feat(server): add the relay link, service and API routes, and print the relay QR from plugin pair - #2504
PR-E #2499 merged the relay's server proof. This PR makes the PC speak it: every PC control and data socket sends proof=1&public_key, answers the per-socket X25519/HMAC challenge, and uses the server_id derived from its key. The shared helper shared/relay-server-proof.ts and the relay (relay/core.ts, relay/bun.ts) are unchanged by this PR. Only a control-socket 4401 naming server key does not match server_id or invalid server key stops the link and reports the error. Proof timeout or an ambiguous 4401, capacity 1013 and local challenge-order 4000 all retry with jittered 1-30 s backoff.
An independent gate review of this proof adaptation returned APPROVE with no blockers:
Forged key refused: a second RelayLink with a different key and the real server_id, run against the real Bun relay, got the permanent 4401 mismatch after one attempt. The real PC kept its slot: it opened a data socket for a new client and got a heartbeat pong without reconnecting.
Bounded retries: timeout, ambiguous 4401, 1013 and 4000 each retried on the backoff schedule (11 attempts in 60 s, a 30 s ceiling), not in a tight loop. A dropped first proof recovered after the relay's real proof timeout.
Proof before keepalive: with challenges held past the 10 s heartbeat deadline, both sockets sent nothing before the challenge, and their first frame was server_proof with a valid route-bound MAC.
Mutation controls (ignoring the permanent stop, or stopping on every 4401) were each caught by the tests. No secret key showed up in URLs, frames or logs.
Summary
PR-F of the e2ee-relay plan (todos 12 and 13): the PC can connect out to the Ovis relay when asked, report the relay's state, mint pairing offers, and plugin pair prints the relay pairing QR while the relay is online.
server/relay/link.ts: an outbound control socket to ${relay}/v1/ws?server_id=..&role=server and one data socket per connecting device. Each data socket is wrapped in the vendored Noise NK daemon channel (protected mode only) and then a RelaySession. Reconnects use a jittered 1-30 s backoff. Data sockets time out after 15 s, and keepalive follows the relay core.
server/relay/service.ts, modelled on PortalService: the opt-in is saved in stateDir/relay/state.json ({enabled}, default false) and resumed at boot. status() returns the new RelayStatus in shared/protocol.ts: phase off|connecting|online|error, relay/app origins, session count, blocked (serve_only / identity_unreadable) and error. Stopping sends GOAWAY {code:"shutdown", drain_ms:0}, closes every virtual WebSocket with 1001 and closes the control socket. When a relay-paired device is revoked, its session closes.
server/relay/routes.ts, wired in server/dispatch.ts / server/index.ts: GET /api/relay plus POST /api/relay/{start,stop,offer,reset-identity}. A full-access /api/health and /api/access also carry relay. site/demo/transport.ts answers the new routes.
server/devices.ts: closeGate(). Turning the relay on in a tokenless, ungated install closes the LAN device gate before any outbound connection. activePairing() lets a relay offer reuse the code already shown in Devices instead of replacing it.
scripts/plugin.tspair: when GET /api/relay is online, it requests POST /api/relay/offer, checks that the offer decodes, and prints the offer link and QR under "Ovis relay". Otherwise it prints one line on how to turn the relay on. The CLI never turns the relay on itself.
refactor(relay): drop minimumMode ...: the shared wrappers from PR-C already force protected and reject the option, so the link and its contract test stop passing it.
Commits (the last one makes the PC speak the relay server proof merged in #2499):
fix(relay): prove PC sockets and retry transient proof refusals
What users see once this lands
The relay is off by default. Nothing connects anywhere until someone calls POST /api/relay/start. With it off, the contract test relay off makes no connection sees zero sockets at the relay.
New HTTP API: GET /api/relay, and POST /api/relay/start|stop|offer|reset-identity. The POSTs require same-origin plus the x-herdr-update header, like Portal. offer and reset-identity are refused (403 local_required) over a relayed session. start answers 409 under OVIS_TAILSCALE_SERVE_ONLY=1.
/api/health (full access) and /api/access gain a relay field.
plugin pair prints one extra line when the relay is off: "To turn on Ovis relay: Settings -> Phone & devices -> Ovis relay." That Settings panel arrives in PR-H, so the hint names a control that does not exist yet.
Turning the relay on in a tokenless install closes open LAN access (the device gate), as intended by GAP-14. The panel that explains this also comes in PR-H.
The default endpoints are wss://relay.ovis.sh / https://app.ovis.sh, overridable with OVIS_RELAY_URL / OVIS_RELAY_APP_URL.
No changelog fragment is included. The integration branch has no fragment for todos 12/13, and there is no UI to turn this on yet. The plan's Commit strategy asks for one in PR-F, so the maintainer can ask for one here, or it can land with the user-facing panel (PR-H) or docs (PR-I).
Security notes
End-to-end: every device byte goes through a Noise NK channel in protected mode, keyed to the PC's relay identity. The device pins server_public_key from the offer, so the relay, or anyone holding a relay slot, cannot read or forge traffic.
Device admission goes through PR-D's device-key auth. Offers can only be minted from a direct (non-relayed) request, and identity reset rotates the key, revokes relay-paired devices and reconnects.
Nothing secret (the identity secret key, pairing codes) is logged. The CLI never enables the relay.
This PR touches authentication and an HTTP contract, so it waits for a real review. If CodeRabbit skips it, a code-review agent's findings go in a PR comment before merge.
Interim gaps until PR-H
Server proof is already required. PR-E supplies the authoritative relay proof and this PR supplies the PC exchange and retry handling; it is no longer deferred to H.
No default Bun relay limits (bc1006a5, a01bde0a, e8fc8397 go to PR-H): this only matters to someone self-hosting the Bun relay adapter from PR-E. It has no default socket/room/per-address caps, so it can be exhausted.
Availability remains bounded by deployment limits. Server proof is present, but the self-hosted Bun defaults and Settings panel still arrive in H. It remains off by default and reachable only through the guarded API.
PR-G adds serverVersion for the skew policy (b6e95b3c) to link/service, and the client side of the relay.
Validation
On head 326f60d3806768ae2fa2dc0f698c1de4a5c494a3 (rebased onto origin/main16bdda5 with no conflicts), with TMPDIR=/var/tmp and inherited FFMPEG unset:
bun install --frozen-lockfile: no changes.
bun run typecheck: exit 0.
bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay shared relay scripts/plugin.test.ts, run once: 656 pass / 0 fail, 6541 expect() calls across 27 files.
timeout 1800 bun run check fast: exit 0. Workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck and build all ok; unit tests 10036 pass / 0 fail / 41 skip in 628 files. report.jsontestedSha = HEAD (326f60d3).
Skipped: bun run check full (it runs in CI as Integration and browser), native Windows/Mac/iOS/Android checks, and manual QA against a deployed relay. The gate review's real-relay probes ran on the pre-rebase head feee83f3. The rebase onto main changed no PR-F code.
Two CodeRabbit findings were fixed, each with a test that fails without its fix:
4e1bb4ffix(server): keep relay controls from Portal visitors: relay mutations are standing access, so a Portal visitor gets 403 owner_only.
f95784bfix(relay): answer a repeated start with 200 while the link retries.
On this head: bun run typecheck exit 0; bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay shared relay scripts/plugin.test.ts once: 657 pass / 0 fail across 27 files; timeout 1800 bun run check fast: exit 0, unit 10037 pass / 0 fail / 41 skip, testedSha = HEAD. Skipped as before: check full locally, native platform checks and live-relay QA.
Add the opt-in protected relay link, persisted lifecycle, guarded pairing and identity reset routes, health/access state, and demo responses. Stop sessions with GOAWAY shutdown and virtual WebSocket 1001 closes.
Mirror the vendor project reference in tsconfig.tools.json so tools use the existing E2EE declaration boundary. This fixes the todo 4 gap exposed by the new server import, without changing vendored code.
Validation: final real-relay link/service tests passed twice (24 tests each); Portal/relay/conventions covering tests passed twice; bun run typecheck passed both projects; curl start and CSRF QA passed. The complete requested covering command ran twice with 372 passing and the same four native-agent fixture failures reproduced on the unchanged branch and in its API file alone. No check fast, push, or PR.

…uired
The shared channel wrappers already force protected mode and no longer accept the option, so the relay link and its contract test stop passing it.

Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added relay-based pairing, including a shareable offer URL, matching pairing code, and QR code when the relay is online.
Added relay status and controls to start, stop, and reset relay identity. Relay availability is also reflected in access and health information.
Added reconnect handling for temporary relay connection interruptions.
Bug Fixes
Pairing output remains available when relay support is missing or unavailable; relay errors are reported without preventing pairing.
Closing LAN access now clears pending pairing credentials.
The server now manages relay state, authenticated relay connections, and relay API actions. Health and access responses include relay status. The pairing command can display a relay offer and QR code when the relay is online.
Changes: Relay Service and Pairing
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Relay status and pairing state shared/protocol.ts, server/devices.ts, server/devices.test.ts
The protocol defines relay status. DeviceStore can close the access gate and return an active pairing code without changing its state.
Relay control and data connections server/relay/link.ts, server/relay/link.test.ts, tsconfig.tools.json
RelayLink authenticates control and data connections, manages sessions and reconnects, and closes connections during shutdown. Tests cover refusal handling and retry timing.
Relay service lifecycle and offers server/relay/service.ts, server/relay/service.contract.test.ts
RelayService restores saved state, manages relay connections, creates pairing offers, and resets identity. Contract tests cover service state, pairing, and relayed traffic.
Relay API and server integration shared/protocol.ts, server/relay/routes.ts, server/dispatch.ts, server/index.ts, site/demo/transport.ts
The server exposes relay routes and status, and resumes and shuts down the relay service. The demo reports relay as disabled and rejects relay actions as unsupported.
Relay offers in the pairing command scripts/plugin.ts, scripts/plugin.test.ts
The pair command displays a relay offer URL and QR code when the relay is online. Tests cover online, offline, missing, and malformed relay responses.
A Portal visitor with the drive role can create lasting device access through the new relay offer route, bypassing the Portal restriction on standing access. Block relay mutations for Portal visitors before merging. A reconnecting relay also reports a spurious 500 from the start route, which is a minor issue.

