Codex 0.163 and 0.166 draw a completed-turn footer under every finished answer, indented like the answer's own wrapped lines:
• At noon, Oskar the ferryman rested his oars beside the Elbe and counted the swans as they drifted past: ...
far bank, carrying his strange year with him.
Worked for 4s • 7:05 PM
› Ask Codex to do anything
GPT-6-Luna low · /private/tmp/kiro2420-qa/proj · Write Oskar's Elbe paragraph
← for agents · ? for shortcuts
Since #2430, an answer ties a pane to its conversation only when it is shown whole in one block, both ends. The footer makes every finished answer's block one line too long, so the whole-block match fails once a turn finishes. Unless another of main's matchers catches the pane, Chat falls back to the terminal. 0.4.21 ships with this. It was reproduced with a plain Codex pane on the test MacBook Air: main showed the terminal on both reads, and this branch showed the pane's own conversation on both.
Change
The footer is taken off only when all of these hold:
Placement. It sits directly under the last answer block on screen, with one blank line between them. It is followed only by blank lines and then Codex's composer. The composer is idle and empty (› alone, or with its placeholder), and below it there are only Codex's own status rows, at most four. That is the same pattern codex-steering already reads (FOOTER, now exported). A turn still under way, a message sent since, a read cut before the composer, or a screen an exited Codex left all fail this check.
Owner. The answer above the footer counts for exactly one conversation: the one candidate of this folder whose last finished turn (task_complete, by turn_id with its UserMessage) was asked the prompt shown and ended on exactly that answer. Prompt and answer are compared with whitespace collapsed and every other character as written. There is no Unicode folding, and stars and backticks stay literal.
This folder only. Only the store's conversations of this folder may own the footer. A conversation herdr reports, or one a title names, from another folder can only keep another candidate from owning it. There is no scan of other folders.
Fail closed. No candidate owns the footer in either of these cases:
any candidate's answer, or any turn it records finished, ends in a footer-shaped line;
another candidate's last finished turn may be the one shown, read loosely: its prompt unread or ending in the shown one, and its answer's letters and digits equal to those shown.
Footer shape. The footer's clock can be 7:05 PM or 19:05, optionally dated as in Codex 0.166 (Oct 29 at 7:05 PM). An impossible clock such as 31:05 PM, or any text after the bullet, is not a footer.
Everything else falls back exactly as on main.displayedFirstExchange keeps main's own footer pattern.
On macOS, a plain Codex pane's own rollout cannot be identified through its process or session, which is why ownership is limited to this folder. herdr reports no agent_session, the command line names no thread, and since Codex 0.157 the shared daemon holds every rollout open.
Validation
New testmatches an answer above Codex's completed-turn footer, and only that footer (regression) in server/codex.test.ts, built from the screen herdr read from Codex 0.163.0 on macOS. It fails on main, where the recorded screen gives null, and on every earlier head of this PR. Each fallback case in it was first reproduced as a wrong match on the head before.
server/codex.test.ts, server/codex-processes.test.ts, server/conversation.test.ts and server/codex-steering.test.ts pass.

its own conversation
Linux (Codex 0.163.0, herdr 0.9.5), plain prose answer
its own conversation
its own conversation
Not run: Windows, and the browser and integration lanes (CI runs them).
Known limits (pending the owner's decision at the merge pass)
Each of these falls back to the terminal unless it is listed as a wrong match.
Residual: the pane's own conversation is not among this folder's candidates, while one candidate here was asked the identical prompt and finished on the identical answer. That candidate matches.
K1, rendered link (exotic): the pane's own answer ends in a link that Codex renders shortened, for example [guide](/repo/docs/guide.md) shown as guide (docs/guide.md). Another conversation of this folder was asked the identical prompt, and its literal answer is that rendered text. The loose check compares letters and digits, so repo keeps the pane's own conversation from counting, and the other conversation can own the footer.
K2 (pre-existing on main): three rollouts are involved. The pane's own; a second whose current answer differs only by bold (**native**); and a third that holds an earlier answer still on screen. The second keeps the footer from being owned, as designed, and main's whole-answer match then finds only the third, through the earlier answer.
Rendered Markdown: an answer Codex renders differently from its text (bold, code, lists, links) does not match through the footer, because stars and backticks stay literal. It falls back as on main.
No status rows: a screen with no status rows below the composer falls back. That also happens when the read was cut right at the composer.
Reviews
Each round had two adversarial reviewers: the omo-native-code-reviewer and Codex Terra 6.1 (fast, xhigh). Every finding a reviewer reproduced is fixed above, with a test, except K1 and K2. The round-by-round findings and resolutions are in the PR comments.
Codex 0.163 draws "Worked for 4s • 7:05 PM" below each finished answer,
indented like the answer's own wrapped lines. Since #2430 an answer
counts only when its whole block matches, and that line made every
finished answer's block one line too long, so Chat fell back to the
terminal (reproduced on macOS with a plain Codex pane).
