OpenCode test: red, a Next carrying an answer submitted it; now 400 and nothing sent.
Hermes free-text question: an open-ended question keeps the batch's steps. While an answer is typed, the hint drops "Tab/Shift+Tab switch question" and Tab does nothing in Hermes, so the card offers no move then.
Real captures: tests now read real omo 5.1.51 (Q1, Q2, Q3, review, typing, plus the session's call) and Codex 0.166 (Q1, Q2, Back) screens from a 120x40 herdr pane (server/fixtures/question-steps-*, question-steps-captures.md). Hermes 0.21.5 would not start on the capture PC (missing httpx module, missing npm entry), so its test screens stay drawn from its ui-tui source (prompts.tsx, i18n/en/overlays.ts).
Validation: bun run check fast passed on 3cc0ea2 with nothing editing the tree (10048 pass, 0 fail, typecheck and build ok). Codex gpt-6.1-terra (fast, xhigh) reviewed this delta: three findings (the deadline gap, plus two tests that could not fail), all fixed, each fix now failing its own test when removed.
#2503: a dry run rebasing onto its head (355118c) conflicts only on the blocksStepNavigation line in src/lib/promptAnswer.ts, resolved as KEYED_STEPS + "claude". Typecheck is clean and the shared suites pass (894 pass, 0 fail). Once #2503 merges, I'll push one merge-only commit with that resolution.
Delta review by the merge pass at 3cc0ea2 (omo code reviewer on Claude plus Codex Terra). Fixed and not reproduced: the different-form attack for OmO and Codex, keys outside the guard or deadline (server/prompt.ts:1377-1380), OpenCode Next plus an option (400, prompt.ts:1204), Hermes free text keeps its steps and sends no Tab while text is typed; watch devices get 403. 477 tests and typecheck pass; with #2503 applied and promptAnswer.ts resolved as KEYED_STEPS plus "claude", 735 tests pass.
One small round, please:
MEDIUM, reproduced by both reviewers: Hermes form identity is still the question labels alone (server/dialogs/hermes.ts:55): a different batch with the same labels and changed options at the expected step took the second Tab (["tab","tab"], then 409). Include every option, as OmO does (omo.ts:102).
Deadline:paneSendKeys (prompt.ts:1380) and the first read (prompt.ts:1196) are not raced against the 4 s deadline, so a stalled reply holds the 409 for up to herdr's timeout; bound them.
Tests:question-steps.test.ts:289 assumes the guard is the fifth process lookup, and the deadline test spends about 4 s of Bun's 5 s; make both independent of call order and time.
LOW, for the merge note: Hermes still has no real capture (its TUI would not launch), so its screens are templates and the regex that keeps Tab out of typed Hermes text (hermes.ts:24) is unverified; the .ansi captures are unused (the tests read the .txt ones).

…and each key send
Merge-pass delta on the step moves:
- Hermes: the batch is named by every question's text, which are answered and the answer drawn
under each. Hermes draws a question's options only while it is open, so nothing on screen
names the options of the question a key moves to: a Hermes move is one key (Back, Next, the
next step), each asked anew against the card it leaves, whose id holds the open question and
its options. A batch with the same questions drawn after a Tab gets no second one.
- The answer route's first read and each move's key send are held to the request's deadline:
a late read sends nothing, and a key whose reply never comes ends the move and the asking.
- Tests no longer count herdr calls or wait out 4 s: the deadline (answerDeadlineMs) and the
look before each key (beforeKey, refusing with KeyRefused) are injected.
… a pressed key may have moved
Terra's review of the delta:
- pi's own tab moves (pi-ask tabs, questionnaire) share the moves' guarded keys: the look before
each key, herdr's write and every read are held to the request's deadline (moveKeys).
- Once a key may have been pressed (its write went out, or its reply never came), a move that
then fails ends the asking, so the same drawing is asked anew and the card it left takes no
further move; a failure proven to come before the write (cancelled, unreachable) does not.
- The Hermes identity test compares batches with the same questions, answered or answered
otherwise, so it fails when the identity is the questions alone.
- The looks that never come back in tests are promises that never settle, not fixed sleeps.
Merge-pass delta round, pushed as 4f8d4e5 and 44085d2. Each new test fails on 3cc0ea2 (or with its fix removed) and passes now.