Strict auth review by the merge pass at 326f60d (omo code reviewer on Claude with repros against the real Bun relay, plus a Codex Terra pass). Changes requested: three reproduced HIGHs. It is held for 0.4.23 in any case.
HIGH, reproduced:
Portal visitors control the relay. A Portal visitor with drive access gets 403 on /api/devices/pair/start, but /api/relay/offer answers 200 with a live 6-digit code, and start, reset-identity and stop all go through; redeeming that code over the relay gives a permanent drive device. standingAccess covers /api/portal/ and /api/devices/ but not /api/relay/ (server/dispatch.ts:228-236); server/relay/routes.ts:16 only blocks relay peers. Put /api/relay/ behind the owner-only check.
Token clients control the relay.server/relay/routes.ts:19 applies no token restriction, so a token client can start, stop, reset and fetch offers (Terra, reproduced offer access).
Anyone with the server's public key can lock everyone out. It is in every offer and QR. 8 clients that finish the encrypted handshake and never sign in keep all 8 PC data slots (still 8/8 after 10 simulated minutes; a 9th, legitimate client got no answer in 30 s). The 15 s timeout is cancelled once the encrypted channel opens (server/relay/link.ts:191) and nothing times out sign-in after that. Keep a deadline until the client signs in or pairs.
MEDIUM:
A relay-tunnelled drive client can start and stop the relay; the peer check blocks only offer and reset (routes.ts:16, reproduced stop).
An offer is issued while the relay is in error; routes.ts:31 only refuses off (reproduced).
shared/protocol.ts:134 promises a fresh one-time offer, but server/relay/service.ts:126 reuses the pending code.
Control messages from the relay are parsed as unbounded JSON before validation, with no rate limit (link.ts:90); a 64 MB garbage frame briefly added about 130 MB before the link reconnected.
The permanent-4401 check depends on the exact reason text (link.ts:110); use a stable protocol distinction.
plugin pair prints the offer and a still-valid code into terminal scrollback (scripts/plugin.ts:830), which a watch user of that pane can read (the old command already printed the code).
LOW: after a permanent 4401, start does nothing until stop; data sockets never check for a pong (link.ts:172).
Passed: watch devices, the bridge token and CSRF are refused; the relay URL comes only from config or env and must be wss; the server proof is domain-separated and only the explicit key mismatch stops retries (1-30 s backoff); connected/disconnected spam stays capped at 8 sockets; revoke, reset, stop and roles hold; tests 204/0, typecheck clean.
Merge-pass judgement on HIGH 2 (token clients): agreed, it is not a HIGH. On main the access token is already the owner credential: decideAccess ranks it above a device cookie (server/access.ts:251), Portal's owner-only refusal tells visitors to use it (server/dispatch.ts:238), and /api/devices/pair/start (used by plugin pair, scripts/plugin.ts:790) already lets a token client issue pairing codes. A token client controlling the relay grants nothing it cannot already do. Withdrawn as a finding; the other two HIGHs (Portal visitors, and the never-signing-in slot hold) still stand, plus the relay-tunnelled stop MEDIUM. I'll delta-review fix-2504's round with the Portal, tunnelled-client and slot repros.
A relay offer carries a live pairing code, so a drive-role Portal visitor could pair a device that outlives its invite. Relay mutations now count as standing access, like device and Portal changes.
Co-authored-by: sisyphus-dev-ai <sisyphus-dev-ai@users.noreply.github.com>
start() returns the existing link's status, which reads "error" while it waits to reconnect. The route answered 500 for that; 500 is now kept for a start that fails before any link exists.
Co-authored-by: sisyphus-dev-ai <sisyphus-dev-ai@users.noreply.github.com>
A Portal visitor with drive could fetch a live relay pairing code and
start, stop or reset the relay. /api/relay/ now joins the standing-access
routes that answer such a visitor 403 owner_only. A relay-tunnelled client
is refused every relay action, not only offer and reset, and an offer is
refused while the relay is in error. The access token stays the owner
credential, as for device pairing.
…er device
A client that finished the protected handshake and never signed in kept
its PC data slot, so eight of them locked everyone out. The data socket
deadline now runs until the client signs in or pairs, only signed-in
sessions take one of the eight places, and one device key keeps at most
four, its oldest giving way. Control messages are bounded in size and
rate before parsing, and the permanent 4401 reasons are shared constants
of the relay and the PC.
…ontrol rate limit
Review follow-up. A device's oldest session is now the one that signed
in first, not the one whose socket opened first, so a slow sign-in no
longer evicts itself. The control socket keeps its size bound but loses
the message rate limit, which client arrivals and departures alone could
trip to take the link offline. A client whose sign-in or pairing is
being verified at its deadline gets five more seconds, so a saved
pairing is not cut off before its acknowledgment.
Note: CodeRabbit is an incremental review system and does not re-review already reviewed commits. This command is applicable only when automatic reviews are paused.
Delta auth review by the merge pass at f95784b (repros on the real Bun relay):
HIGH 1 fixed:server/dispatch.ts:236 now answers 403 owner_only to a Portal visitor on every relay POST; GET /api/relay and /api/access show no code, key or offer.
HIGH 3 still open, reproduced:server/relay/link.ts:191 is unchanged. After 16 s and after 10 more minutes, 8 of 8 handshake-only clients still held their slots and a 9th client got no answer within 30 s. Keep a deadline after the encrypted channel opens until the client signs in or pairs.
MEDIUM still open, reproduced:server/relay/routes.ts:16 refuses relay-tunnelled clients only for offer and reset; stop and start still answer 200 to them. routes.ts:31 issues an offer in error. service.ts:132 gave two offers the same code.
MEDIUM still open, from the code: unbounded control JSON (link.ts:91), the 4401 decision by reason text (link.ts:110-112), and the code in scrollback (scripts/plugin.ts:830).
LOW:routes.ts:25 now answers 200 to a start in error while the link retries (intended, tested); open-access.test.ts:344 leaves /api/relay/start out of its loop.
No regression: typecheck clean; relay, devices, dispatch, open-access, device-access and plugin tests 251/0. HIGH 2 (token clients) stays withdrawn: the token is the owner credential.
Fixes for the strict auth review, merged on top of the owner's 4e1bb4f (HIGH 1: Portal visitors get owner_only on /api/relay) and f95784b (start answers 200 while the link retries). Where we overlapped, the owner's lines are kept. Commits: 5883c8e, 6697e45, f2df1da, e3e2a2d, merge e3686f2.
Item
Fix
Test (server/relay/service.contract.test.ts unless named)
open-access.test.ts "refuses relay controls to a saved-drive visitor…" (owner's)
HIGH 2, token clients
Kept by decision, see below.
none relay-specific; the token path is unchanged
HIGH 3, handshake-only clients hold every slot
The 15 s data-socket deadline now runs until the client signs in or pairs, not until the encrypted channel opens (link.ts). Only signed-in sessions count toward the 8. A pairing still being verified at the deadline gets 5 s more, once.
"closes relay clients that never sign in, so they cannot hold the PC's slots": 8 squatters stay open at 14 999 ms, are closed at 15 s, and a 9th client signs in. Also "keeps a signed-in client past the sign-in deadline".
HIGH 3, per-key cap
A device key keeps at most 4 sessions; its oldest by sign-in order gives way.
"keeps at most four relay sessions per device, closing its oldest"
MEDIUM 1, relay-tunnelled start/stop
Every /api/relay POST over the relay answers 403 local_required (routes.ts).
"starts, decodes an offer, pairs…": all four actions are refused to a relay peer.
MEDIUM 2, offer while in error
409 relay_offline
"refuses an offer while the relay is in error"
MEDIUM 3, repeated pairing code
dd8afc8 reuses the active code on purpose: the code Devices shows and the relay QR stay the same one-time code. The contract in shared/protocol.ts said "a fresh one-time offer"; it now says the offer carries the active one-time code, else a new one.
"reuses the active device pairing code for the relay offer"; "does not reuse an expired or exhausted pairing code"
MEDIUM 4, unbounded control JSON
Control messages over 4096 characters close the link before JSON.parse. No rate limit, on purpose: client connects and disconnects alone could trip one and take the link offline (Terra).
link.test.ts "drops and reconnects a control socket that sends an oversized message after the proof"
MEDIUM 5, 4401 reason text
Both permanent reasons are shared constants in shared/relay-server-proof.ts, used by relay/core.ts and the PC.
link.test.ts: the permanent/transient refusal table
MEDIUM 6, plugin pair scrollback
Unchanged. The pair command already printed this same code before this PR; the offer adds only public data.
none
HIGH 2 decision. The access token is the owner credential:
decideAccess ranks it above a device cookie.
Portal's owner_only message says "use the access token".
/api/devices/pair/start and plugin pair rely on it.
So token clients keep the relay routes; Portal visitors and relay-tunnelled clients are refused.
Failing first. Each new test above fails on 326f60d: 200 instead of 403, 200 instead of 409, or the slot tests timing out. The one exception is "keeps a signed-in client past the sign-in deadline", a regression guard: it fails if sign-in stops cancelling the new deadline.
Validation.
bun test server/relay relay server/open-access.test.ts: 567 pass, 0 fail.
bun run check fast on the merged head e3686f2: exit 0 (10038 unit pass, 0 fail, 41 skip; typecheck, build and generated files ok).
Reviews: the omo reviewer approved. Terra's two MAJORs (the control rate limit, and per-device eviction by socket order) are fixed in f2df1da.
Still open, for the merge pass to judge
Reconnect churn. A client that keeps reconnecting about 32 times a minute (two addresses under the relay's 30-per-minute limit) can still keep the 8 slots busy. Each connection is closed within 15 s, but the relay counts a client as answered once its handshake completes. A full fix needs a relay-side change or a much shorter pre-sign-in deadline.
MEDIUM 4, partly. The size bound runs after the frame has been received, so a large frame is still held briefly.
MEDIUM 5, partly. The PC still matches reason text, now shared with the relay, not a dedicated close code.
Delta auth review by the merge pass at e3686f2: approve, no HIGH left (repros on the real Bun relay).
HIGH 3 fixed: 8 handshake-only clients are closed at 15 s and a 9th signs in (server/relay/link.ts:162-170); a slow sign-in finishing at 19 s gets in.
Relay-tunnelled start/stop/offer/reset get 403 local_required (routes.ts:17); an offer in error gets 409 (routes.ts:32-33). Control messages are capped at 4096 bytes before parsing (link.ts:103), so dropping the control rate limit is fine. The reused code is now documented (shared/protocol.ts:135). The feat(relay): add the Ovis relay service and its deploy workflow #2499 proof is unchanged and sound (only the 4401 reasons moved into shared constants).
Eviction stays within one device (link.ts:236-237): the owner's live session survived 7 attacker sessions on 2 devices.
Typecheck clean; relay, devices, dispatch, open-access and plugin tests 321/0.
Reconnect churn (the lane's open question): not a HIGH in my judgement. Keeping all 8 slots busy needs about 32 completed handshakes a minute, the relay already caps one address at 30 connections a minute (#2499), and the attacker needs the server's public key. Follow-up I'd accept: when the slots are full, a new client evicts the oldest session that has not signed in (never a signed-in one), so a phone that signs in within the deadline always gets in whatever the churn rate.
MEDIUM, still open:plugin pair prints the code into terminal scrollback (scripts/plugin.ts:830; it already did before this PR). LOW, reproduced: at 8 sessions a newcomer is refused rather than evicted (link.ts:159,235), so two paired devices can lock out the owner's new sessions, and a device's 5th session at its cap is refused instead of evicting its oldest.
…ned in
The relay refuses a client outright once eight are answered, before the
PC hears of it, so clients reconnecting faster than the sign-in deadline
could keep every place busy. When the eighth place fills, the oldest
data connection whose client has not signed in or paired gives way. A
signed-in session is never evicted.
Closes the reconnect-churn gap left open in the comment above (19d7957).
The relay refuses a client outright once 8 are answered, before the PC hears of it. Clients that reconnect faster than the 15 s sign-in deadline could therefore keep every place busy. Now, when the eighth place fills, the oldest client that has not signed in or paired gives way, so one place is always free for the next arrival. A signed-in session is never evicted. The change is PC-side only, in server/relay/link.ts; the relay is unchanged.
Tests in server/relay/service.contract.test.ts, both run with the PC clock frozen so no deadline can make room instead:
"lets a new client in when every place holds a client that never signed in, evicting the oldest of them";
"never evicts a signed-in session to make room" (4 signed-in sessions, 8 never-signed-in clients, then a new device: all 5 answer).
Both fail without the change.
Validation:
bun run check fast: exit 0 (10038 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip).
bun test server/relay relay server/open-access.test.ts: 569 pass, 0 fail.
Still open: an attacker who opens enough connections to push a real client out before it finishes signing in (about 7 arrivals within one sign-in) can still delay that client. This now takes a high connect rate from many addresses, not about 32 connections a minute.
Merge-pass check of 19d7957 (churn): matches the bound I asked for. When the 8th place fills, the oldest client that has not signed in (insertion order, no deviceId) is dropped from the map and closed; signed-in sessions are never touched (server/relay/link.ts:173-182), and the two frozen-clock tests fail without it. LOW for the merge note: under fast churn a legitimate client still has to sign in before about seven newer unsigned clients arrive, or it becomes the oldest and gives way (at the relay's 30/min per address that is roughly 14 s from one address, less from several). Still held for 0.4.23.
Merging 19d7957 on the owner's go (into 0.4.22): the PC side of the relay (relay link answering the relay's server proof, relay service, /api/relay/* routes, and the relay QR from plugin pair). The relay is off by default; nothing connects until it is started. Strict auth review by the merge pass (omo code reviewer on Claude plus Codex Terra, repros against the real Bun relay, three delta rounds): a Portal visitor and any relay-tunnelled client are refused on every relay POST (403); clients that never sign in are closed at 15 s, and when the 8th place fills the oldest client not signed in gives way (signed-in sessions are never evicted); control frames are capped at 4096 bytes before parsing; an offer is refused in error; the #2499 server proof is unchanged and domain-separated; revoke, roles and shutdown hold. The token-client finding was withdrawn: the access token is the owner credential. Main merged cleanly (only an unrelated shared/protocol.ts addition since the base). MEDIUM noted: plugin pair prints the pairing code into terminal scrollback, as it already did before. LOW: at 8 sessions a newcomer is refused rather than evicting a device's oldest; a slow client must sign in before about seven newer unsigned ones arrive.

# feat(client): reach the PC through the Ovis relay from the hosted
shell
## Summary
PR-G of the e2ee-relay plan (todos 14-19): the browser side of the
relay. A phone pairs from the
PC's relay QR, keeps a non-extractable device key, and opens the full
Ovis app through an
end-to-end encrypted channel via the relay: API calls, terminal sockets,
event streams, files and
media, and push alerts. It also handles a shell and PC on different
versions. Based on main
`feb3ae09c103bc8660f574474de1435429bc3b31` after PR-F #2504 merged; 82
files, below CodeRabbit's 150-file cap.
- **Channel and device key (todo 14).** `src/lib/relay/channel.ts` and
`device.ts`. A per-PC
ECDSA P-256 device key is generated with `extractable: false` and stored
in IndexedDB
(`ovis-relay`). The channel is the vendored Noise NK channel (protected
mode only, pinned to the
offer's `server_public_key`) plus the client mux. An unsafe relay
address (non-`wss:`, extra
path or query) or a malformed `server_id` is refused before any storage
or socket is touched.
- **Relay transport (todo 15).** `src/lib/relay/transport.ts` implements
PR-B's `Transport` seam
over the mux: `fetch`, WebSockets (`bufferedAmount` behaves like a
browser's after close), event
streams, and a reconnect with backoff, online and visibility wake-ups.
Errors that cannot change
(revoked, unpaired, protocol) stop the retries. When every stream slot
is busy, requests wait in
a queue instead of failing (ce8dc23; limits in
`docs/relay-mux-limits.md`).
- **Hosted shell (todo 16).** `bun run build:shell` (Vite `--mode
shell`) builds `dist-shell/`
with its own `_headers`/`_redirects` and CSP (`scripts/shell-build.ts`,
`scripts/pages-static.ts`). `src/lib/relay/shell.tsx` and
`components/RelayShell.tsx` cover
pairing from `#offer`, one scope per PC (`/s/<server_id>/`), and these
states: connecting,
relay unreachable, PC offline, PC unresponsive, code expired, revoked,
identity changed, bad
offer, needs update. Settings in the shell can forget a saved PC.
- **Files and media (todo 17).** A service worker proxies resources
inside each PC's scope
(`public/sw.js`, `src/lib/relay/resources.ts`), and `useResourceUrl`
gains abort on unmount.
Clients without a service worker use blobs (up to 64 MiB).
`RelayRenderedPage` shows rendered
HTML isolated from the app.
- **Push (todo 18).** Each PC scope has its own subscription, registered
over the relay. A
subscription that the browser replaces while no window is open is kept
by the worker and
registered once on the next start.
- **Version skew (todo 19).** `src/lib/relay/skew.ts` is a strict SemVer
policy. A different
`relay_protocol` is a hard stop. A PC below `MIN_SERVER_VERSION` gets
the update screen. A PC
newer than the shell triggers one reload onto the new shell. The PC's
WELCOME now carries
`server_version` and `relay_protocol`
(`server/relay/{link,service,session}.ts`). CI gains a
`relay-skew` job (feeds "Integration and browser").
## What users see
- Once the relay is turned on for a PC (today only through `POST
/api/relay/start` or `plugin
pair`'s hint; **the Settings panel arrives in PR-H**), a phone that
opens the PC's relay pairing
link in a hosted shell pairs and lands in the normal app. Terminals,
files, chat images,
PDFs, videos with seek, and push alerts all work through the relay.
- The shell has to be served from somewhere. CI deploys `app.ovis.sh` in
PR-I, and until then
only a self-hosted `dist-shell/` works.
- Renaming a paired device no longer drops its relay session. An
`auth_changed` refusal counts as
"PC offline, retry" and no longer deletes the saved PC.
- The iOS/Android apps do not show the Safari home-screen hint.
- Changelog fragments: `changelog.d/relay-media.md`,
`changelog.d/relay-native-home-screen-hint.md`.
## Security notes
- **Keys are non-extractable.** The device private key is a WebCrypto
`CryptoKey` created with
`extractable: false`. Script on the shell origin can ask it to sign but
can never read it out.
The PC's identity is pinned from the offer: a changed key gives the
identity-changed screen,
never a silent re-trust.
- **Service worker sandbox (7c2b2bb).** Every relayed file the worker
serves on the shell origin
gets `content-security-policy: sandbox; default-src 'none'; script-src
'none'; ...` plus
`nosniff`. A hostile file from one PC therefore cannot run script on the
origin that holds every
PC's device keys. PDFs drop only the `sandbox` token, because Chrome's
viewer refuses sandboxed
documents. They keep `script-src 'none'` and `nosniff`.
- **Blob allowlist (8fbd566).** Without a service worker, a blob keeps
its type only for
`image/*` (not SVG), `video/*`, `audio/*` and `application/pdf`.
Anything else, SVG included,
becomes `application/octet-stream`, so it downloads instead of rendering
on the shell origin.
- The relay sees ciphertext plus timing and size, the `server_id`, IPs,
public key and admission challenge/answer (PR-E). The shell
sends nothing to a PC except through the channel (shell QA asserts zero
direct requests).
- This PR changes a workflow (`relay-skew`) and an auth-adjacent
contract (WELCOME fields), so it
waits for a real review. If CodeRabbit skips it, a code-review agent's
findings go in a PR
comment.
## Latency trade-off (from todo 27, PR-C)
PR-C widened the bulk window so files move at multiple MB/s through the
relay (50 ms RTT: 0.32
-> 6.36 MB/s). The cost: with zero RTT and a 64 MiB transfer in flight,
terminal echo p95 rises
from 1.25 ms to 26 ms. At a real relay RTT (50 ms) the ratio is 1.02x.
This is where users of this
PR would notice it (typing while a video loads), and it stays below
perceptible typing delay.
## Interim gaps until PR-H
- **Server proof is already present** in E and F. H retains additional
proof QA and adds the Bun default limits and Settings panel.
- **No Settings panel**, so the PC side has no UI to turn the relay on.
- **The relay shell and media browser QA are listed as manual** in
`scripts/ci-browser.test.ts`.
CI cannot run them until PR-H's e2e lane adds `build:shell` and pinned
ffmpeg (a2c02c24,
9f3df5f9, 2ef2706e). The existing "manual list holds only scripts CI
does not run" test makes
PR-H remove these entries.
- `relay-skew` skips with notices until a release tag holds
`server/relay/` (both current
targets, v0.4.21 and v0.4.20, skip). It also skips, with a notice and
exit 0, a tag that holds
`server/relay/` while this checkout has no
`scripts/relay-e2e-regression.ts` (5e656a6). Without
that, a release cut after PR-D merges and before PR-H lands would make
the job throw and turn
the required "Integration and browser" check red on every later PR. Any
other error, including
a failing e2e run, still fails the job. `scripts/relay-skew.test.ts`
covers both paths against
a scratch repository.