The footer is read away only in Codex's exact shape with its clock, on
a line of its own with a blank line above it and nothing below it but
blank lines up to the next prompt. The answer above it then counts only
for a conversation whose rollout records a turn that finished on that
same answer at the footer's clock (task_complete). Anything else, an
answer still being written or one ending in a footer-shaped line of its
own included, keeps the line and falls back as before.

Bug Fixes
Codex Chat now returns to the conversation pane after an answer finishes, rather than remaining on the terminal view. Completed answers can still be recognized when the completion footer is no longer visible, helping ensure the conversation pane returns for the correct response. This makes it easier to review the finished answer and continue using the chat.
Codex transcript matching now recognizes answers when a qualifying completed-turn footer is absent from the screen. It checks the displayed answer and footer clock against a matching completion record. Regression tests cover accepted and rejected matches.
Changes: Codex completed-turn footer matching
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Parse and validate completed-turn footers server/codex.ts
Recognizes qualifying clocked footers and checks completion records against normalized answers and timestamps. The shared footer pattern is also used by displayedFirstExchange.
Match answers with completed-turn footers server/codex.ts, server/codex.test.ts, changelog.d/codex-turn-footer.md
Matches answer blocks after the last Codex header. Uses footer-free blocks only when the completion record and footer clock match. Adds regression tests and a changelog entry.
In an uncommon multi-answer case, the conversation pane could show the wrong conversation. Pair each answer with its own footer clock before merging, or explicitly accept this bounded risk.

Merge-pass review of ba90f29, each reproduced: the footer's clock alone
let the same answer from another day, another turn's footer, or an
answer's own footer-shaped last line pick another conversation; an
impossible clock ("31:05 PM") was read as 7:05 PM; and comparing clocks
across time zones could reject a genuine turn.
A footer now vouches only for the answer block directly above it (one
blank line between, only blank lines down to the next prompt), and only
on the screen of the Codex shown last. That answer counts for a
conversation whose rollout records a turn, by its id, that was asked the
prompt shown above it and finished on exactly that answer. No clock is
compared. An answer that ends in a footer-shaped line falls back, as
nothing tells that line from Codex's. Codex 0.166's dated footers
("Oct 29 at 7:05 PM") are read; any impossible clock is not a footer.
Review of 0631035 (Codex Terra): displayedFirstExchange shared the new
footer pattern, so it began to drop a dated line ("Worked for 1s • Oct 29
at 7:05 PM") from an answer's end, and a first exchange whose answer
really ends in such a line could match another conversation's. It reads
Codex's footer with main's exact pattern again.
Review of 0631035 (omo): a turn with no recorded message counted as
asked an empty prompt, so a bare prompt line above an answer tied it to
that turn. A turn now counts only when its prompt was recorded and is
the one shown. Tests also pin that each answer pairs with its own turn's
prompt: a turn of the candidate asked this prompt but finished on
another answer, or a turn asked the first prompt that finished on the
second answer, is neither.
Pushed 0631035d, 7ecac115 and 80c19a10 (no force push).
0631035d Tie an answer above a footer to its own turn, not a clock. All three HIGHs from the merge pass, and the impossible clock, were reproduced on ba90f29c and are fixed. Each has a test that fails on ba90f29c:
Finding
ba90f29c
now
Same answer from another day's turn, own conversation missing
another conversation
terminal
Another visible turn's footer vouches for a different answer
another conversation
terminal
An answer whose own last line is footer-shaped
another conversation
terminal
Impossible clock (31:05 PM) taken as 7:05 PM
read as a footer
not a footer
The rule now:
Footer position: a footer vouches only for the answer block directly above it. There is one blank line between them, and below the footer only blank lines down to the next › prompt. Only the screen of the Codex shown last counts, below its last OpenAI Codex (v header.
Turn identity: that answer counts only for a conversation whose rollout records a turn, by its turn_id, that was asked the prompt shown above the answer and finished on exactly that answer (item_completed UserMessage + task_complete). No clock is compared, so neither the day nor a time-zone difference between Codex and the server can mislead it.
Answer's own text: a transcript answer that ends in a footer-shaped line falls back to the terminal.
Footer formats: Codex 0.166's dated footers are read; both binaries carry the formats %b %-d at %-I:%M %p and %b %-d, %Y at …. Any impossible clock is not a footer.
7ecac115 Keep the first-exchange reader on its own footer pattern. This comes from Terra's final round. displayedFirstExchange had started sharing the new pattern, so it dropped a dated line from the end of an answer. It uses main's exact pattern again, and a test pins that.
80c19a10 Take no turn whose prompt was never recorded. From the omo review of 0631035d: a turn whose prompt was never recorded counted as asked an empty prompt, so a bare prompt line above an answer was enough to match it. A turn now counts only when its prompt was recorded and equals the one shown. New tests pin that each answer pairs only with its own turn's prompt, and they fail under both mutations the reviewer named: matching the prompt against any turn, and pairing an answer with the first prompt on screen.