Hermes identity: the batch is now named by every question's text, which questions are answered, and the answer drawn under each (hermesNavigation). Hermes draws a question's options only while it is open, so nothing on the screen names the options of the question a key moves to. A Hermes move is therefore one key (Back, Next, or the adjacent step), and each request is checked again against the card it leaves, whose id holds the open question and its options. Test: a batch with the same questions but other choices, drawn after a Tab, gets no second key (on 3cc0ea2: 200 and both Tabs sent). A labels-only identity fails the identity test.
Deadline: the answer route's first read, and each move's look-before-key, herdr write and reads, are held to the same request deadline (moveKeys, shared by omo/Codex/Hermes moves and pi's own tab moves). A late first read sends nothing. A key whose reply never comes ends the move. Once a key may have been pressed, a failed move also ends the asking, so the card it left takes no further move. Tests: late first read, sends nothing (on 3cc0ea2: it sent the answer); a reply that never comes, 409 at the deadline (on 3cc0ea2: hung until the test timed out); a pi tab look that outlasts the deadline, nothing sent (on 3cc0ea2: 200 and the key sent); a pressed key with no confirmed move, card asked anew (on 3cc0ea2: same id).
De-flaked tests: the deadline (answerDeadlineMs) and the look before each key (beforeKey, refusing with KeyRefused) are injected. No test counts herdr calls any more. The slowest test is about 0.3 s (it was about 4 s). There are no fixed sleeps: a look that never comes back is a promise that never settles.
Hermes has no real capture: Hermes 0.21.5 would not start on the capture PC (missing httpx module, missing npm entry), so its test screens are drawn from its ui-tui source (prompts.tsx, i18n/en/overlays.ts), not captured. omo 5.1.51 and Codex 0.166 tests read real captures.
Validation:bun run check fast passed on 44085d2 with nothing editing the tree (10053 pass, 0 fail, typecheck and build ok). Codex gpt-6.1-terra (fast, xhigh) reviewed this delta. Its three findings are fixed in 44085d2: pi's tab moves are now under the deadline too, a possibly pressed key ends the asking, and the Hermes identity test now fails when the identity is the questions alone.
#2503: the merge-only commit (promptAnswer.ts as KEYED_STEPS + "claude") still follows its merge.
…e's tab moves do
A poll that read the card during an omo, Codex or Hermes move came back with a card the move had
already ended, so the next tap on it was refused (prompt_changed): the same bug #2503's review
found for Claude's tabs. A move is now a new asking begun before its first key; once it lands
the asking stands for the question it landed on, and the end of the move counts as an answer turn
so a read begun during it changes nothing. A move that fails after a key may have gone out still
ends the asking.
Pushed 93a07fd: a move keeps its asking on the question it lands on (omo, Codex, Hermes), as #2503 now does for Claude's and pi's tabs.
Without this, jpcarranza94's bug 2 from #2503 also hit these cards: a poll that read the card during a move came back with a card the move had already ended, so the next tap was refused. A move is now a new asking begun before its first key. Once it lands, the asking stands for the question it landed on, and the end of the move counts as an answer turn. A move that fails after a key may have gone out still ends the asking. Test (red on 44085d2, green now): "OmO: a card a poll reads during a step answers the next tap". bun run check fast passed on 93a07fd (10054 pass, 0 fail).
Merge-only commit after #2503 (dry run against its head 6dac69b, git's recorded resolution): server/prompt.ts keeps #2503's asking.content = moved.id and its end-of-move answer count on the pi/Claude path, with no askingEnded after a successful move on either path. promptAnswer.ts is KEYED_STEPS plus "claude". Typecheck and the affected suites pass on the merged tree (879 pass, 0 fail).