## Validation
On `5e656a62c2933e44916a9505ab8c969e4f507c18`, with `TMPDIR=/var/tmp`
and explicit timeouts:
- `timeout 180 bun install --frozen-lockfile`: exit 0, no dependency
changes.
- `timeout 900 bun run typecheck`: exit 0.
- `timeout 900 bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay
shared relay`: 762 pass, 0 fail in 36 files, exit 0. Initial output was
truncated; the successful rerun captured the summary. One intervening
summary-filter command had an invalid grep expression and exited 2; it
is not counted as a test pass.
- Resource gate: passed within its 20-minute bound, with 31 GiB
available and load1 57.67 (`GATE_EXIT=0`).
- `CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-prg timeout 1800 bun run check fast`: exit 0,
run `2804bae4-4ed3-4d08-9459-aa72162c6ded`, status success, verification
verified, source unchanged, `testedSha` == HEAD ==
`5e656a62c2933e44916a9505ab8c969e4f507c18`. Workflow syntax, generated
types/themes, typecheck and build ok; unit 10307 pass / 0 fail / 41 skip
in 644 files. Check dir removed afterwards.
Skipped locally in this publication pass: `bun run check full`,
integration/browser lanes, `build:shell`, standalone shell/media QA,
relay e2e, native Windows/Mac/iOS/Android checks and deployment. The
previous scratch G..I preflight on `19d79577` is historical, not
validation of this rebased head. G keeps shell/media QA manual until H
supplies the proof-aware e2e harness.
LSP cannot initialize because TypeScript 7.0.2 has no `tsserver.js`;
repository typecheck passed. No delegation. CodeRabbit state and CI
results are recorded in the stack handoff after publication; this PR
awaits real review before merge if CodeRabbit skips it.

## Current: rebased onto main after PR-G merged (2026-11-01)
Head: `6f2e5e19fc2eba1d00ea5da50499507fe9e57fc4`; base: `origin/main`
`a683e3ff568f151345d2212bd545e367a5ceb5d9` (PR-G #2509, squash-merged at
2026-11-01T00:13Z).
`git rebase --onto origin/main 3ee50e0 feat/relay-surface` replayed 24
commits without
conflicts. The PR changes 54 files, below the 150-file review cap.
The rebased head and previously verified
`f4f5941f1d9095f7e97746e209f7310d2939a68a`
have the identical tree `222515190368b6ab41f883305ec1ac1b29406afb`;
`git diff --exit-code f4f5941f HEAD` returned 0.
Validation on the new head (2026-11-01, TMPDIR=/var/tmp):
- `timeout 300 bun install --frozen-lockfile`: exit 0, no changes.
- `timeout 300 bun run typecheck`: exit 0.
- `timeout 900 bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay
shared relay scripts/ci-browser.test.ts
scripts/relay-shell-qa-versions.test.ts`:
exit 0, 798 pass / 0 fail, 9528 assertions in 40 files (134.34 s).
- The bounded headroom gate passed with 38 GiB available and load1
56.88; immediately before
fast checks the host had 38 GiB available and load1 53.68.
- First `CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-prh timeout 1800 bun run check fast`:
exit 1, run
`c1898ee1-a85c-498f-b6d4-bc7cc2bb4d85`, testedSha == HEAD, source
unchanged.
Workflow syntax, generated types/themes, typecheck and build passed.
Unit tests: 10339 pass / 3 fail / 41 skip in 648 files. Every failure:
- `src/lib/relay/transport.test.ts`: "loads a real file larger than the
mux session buffer as a
bounded blob", 30000 ms timeout, followed by unhandled `Relay body
failed` /
`MuxStreamError: upstream_lost` during cleanup.
- `scripts/relay-ios-sim.test.ts`: "finishes every step when eamac's
half never reports
WebDriverAgent ready", 30000 ms timeout.
- `server/codex-processes.test.ts`: "weighs another loaded
conversation's answer in any layout
Codex shows it in: a link by its target, a table, an escape decoded",
20000 ms timeout.
The orchestrator independently reproduced this Codex failure on
untouched main `a683e3ff`.
- Each failing file rerun alone once with
`TMPDIR=/var/tmp timeout 600 bun test --timeout 60000 <file>`:
transport 35 pass / 0 fail (49.95 s, failed test itself 1763.92 ms),
Simulator cleanup
2 pass / 0 fail (12.59 s), Codex 137 pass / 0 fail (23.22 s); all exit
0.
- Transport's test and implementation blobs are identical at `3ee50e05`
and this head.
The parallel-run timeouts did not reproduce alone. Host contention is
consistent with the
observations (29 GiB available and load1 120.86 during the first run),
but is not a proven
sole cause; no source or test timeout was changed.
- Second whole `CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-prh timeout 1800 bun run check
fast`: failed under
host load1 100-380 with the same three timeout cases above; each file
passed alone.
No source or timeout was changed.
- Publication check on 2026-11-01:
`TMPDIR=/var/tmp CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-prh3 timeout 1800 bun run check
fast`:
exit 0, run `13379c7a-c547-48ad-a300-65ea003c5122`, status
success/verified,
source unchanged, and `revision.testedSha == HEAD ==
6f2e5e1`.
Workflow syntax, generated types/themes, typecheck and build passed.
Unit tests:
10342 pass / 0 fail / 41 skip in 648 files. Launch headroom was 64 GiB
available
at load1 14.69. No rerun was needed; `/var/tmp/ck-prh3` was removed
after the
receipt was recorded.
Same-tree evidence carried forward from the `f4f5941f` restack below:
- Standalone shell QA twice (`CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-ph3` and
`/var/tmp/ck-ph4`,
`bun run check run bun scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts`): both exit 0,
including forged-link section (g2), with 25 CSP-clean pages.
- Mutation in a scratch worktree: allowing a forged link on re-open made
(g2) fail
waiting for `identity-changed`, exit 1. The mutation was reverted and
scratch removed.
- Full relay e2e:
`FFMPEG=$(bash scripts/ci-ffmpeg.sh) CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pe2e bun run
check run bun scripts/relay-e2e-regression.ts`:
exit 0, `PASS relay media browser QA` and `PASS relay end to end`.
The earlier attempt without FFMPEG failed to find ffmpeg after shell QA
passed.
- `bun run build:shell`: exit 0; i18n plus four convention test files:
80 pass / 0 fail.
- Not rerun after this tree-identical rebase: standalone shell QA,
mutation, full relay e2e,
build:shell, and standalone i18n/convention tests.
- Not run in this publication pass: `check full`, separate
integration/browser lanes,
relay panel regression, native Windows/Mac/iOS/Android, and live relay.
CI and CodeRabbit
run after publication.
- Independent restack gate:
`.omo/evidence/relay-restack-f4f5941f-gate-review.md` approves the
bounded restack.
It independently passed shell QA and relay-panel QA on `f4f5941f`,
verified the
forged-link assertions against PR-G, and reproduced the Codex timeout on
untouched
main `a683e3ff`. Its approval does not certify green fast checks or CI.
PR-G cleanup receipts: `feat-relay-client` was clean at
`2c7227c5e761cfcadcbbaa4d441c3de8e430ff28`;
`git merge-base --is-ancestor 2c7227c3ee50e0` returned 0.
Removing only its named worktree and deleting `feat/relay-client` each
returned 0.
The historical commit hashes and validation sections below describe
earlier restacks.
## Earlier: restacked onto PR-G 3ee50e0 (2026-11-01, historical)
Head: `f4f5941f1d9095f7e97746e209f7310d2939a68a`; base:
`origin/feat/relay-client` `3ee50e05` (PR-G #2509 after the merge pass's
round 2:
`aa834cb0` forged pairing links refused every time, `3ee50e05` boot test
by behaviour). Local only; no push or PR.
Rebased with `git rebase --onto origin/feat/relay-client 2c7227c
feat/relay-surface`: 24 commits.
Conflict: `scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts` at `019e0ad6` (H's
restructure into the exported
`relayShellQa(tree)`, now `3886a6c1`). Resolved by keeping H's structure
and porting aa834cb's QA:
`OTHER_KEY`/`OTHER_ID = deriveServerId(OTHER_KEY)` (a saved PC with a
mismatched key is now refused);
new section (g2): a forged link (this PC's id, another key) gets
identity-changed in its own words
("This link is not Desk PC's"), no Pair, no Forget, 0 sockets, nothing
saved; pasted again into the
open tab, the same; with the PC's own key saved, refused and that key
untouched; a forged saved key
warns on the PC's scope with 0 sockets and Forget removes it; (j) picks
the Laptop row by text, since
the list is in IndexedDB key order. aa834cb's (d) pairing-socket wait
was already in H's (d). Every
earlier merge-pass assertion (g: Forget only forgets, unreachable-relay
offer minted first) kept.
Gate add-on folded into `3886a6c1` (fixup + autosquash): the header no
longer says the browser lane
runs the script "with no other step"; it runs through
relay-e2e-regression.ts, which calls
`relayShellQa` with its own tree. H's own code (Settings relay group,
reset identity, devices/settings
i18n, DESIGN) touches no phone-side forget/identity-changed/forged
state: no adaptation needed.
Validation on `f4f5941f` (TMPDIR=/var/tmp):
- `bun install --frozen-lockfile`: no changes. `bun run typecheck`: exit
0. `bun run build:shell`: exit 0.
- `timeout 900 bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay
shared relay scripts/ci-browser.test.ts
scripts/relay-shell-qa-versions.test.ts`: 798 pass / 0 fail in 40 files.
- `src/lib/i18n.test.ts` + the four `conventions.test.ts` files: 80 pass
/ 0 fail.
- Shell QA alone twice in a row (`CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-ph3`, then
`ck-ph4`, `bun run check run bun scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts`):
both exit 0, (g2) passed, 25 CSP-clean pages.
- Mutation (scratch worktree): a forged link refused only the first time
(pairable on re-open) ->
shell QA fails in (g2) waiting for `identity-changed` (check exit 1).
Reverted; scratch removed.
- Full relay e2e after the headroom gate (42 GB available, load1 28.8):
`FFMPEG=$(bash scripts/ci-ffmpeg.sh) CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pe2e bun run
check run bun scripts/relay-e2e-regression.ts`: exit 0,
`PASS relay media browser QA`, `PASS relay end to end`. (A first attempt
without FFMPEG stopped at
`Executable not found in $PATH: "ffmpeg"` in the media part, after the
shell QA passed.)
- Skipped: `check full`, relay panel regression, native
Windows/Mac/iOS/Android, live relay. `check fast` ran once on I.