7ecac115 touches only the first-exchange reader, which these panes do not go through. 80c19a10 only stops a turn with no recorded prompt from matching. The real recorded screens from both machines still resolve to their own conversation on 80c19a10.
Reviews
Codex Terra 6.1 (fast, xhigh), final round on 0631035d: two HIGHs.
The first-exchange regression is fixed in 7ecac115.
The other is kept as a known limit, with Dori's agreement. An answer whose own last paragraph is a footer-shaped line, with no footer of Codex's drawn, can match another conversation. That needs this pane's own conversation to be missing from the candidates, and another conversation that was asked the identical prompt and finished on the identical answer without that line.
omo-native-code-reviewer on 0631035d: APPROVE (WATCH), no HIGH.
M1 was the same first-exchange issue, fixed in 7ecac115.
M2 (the tests didn't pin turn and prompt pairing) and L1 (a turn with no recorded prompt) are fixed in 80c19a10.
L2 (a stale comment) is fixed.
L3 is left as a safe fallback: multi-paragraph prompts, messages sent while Codex works, and image or paste placeholders show the terminal, as on main.
Validation
bun run check fast on 80c19a10: green (unit 9167 pass, 0 fail, 36 skip in 591 files; typecheck, build, generated types and themes).
Merge-pass review of 80c19a1, each reproduced:
- T1: an answer that ended in its own footer-shaped line, with this
pane's rollout in another folder, could pick a conversation asked the
same prompt that finished on the text above that line. A footer is now
no footer when any candidate, or one of the store's 32 most recent
conversations of other folders, finished its answer on that line.
- T2: prompts and answers were compared with whitespace deleted, so
"stone bridge" was "stonebridge". The footer path now collapses runs of
whitespace instead, and drops only the emphasis and code marks Codex
renders away (* and backticks: an answer with **bold** is still found,
and base_value is not basevalue).
- T3: a footer counted above a message sent since, with Codex working.
Only Codex's composer, waiting, may follow it, with nothing below but
Codex's own indented status lines (not a shell prompt or Codex's exit
line, a screen a new Codex has not drawn over yet; omo review).
Pushed one commit, with no force push. Each finding below was reproduced on 80c19a10 and now has a test that fails there:
Finding

terminal
Exited Codex: the screen an exited Codex left, before the next one draws (omo review of #2420's combination)

terminal
What the footer path does now:
T1: a footer-shaped line counts as the answer's own text when any candidate, or any of the store's 32 most recent conversations in other folders, finished its answer on that line. The other-folder list excludes this folder in the query itself, so this folder's own conversations cannot crowd the pane's conversation out of the 32.
T2: prompts are compared with runs of whitespace collapsed to one space, not deleted. Answers are compared the same way, after dropping only the marks Codex renders away: * and backticks. An answer with **bold** is still found, and base_value is not basevalue.
T3: a footer counts only when Codex's composer, waiting, comes next. Below the composer there may be only Codex's own indented status lines. A shell prompt or Codex's exit line disqualifies it.
Real check on f5bcc0b7, plain Codex 0.163.0 in isolated herdr sessions:
macOS (test MacBook Air): its own conversation on both reads; main shows the terminal on both.
Codex Terra 6.1 (fast, xhigh) reviewed the delta and raised four MEDIUMs:
Underscores were erased. Fixed.
The 32-row other-folder list was limited before excluding this folder. Fixed.
A read that ends right after a sent message, before Codex draws its working line, still passes as the composer. The conversation it matches is the pane's own earlier turn, not another conversation.
The 64 KiB tail read of other-folder rollouts can miss an older finish record. The record that matters is the pane's newest, which sits at the end.
The last two are known limits.
Validation:bun run check fast is green on f5bcc0b7 (unit 9167 pass, 0 fail, 36 skip in 591 files, plus typecheck and build). server/codex.test.ts, server/codex-processes.test.ts, server/conversation.test.ts and server/prompt.test.ts pass, and the real recorded screens from both machines resolve to their own conversation.
Merge-pass review of f5bcc0b: the veto window over other folders could
miss the pane's own older rollout (U1), read only finished turns (U2),
and dropping every star and backtick made base*value equal basevalue
(U3); a composer with an indented working row passed as idle (U4).
The other-folder scan and its veto are gone. Codex's footer is read away
only below the composer idle and empty, with nothing under it but
Codex's own status rows (the pattern codex-steering already reads), and
the answer above it counts for one conversation only: the one candidate
of this folder whose last finished turn was asked the prompt shown and
ended on exactly that answer, and only while no other candidate's last
finished turn may be the one shown, read loosely (its prompt unread or
ending in the one shown, its answer's letters and digits those shown), compared with whitespace collapsed and
every other character as written (no Unicode folding). None counts
while a candidate's answer, or a turn it records finished, ends in a
footer-shaped line. Anything else falls back as on main.