Merging 3ed8b95 (main with #2503 merged in) (fixes an owner-reported bug; the owner picked it for 0.4.22 and saw the screenshots): OmO's question card steps are tappable with Back/Next (Tab/Shift+Tab), Codex gets Back/Next (←/→) and Hermes gets steps with Back/Next; each key is checked on screen before the next, otherwise 409 and nothing more is sent. Strict review by the merge pass (omo code reviewer on Claude plus Codex Terra, two delta rounds): no key reached a shell, another agent or a changed form; form identity is the call id plus every question and option (OmO) and every question text, answered state and drawn answer (Hermes), so a lookalike form never takes a second key; the first read and every key and read are bounded by the 4 s deadline; Next never submits; OpenCode Next plus an option is refused; watch devices cannot answer. Tests 897/0 (300/300 over 5 reruns), with the deadline and guard injected. 93a07fd keeps a move's asking on the question it lands on (as #2503 does), so a card polled during a move answers the next tap; delta re-checked clean, and the merge with #2503 (KEYED_STEPS plus "claude", asking.content = moved.id, end-of-move answer turn) passes 910 tests. LOW noted: a move refused before any key still opens a new asking, so its card gets 409 until the next poll (no key sent); Hermes has no real capture (0.21.5 would not start here), so its screens are templates and its switch-hint regex is unverified; the .ansi captures are unused (the tests read the .txt ones); the read-to-send gap before pane.send_keys is shared with every prompt answer.
…stion cards (#2508)
## What was wrong
Follow-up to #2506. The Chat question card could not move forward to an
unanswered question, or between questions at all, where the agent's own
terminal UI can:
| Harness | The agent itself (source) | Card before | Card after |
|---|---|---|---|
| pi-ask tabs (rpiv-ask-user-question 2.13.9) | Right moves on without
answering (`state/key-router.ts:130-145`,
`state/state-reducer.ts:127-146`) | Back and earlier tabs only | Next
too (→, each move seen) |
| pi-ask `ask_user` (@eko24ive/pi-ask 1.2.0) | moveTab cycles every
question (`src/state/navigation.ts:30-42`,
`src/ui/controller.ts:281-285`) | earlier or answered steps only | any
question, and Next; drafts kept, no keys sent |
| omp Ask (pi-tui 18.13.2) | Tab/Shift+Tab between questions
(`chrome/selector-helpers.ts:75-90`,
`overlays/ask-dialog.ts:739-742,1483-1486`) | one question, no steps |
steps, Back and Next between questions |
| OpenCode native form | not established from the installed build | Back
only | unchanged |
## What changes
- **pi-ask tabs:** Next where the next tab is itself navigable.
- **pi-ask `ask_user`:** every question is reachable, as pi-ask's own
moveTab allows. The bridge saves the card's draft on a move and sends no
terminal keys.
- **omp:** steps come from its styled tab strip, and only from a
complete, unambiguous one. Moves use Tab and Shift+Tab through the
shared guarded, deadline-bound move keys from #2506, and only on a
question whose drawn text and options are the pane's single open ask
call. The identity is session + call id + full arguments.
- The review draws only headers and answers, so it offers no move, and
no step goes onto it.
- The card's id does not depend on whether the colours or the call could
be proven on that read.
- Without colour proof or a matching call, the card offers no move, and
ordinary answers keep working.
- **OpenCode:** its rule for leaving a required field empty could not be
established from the installed binary, so forward moves stay off there.
## Validation
- Failing-first tests for each harness, and mutation checks (22 cases)
where a fix could be removed.
- 24 rendered native omp states checked against its own handlers (dark
and light, 120 and 60 columns).
- `bun run check fast` green on the head rebased onto main (10129 pass,
0 fail).
- Reviews: Codex `gpt-6.1-terra` (fast, xhigh), three passes, every
finding fixed with a failing-first test. The lead's own review of the
whole diff found nothing blocking.
- Not run: `check full`, Windows VM (no Windows-specific path).

## Release 0.4.22
The release PR, prepared by step 1 of
[docs/development.md#releasing](https://github.com/devswha/ovis/blob/main/docs/development.md#releasing)
on main `41492320` (#2453 the last merge), refreshed to main `99a6671f`
(#2582 the last merge).
**Do not merge yet:** the owner tests main and judges the final build
before release. No tag and no Release run from this PR's author.
- **Version:** `version` is 0.4.22 in `package.json` and
`herdr-plugin.toml`.
- **Changelog:** `bun scripts/changelog-fold.ts 0.4.22` (2026-10-31,
local) folded 20 fragments into the 2026-10-31 section of `CHANGELOG.md`
(23 entries with the hand entry), linked their PRs and deleted the
fragments; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
- `by @login` on every outside contributor's PR link: #2453@jokkopucko,
#2452@jokkopucko, #2442@nahwan-kim, #2463@zerodice0, #2468@Yoonwoo-Ha, #2065@rabbitson87 (both entries), #2466@jpcarranza94,
#2467@jpcarranza94, #2457@YuuuXie, #2420@cheol-95 (both entries),
#2459@Haeminway1, #2450@briantcl1992, #2448@briantcl1992.