`fb56fc4e`/`683a7211`/`9596600b`; `MIN_SERVER_VERSION` stays 0.4.21. H
keeps the product code
`src/lib/relay/skew.ts` and the hand-run `relay-e2e-regression.ts --skew
<tag>` /
`RELAY_E2E_SERVER_DIR`; comments no longer name `relay-skew.ts`. The
ffmpeg-step test now expects
one "Pinned ffmpeg" step (fixup into `3b04ad32`).
- Shell QA in the browser lane (f6a0593): `relay-shell-browser-qa.ts`
keeps building the shell into
its own temp folder and runs in the lane once, inside
`relay-e2e-regression.ts` (which runs the
shell and media suites after its journey); no second `run_script` line.
The merge pass's fixes are
ported into H's exported `relayShellQa`: the unreachable-relay offer is
minted before the relay
stops, and section (g) checks that Forget only forgets (forgotten
screen, key gone, 0 sockets, no
Pair; a fresh QR pairs).
- fcb657e / f5aee35 / 0b44734 client behaviour is untouched by H; H's
QA passes against it
(forgotten screen; key saved only on AUTH_OK; worker refuses unrequested
file requests and the
media QA's isolation checks still pass in worker and blob mode).
Conflicts: `src/lib/i18n.test.ts` (union of G's files list and H's
RelayPanel entry);
`scripts/ci-browser.sh` (merge pass's shell QA line plus H's media/e2e,
later H's single e2e line);
`scripts/relay-browser-bridge.ts` (same signature; merge pass body, H
doc comment);
`scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts` (fb56fc4e/6e666783: merge pass's
file; 683a7211: H's
restructure with the merge pass's fixes ported; eb55f656: dropped);
`.github/workflows/ci.yml`
(683a7211, 9596600b: relay-skew hunks dropped, H's browser-lane
build:shell and pinned ffmpeg kept);
`scripts/ci-browser.test.ts` (H's manual-list removal).
Validation on `005cc753` (TMPDIR=/var/tmp):
- `bun install --frozen-lockfile`: no changes. `bun run typecheck`: exit
0. `bun run build:shell`: exit 0.
- `timeout 900 bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay
shared relay scripts/ci-browser.test.ts
scripts/relay-shell-qa-versions.test.ts`:
797 pass / 0 fail in 40 files (the first run found the stale
two-ffmpeg-step expectation, fixed above).
- `src/lib/i18n.test.ts` + the four `conventions.test.ts` files: 80 pass
/ 0 fail.
- Shell QA alone, `CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-ph1 bun run check run bun
scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts`:
run `49ef66c3`, exit 0, testedSha == HEAD; every state, push, skew and
24 CSP-clean pages.
- Relay panel browser regression (`checkRelayPanel` from
`scripts/relay-panel-regression.ts` in an
isolated check run, as ui-regression.ts calls it): exit 0, PASS.
- Full relay e2e after the headroom gate (41 GB available, load1 36.7):
`FFMPEG=$(bash scripts/ci-ffmpeg.sh) timeout 1800 bun
scripts/relay-e2e-regression.ts`: exit 0,
`PASS relay media browser QA`, `PASS relay end to end` (log
`pr-h/e2e-005cc753.log`).
- Skipped: `check full`, native Windows/Mac/iOS/Android, live relay
(F3). `check fast` ran once on I.
## Earlier: owner-controls gate fixes (historical)

`55e9c541379f4b5f86304a5a5ba89ca879da24fa`. Local only; no push or PR.
Gate finding 1 is fixed in `0d363b4a`, the fixup/autosquash replacement
for `a26a9c2d`.
The shell-fixture commit `367d3e98` is now `eb55f656`. I was restacked
onto this head and is
`ba8c8307357d3756b6ab0ae639cf5e3ec1365e4e`. G and PR-F's base are
unchanged.
Old H `7ca1749d` was replayed from `cafc2c28` onto new G without Git
conflicts. PR-F's head is `e3686f21`. The owner-only/direct-only
controls, sign-in deadline, per-device cap, sign-in-order eviction and
no control rate limit are retained.
PR-E #2499 (`b0abd589`, proof `c8a4fe8b`) is authoritative. Every PC
control/data socket sends `proof=1&public_key`, answers the per-socket
X25519/HMAC challenge, and uses the key-derived `server_id`. PR-F's
shared proof helper and permanent-refusal constants are retained. Relay
proof expiry stays `4401`; the PC retries timeout/ambiguous `4401`,
capacity `1013` and local challenge-order `4000` with backoff. Only
control `4401` naming `server key does not match server_id` or `invalid
server key` stops retries. Sixteen proofs may wait (oldest displaced);
eight answered clients hold slots and four unanswered clients may wait.
# feat(relay): turn on the Ovis relay from Settings, open its links in
the apps, and prove it end to end
## Summary
PR-H of the e2ee-relay plan (todos 20, 21, 23, 25, 26), plus the relay
fixes held back from PR-E
to PR-G. This is the PR that lets a user turn the relay on. Based on
main `a683e3ff`
after PR-G #2509 merged: 24 commits and 54 files, below CodeRabbit's
150-file cap.
- **Settings relay panel (todo 20, 26).** Settings -> Phone & devices
gets a relay group
(`src/components/RelayPanel.tsx`, `src/lib/useRelay.ts`): a switch that
starts and stops this
PC's link, the state in words (Off, Connecting, Online with how many
phones are connected, Error
with the server's sentence, Blocked by serve-only or an unreadable
identity), the pairing QR with
its countdown and New code, and Reset relay identity behind a confirm.
The QR and the Devices
group share one pending pairing code. A watching device or Portal
visitor sees the state and a disabled switch,
with no offer and no reset. The hosted shell shows no group. Devices
gets a "via relay" pill.
Default Portal watch visitors get `403 read_only`; a saved drive
invitation gets
`403 owner_only` (the watch guard runs first in
`server/dispatch.ts:223-243`).
Every relay mutation requires a direct connection
(`403 local_required` through the relay). The panel follows the same
Portal read-only rule as
its neighboring Portal panel. Beside the disabled switch, it explains
that only the PC's owner
can control the relay using a direct connection, and asks them to open
Ovis on the PC or at its
direct address. English uses the source key; Korean, Japanese and
Chinese are in devices.*.
The browser regression verifies the explanation is visible and nonempty
for Portal visitors,
absent for the direct owner both offline and online, and no owner-only
POST is issued.
`scripts/relay-panel-regression.ts` (in `ui-regression.ts`) checks the
panel against a local Bun
relay and the real hosted shell boot (todo 26).
- **Native links (todo 21).** The iOS and Android apps open a relay
pairing link
(`https://app.ovis.sh/s/<server_id>/#offer=...`), scanned or pasted, as
the WebView's first page.
An offer on another origin, or one naming a different PC than its path,
is refused on the
connect screen. Relay PCs share the shell origin, so the native stores
save each one by scope
URL. Dot segments (plain, encoded or double-encoded), encoded slashes
and backslashes never
match a scope (Android `PCStore.cleanPath` + `PCStoreTest`; iOS
`ScopePath.swift` +
`app/ios/ScopePathCheck`).
- **End-to-end regression (todo 23, 25).**
`scripts/relay-e2e-regression.ts` drives two isolated
PCs, one Bun relay and the real hosted shell across origins: pairing,
terminal I/O, roster,
reconnect without replay, revoke, every shell state, push rotation, and
service-worker and blob
media with isolation. CI's browser lane builds the shell and fetches a
pinned static ffmpeg
(`scripts/ci-ffmpeg.sh`, which fails the lane if the fetch fails, M1).
The relay shell and media
QA leave PR-G's manual list in `scripts/ci-browser.test.ts`.
`scripts/relay-ios-sim.sh` is the
Simulator script (with bounded cleanup). Todo 25 made the blob-mode
media run deterministic.
- **Transport parity.** Every API request of the hosted shell goes
through the relay, including
relay-control requests and the copy-on-select preference.
## What users see
- A PC owner can now turn remote access on in Settings and scan the QR
with a phone, or open the
link in the Ovis iOS/Android app. Before this PR the only ways in were
`POST /api/relay/start`
or `plugin pair`'s hint.
- The hosted shell still has to be served from somewhere. `app.ovis.sh`
and `relay.ovis.sh`
come from CI deploys whose Cloudflare setup the owner has deferred (F3).
Until then only a
self-hosted relay and `dist-shell/` work.
- Changelog fragments: `changelog.d/relay-server-proof.md`,
`relay-bun-limits.md`,
`relay-transport-parity.md`.
## Security notes
- **Authoritative server proof is inherited from E and F.** E supplies
the key-derived ID, per-socket challenge and answered-client slot rules.
F answers the proof and keeps retrying transient refusals. H drops its
duplicate relay implementation and keeps the proof-aware scripted PCs
and forged-proof/concurrent-reconnect coverage. Prerelease random-ID
identities remain refused unchanged until explicitly reset.
- **Self-hosted (Bun) relay limits by default (5c588379, 4324fa9e,
44ecabcb).**
`relay/bun-limits.ts`: 120 connections a minute per address, 600
globally, 1024 sockets, 256
rooms, 4096 tracked addresses. Each limit can be set by flag or env. The
per-address budget fits
file browsing in the media QA (c705aab3). Tests drive the limits with a
test clock.
- **M2 retry semantics moved to F (`feee83f3`).** E keeps expiry/timeout
on `4401`; the PC retries those and ambiguous proof refusals, `1013`
capacity closes and local `4000`. Only a definitive key/server-ID
refusal on the control socket stops reconnecting. H drops the redundant
M2 replay rather than changing E.
- This PR changes authentication (relay admission) and a workflow
(`ci.yml` browser lane), so it
waits for a real review. If CodeRabbit skips it, a code-review agent's
findings go in a PR
comment.
## Throughput and the latency trade-off (todo 27, PR-C)
The bulk window was widened in PR-C. Measured at a 50 ms RTT, relay file
transfer went from 0.32
to 6.36 MB/s (at 100 ms RTT, 0.16 to 3.23 MB/s). The cost: with zero RTT
and a 64 MiB transfer in
flight, terminal echo p95 rises from 1.25 ms to 26 ms (above the
1.5x-of-idle target). At a real
relay RTT of 50 ms the loaded/idle ratio is 1.02x. This PR makes the
relay reachable from the UI,
so this is the first point where users can hit that case (typing while a
large video loads), and
the delay stays below a perceptible typing lag. Evidence:
`.omo/evidence/e2ee-relay/task-27-throughput.md`,
`perf-relay-throughput.md`.
## Historical commit map
The following hashes describe H on the earlier G `55e9c541`, not the
current rebased head.
The old proof commit is reduced to QA and its changelog; M2 is
implemented in F.
The last two commits adapt Settings and the offline QA offer fixture to
PR-F #2504.
Current head, base and validation are recorded at the top.

## Validation
### Owner-controls gate fixes (2026-10-31, current)
All H validation below ran on clean
`eb55f656d431b91456515a95e21744ed2b14163e`
after fixup/autosquash, with explicit timeouts and TMPDIR=/var/tmp.
- `bun run typecheck`: exit 0. `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test --timeout
15000
src/lib/i18n.test.ts src/conventions.test.ts scripts/conventions.test.ts
server/conventions.test.ts`: 61 pass, 0 fail, 137 assertions in four
files, once.
- Direct build and build:shell: exit 0. Vite reports its chunk-size
advisory.
- Extended committed panel regression and four Portal captures: isolated
run
`11fde94f-5f70-47f1-9a66-0349df225767`, exit 0, 11518 ms, source
unchanged.
The owner never gets the restriction explanation. The Portal drive
fixture is Online with
a disabled switch, visible/nonempty explanation, no offer/reset, and no
relay POST.
- `bun test --timeout 15000 src/lib/relay server/relay`: isolated run
`6e1cb4cc-01f5-417a-99e2-56315d193ce6`, exit 0, once: 232 pass, 0 fail,
3855 assertions in 13 files; testedSha matches H and source unchanged.
- Standalone shell QA once, isolated:
`9f406a0a-319e-4153-905c-af02bc307720`,
exit 0, 24368 ms, testedSha matches H and source unchanged. All exact
deadline, pairing,
revoke/rename, push, version-skew and hosted-shell checks pass; 24
CSP-clean pages.
Captures were inspected at 390x1000 and 1440x1000, light/dark. The whole
explanation is
readable beside its disabled control with no clipping or overlap;
direct-owner absence is
covered by the regression. Captures and their temporary driver are
removed after recording
SHA-256 identities:

LSP remains unavailable because TypeScript 7.0.2 supplies no
tsserver.js; the repository
typecheck passed. Browser checks used the Node PTY fallback. Native
platforms, check full,
and full relay e2e were not rerun for this gate fix. Earlier e2e
evidence is historical.
The disposable sessions were stopped by the runner; owned check and
capture scratch is removed.
### PR-F #2504 restack (2026-10-31, historical)
Adaptations: Settings passes `auth.via === "portal"` into RelayPanel's
existing read-only path; comments and DESIGN.md describe every relay
mutation as direct-only. The existing API-error rendering still displays
a refused request's detail. The panel browser regression supplies Portal
auth and an `owner_only` refusal seam and verifies a disabled switch, no
pairing offer/reset and zero relay mutations. The stopped-relay shell
fixture now obtains its offer before stopping the relay, since PR-F
rejects new offers in error with `409 relay_offline`. All normal
fixtures sign in before the new 15-second deadline; the deliberate
unresponsive PC is scripted separately. No deadline or cap bypass was
needed.
Frozen install and typecheck exit 0. Requested relay/CI fixture tests
ran once: 789 pass, 0 fail, 9451 assertions in 40 files, isolated run
`93a2a2f4-ffc6-4c7a-abeb-04748021e838`. Direct-app build and build:shell
exit 0. Panel browser regression plus Portal read-only captures at
390/1440 in light/dark pass (run
`852deb11-e3c1-49c5-996a-2b6bfa5f0c46`); captures were inspected, with
no blank or overlapping relay panel.
Standalone shell QA ran once: run
`ffd72114-6141-4494-8ab6-72974f0e5b19`, exit 0 in 29620 ms. It covers
exact clock boundaries, pairing/revoke/rename, Settings hidden in the
real shell, push rotation and version skew, 24 CSP-clean pages.
Full relay e2e ran once with pinned `FFMPEG=$(bash scripts/ci-ffmpeg.sh)
timeout 1800 bun scripts/relay-e2e-regression.ts`, exit preserved and
printed as `EXIT=0`, inside the isolated check runner. Headroom gate
passed immediately at 44 GiB available, load1 42.79. Run
`5bc07794-3bdb-4f83-a527-278d3d8a74b1`, exit 0 in 73942 ms: `PASS relay
media browser QA` and `PASS relay end to end`. Terminal, roster,
reconnect/no replay, revoke, worker/blob isolation, remote media, PDF
and MP4 seek/Range pass.
The runs verified unchanged source on rebased `a1de10a2` plus the
recorded adaptations, before committing them as `a26a9c2d` and
`367d3e98`; the only subsequent tracked edit was DESIGN.md grammar. A
temporary capture driver was removed. LSP is unavailable (TypeScript
7.0.2 has no tsserver.js); repository typecheck passed. Browser runs
used the Node PTY fallback, not the absent Rust host. Native platform
checks, check full and deployment were not run. Older validation is
historical.
### Deterministic deadline QA (2026-10-31, historical)
The exact 1 ms boundary assertions first appeared in `f8ddd887`;
`88628b54799e1e0022a41777d4b751dc983f5556` owns the frozen-clock harness
at the reported head and is now
`e5b242312d3395b7eeb24a794bd1a0eb633df2f1` after fixup/autosquash. G is
unchanged. I was restacked with `git rebase --onto <new H> <old H>`; its
final head is `7fc6f695d6a114972303c2af9a7ee3d207c38a86`.
Only `scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts` changed: 8 insertions, 1
deletion. Clock-controlled pages install a fixed epoch and pause before
navigation, matching the e2e harness. The offline case consumes the
original pairing socket and unloads the paired app before stopping the
PC, preventing its reconnect from competing with the new visit.
`bridge.next()` and `answeredRelay` now select the offline visit's own
socket and prove its timer is armed before explicit `runFor(PC_ANSWER_MS
- 1)` and `runFor(1)` ticks. Both boundary assertions remain intact.
Production `channel.ts` still arms PC_ANSWER_MS after assignment; its
error maps through `shellState.failureOf` to the shell's pc-offline
screen. No product change.
H's `build:shell` exited 0 and `dist-shell/build.json` names
`7ca1749df291da4a117f4b02ce5b1265601ff9e5`. Five consecutive standalone
runs used `TMPDIR=/var/tmp CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-time-<n> timeout 1800
bun run check run bun scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts`, each with a
fresh isolated herdr session. Every report is success, exitCode 0,
verified, testedSha equal to H, source unchanged, errors empty:
| Run | Run ID | Duration (ms) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | `96a41aac-4f18-44f5-90b3-dca09adb5ecd` | 29387 |
| 2 | `c372f04e-a2ff-469a-bd5c-43241fbd25a1` | 27793 |
| 3 | `ffaa43e4-7d0a-4cb6-8101-45a48c9d17a8` | 29066 |
| 4 | `7806141e-0a53-45d6-94e9-b82a836b20d8` | 37419 |
| 5 | `eb85c78a-4334-4eb9-90a9-8e2c8ad23849` | 32744 |
The batch wrapper's exit-printing assignment had a quoting typo and
exited 2 after all five runs. The QA exit codes above come from the five
complete per-run reports, not that broken printout.
Mutation proof: temporarily change only the product timer arm to
`expect(PC_ANSWER_MS - 1, ...)`, keeping the imported constant and QA
ticks unchanged. Rebuild, then run the same isolated QA in
`/var/tmp/ck-time-mut`: exit 1 at
`scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts:591`, `still connecting 1 ms before
the PC's deadline`, actual 0 versus expected 1. Run ID
`92c3b73f-9ede-4f16-8d86-d981e1a1eb9c`. The mutation was reverted with a
one-line patch, `git diff --exit-code` passed, and the normal shell was
rebuilt before e2e.
H typecheck passed. LSP is unavailable because TypeScript 7.0.2 has no
tsserver.js. Native-platform checks, check full and deployment were not
run.
Full relay e2e passed after the corrected bounded headroom gate: 42 GiB
available and load1 46.44 immediately before launch. Command:
`TMPDIR=/var/tmp CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-time-e2e-gated timeout 1800 bun
run check run bash -c 'FFMPEG=$(bash scripts/ci-ffmpeg.sh) timeout 1800
bun scripts/relay-e2e-regression.ts; result=$?; echo EXIT=$result; exit
"$result"'`. Run `e39e08ca-b8dc-4183-a162-f95532d64d73` is success, exit
0, verified, source unchanged at H; output includes `PASS relay media
browser QA`, `PASS relay end to end`, `EXIT=0`. One earlier full e2e
also passed (run `a1d08945-32b4-4d57-a7eb-e528051a904f`), but its
wrapper misquoted the headroom fields, so it is not counted as the
requested gated run.
I's independent typecheck and fast checks passed on
`7fc6f695d6a114972303c2af9a7ee3d207c38a86`: run
`f52360b3-82cb-411a-a3a6-b9d6652d6b43`, 10260 pass / 0 fail / 41 skip in
645 files. No push, PR or delegation. G and every protected/restored
lane branch were left unchanged. All isolated sessions were torn down by
their successful check-runner cleanup.
### Skew fixture gate follow-up (2026-10-31, historical)
Gate follow-up DO-2/DO-3: `relayShellQaVersions` in
`scripts/relay-shell-qa-versions.ts` is a pure helper used by the
browser QA. It derives the old PC below `min(shellVersion,
MIN_SERVER_VERSION)`, borrowing from minor/major when patch/minor are
zero, and uses that same value in the fake update status. The newer PC
uses `${major}.${minor + 1}.0`, so patch 999999999 remains valid. Both
derived versions are asserted parseable; an unrepresentable 0.0.0 floor
or exhausted minor component fails loudly rather than selecting the
wrong policy branch. The helper is separate from the live QA entry point
so unit imports start no browser, PC or herdr. Product policy and the
2/3/1 load-count assertions are unchanged.
The changes were fixup/autosquashed into the original PR-G skew commit
(`2c7d27e0`, previously `76f5ca23`, now `f5510d72`). H was restacked
with `--onto cafc2c285af87600b8bf90909585a68dd8b93af0 a63cef85`; I with
`--onto 0a592cda35f7d8d5a0f16b6b2fc761be7a1dfb8e 0f7ad2e5`. Only the QA
script and its pure helper/test changed (48 insertions, 6 deletions
versus the previous heads). PR-F's `feat/relay-link` was not touched;
another worker owns that branch.
H: `TMPDIR=/var/tmp CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-sk2-qa timeout 1800 bun run

scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts` exited 0 (run
8f2dfcef-e081-4c73-bdf2-5962cdfa4570, testedSha
0a592cda35f7d8d5a0f16b6b2fc761be7a1dfb8e, source unchanged). Logs show
outdated PC 0.4.20 < MIN 0.4.21; newer PC 0.5.0 > shell 0.4.21 -> one
reload -> app; a manual reload connects without another; same-version PC
enters directly. This is H validation, not a claim that G's manual QA
entry point passes.
Mutation: replaced the newer-PC reload with `enterApp(opened, attempt)`,
rebuilt the shell and ran isolated QA in `/var/tmp/ck-sk2-mut`. It
exited 1 specifically at `scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts:1044`:
expected 2 loads, actual 1 (run 432676e1-ae60-48ee-ae46-1473c79a1f00).
The product edit was reverted, `git diff --exit-code` passed, and the
normal shell was rebuilt before e2e.
Full relay e2e ran once after a bounded foreground headroom gate (44 GiB
available, load1 27.00): `FFMPEG=$(bash scripts/ci-ffmpeg.sh) timeout
1800 bun scripts/relay-e2e-regression.ts`, with exit preserved, inside
the isolated check harness (`TMPDIR=/var/tmp
CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-sk2-e2e`). Exit 0: `PASS relay media browser QA`,
`PASS relay end to end`, `EXIT=0` (run
1685da5f-3c86-4e21-ba7d-d22aacbd2280, testedSha
0a592cda35f7d8d5a0f16b6b2fc761be7a1dfb8e, source unchanged).
LSP cannot initialize (TypeScript 7.0.2 has no tsserver.js); repository
typechecks passed. Native-platform checks, `check full` and deployment
were not run. All commands ran in the foreground with timeouts, without
delegation, push or PR. Earlier validation below is historical.
### Initial skew fixture (2026-10-31, historical; superseded by gate
follow-up)
Original owner: PR-G `2c7d27e04319ae9e017855a5dfbe22e43331f2c0` (blame
and `git log -L`), now `76f5ca23` after fixup/autosquash. The fixture
derives a PC version one patch above the shell instead of assuming
`MIN_SERVER_VERSION` is newer. Product policy and exact load-count
assertions are unchanged. H was rebased onto new G and I onto new H; H's
reindent conflict retained its harness and the fixture fix. The only net
source change on G, H and I is `scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts` (10
insertions, 6 deletions).
On PR-H, `bun run build:shell` and isolated standalone `bun
scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts` passed (exit 0, testedSha
0f7ad2e5c4ca1d6c700e35a9182b01a47c00b546). The fixture reported
`server-newer: 0.4.22 > shell 0.4.21 -> one reload -> app; a manual
reload connects without another`; a same-version PC opened the app
directly. Managed and unmanaged outdated-PC checks also passed.
Mutation proof: temporarily replaced the server-newer reload with
`enterApp(opened, attempt)`, rebuilt the shell and ran the same isolated
QA. It exited 1 at `scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts:1047`: expected 2
page loads, actual 1. The product mutation was reverted, the clean tree
checked, and the normal shell rebuilt before full e2e.
Full e2e ran once after the bounded foreground headroom gate (38 GiB
available, load1 58.57): pinned `FFMPEG=$(bash scripts/ci-ffmpeg.sh)
timeout 1800 bun scripts/relay-e2e-regression.ts` inside `bun run check
run`, with `TMPDIR=/var/tmp CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-skew-e2e`. Exit 0;
`PASS relay media browser QA`, `PASS relay end to end`, `EXIT=0`. This
includes terminal I/O, roster, reconnect without replay, revoke, shell
states/push rotation, worker/blob isolation, remote media and MP4
seek/Range. The report verified source unchanged at
0f7ad2e5c4ca1d6c700e35a9182b01a47c00b546.
LSP cannot initialize because TypeScript 7.0.2 supplies no tsserver.js;
repository typecheck passed. Browser runs used the Node PTY fallback
because the Rust host binary is absent. No full repository check, native
Windows/Mac/iOS/Android check or deployment was run. No push, PR,
delegation or changes to protected/restored lane branches. Earlier
validation below is historical and does not describe the current head.
### Authoritative proof restack (2026-10-31, historical)
On the previous head cd99dfe3: `bun install --frozen-lockfile` made no
changes; `bun run typecheck` exited 0; `bun test --timeout 15000
server/relay src/lib/relay shared relay scripts/ci-browser.test.ts
scripts/relay-skew.test.ts scripts/relay-deploy-workflow.test.ts` passed
once: 773 pass / 0 fail in 39 files. All commands used
`TMPDIR=/var/tmp`, with inherited `FFMPEG` unset.
H's `build:shell` passed. The relay e2e ran once in a fresh isolated
herdr session: exit 1 at `scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts:1043` (2
expected page loads, 1 observed). Core pairing, terminal, roster,
reconnect/no-replay and revoke checks passed first. The skew fixture
assumes MIN_SERVER_VERSION > shellVersion, but both are 0.4.21. One
isolated rerun of the shell QA reproduced the same failure; it remains
unchanged and is not called pre-existing without an untouched-main
reproduction. The media QA skipped by that assertion passed separately
with pinned ffmpeg and isolated herdr.
Fast checks passed at the top of the stack, I
`b893389625b98f56578035efe0d30f8de541a9b8`, not separately on this head.
LSP could not initialize (TypeScript 7.0.2 has no tsserver.js); the
repository typecheck passed. Not run in this restack: check full, native
Windows/Mac/iOS/Android or live deployment. See `proof-reconcile.md` for
conflict resolutions and the e2e finding. Older validation below is
historical only.
### Restack onto PR-D 5cb1417 (2026-10-31, second pass)
PR-D's merge pass added 789fc39 (merge of origin/main) and 5cb1417
(two HIGH auth fixes in `server/relay/virtual-socket.ts` and
`shared/relay-mux-engine.ts`: keys not yet typed when the peer closes
are dropped, and observe is applied before keys still in flight).
Rebased onto PR-G ac431ccf without conflicts. Nothing in this stack
changes either fix: the only stack commit touching those files (PR-G's
"queue relay requests while every stream slot is busy") just adds
`MuxEngine.onStreamAvailable`. `git range-diff` shows all 23 patches
identical.
On HEAD 6bffc8de: `bun install --frozen-lockfile` no changes; `bun run
typecheck` exit 0; `bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay
shared relay scripts/ci-browser.test.ts scripts/relay-skew.test.ts`
once: 741 pass / 0 fail in 39 files; `check fast` ran once at the top of
the stack (PR-I bfff437d). The relay e2e, ui-regression and `check full`
were not rerun. The sections below are from earlier heads.
### Restack (2026-10-31)
Rebased onto PR-G e696302a. Changed commits (`git range-diff` !):
08f79282 keeps main's Portal sign-in pieces (`methodName` import,
`portal` VIA entry, guest-hidden device actions, `SignOutRow`,
`PortalPanel` read-only for Portal visitors, `issuePortalInvite`, Portal
files in the devices i18n part and file comments) next to the relay
panel; 1ac333c2 keeps the Portal auth fields and `/api/portal/invite` in
the demo next to the online relay demo; 861116d7 passes `port:
fixture.app.port` to its new `RelayLink` test (PR-F's required port).
The other 20 commits are unchanged.
On HEAD 083ff0a7: `bun install --frozen-lockfile` no changes; `bun run
typecheck` exit 0; `bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay
shared relay scripts/ci-browser.test.ts scripts/relay-skew.test.ts`
once: 738 pass / 0 fail in 39 files. `check fast` ran once at the top of
the restacked stack (PR-I f334cab7). The relay e2e, ui-regression and
`check full` were not rerun after the restack. The results below are
from before it.
### Before the restack
On HEAD 1cf51b03, in the PR worktree:
- `bun install --frozen-lockfile`: no changes.
- `bun run typecheck`: exit 0. `bun run build:shell`: exit 0.
- `bun test --timeout 15000 src/lib/relay server/relay shared relay
scripts/ci-browser.test.ts scripts/relay-skew.test.ts`,
run twice: 726 pass / 0 fail in 37 files both times.
- `FFMPEG=$(bash scripts/ci-ffmpeg.sh) timeout 1800 bun
scripts/relay-e2e-regression.ts`
(isolated herdr test session): exit 0, `PASS relay media browser QA`,
`PASS relay end to end`.
Run once, after a host headroom check (40 GB available, load1 4.4).
- `CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-ph2 timeout 1800 bun run check fast`: status
success, exit 0,
`testedSha` = 1cf51b03 (HEAD), clean tree. Unit 9768 pass / 0 fail / 36
skip in 615 files;
workflow syntax, generated types/themes, typecheck and build ok.
- Before the rebase (90df23cb, same code apart from the skew test): `bun
scripts/ui-regression.ts`
passed, including the relay panel check (report copied to
`pr-h/ui-regression-pre-rebase.report.json`).
Reports: `.omo/evidence/e2ee-relay/pr-h/` (`e2e.log`,
`check-fast.report.json`,
`ui-regression-pre-rebase.report.json`).
Skipped:
- iOS Simulator on eamac (`scripts/relay-ios-sim.sh`) on this branch.
Earlier evidence:
`task-21-ios.png`, `task-23-ios-sim.log`.
- Android emulator. Earlier evidence: `task-21-android*.png`;
`PCStoreTest` was not run here.
- Live relay (F3): `relay.ovis.sh`/`app.ovis.sh` are not deployed (owner
deferred the Cloudflare
setup, `F3-deferred.md`). Local cross-origin e2e stands in.
- `bun run check full`, and native Windows checks.