Merge-pass round on f5bcc0b7: 54a11c07, the simpler rule
This push is one commit with no force push. It replaces the other-folder scan and veto window with the rule the maintainer approved:
Footer position: Codex's footer counts only directly under the last answer block, with one blank line between.
Idle composer: after the footer comes Codex's composer, idle and empty: › alone or with its placeholder. Below it there may be only Codex's own status rows, the same pattern codex-steering already reads (FOOTER, now exported), at most four.
One owner: that answer counts for one conversation only. It is the one candidate of this folder whose last finished turn, by turn_id with its UserMessage, was asked the prompt shown and ended on exactly that answer. Both are compared with whitespace collapsed and every other character as written: no Unicode folding, and stars and backticks are literal.
Footer-shaped endings: none counts while any candidate's answer, or any turn it records finished, ends in a footer-shaped line.
Fail closed on near-matches: none counts while another candidate's last finished turn may be the one shown, read loosely. That means its prompt was not read or ends in the shown one, and its answer has the same letters and digits. This covers the pane's own conversation with an answer Codex rendered its own way (bold, inline code), with a prompt the tail read cut off, or with a turn steered by a second message.
Otherwise: everything else falls back exactly as on main.
On macOS, a plain Codex pane's own rollout cannot be found through its process or session, which is why the rule is limited to this folder. herdr reports no agent_session, the command line names no thread, and since Codex 0.157 the shared daemon holds every rollout open.

The new test fails on main (the recorded Codex 0.163 screen gives null), on f5bcc0b7 and on the first draft of this commit.
Residual, accepted: the pane's own conversation is not among this folder's candidates, while one candidate here was asked the identical prompt and finished on the identical answer. U1, the pane's own older rollout in another folder, is part of that residual.
Known limits from Terra's final round, with exact repro steps:
A rendered link hides the pane's own conversation.
In one folder, the pane's own Codex conversation finishes a turn whose answer ends in a link such as [guide](/repo/docs/guide.md). Codex renders that on screen as guide (docs/guide.md), dropping repo.
Another conversation in the same folder was asked the identical prompt, and its last answer is literally the rendered text, … guide (docs/guide.md).
With the footer and the idle composer below, matchCodexTranscript returns the other conversation. The loose check compares letters and digits, so repo keeps the pane's own conversation out of it.
An older answer becomes the only match.
The screen shows an earlier substantial answer, a tool call, then the current prompt and its finished answer with the footer.
There are three rollouts: the pane's own, which strictly matches the current turn; a second whose current answer differs only by bold (**native** vs native); and a third that contains the earlier answer.
The second rollout blocks the footer owner, as designed. Main's whole-answer match then finds only the third rollout, through the earlier answer, and returns it. Before this change the first and third both matched, so the result was null.
Rendered Markdown: an answer Codex renders differently from its text (bold, code, lists, links) does not match through the footer, because stars and backticks are literal. Such answers fall back, as they do on main.

Reviews:
Codex Terra 6.1 (fast, xhigh) on the first draft: one HIGH (Unicode folding) and one MEDIUM (finish records not checked for a footer-shaped ending). Both are fixed and tested in 54a11c07.
omo-native-code-reviewer on the first draft: REQUEST_CHANGES with one HIGH, the near-match case in the table, reproduced four ways. It is fixed by the fail-closed rule above, with tests for each repro. The reviewer's 46² case and the dropped prompt-pairing test are added too.
Codex Terra 6.1, final delta round on 54a11c07: two HIGHs. Both need contrived inputs, so with the maintainer's agreement they are documented below as known limits, not patched. The merge pass reproduces them at its gate.
Validation:bun run check fast is green on 54a11c07 (unit 9167 pass, 0 fail, 36 skip in 591 files, 8 at a time, 77.4s, plus typecheck and build). server/codex.test.ts, server/codex-processes.test.ts, server/conversation.test.ts and server/codex-steering.test.ts pass.
Separately: while checking this on macOS I hit #2444. Once no Codex holds its store, Ovis cannot open it read-only, so every Codex pane falls back. That fix is a separate PR.
Merge-pass review of 54a11c0 (K1, reproduced through the real lookup):
the candidates also hold the conversation herdr reports for the pane and
one a title names, which may be of another folder, and either could own
the footer. Only the store's conversations of this folder may own it
now; the others still count against an owner, never for one.
K1 through the real lookup: the candidates also hold the conversation herdr reports for the pane, and one that a title names; either may be of another folder. Only the store's conversations of this folder may own a footer now. Those other candidates still count against an owner, never for one.
Test: the new case fails on 54a11c07, where an owner outside this folder's set returns own.
PR body: rewritten to describe the rule as it is now. It no longer mentions the old clock logic. K1 and K2 stay documented as known limits there, pending the owner's decision.