- One outside PR had no fragment and got an entry by hand: #2448
(installer test no longer finds the host's Node, Maintenance).
- Issue reporters: #2442's entry credits @Ploppy3, who asked for
herdr-core support in #2439. The other fixed issues were filed by the
PR's own author (#2460@zerodice0, #2464@jpcarranza94, #2419@cheol-95,
#2089@rabbitson87) or the maintainer (#2444), so the PR credit covers
them.
- Two fragments ran past the changelog's width (#2443, #2446); their
entries are re-wrapped, words unchanged.
- Folded after the PR opened (merge of main `653613cb`, by hand per the
release steps): #2474 (Pi Chat message with leading/trailing spaces, a
tab or a trailing `@mention` no longer stuck "waiting for transcript",
Fixed), credited `reported by @BeerBelly69` (he reported issue #2454;
the PR is the maintainer's, so the earlier `by @BeerBelly69` was
corrected in `90536524`). Its fragment is deleted; `changelog.d` holds
only `README.md`. The release summaries are unchanged: their fixed list
is already at five lines.
- Folded in a second refresh (merge of main `98c1f5e0`, by hand): #2475
(a reconnecting or reloading browser gets back its follow-up's lost
"sent" receipt, Fixed), credited `reported by @christso`, who filed
#2421 and proposed the approach. Its fragment is deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`. The release summaries are unchanged (fixed list
already at five lines).
- Folded in a third refresh (merge of main `af20e0a4`, by hand): #2490
(Chat keeps its messages mounted when the pane's skill names load, so a
decoded image no longer drops back to its loading slot, Fixed), credited
`by @nocstah` (outside PR, no linked issue); #2483 (a Copilot turn stays
whole when its pictures pass the page window, Fixed); #2479 (Chat shows
the pictures in a Copilot CLI session, Added); #2482 (Chat shows the
picture attached to a Hermes prompt, Added). #2483, #2479 and #2482 are
maintainer PRs; #2483's issue #2478 is the maintainer's, so no reporter
credit. #2480 (site only) had no fragment. Their fragments are deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The release summaries are
unchanged: the fixed list is already at five lines, and the two new
picture features stay in the changelog only (the new list has room for
them if the owner wants them there).
- Folded in a fourth refresh (merge of main `4ca7d24d`, by hand): #2481
(Grok pictures in Chat), #2477 (svg figures, `reported by @affeek`, who
filed #2441 and co-authored the PR), #2498 (dollar math, `reported by
@kjohnsen`, #2407), #2484 (Expand thinking / Collapse work defaults,
`reported by @altgans and @Ploppy3`, #2346 and #2228) under Added; #2494
(`by @todor-a`), #2491 (`by @nocstah`), #2487, #2486, #2472 (`reported
by @matiemer`, #2462) and #2476 (relay session uses the server's port)
under Fixed. 10 fragments deleted; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
Every entry's credit was re-checked with GraphQL (PR author, closing
issues' authors, commit authors): #2487's #2374, #2486's #2485 and
#2483's #2478 are the maintainer's, so no reporter credit.
- Folded in a fifth refresh (merge of main `f5370d54`, by hand): #2503
(Claude question card steps and Back, `reported and co-authored by
@jpcarranza94`, who filed #2465 and co-authored the fix), #2502 (tab
name from its first message, `reported by @vibewriter-hand`, #2019) and
#2505 (a note on a diff line goes into the next message; #1603 is the
maintainer's, so no credit) under Added; #2506 (OmO, Codex and Hermes
question cards move between questions without answering; it closes no
issue, so no credit) under Fixed. 4 fragments deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`. #2499's hand-written relay entry is kept. All
four PRs are the maintainer's; credits re-checked with GraphQL (PR
author, closing issues' authors, commit authors).
- Sixth refresh (merge of main `feb3ae09`, head `e3b0dc37`): main had no
fragment left to fold. #2504 (the owner's PR, no fragment) gets a hand
entry under Added next to #2499's: the PC side of the relay, which
answers the relay's server proof, `/api/relay` start/stop routes
restricted to the owner and to direct connections, and a relay QR from
`plugin pair`; off by default with no Settings switch yet. No credit
(maintainer PR). It stays out of the release summaries (off by default,
no UI).