…eleases (#2522)
## Current: on main 9792105, with a manual Pages preview (2026-11-01)
Head: `64591240db5be8f40e838919d1d260201029248c`; base: `main`
`97921056d50bb062b045690155967b8714fafb58` (PR-H #2514's squash). 23
commits, 21 files.
Rebased with `git rebase --onto origin/main 183ca0d docs/relay-ship`
with no conflicts. #2514's tree equals 183ca0d's, and
the rebased diff against main is byte-identical to the old diff against
183ca0d.
**Merge order:** this PR lands **before release 0.4.22** (release PR
#2473, held). Cut no release between PR-H (#2514, merged)
and this PR: a release without it ships the relay with no shell deploy
job, and app.ovis.sh stays at 404.
**New commit `6459124` ci(release): deploy a main build of the hosted
shell to a Pages preview on demand.** The owner tests the relay
from a phone without Tailscale before 0.4.22:
- `.github/workflows/shell-preview.yml`, workflow **Shell preview**:
`workflow_dispatch` only. The job `shell-preview` runs only when
`github.repository == 'devswha/ovis' && github.ref ==
'refs/heads/main'`, on `ubuntu-24.04` (GitHub-hosted), with `contents:
read`
(workflow and job) and `environment: production` (url
https://preview.ovis-app.pages.dev/). The owner's approval gates it, and
the
secrets live in that environment. Actions are SHA-pinned as in
release.yml.
- Steps: check out `github.sha`, frozen install, `bun run build:shell`.
It fails if `dist-shell/index.html` or `build.json` is missing,
and it fails naming any unset `CLOUDFLARE_*` secret (only `!= ''`
booleans reach that check). Then
`bunx wrangler@4.156.0 pages deploy dist-shell --project-name ovis-app
--branch preview`, the only step with the secrets in its `env`.
It then polls `https://preview.ovis-app.pages.dev/build.json` until a
2xx whose top-level `revision` is `github.sha`
(12 tries, 20 s timeout each, 5 s apart), or fails.
- `release.yml` is untouched: app.ovis.sh is still deployed only by the
release tag's `shell-deploy` with `--branch main`.
- `scripts/shell-preview-workflow.test.ts` (9 tests) checks the trigger,
the guard, the runner, the permissions, the environment and pinning.
It reads release.yml's production deploy and asserts the preview's
`--branch` is `preview`, never `main` and never that branch. The
project and wrangler version match release.yml, and the URL is
`<branch>.<project>.pages.dev`. The secrets reach only the deploy step,
and the steps run in order with no `if`. It also runs the missing-file
and missing-secret checks and the revision poll against a local server.
- Docs: `docs/development.md#releasing` has the owner steps: **Actions →
Shell preview → Run workflow** on `main`, approve `production`,
open https://preview.ovis-app.pages.dev. Run the PC from the same main
with `OVIS_RELAY_APP_URL=https://preview.ovis-app.pages.dev`,
so its QR codes open the preview (`server/relay/service.ts:50`).
`docs/relay.md` (Operations) gains one line. No changelog fragment (CI
only).
**Validation on `64591240db5be8f40e838919d1d260201029248c`** (each run
once, one at a time through `dori heavy`, `TMPDIR=/var/tmp`):
- `bun install --frozen-lockfile`: no changes. `bun run typecheck`: exit
0.
- `bun run build:shell`: exit 0; `dist-shell/index.html` and
`build.json` exist,
`{"revision":"64591240db5be8f40e838919d1d260201029248c"}`.
- `bun test scripts/shell-deploy-workflow.test.ts
scripts/relay-deploy-workflow.test.ts scripts/changelog-fold.test.ts
scripts/shell-preview-workflow.test.ts scripts/ci-setup.test.ts`: 65
pass / 0 fail.
- Mutations (`SHELL_PREVIEW_WORKFLOW` set to a copy in `/var/tmp`,
removed afterwards), each failing the new test with exit 1:
`--branch main`, `runs-on: self-hosted`, `CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN` moved to
job-level `env`, the job's `if` removed, and only its ref check removed.
Unmutated: 9 pass / 0 fail.
- `timeout 900 bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay
shared relay`: 793 pass / 0 fail in 39 files.
- `CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi18 timeout 1800 bun run check fast`: **exit
1**, run `86cb8abd-cb36-44d0-a210-edffabe03af9`, status failure,
`revision.testedSha == HEAD ==
6459124`. Workflow syntax, generated
types/themes, typecheck and build passed. Unit tests: 10366 pass / 2
fail / 41 skip in 650 files.
The only failures were 2 tests in `server/machine-own-update.test.ts`
(#2047 "stays at its own address ... also after a restart"):
a 4 s state wait timed out at load average ~58. This PR changes nothing
under `server/`. Rerun alone once: 48 pass / 0 fail in 2.3 s.
Check fast was not run again. The check dir was removed.
- Skipped: `check full`, native platform checks, the relay e2e (no
runtime code changes over main), and every wrangler or Cloudflare
command.
The preview workflow cannot run before merge: it runs only on
`refs/heads/main`.
**Owner setup status:** the Pages project `ovis-app` (app.ovis.sh) has
no deployment yet (404). The `production` environment needs
`CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN` and `CLOUDFLARE_ACCOUNT_ID` and its reviewer
before either the preview run or 0.4.22.
## Earlier: fixups squashed, shell deploy hardened, on PR-H 183ca0d
(2026-11-01, historical)
Head: `579a0431f045ea4a7348d0ea7a7c238a7ceca310`; base: PR-H
`origin/feat/relay-surface`
`183ca0d2371319ecd77f3bfe678852e3e73659f3` now, and `origin/main` once
#2514 merges
(`git rebase --onto origin/main 183ca0d docs/relay-ship`). 22 commits,
19 files. Not pushed yet, no PR open.
No `fixup!` commits remain.
**Merge order:** this PR lands **before release 0.4.22** (release PR
#2473, held), so that release's
`shell-deploy` job is the first to put the hosted app live on
app.ovis.sh. Cut no release between PR-H and this PR.
A release cut from main without this PR would ship the relay with no
deploy job, and app.ovis.sh would stay at 404.
**What changed since `3333eed2`:**
- The partial worker's 5 `fixup!` commits were checked against the code
at 183ca0d. The changelog fixup
squashed into its target, `bd451b75`. The other 4 were written against
the tip and conflicted at their old
targets, so they became 3 ordinary commits:
- `1b69fd6c`: a relay start that fails before the link exists shows as
off with **The relay did not start: …**
and **Try again** (`server/relay/service.ts:75-77`,
`src/components/RelayPanel.tsx:36-37,53-62`,
`server/relay/routes.ts:23-24`). It moved out of the guide's step list
and relay.md's intro, into the guide
after step 3 and into relay.md's "Who gets in" section.
- `afb01a29`: the Bun relay caps open sockets at 64 per address
(waiting, connected or still upgrading). A new
socket past the cap gets 429 with `Retry-After: 60`, and open sockets
are never closed for it
(`relay/bun-limits.ts:9-10,37`, `relay/bun.ts:66-69,77`).
- `b5c0a2af`: a client waiting while no PC is connected closes `1013`
after 30 s, keepalives or not, with
"the server is not connected" (`relay/core.ts:54,290,386-395,404-408`).
That deadline survives an eviction
because it is saved with the socket (`relay/core.ts:85`). A PC that
comes back in time resets it to the
full 15 s (`relay/core.ts:305-306`).
- `changelog.d`: one fragment per change. `relay.md` no longer repeats
the Bun limits, and
`relay-bun-limits.md` keeps the merge pass's text unchanged. The
failed-start display needs no fragment:
it is part of the relay feature, which has never been released.
- `579a0431` (was `4ee81446`) ci: hardening of the app.ovis.sh deploy
(below), with `scripts/shell-deploy-workflow.test.ts` and
`docs/development.md#releasing` updated. It carries `Plan:
.omo/plans/e2ee-relay.md`.
A gate review (`.omo/evidence/pr-i-shell-deploy-gate-review.md`) found
two untested gaps, closed by a test-only
fixup squashed into it: `shell-attach` must have no `if`, and
`secrets.CLOUDFLARE_*` may appear only in the deploy
step's `env`. They may not appear in workflow-level `env`, in
`shell-deploy`'s job-level `env`, or in any other
step, except the guard step's `secrets.CLOUDFLARE_* != ''` checks.
**The app.ovis.sh deploy (`.github/workflows/release.yml`):**
- *Trigger:* only the Release workflow (`workflow_dispatch` on
`refs/heads/main`, repository `devswha/ovis`),
after `publish` has created the `vX.Y.Z` tag from a commit that passed
CI. There is no `push` or
`pull_request` trigger, so nothing deploys from a PR or a fork. The job
checks out `refs/tags/vX.Y.Z` and
refuses any commit but the published one, then builds with `bun run
build:shell`. It fails with `::error`
if `dist-shell/index.html` or `dist-shell/build.json` is missing.
- *`shell-deploy`:* `environment: production` (url
https://app.ovis.sh/), so it waits for the maintainer's
approval as a required reviewer. It runs on `ubuntu-24.04`
(GitHub-hosted, as `relay-deploy.yml` does), so
the Cloudflare token never reaches the self-hosted runners. Permissions
are `contents: read`. It packs
`dist-shell.tar.gz` and its SHA-256 into an artifact
(`actions/upload-artifact@cf430e03`), then runs
`bunx wrangler@4.156.0 pages deploy dist-shell --project-name ovis-app
--branch main`. It passes only when
`https://app.ovis.sh/build.json` answers 2xx with the tag's commit as
its top-level `revision`.
- *Secrets:* the `production` environment secrets `CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN`
and `CLOUDFLARE_ACCOUNT_ID`. Only the
deploy step reads them, and no other job names them. Without them the
job passes with a `::notice` naming
what is missing, and app.ovis.sh stays as it is.
- *`shell-attach`:* `needs: shell-deploy`, `contents: write`, no
environment and no secrets. It downloads that
artifact (`actions/download-artifact@9000827c`) and runs `gh release
upload` on the tag. Every action is
pinned by SHA, matching the other workflows.
**Validation on `579a0431`** (test-only fixup; each run once, through
`dori heavy` for check fast, `TMPDIR=/var/tmp`):
- `bun test scripts/shell-deploy-workflow.test.ts` on the real workflow:
14 pass / 0 fail. With
`SHELL_DEPLOY_WORKFLOW` set to a mutated copy in `/var/tmp` (removed
afterwards): `if: always()` on
`shell-attach` fails the attach test (exit 1). Moving
`CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN` to `shell-deploy`'s job-level
`env` fails the new secrets test, plus 2 that read the deploy step (exit
1).
- `bun test` on `shell-deploy-workflow.test.ts`,
`relay-deploy-workflow.test.ts` and `changelog-fold.test.ts`:
37 pass / 0 fail. `bun run typecheck`: exit 0.
- `CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi17 timeout 1800 bun run check fast`: exit 0,
run `21a5b634-4b3d-4fef-944f-f4ff498bafe6`,
status success, `revision.testedSha == HEAD ==
579a0431f045ea4a7348d0ea7a7c238a7ceca310`. Unit tests:
10359 pass / 0 fail / 41 skip in 649 files. The check dir was removed.
Logs: `.omo/evidence/e2ee-relay/pr-i17-qa/`.
**Earlier validation on `4ee81446`** (each run once, one at a time,
through `dori heavy`, `TMPDIR=/var/tmp`):
- `bun install --frozen-lockfile`: no changes.
- `bun run typecheck`: exit 0.
- `bun run build:shell`: exit 0. `dist-shell/index.html` and
`build.json` exist, with `{"revision":"4ee81446…"}`.
- `bun test` on `scripts/conventions.test.ts`, `changelog-fold.test.ts`,
`third-party-notices.test.ts`,
`relay-deploy-workflow.test.ts` and `shell-deploy-workflow.test.ts`: 56
pass / 0 fail.
- `CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi16 timeout 1800 bun run check fast`: exit 0,
run `e53b5412-8f7f-4f79-a876-54f5f5e4db0f`,
status success, verified, `revision.testedSha == HEAD ==
4ee814464016b97ec008dca3cd3c07133e7a78f3`. Workflow
syntax (actionlint), generated types/themes, typecheck and build passed.
Unit tests: 10358 pass / 0 fail /
41 skip in 649 files. The check dir was removed.
- Skipped: `check full`, native platform checks, the relay e2e (this
head changes no runtime code over H), and
every real wrangler or Cloudflare command (no `--dry-run` was needed).
**Owner setup status:** the Pages project `ovis-app` with the custom
domain app.ovis.sh exists, but has no

reviewer must be in place before 0.4.22 runs.