Validation on f3b2bfd3:
bun run check fast: green (unit 9167 pass, 0 fail, 36 skip in 591 files, plus typecheck and build).
server/codex.test.ts, server/codex-processes.test.ts, server/conversation.test.ts and server/codex-steering.test.ts: pass.
The recorded macOS screen still resolves to its own conversation when only this folder's rows may own it.
#2446 changed every store read in server/codex.ts, and this branch conflicted with it in codexTranscriptPath. This push is that merge only, with no other change and no force push.
The conflict: both sides added a declaration at the same spot, and both are kept. folderRollouts is set inside the store read, before settled():
if the store changed during the read, the function returns null, so a partial set never escapes;
if a read of an unchanged store fails, the set stays empty, and then no conversation may own a footer.
Validation on 058c0670:
bun run check fast is green: unit 9211 pass, 0 fail, 40 skip in 596 files, plus typecheck and build.
server/codex.contract.test.ts and server/codex-binding.contract.test.ts: pass.
server/codex.test.ts, server/codex-processes.test.ts, server/conversation.test.ts and server/codex-steering.test.ts: 436 pass.
K1 and K2 are still documented in the PR body, pending the owner's decision.
Merging 058c067 (lane kiro-2420, 0.4.22 hotfix) on the maintainer's OK of the two documented limits K1/K2. Chat now finds a finished Codex answer shown above Codex's completed-turn footer, under design A: only this folder's conversations can own a footer, and only when exactly one candidate's last task_complete equals the block on screen (whitespace collapsed; * and backticks literal) with an idle, empty composer; anything else falls back to the terminal. Review by the merge pass with its own wrong-session fixtures: no HIGH; the delta after the final round is a merge of main whose one conflict (codexTranscriptPath declarations) keeps both #2443's footer rule and #2446's store reads; Codex tests 326 pass on this head. Known limits K1 and K2, as documented in the PR, are accepted by the maintainer and tracked in #2470.
## Release 0.4.22
The release PR, prepared by step 1 of
[docs/development.md#releasing](https://github.com/devswha/ovis/blob/main/docs/development.md#releasing)
on main `41492320` (#2453 the last merge), refreshed to main `99a6671f`
(#2582 the last merge).
**Do not merge yet:** the owner tests main and judges the final build
before release. No tag and no Release run from this PR's author.
- **Version:** `version` is 0.4.22 in `package.json` and
`herdr-plugin.toml`.
- **Changelog:** `bun scripts/changelog-fold.ts 0.4.22` (2026-10-31,
local) folded 20 fragments into the 2026-10-31 section of `CHANGELOG.md`
(23 entries with the hand entry), linked their PRs and deleted the
fragments; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
- `by @login` on every outside contributor's PR link: #2453@jokkopucko,
#2452@jokkopucko, #2442@nahwan-kim, #2463@zerodice0, #2468@Yoonwoo-Ha, #2065@rabbitson87 (both entries), #2466@jpcarranza94,
#2467@jpcarranza94, #2457@YuuuXie, #2420@cheol-95 (both entries),
#2459@Haeminway1, #2450@briantcl1992, #2448@briantcl1992.
- One outside PR had no fragment and got an entry by hand: #2448
(installer test no longer finds the host's Node, Maintenance).
- Issue reporters: #2442's entry credits @Ploppy3, who asked for
herdr-core support in #2439. The other fixed issues were filed by the
PR's own author (#2460@zerodice0, #2464@jpcarranza94, #2419@cheol-95,
#2089@rabbitson87) or the maintainer (#2444), so the PR credit covers
them.
- Two fragments ran past the changelog's width (#2443, #2446); their
entries are re-wrapped, words unchanged.
- Folded after the PR opened (merge of main `653613cb`, by hand per the
release steps): #2474 (Pi Chat message with leading/trailing spaces, a
tab or a trailing `@mention` no longer stuck "waiting for transcript",
Fixed), credited `reported by @BeerBelly69` (he reported issue #2454;
the PR is the maintainer's, so the earlier `by @BeerBelly69` was
corrected in `90536524`). Its fragment is deleted; `changelog.d` holds
only `README.md`. The release summaries are unchanged: their fixed list
is already at five lines.
- Folded in a second refresh (merge of main `98c1f5e0`, by hand): #2475
(a reconnecting or reloading browser gets back its follow-up's lost
"sent" receipt, Fixed), credited `reported by @christso`, who filed
#2421 and proposed the approach. Its fragment is deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`. The release summaries are unchanged (fixed list
already at five lines).
- Folded in a third refresh (merge of main `af20e0a4`, by hand): #2490
(Chat keeps its messages mounted when the pane's skill names load, so a
decoded image no longer drops back to its loading slot, Fixed), credited
`by @nocstah` (outside PR, no linked issue); #2483 (a Copilot turn stays
whole when its pictures pass the page window, Fixed); #2479 (Chat shows
the pictures in a Copilot CLI session, Added); #2482 (Chat shows the
picture attached to a Hermes prompt, Added). #2483, #2479 and #2482 are
maintainer PRs; #2483's issue #2478 is the maintainer's, so no reporter
credit. #2480 (site only) had no fragment. Their fragments are deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The release summaries are
unchanged: the fixed list is already at five lines, and the two new
picture features stay in the changelog only (the new list has room for
them if the owner wants them there).