- Seventh refresh (merge of main `a683e3ff`, head `7855c73c`): folded
#2509's two fragments by hand, two entries under Added (the phone side
of the relay: the hosted shell that pairs from the PC's relay QR and
opens the app end-to-end encrypted; files and chat images through the
relay) and one under Fixed (the iOS and Android apps no longer show the
hosted shell's home-screen hint). Each says the relay is off by default.
#2499's entry now says Ovis uses the relay only once a PC's relay link
is started. No credit (maintainer PR). The fragments are deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The relay stays out of the release
summaries.
- Eighth refresh (merge of main `0b215abf`, head `f76f3ae4`): folded
#2514's three fragments by hand under Fixed (relay connection limits and
the 30 s wait for an absent PC, proof of the PC's relay key, the hosted
shell's copy-on-select and relay-control requests) and added a hand
entry for #2514 under Added: remote access through the Ovis relay can be
turned on in **Settings → Phone & devices** (off by default), with the
iOS and Android apps opening a relay-paired PC from its link;
app.ovis.sh is deployed separately. #2499, #2504 and #2509's entries no
longer say there is no Settings switch: they now say the relay is turned
on in Settings. No credit (maintainer PR). Also folded #2511 (Claude
task-list scan on file workers, Fixed, `by @duytbp`) and #2518 (feedback
typed on Claude Code's plan card keeps Claude planning, Fixed, `by
@jpcarranza94`, who also reported #2517, so no separate reporter
credit). #2515 is docs only, no fold. 5 fragments deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`.
- Ninth refresh (merge of main `fbb97b62`, head `44048d5f`, fold in the
merge commit): folded 23 fragments by hand: 7 entries under Added
(#2514's rewritten relay-identity entry, which replaces its old Fixed
entry about the PC's relay key; #2519 Letta model pill `by @homebodify`;
#2522 relay bulk window and the relay overview, self-hosting and
hosted-shell attestation; #2524 DeepSeek Harness in the catalog), 3
under Changed (#2533 Connect a phone dialog and the `tailscale serve`
box; #2539 chat pictures shown whole) and 26 under Fixed: #2508; #2512
`by @lifeofpi-ux`; #2516; #2521, #2526, #2531, #2538, #2541, #2543,
#2545, #2547, #2549 and #2551 `by @jpcarranza94`; #2527 `reported by
@duytbp` (#2510); #2532; #2535 `reported by @devtm1123` (#2513). #2532's
#2523 is the maintainer's; @jpcarranza94's issues (#2525, #2537, #2540,
#2542, #2544, #2546, #2548, #2550) are covered by his PR credit. #2529
(perf) is not merged and stays out of 0.4.22. 23 fragments deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
- Tenth refresh (merge of main `afdfb1e0`, head `1cfcfab7`, fold in the
merge commit), on the owner's OK for both: folded #2567 (Connect a phone
shows three choice cards and opens on the relay whenever it is offered,
with the relay's switch on its card on a tailnet; maintainer PR, no
credit) under Changed and #2555 (the New workspace folder picker's
compact row; `by @iwangjie`, no linked issue) under Fixed. 2 fragments
deleted; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The IMPROVED summary line
now says the relay needs no Tailscale, in en, ko, ja and zh.
- Eleventh refresh (merge of main `2b620462`, head `13fa0181`, fold in
the merge commit), on the owner's go for each: folded 13 entries from 12
fragments by hand. Changed: #2562 (a chat starts loading when the press
begins, `by @jpcarranza94`), #2574 (Quote a selection into the message
box), #2578 (the relay's switch, reset and failures only in Connect a
phone). Fixed: #2564 and #2560 (two entries) `by @jpcarranza94`; #2554
`by @iwangjie`; #2577; #2576 (the session-bound conversation cache,
fixing the two HIGHs the post-merge Codex Terra review reproduced in
#2562 and #2545); #2572 `reported by @rkqksk` (#2557); #2570 `reported
by @nathanvale` (#2566); #2571 `reported by @altgans` (#2568); #2575
`reported by @matiemer` (#2558). @jpcarranza94's own issues (#2559,
#2561, #2563) are covered by his PR credit. 12 fragments deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. IMPROVED summary: "Select words in
a Chat reply to quote them into your message." replaces the spacing
line, in en, ko, ja and zh.