New commit `3333eed2` docs(relay): `docs/relay.md` now says a PC's
`server_id` is worked out from its key,
so a link whose key doesn't give its id is refused every time it's
opened or pasted, before any
connection, saving or removing no key (`forgedOffer`); the screen table

"… has a new identity" also covers a saved key that fails that check,

## Earlier: restacked onto H 005cc753 (2026-11-01, historical)
Head: `2feedc4cbca919ee1274ccf5c3d59ff74b4aa33a`; base:
`005cc753219152bf779dc4e6f7d4324117d64f8b`. Local only; no push or PR.
Rebased with
`git rebase --onto feat/relay-surface eb55f656 docs/relay-ship`: 17
commits, no conflicts.
Docs now match the final PR-G (fixups into the owning commits):
- `docs/relay.md` Versions: no `relay-skew` CI job; the job returns once
a release holds
`server/relay/`, and `relay-e2e-regression.ts --skew <tag>` runs the
check by hand (`41df3355`).
- Screen table: new "This phone forgot …" row; Forget this PC only
forgets, and pairing again needs
a new QR code from the PC (`78ea303a`).
- Admission: the phone saves a new PC's key only on `AUTH_OK`
(`64a246c0`).
- Files: the worker answers only this PC's own app window (403
otherwise) and adds
`frame-ancestors 'self'` / `X-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGIN` (`f4fef9d6`).
Changelog fragments unchanged. The Plan footer stays with this PR (body
below).
Validation on `2feedc4c`: `bun install --frozen-lockfile` no changes;
`bun run typecheck` exit 0;
`CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi13 timeout 1800 bun run check fast`: run
`94097ea5`, exit 0, success,
`testedSha == HEAD == 2feedc4cbca919ee1274ccf5c3d59ff74b4aa33a`;
workflow syntax, generated types/themes, typecheck, build ok;
unit 10353 pass / 0 fail / 41 skip in 649 files. H's checks are in

`eb55f656d431b91456515a95e21744ed2b14163e`. Local only; no push or PR.
Gate finding 2 is fixed in `ba8c8307`: docs/relay.md, docs/guide.md and
SECURITY.md now
state the actual guard order in `server/dispatch.ts:223-243`: default
Portal watch visitors
get `403 read_only` first; even a Portal visitor with a saved drive role
gets `403 owner_only`.
Each document links that source range. All Portal visitors can read
state but cannot mutate
the relay. The guide and relay docs also describe the panel's
explanation and the action:
open Ovis on the PC or at its direct address with the owner's
credentials.
Rebased from old H `367d3e98` onto `eb55f656` without conflicts, using
`rebase.updateRefs=false`. Prior I head `75bb62f2` is now `02395a01` and
the new refusal-order
documentation commit is `ba8c8307`. G and PR-F `e3686f21` are unchanged.
Sign-in deadlines,
session caps, sign-in-order eviction and no control-message rate limit
remain unchanged.
PR-E #2499 (`b0abd589`, proof `c8a4fe8b`) is authoritative. Every PC
control/data socket sends `proof=1&public_key`, answers the per-socket
X25519/HMAC challenge, and uses the key-derived `server_id`. PR-F's
shared proof helper and permanent-refusal constants are retained. Relay
proof expiry stays `4401`; the PC retries timeout/ambiguous `4401`,
capacity `1013` and local challenge-order `4000` with backoff. Only
control `4401` naming `server key does not match server_id` or `invalid
server key` stops retries. Sixteen proofs may wait (oldest displaced);
eight answered clients hold slots and four unanswered clients may wait.
## What ships
The last PR of the e2ee-relay plan (todos 22b, 24 and 28), stacked on
PR-H (`feat/relay-surface`):
- **Hosted shell deploy** (`.github/workflows/release.yml`, jobs
`shell-deploy` and `shell-attach`). After
`publish`, and only in `devswha/ovis` on a release run, it builds
`dist-shell` from the release tag on a
GitHub-hosted runner with `contents: read`. It then deploys it with
`bunx wrangler@4.156.0 pages deploy dist-shell --project-name ovis-app
--branch main` in the `production`
environment and waits until `https://app.ovis.sh/build.json` answers 2xx
with the tag's commit as
its top-level `revision`. Then `shell-attach` (`contents: write`, no
secrets) attaches the
`dist-shell.tar.gz` and `dist-shell.tar.gz.sha256` that were packed to
the release.
`scripts/shell-deploy-workflow.test.ts` covers the guards and the
revision check.
- **Shell preview** (`.github/workflows/shell-preview.yml`, manual, main
only, `production` approval): deploys a main build of the
shell to the Pages branch `preview`
(https://preview.ovis-app.pages.dev), never to app.ovis.sh, so the relay
can be tried from a phone
before a release. `scripts/shell-preview-workflow.test.ts` covers it.
- **Docs**: new `docs/relay.md` (trust model, how a connection is made,
Ovis Mux v1, limits, errors
and close codes, versions, operations), a "Through the Ovis relay"
section, a self-hosting section
and configuration rows in `docs/guide.md`, relay links in
`docs/native-app.md`, the relay
and hosted app in scope in `SECURITY.md` (with the abuse contact for a
`server_id`), the bundled relay
packages in `THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md`, and relay mentions in every
README.
- **Doc fixes for what the stack changed after the docs were written**
(each checked against code;
`.omo/evidence/e2ee-relay/pr-i-claims.md` cites path:line):
- Sixteen PC proofs may wait; a newcomer closes the oldest `1013`.
Expiry and timeout close `4401`, but only definitive control-key
mismatch reasons stop PC retries.
- A pairing tried while the PC has paused relay pairing (20 failures in
10 minutes) ends with
`auth_failed`, and the phone shows "That pairing code no longer works".
- No `relay-skew` CI job until a release holds `server/relay/`; the skew
check runs by hand meanwhile.
- A repeated proxy paragraph is removed.
- The flow-control windows (320 KiB / 1 MiB, 424/408/384/16 KiB, 12
MiB), the HTTP queue (64 requests,
30 s), the Bun defaults (120/600 a minute, 1024 sockets, 256 PCs, 4096
addresses), the key-derived
`server_id` and Reset relay identity are retained. Close codes
4401/1013/4000 are reconciled to E, and answered-client slots/deadlines
are now documented.
- **Changelog**: the six relay fragments in the stack (five `### Fixed`
entries for behaviour that was
never released) become three `### Added` fragments: `relay.md` (the
feature, self-hosting, the
release asset), `relay-server-proof.md` (the key-derived ID, the server
proof and Reset relay
identity) and `relay-bulk-window.md` (the todo-27 window).
The final commit carries `Plan: .omo/plans/e2ee-relay.md`.
## Owner setup required for the deploys
Until this is done, `shell-deploy` (and `relay-deploy.yml` from PR-E)
pass with a notice naming the
missing secrets. The shell tarball is still attached, and app.ovis.sh /
relay.ovis.sh stay as they are
(both answer 525 today). The full list, and the live checks to run after
it, are in
`.omo/evidence/e2ee-relay/F3-deferred.md` (the plan's F3 stays `[~]`):
1. Cloudflare account on the **Workers Paid** plan, with a billing alert
at **$20/month**.
2. GitHub environment **`production`** (maintainer as required reviewer)
holding the secrets
`CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN` (Workers Scripts, Workers Routes/Custom Domains,
Pages: Edit; Account
settings: Read) and `CLOUDFLARE_ACCOUNT_ID`. These are environment
secrets, not repository secrets.
3. Pages project **`ovis-app`** (direct upload, production branch
`main`) with the custom domain
**`app.ovis.sh`**.
4. Custom domain **`relay.ovis.sh`** on the relay Worker
(relay/README.md#deploy).
## Validation
### Owner-controls gate fixes (2026-10-31, current)
H's typecheck, i18n/conventions, relay tests, extended panel browser
regression, four inspected
captures and standalone shell QA pass on final H `eb55f656`; see
pr-h-body.md for receipts.
I adds no runtime changes over H. Earlier validation below is
historical, not a check of this head.
`TMPDIR=/var/tmp CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi12 timeout 1800 bun run check
fast` ran once
on final I, exit 0: run `66188ef1-faca-4fe9-bcf5-0914485ad8c1`, 93224
ms,
success/verified, source unchanged and clean,
`revision.testedSha == HEAD ==
ba8c8307357d3756b6ab0ae639cf5e3ec1365e4e`.
Workflow syntax, generated types/themes, typecheck, build and unit tests
all pass:
10262 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 645 files. No failures or reruns. The
check directory is
removed after recording this receipt. H/I worktrees are clean; temporary
capture driver,
screenshots and owned check roots are removed. No push, PR or
protected-branch changes.
### PR-F #2504 restack (2026-10-31, historical)
On `75bb62f2`, frozen install and typecheck exit 0. Requested relay/CI
fixture suites ran once under `TMPDIR=/var/tmp` in the disposable check
runner: 789 pass, 0 fail, 9451 assertions in 40 files (run
`08f76c20-e2e5-4f17-9672-9315ed003a51`). H's identical runtime passed
the panel browser regression, standalone shell QA and full relay e2e
once; details and run receipts are in pr-h-body.md. Only I's
documentation differs from H's runtime.
`TMPDIR=/var/tmp CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi11 timeout 1800 bun run check
fast` ran once and exited 0: run `73acaede-9839-4e43-8e09-5c300098a641`,
95017 ms, success/verified, source unchanged and clean,
`revision.testedSha == HEAD ==
75bb62f2d725daaa8daf2b193d1de34630987446`. Workflow syntax, generated
types/themes, typecheck, build and unit tests all pass: 10262 pass, 0
fail, 41 skip in 645 files. No unrelated failure needed a rerun. The
check directory is removed after recording these receipts.
LSP cannot initialize because TypeScript 7.0.2 has no tsserver.js;
repository typecheck passed. Native platform checks, check full and
deployment were not run. Older validation is historical.
### Deterministic deadline QA restack (2026-10-31, historical)
H's frozen-clock QA owner `88628b54` became `e5b24231` after
fixup/autosquash; its head is now
`7ca1749df291da4a117f4b02ce5b1265601ff9e5`. I was restacked with `git
rebase --onto <new H> <old H>` and is now
`7fc6f695d6a114972303c2af9a7ee3d207c38a86`. G remains
`cafc2c285af87600b8bf90909585a68dd8b93af0`. I's net source difference
from its previous head is the same QA-only change as H; product behavior
is unchanged.
On final I, `TMPDIR=/var/tmp timeout 1800 bun run typecheck` exited 0.
`TMPDIR=/var/tmp CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi10 timeout 1800 bun run check
fast` ran once and exited 0: run `f52360b3-82cb-411a-a3a6-b9d6652d6b43`,
status success, verification verified, source unchanged, testedSha ==
HEAD == `7fc6f695d6a114972303c2af9a7ee3d207c38a86`. Workflow syntax,
generated types/themes, typecheck, build and unit tests all passed:
10260 pass / 0 fail / 41 skip in 645 files.
H build:shell and five consecutive isolated standalone shell QA runs
passed. A temporary timer armed one millisecond early failed the
preserved connecting assertion, then was reverted and the normal shell
rebuilt. The full relay e2e passed after the corrected numeric headroom
gate (42 GiB available, load1 46.44): run
`e39e08ca-b8dc-4183-a162-f95532d64d73`, exit 0, source unchanged at H,
both media/end-to-end PASS markers and EXIT=0. Individual receipts and
the preliminary wrapper errors are recorded in pr-h-body.md.
LSP is unavailable (TypeScript 7.0.2 has no tsserver.js); repository
typechecks passed. No native-platform checks, check full or deployment.
No push, PR, delegation or protected/restored lane changes. Scratch
check directories, including `/var/tmp/ck-pi10`, are removed after
recording the receipts.
### Skew fixture gate follow-up (2026-10-31, historical)
Gate follow-up DO-2/DO-3: `relayShellQaVersions` in
`scripts/relay-shell-qa-versions.ts` is a pure helper used by the
browser QA. It derives the old PC below `min(shellVersion,
MIN_SERVER_VERSION)`, borrowing from minor/major when patch/minor are
zero, and uses that same value in the fake update status. The newer PC
uses `${major}.${minor + 1}.0`, so patch 999999999 remains valid. Both
derived versions are asserted parseable; an unrepresentable 0.0.0 floor
or exhausted minor component fails loudly rather than selecting the
wrong policy branch. The helper is separate from the live QA entry point
so unit imports start no browser, PC or herdr. Product policy and the
2/3/1 load-count assertions are unchanged.
The changes were fixup/autosquashed into the original PR-G skew commit
(`2c7d27e0`, previously `76f5ca23`, now `f5510d72`). H was restacked
with `--onto cafc2c285af87600b8bf90909585a68dd8b93af0 a63cef85`; I with
`--onto 0a592cda35f7d8d5a0f16b6b2fc761be7a1dfb8e 0f7ad2e5`. Only the QA
script and its pure helper/test changed (48 insertions, 6 deletions
versus the previous heads). PR-F's `feat/relay-link` was not touched;
another worker owns that branch.
I: `TMPDIR=/var/tmp timeout 1800 bun run typecheck` exited 0.
`TMPDIR=/var/tmp CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi9 timeout 1800 bun run check
fast` ran once and exited 0: status success, source unchanged, testedSha
== HEAD == 3fe398145a4f4d0ccbf13d0b43fbfdb500d6d243 (run
5c08d822-2acd-4f0d-9aa3-a788d0092516). Workflow syntax, generated
types/themes, typecheck, build and unit tests passed: 10260 pass / 0
fail / 41 skip in 645 files. H's same runtime code passed the full relay
e2e.
LSP cannot initialize (TypeScript 7.0.2 has no tsserver.js); repository
typechecks passed. Native-platform checks, `check full` and deployment
were not run. All commands ran in the foreground with timeouts, without
delegation, push or PR. Earlier validation below is historical.
### Initial skew fixture (2026-10-31, historical; superseded by gate
follow-up)
Original owner: PR-G `2c7d27e04319ae9e017855a5dfbe22e43331f2c0` (blame
and `git log -L`), now `76f5ca23` after fixup/autosquash. The fixture
derives a PC version one patch above the shell instead of assuming
`MIN_SERVER_VERSION` is newer. Product policy and exact load-count
assertions are unchanged. H was rebased onto new G and I onto new H; H's
reindent conflict retained its harness and the fixture fix. The only net
source change on G, H and I is `scripts/relay-shell-browser-qa.ts` (10
insertions, 6 deletions).
On PR-I, `TMPDIR=/var/tmp timeout 1800 bun run typecheck` passed.
`TMPDIR=/var/tmp CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi8 timeout 1800 bun run check
fast` ran once and exited 0: status success, source unchanged, testedSha
== HEAD == dd41a9a64420cbcfed2ea8ffe8df202b069c592e. Workflow syntax,
generated types/themes, typecheck, build and unit tests all passed:
10250 pass / 0 fail / 41 skip in 644 files. H's same runtime code passed
the complete relay e2e (exit 0).
LSP cannot initialize because TypeScript 7.0.2 supplies no tsserver.js;
repository typecheck passed. Browser runs used the Node PTY fallback
because the Rust host binary is absent. No full repository check, native
Windows/Mac/iOS/Android check or deployment was run. No push, PR,
delegation or changes to protected/restored lane branches. Earlier
validation below is historical and does not describe the current head.
### Authoritative proof restack (2026-10-31, historical)
On the previous head b8933896: `bun install --frozen-lockfile` made no
changes; `bun run typecheck` exited 0; `bun test --timeout 15000
server/relay src/lib/relay shared relay scripts/ci-browser.test.ts
scripts/relay-skew.test.ts scripts/relay-deploy-workflow.test.ts` passed
once: 773 pass / 0 fail in 39 files. All commands used
`TMPDIR=/var/tmp`, with inherited `FFMPEG` unset.
`CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi7 timeout 1800 bun run check fast`: exit 0,
status success, source unchanged, verification verified, testedSha ==
HEAD == b893389625b98f56578035efe0d30f8de541a9b8. Workflow syntax,
generated types/themes, typecheck, build and unit tests passed: 10250
pass / 0 fail / 41 skip in 644 files. The report is
`proof-reconcile-check-fast.json`; scratch was removed. H's same-code
e2e failed at an unrelated shell-skew load-count assertion, reproduced
once alone; separate media QA passed.
Rebased onto PR-H 6bffc8de without conflicts. Nothing in this stack
changes either fix: the only stack commit touching those files (PR-G's
"queue relay requests while every stream slot is busy") just adds
`MuxEngine.onStreamAvailable`. `git range-diff` shows all 14 patches
identical.
On HEAD bfff437d: `bun install --frozen-lockfile` no changes; `bun run
typecheck` exit 0; `bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay
shared relay scripts/ci-browser.test.ts scripts/relay-skew.test.ts`
once: 741 pass / 0 fail in 39 files; `bun run build:shell` exit 0;
`CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi6 timeout 1800 bun run check fast`: exit 0,
status success, `testedSha` = bfff437d (HEAD), clean tree. Unit 10166
pass / 0 fail / 41 skip in 643 files; workflow syntax, generated
types/themes, typecheck and build ok. The link check and actionlint were
not rerun. The sections below are from earlier heads.
### Restack (2026-10-31)
Rebased onto PR-H 083ff0a7. Changed commit (`git range-diff` !):
df6a71e0 merges main's Portal sign-in text with the relay text in
`SECURITY.md` (how the client signed in; the drive-access out-of-scope
bullet stays main's, after the relay metadata bullet) and
`docs/guide.md` (ways in: token, Portal sign-in, relay; the Portal table
row keeps "its own sign-in"; `OVIS_STATE_DIR` names Portal and relay
identities and the Portal sign-in; `OVIS_PORTAL_OIDC_CLIENT_SECRET` row
kept). The other 13 commits are unchanged.
On HEAD f334cab7: `bun install --frozen-lockfile` no changes; `bun run
typecheck` exit 0; `bun test --timeout 15000 server/relay src/lib/relay
shared relay scripts/ci-browser.test.ts scripts/relay-skew.test.ts`
once: 738 pass / 0 fail in 39 files; `bun run build:shell` exit 0;
`CHECK_DIR=/var/tmp/ck-pi5 timeout 1800 bun run check fast`: exit 0,
status success, `testedSha` = f334cab7 (HEAD), clean tree. Unit 10120
pass / 0 fail / 41 skip in 643 files; workflow syntax, generated
types/themes, typecheck and build ok. The link check and actionlint
below were not rerun. The results below are from before the restack.
### Before the restack
At HEAD `09b19938`:
- `bun install --frozen-lockfile`
- `bun test scripts/conventions.test.ts scripts/changelog-fold.test.ts
scripts/third-party-notices.test.ts
scripts/relay-deploy-workflow.test.ts
scripts/shell-deploy-workflow.test.ts`: 51 pass, 0 fail
- Relative link and anchor check over `docs/*.md`, `README*.md` and
`SECURITY.md`: 387 links in 26 files, 0 broken
- `actionlint` 1.7.12 (`-shellcheck=`, as `scripts/check.ts` runs it) on
`release.yml` and `relay-deploy.yml`: exit 0
- `bun run build:shell`: exit 0
- `bun run check fast`: exit 0, 9780 unit tests pass, 0 fail, testedSha
== HEAD
## Skipped
- `bun run check full` was not run. The complete relay e2e passed on H
after the deterministic fixture fix described above.
- A live deploy of the shell and the relay: this waits for the owner
setup above (F3).