- Folded in a fourth refresh (merge of main `4ca7d24d`, by hand): #2481
(Grok pictures in Chat), #2477 (svg figures, `reported by @affeek`, who
filed #2441 and co-authored the PR), #2498 (dollar math, `reported by
@kjohnsen`, #2407), #2484 (Expand thinking / Collapse work defaults,
`reported by @altgans and @Ploppy3`, #2346 and #2228) under Added; #2494
(`by @todor-a`), #2491 (`by @nocstah`), #2487, #2486, #2472 (`reported
by @matiemer`, #2462) and #2476 (relay session uses the server's port)
under Fixed. 10 fragments deleted; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
Every entry's credit was re-checked with GraphQL (PR author, closing
issues' authors, commit authors): #2487's #2374, #2486's #2485 and
#2483's #2478 are the maintainer's, so no reporter credit.
- Folded in a fifth refresh (merge of main `f5370d54`, by hand): #2503
(Claude question card steps and Back, `reported and co-authored by
@jpcarranza94`, who filed #2465 and co-authored the fix), #2502 (tab
name from its first message, `reported by @vibewriter-hand`, #2019) and
#2505 (a note on a diff line goes into the next message; #1603 is the
maintainer's, so no credit) under Added; #2506 (OmO, Codex and Hermes
question cards move between questions without answering; it closes no
issue, so no credit) under Fixed. 4 fragments deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`. #2499's hand-written relay entry is kept. All
four PRs are the maintainer's; credits re-checked with GraphQL (PR
author, closing issues' authors, commit authors).
- Sixth refresh (merge of main `feb3ae09`, head `e3b0dc37`): main had no
fragment left to fold. #2504 (the owner's PR, no fragment) gets a hand
entry under Added next to #2499's: the PC side of the relay, which
answers the relay's server proof, `/api/relay` start/stop routes
restricted to the owner and to direct connections, and a relay QR from
`plugin pair`; off by default with no Settings switch yet. No credit
(maintainer PR). It stays out of the release summaries (off by default,
no UI).
- Seventh refresh (merge of main `a683e3ff`, head `7855c73c`): folded
#2509's two fragments by hand, two entries under Added (the phone side
of the relay: the hosted shell that pairs from the PC's relay QR and
opens the app end-to-end encrypted; files and chat images through the
relay) and one under Fixed (the iOS and Android apps no longer show the
hosted shell's home-screen hint). Each says the relay is off by default.
#2499's entry now says Ovis uses the relay only once a PC's relay link
is started. No credit (maintainer PR). The fragments are deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The relay stays out of the release
summaries.
- Eighth refresh (merge of main `0b215abf`, head `f76f3ae4`): folded
#2514's three fragments by hand under Fixed (relay connection limits and
the 30 s wait for an absent PC, proof of the PC's relay key, the hosted
shell's copy-on-select and relay-control requests) and added a hand
entry for #2514 under Added: remote access through the Ovis relay can be
turned on in **Settings → Phone & devices** (off by default), with the
iOS and Android apps opening a relay-paired PC from its link;
app.ovis.sh is deployed separately. #2499, #2504 and #2509's entries no
longer say there is no Settings switch: they now say the relay is turned
on in Settings. No credit (maintainer PR). Also folded #2511 (Claude
task-list scan on file workers, Fixed, `by @duytbp`) and #2518 (feedback
typed on Claude Code's plan card keeps Claude planning, Fixed, `by
@jpcarranza94`, who also reported #2517, so no separate reporter
credit). #2515 is docs only, no fold. 5 fragments deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`.
- Ninth refresh (merge of main `fbb97b62`, head `44048d5f`, fold in the
merge commit): folded 23 fragments by hand: 7 entries under Added
(#2514's rewritten relay-identity entry, which replaces its old Fixed
entry about the PC's relay key; #2519 Letta model pill `by @homebodify`;
#2522 relay bulk window and the relay overview, self-hosting and
hosted-shell attestation; #2524 DeepSeek Harness in the catalog), 3
under Changed (#2533 Connect a phone dialog and the `tailscale serve`
box; #2539 chat pictures shown whole) and 26 under Fixed: #2508; #2512
`by @lifeofpi-ux`; #2516; #2521, #2526, #2531, #2538, #2541, #2543,
#2545, #2547, #2549 and #2551 `by @jpcarranza94`; #2527 `reported by
@duytbp` (#2510); #2532; #2535 `reported by @devtm1123` (#2513). #2532's
#2523 is the maintainer's; @jpcarranza94's issues (#2525, #2537, #2540,
#2542, #2544, #2546, #2548, #2550) are covered by his PR credit. #2529
(perf) is not merged and stays out of 0.4.22. 23 fragments deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
- Tenth refresh (merge of main `afdfb1e0`, head `1cfcfab7`, fold in the
merge commit), on the owner's OK for both: folded #2567 (Connect a phone
shows three choice cards and opens on the relay whenever it is offered,
with the relay's switch on its card on a tailnet; maintainer PR, no
credit) under Changed and #2555 (the New workspace folder picker's
compact row; `by @iwangjie`, no linked issue) under Fixed. 2 fragments
deleted; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The IMPROVED summary line
now says the relay needs no Tailscale, in en, ko, ja and zh.