- Twelfth refresh (merge of main `64ae5e72`, head `3ae2133e`), on Dori's
go: folded #2580 under Fixed (the Cloudflare relay closes both ends of a
pair after a frame send fails, so they reconnect at once; maintainer PR,
no credit) and deleted its fragment. #2579 (guide only) has no fragment.
Summaries unchanged.
- Thirteenth refresh (merge of main `99a6671f`, head `aebaabbf`), on
Dori's go: folded #2582 under Fixed (`by @iwangjie`: the folder picker's
Show hidden waits for a loading folder; the path bar wraps at very
narrow widths) and deleted its fragment. Summaries unchanged.
- Maintainer PRs without a fragment and without a user-facing change
have no entry: #2436 (relay crypto/mux foundations, not wired yet),
#2445 (CI contract test against a pinned hc).
- **Release summaries:** en, ko, ja and zh each have 8 new, 8 improved
and 8 fixed lines (8 is the most a list the app reads may hold, 90
characters a line). New: remote access through the Ovis relay, turned on
in Settings (off by default), with app.ovis.sh shipping separately
(#2514); pictures in Chat for Copilot, Grok and Hermes (#2479, #2481,
#2482); svg figures (#2477); math with dollar signs (#2498); Portal
sign-in with watch-only visitors (#2065); DeepSeek Harness in Settings →
Agents with its conversations in Chat on Linux (#2524, #2453); tab names
from the first message (#2502); notes on diff lines (#2505). Improved:
Expand thinking / Collapse work defaults (#2484), Chat spacing that
follows the font size (#2491), key bar drag reorder (#2463), same-host
links in an in-app popup on phones (#2459), Claude question cards with
steps and Back (#2503), OmO, Codex and Hermes cards with Back and Next
(#2506), one Connect a phone dialog (#2533), pictures shown whole
(#2539). Fixed: panes again on Safari 16.4–17.3 and iOS 16.4+ (#2535),
Stop with a queued follow-up keeps the stopped message (#2547), a first
message reaches Claude Code (#2526), Codex Chat after a finished answer
(#2443), question cards show at once and stay (#2543), Chat no longer
redraws turns or jumps (#2538, #2545), a setting kept across a quick
reload (#2487), Claude's plan card in narrow panes (#2541). Moved to the
changelog only to fit the 8-line lists: Codex behind Kiro (#2420), Pi
messages with spaces (#2474), the Claude question card between questions
(#2466, #2467, now covered by the question-card line), short-phone
overlap (#2494), cross-tab settings (#2486), the Antigravity note
(#2472), plus the subagent poll perf (#2527), relay transport (#2516),
herdr-core no-watch (#2512) and the other Fixed entries above.
- **Remote bundle:** `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` rises from 40 to 41 because
the bundle inputs (`server/`, `shared/`, `bun.lock`) changed since
remote-v40. After merge: push `remote-v41` on the merged commit and wait
for the Remote PC bundles workflow before running Release.
- **Telemetry:** `telemetry/worker.ts` and `shared/telemetry.ts` are
unchanged since `telemetry/deployed.json`; no Worker deploy.
## Validation
- `bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21`: before the bump it
asked to raise `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` from 40 to 41 and nothing else;
after it, "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order."
- `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel0422 -- bun run check fast` on this
branch: workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build,
unit tests all ok. Unit: 9827 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2474 (head `3de63b49`): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts
--base 653613c` "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order."; `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy
refresh2473 -- bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9827 pass, 0 fail, 41
skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2475 and correcting the #2474 credit (head `90536524`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base 653613c` "Release 0.4.22: remote
bundle, telemetry Worker and release metadata are in order.";
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy refresh2473b -- bun run check fast` all
ok, unit 9851 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2490, #2483, #2479 and #2482 (head `0da3756d`;
`e6eb7df6` removed the fragments and `0da3756d` adds their CHANGELOG
entries, which that commit left out): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts
--base 98c1f5e` "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order."; `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy
refresh2473c -- bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9855 pass, 0 fail, 41
skip in 623 files (with `TMPDIR` off the quota'd `/tmp` tmpfs; an
earlier run with the default `TMPDIR` hit `EDQUOT` there).