- Eleventh refresh (merge of main `2b620462`, head `13fa0181`, fold in
the merge commit), on the owner's go for each: folded 13 entries from 12
fragments by hand. Changed: #2562 (a chat starts loading when the press
begins, `by @jpcarranza94`), #2574 (Quote a selection into the message
box), #2578 (the relay's switch, reset and failures only in Connect a
phone). Fixed: #2564 and #2560 (two entries) `by @jpcarranza94`; #2554
`by @iwangjie`; #2577; #2576 (the session-bound conversation cache,
fixing the two HIGHs the post-merge Codex Terra review reproduced in
#2562 and #2545); #2572 `reported by @rkqksk` (#2557); #2570 `reported
by @nathanvale` (#2566); #2571 `reported by @altgans` (#2568); #2575
`reported by @matiemer` (#2558). @jpcarranza94's own issues (#2559,
#2561, #2563) are covered by his PR credit. 12 fragments deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. IMPROVED summary: "Select words in
a Chat reply to quote them into your message." replaces the spacing
line, in en, ko, ja and zh.
- Twelfth refresh (merge of main `64ae5e72`, head `3ae2133e`), on Dori's
go: folded #2580 under Fixed (the Cloudflare relay closes both ends of a
pair after a frame send fails, so they reconnect at once; maintainer PR,
no credit) and deleted its fragment. #2579 (guide only) has no fragment.
Summaries unchanged.
- Thirteenth refresh (merge of main `99a6671f`, head `aebaabbf`), on
Dori's go: folded #2582 under Fixed (`by @iwangjie`: the folder picker's
Show hidden waits for a loading folder; the path bar wraps at very
narrow widths) and deleted its fragment. Summaries unchanged.
- Maintainer PRs without a fragment and without a user-facing change
have no entry: #2436 (relay crypto/mux foundations, not wired yet),
#2445 (CI contract test against a pinned hc).
- **Release summaries:** en, ko, ja and zh each have 8 new, 8 improved
and 8 fixed lines (8 is the most a list the app reads may hold, 90
characters a line). New: remote access through the Ovis relay, turned on
in Settings (off by default), with app.ovis.sh shipping separately
(#2514); pictures in Chat for Copilot, Grok and Hermes (#2479, #2481,
#2482); svg figures (#2477); math with dollar signs (#2498); Portal
sign-in with watch-only visitors (#2065); DeepSeek Harness in Settings →
Agents with its conversations in Chat on Linux (#2524, #2453); tab names
from the first message (#2502); notes on diff lines (#2505). Improved:
Expand thinking / Collapse work defaults (#2484), Chat spacing that
follows the font size (#2491), key bar drag reorder (#2463), same-host
links in an in-app popup on phones (#2459), Claude question cards with
steps and Back (#2503), OmO, Codex and Hermes cards with Back and Next
(#2506), one Connect a phone dialog (#2533), pictures shown whole
(#2539). Fixed: panes again on Safari 16.4–17.3 and iOS 16.4+ (#2535),
Stop with a queued follow-up keeps the stopped message (#2547), a first
message reaches Claude Code (#2526), Codex Chat after a finished answer
(#2443), question cards show at once and stay (#2543), Chat no longer
redraws turns or jumps (#2538, #2545), a setting kept across a quick
reload (#2487), Claude's plan card in narrow panes (#2541). Moved to the
changelog only to fit the 8-line lists: Codex behind Kiro (#2420), Pi
messages with spaces (#2474), the Claude question card between questions
(#2466, #2467, now covered by the question-card line), short-phone
overlap (#2494), cross-tab settings (#2486), the Antigravity note
(#2472), plus the subagent poll perf (#2527), relay transport (#2516),
herdr-core no-watch (#2512) and the other Fixed entries above.
- **Remote bundle:** `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` rises from 40 to 41 because
the bundle inputs (`server/`, `shared/`, `bun.lock`) changed since
remote-v40. After merge: push `remote-v41` on the merged commit and wait
for the Remote PC bundles workflow before running Release.
- **Telemetry:** `telemetry/worker.ts` and `shared/telemetry.ts` are
unchanged since `telemetry/deployed.json`; no Worker deploy.
## Validation
- `bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21`: before the bump it
asked to raise `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` from 40 to 41 and nothing else;
after it, "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order."