- After the fourth refresh (head `af31fa98`): `bun
scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main` both
"Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release metadata
are in order." main still has `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` 40 (no commit
since v0.4.21 touches it) and `remote-v41` is not tagged yet, so this
PR's 41 stays the one raise. `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473 --
bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9973 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 624
files.
- After the fifth refresh (head `b602a998`, merge of main `f5370d54`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473c -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10107 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 631 files.
- After the sixth refresh (head `e3b0dc37`, merge of main `feb3ae09`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473d -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10123 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 632 files.
- After the seventh refresh (head `7855c73c`, merge of main `a683e3ff`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473e -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10314 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 644 files.
- After the eighth refresh (head `f76f3ae4`, merge of main `0b215abf`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." #2514's and #2511's `server/` changes land
before `remote-v41` is tagged, so `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41.
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473g -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10363 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 649 files.
- After the ninth refresh (head `44048d5f`, merge of main `fbb97b62`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41; `remote-v41`
is not tagged yet). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473 -- bun run
check fast` all ok, unit 10511 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 654 files;
`server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts` 52
pass.
- After the tenth refresh (head `1cfcfab7`, merge of main `afdfb1e0`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41; both PRs are
client-only). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473j -- bun run check
fast` all ok, unit 10511 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 654 files;
`server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts` 52
pass.
- After the eleventh refresh (head `13fa0181`, merge of main
`2b620462`): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base
origin/main` both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41;
`remote-v41` is not tagged). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473k --
bun run check fast` all ok, unit 10551 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656
files; `server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts`
52 pass.
- After the twelfth refresh (head `3ae2133e`, merge of main `64ae5e72`):
both release guards "in order" (`--base v0.4.21` and `--base
origin/main`); `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473l -- bun run check
fast` all ok, unit 10553 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656 files;
release-notes tests 52 pass.
- After the thirteenth refresh (head `aebaabbf`, merge of main
`99a6671f`): both release guards "in order" (`--base v0.4.21` and
`--base origin/main`); `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473m -- bun
run check fast` all ok, unit 10553 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656 files;
release-notes tests 52 pass.
- Not run: `bun run check full` (integration and browser), left to CI;
no hands-on test of main, which is the owner's.
This is a release-metadata PR: it changes no code path. Per the release
steps, merge it after CI and the owner's go, then push `remote-v41`,
wait for its bundles, and run Release with `0.4.22`.

What was wrong
In Chat, an OmO question card with several questions lists them as steps, but none can be tapped, and the card has no Back or Next. The only way on was to answer. OmO's own form moves between its questions with Tab and Shift+Tab (or ←/→) and leaves them unanswered (senpi
ask-user-question-keys.js, omo 5.1.51). Codex'srequest_user_input(←/→ "to navigate questions") and Hermes's clarify batch (Tab/Shift+Tab "switch question") had the same gap.Investigated on every harness the card draws several questions for:
step_index→ 400request_user_inputWhat changes
InteractivePrompt.can_step_nextandPromptAnswer.step_next, next to the existingcan_step_back/step_back/step_index.server/dialogs/step-navigate.ts: a form whose own keys move between its questions (nativeSteps: identity, place, keys). The answer route sends one key at a time. Before each key the screen must show the form and question the last key reached, and after it the next question on the same form. Anything else returns 409prompt_changed, and no more keys go out. It sends only the form's two keys, never Enter, Space or text. A move sent together with an answer, or with card edits the form does not show, is refused with 400.omo.ts): every other tab is a step to tap, plus Back and Next (Tab/Shift+Tab). Its review goes back to any question. Nothing is offered while the typed-answer row is open, because Tab would save what is typed there.codex.ts): Back and Next (←/→) when the hint says so. The flags stay out of the card's id.hermes.ts): the batch's questions become steps. The card moves only between open questions with none answered in between, because an answered question shows✓even while Tab is on it.Follows the agents' own TUIs: each one moves between questions without answering, so the card does the same with the same keys. It differs from the Claude and Codex apps, which show one question at a time with no skip, because Ovis mirrors a terminal form whose state lives in the agent.
Overlap with #2503 (Claude tabs): one line in