- `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel0422 -- bun run check fast` on this
branch: workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build,
unit tests all ok. Unit: 9827 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2474 (head `3de63b49`): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts
--base 653613c` "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order."; `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy
refresh2473 -- bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9827 pass, 0 fail, 41
skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2475 and correcting the #2474 credit (head `90536524`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base 653613c` "Release 0.4.22: remote
bundle, telemetry Worker and release metadata are in order.";
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy refresh2473b -- bun run check fast` all
ok, unit 9851 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2490, #2483, #2479 and #2482 (head `0da3756d`;
`e6eb7df6` removed the fragments and `0da3756d` adds their CHANGELOG
entries, which that commit left out): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts
--base 98c1f5e` "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order."; `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy
refresh2473c -- bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9855 pass, 0 fail, 41
skip in 623 files (with `TMPDIR` off the quota'd `/tmp` tmpfs; an
earlier run with the default `TMPDIR` hit `EDQUOT` there).
- After the fourth refresh (head `af31fa98`): `bun
scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main` both
"Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release metadata
are in order." main still has `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` 40 (no commit
since v0.4.21 touches it) and `remote-v41` is not tagged yet, so this
PR's 41 stays the one raise. `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473 --
bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9973 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 624
files.
- After the fifth refresh (head `b602a998`, merge of main `f5370d54`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473c -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10107 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 631 files.
- After the sixth refresh (head `e3b0dc37`, merge of main `feb3ae09`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473d -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10123 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 632 files.
- After the seventh refresh (head `7855c73c`, merge of main `a683e3ff`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473e -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10314 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 644 files.
- After the eighth refresh (head `f76f3ae4`, merge of main `0b215abf`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." #2514's and #2511's `server/` changes land
before `remote-v41` is tagged, so `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41.
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473g -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10363 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 649 files.
- After the ninth refresh (head `44048d5f`, merge of main `fbb97b62`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41; `remote-v41`
is not tagged yet). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473 -- bun run
check fast` all ok, unit 10511 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 654 files;
`server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts` 52
pass.
- After the tenth refresh (head `1cfcfab7`, merge of main `afdfb1e0`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41; both PRs are
client-only). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473j -- bun run check
fast` all ok, unit 10511 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 654 files;
`server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts` 52
pass.
- After the eleventh refresh (head `13fa0181`, merge of main
`2b620462`): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base
origin/main` both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41;
`remote-v41` is not tagged). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473k --
bun run check fast` all ok, unit 10551 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656
files; `server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts`
52 pass.
- After the twelfth refresh (head `3ae2133e`, merge of main `64ae5e72`):
both release guards "in order" (`--base v0.4.21` and `--base
origin/main`); `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473l -- bun run check
fast` all ok, unit 10553 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656 files;
release-notes tests 52 pass.
- After the thirteenth refresh (head `aebaabbf`, merge of main
`99a6671f`): both release guards "in order" (`--base v0.4.21` and
`--base origin/main`); `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473m -- bun
run check fast` all ok, unit 10553 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656 files;
release-notes tests 52 pass.
- Not run: `bun run check full` (integration and browser), left to CI;
no hands-on test of main, which is the owner's.
This is a release-metadata PR: it changes no code path. Per the release
steps, merge it after CI and the owner's go, then push `remote-v41`,
wait for its bundles, and run Release with `0.4.22`.

Problem
Codex 0.163 and 0.166 draw a completed-turn footer under every finished answer, indented like the answer's own wrapped lines:
Since #2430, an answer ties a pane to its conversation only when it is shown whole in one block, both ends. The footer makes every finished answer's block one line too long, so the whole-block match fails once a turn finishes. Unless another of main's matchers catches the pane, Chat falls back to the terminal. 0.4.21 ships with this. It was reproduced with a plain Codex pane on the test MacBook Air: main showed the terminal on both reads, and this branch showed the pane's own conversation on both.
Change
The footer is taken off only when all of these hold:
›alone, or with its placeholder), and below it there are only Codex's own status rows, at most four. That is the same patterncodex-steeringalready reads (FOOTER, now exported). A turn still under way, a message sent since, a read cut before the composer, or a screen an exited Codex left all fail this check.task_complete, byturn_idwith its UserMessage) was asked the prompt shown and ended on exactly that answer. Prompt and answer are compared with whitespace collapsed and every other character as written. There is no Unicode folding, and stars and backticks stay literal.7:05 PMor19:05, optionally dated as in Codex 0.166 (Oct 29 at 7:05 PM). An impossible clock such as31:05 PM, or any text after the bullet, is not a footer.displayedFirstExchangekeeps main's own footer pattern. On macOS, a plain Codex pane's own rollout cannot be identified through its process or session, which is why ownership is limited to this folder. herdr reports no
agent_session, the command line names no thread, and since Codex 0.157 the shared daemon holds every rollout open.Validation