## Release 0.4.22
The release PR, prepared by step 1 of
[docs/development.md#releasing](https://github.com/devswha/ovis/blob/main/docs/development.md#releasing)
on main `41492320` (#2453 the last merge), refreshed to main `99a6671f`
(#2582 the last merge).
**Do not merge yet:** the owner tests main and judges the final build
before release. No tag and no Release run from this PR's author.
- **Version:** `version` is 0.4.22 in `package.json` and
`herdr-plugin.toml`.
- **Changelog:** `bun scripts/changelog-fold.ts 0.4.22` (2026-10-31,
local) folded 20 fragments into the 2026-10-31 section of `CHANGELOG.md`
(23 entries with the hand entry), linked their PRs and deleted the
fragments; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
- `by @login` on every outside contributor's PR link: #2453@jokkopucko,
#2452@jokkopucko, #2442@nahwan-kim, #2463@zerodice0, #2468@Yoonwoo-Ha, #2065@rabbitson87 (both entries), #2466@jpcarranza94,
#2467@jpcarranza94, #2457@YuuuXie, #2420@cheol-95 (both entries),
#2459@Haeminway1, #2450@briantcl1992, #2448@briantcl1992.
- One outside PR had no fragment and got an entry by hand: #2448
(installer test no longer finds the host's Node, Maintenance).
- Issue reporters: #2442's entry credits @Ploppy3, who asked for
herdr-core support in #2439. The other fixed issues were filed by the
PR's own author (#2460@zerodice0, #2464@jpcarranza94, #2419@cheol-95,
#2089@rabbitson87) or the maintainer (#2444), so the PR credit covers
them.
- Two fragments ran past the changelog's width (#2443, #2446); their
entries are re-wrapped, words unchanged.
- Folded after the PR opened (merge of main `653613cb`, by hand per the
release steps): #2474 (Pi Chat message with leading/trailing spaces, a
tab or a trailing `@mention` no longer stuck "waiting for transcript",
Fixed), credited `reported by @BeerBelly69` (he reported issue #2454;
the PR is the maintainer's, so the earlier `by @BeerBelly69` was
corrected in `90536524`). Its fragment is deleted; `changelog.d` holds
only `README.md`. The release summaries are unchanged: their fixed list
is already at five lines.
- Folded in a second refresh (merge of main `98c1f5e0`, by hand): #2475
(a reconnecting or reloading browser gets back its follow-up's lost
"sent" receipt, Fixed), credited `reported by @christso`, who filed
#2421 and proposed the approach. Its fragment is deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`. The release summaries are unchanged (fixed list
already at five lines).
- Folded in a third refresh (merge of main `af20e0a4`, by hand): #2490
(Chat keeps its messages mounted when the pane's skill names load, so a
decoded image no longer drops back to its loading slot, Fixed), credited
`by @nocstah` (outside PR, no linked issue); #2483 (a Copilot turn stays
whole when its pictures pass the page window, Fixed); #2479 (Chat shows
the pictures in a Copilot CLI session, Added); #2482 (Chat shows the
picture attached to a Hermes prompt, Added). #2483, #2479 and #2482 are
maintainer PRs; #2483's issue #2478 is the maintainer's, so no reporter
credit. #2480 (site only) had no fragment. Their fragments are deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The release summaries are
unchanged: the fixed list is already at five lines, and the two new
picture features stay in the changelog only (the new list has room for
them if the owner wants them there).
- Folded in a fourth refresh (merge of main `4ca7d24d`, by hand): #2481
(Grok pictures in Chat), #2477 (svg figures, `reported by @affeek`, who
filed #2441 and co-authored the PR), #2498 (dollar math, `reported by
@kjohnsen`, #2407), #2484 (Expand thinking / Collapse work defaults,
`reported by @altgans and @Ploppy3`, #2346 and #2228) under Added; #2494
(`by @todor-a`), #2491 (`by @nocstah`), #2487, #2486, #2472 (`reported
by @matiemer`, #2462) and #2476 (relay session uses the server's port)
under Fixed. 10 fragments deleted; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
Every entry's credit was re-checked with GraphQL (PR author, closing
issues' authors, commit authors): #2487's #2374, #2486's #2485 and
#2483's #2478 are the maintainer's, so no reporter credit.
- Folded in a fifth refresh (merge of main `f5370d54`, by hand): #2503
(Claude question card steps and Back, `reported and co-authored by
@jpcarranza94`, who filed #2465 and co-authored the fix), #2502 (tab
name from its first message, `reported by @vibewriter-hand`, #2019) and
#2505 (a note on a diff line goes into the next message; #1603 is the
maintainer's, so no credit) under Added; #2506 (OmO, Codex and Hermes
question cards move between questions without answering; it closes no
issue, so no credit) under Fixed. 4 fragments deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`. #2499's hand-written relay entry is kept. All
four PRs are the maintainer's; credits re-checked with GraphQL (PR
author, closing issues' authors, commit authors).
- Sixth refresh (merge of main `feb3ae09`, head `e3b0dc37`): main had no
fragment left to fold. #2504 (the owner's PR, no fragment) gets a hand
entry under Added next to #2499's: the PC side of the relay, which
answers the relay's server proof, `/api/relay` start/stop routes
restricted to the owner and to direct connections, and a relay QR from
`plugin pair`; off by default with no Settings switch yet. No credit
(maintainer PR). It stays out of the release summaries (off by default,
no UI).
- Seventh refresh (merge of main `a683e3ff`, head `7855c73c`): folded
#2509's two fragments by hand, two entries under Added (the phone side
of the relay: the hosted shell that pairs from the PC's relay QR and
opens the app end-to-end encrypted; files and chat images through the
relay) and one under Fixed (the iOS and Android apps no longer show the
hosted shell's home-screen hint). Each says the relay is off by default.
#2499's entry now says Ovis uses the relay only once a PC's relay link
is started. No credit (maintainer PR). The fragments are deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The relay stays out of the release
summaries.
- Eighth refresh (merge of main `0b215abf`, head `f76f3ae4`): folded
#2514's three fragments by hand under Fixed (relay connection limits and
the 30 s wait for an absent PC, proof of the PC's relay key, the hosted
shell's copy-on-select and relay-control requests) and added a hand
entry for #2514 under Added: remote access through the Ovis relay can be
turned on in **Settings → Phone & devices** (off by default), with the
iOS and Android apps opening a relay-paired PC from its link;
app.ovis.sh is deployed separately. #2499, #2504 and #2509's entries no
longer say there is no Settings switch: they now say the relay is turned
on in Settings. No credit (maintainer PR). Also folded #2511 (Claude
task-list scan on file workers, Fixed, `by @duytbp`) and #2518 (feedback
typed on Claude Code's plan card keeps Claude planning, Fixed, `by
@jpcarranza94`, who also reported #2517, so no separate reporter
credit). #2515 is docs only, no fold. 5 fragments deleted; `changelog.d`
holds only `README.md`.
- Ninth refresh (merge of main `fbb97b62`, head `44048d5f`, fold in the
merge commit): folded 23 fragments by hand: 7 entries under Added
(#2514's rewritten relay-identity entry, which replaces its old Fixed
entry about the PC's relay key; #2519 Letta model pill `by @homebodify`;
#2522 relay bulk window and the relay overview, self-hosting and
hosted-shell attestation; #2524 DeepSeek Harness in the catalog), 3
under Changed (#2533 Connect a phone dialog and the `tailscale serve`
box; #2539 chat pictures shown whole) and 26 under Fixed: #2508; #2512
`by @lifeofpi-ux`; #2516; #2521, #2526, #2531, #2538, #2541, #2543,
#2545, #2547, #2549 and #2551 `by @jpcarranza94`; #2527 `reported by
@duytbp` (#2510); #2532; #2535 `reported by @devtm1123` (#2513). #2532's
#2523 is the maintainer's; @jpcarranza94's issues (#2525, #2537, #2540,
#2542, #2544, #2546, #2548, #2550) are covered by his PR credit. #2529
(perf) is not merged and stays out of 0.4.22. 23 fragments deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`.
- Tenth refresh (merge of main `afdfb1e0`, head `1cfcfab7`, fold in the
merge commit), on the owner's OK for both: folded #2567 (Connect a phone
shows three choice cards and opens on the relay whenever it is offered,
with the relay's switch on its card on a tailnet; maintainer PR, no
credit) under Changed and #2555 (the New workspace folder picker's
compact row; `by @iwangjie`, no linked issue) under Fixed. 2 fragments
deleted; `changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. The IMPROVED summary line
now says the relay needs no Tailscale, in en, ko, ja and zh.
- Eleventh refresh (merge of main `2b620462`, head `13fa0181`, fold in
the merge commit), on the owner's go for each: folded 13 entries from 12
fragments by hand. Changed: #2562 (a chat starts loading when the press
begins, `by @jpcarranza94`), #2574 (Quote a selection into the message
box), #2578 (the relay's switch, reset and failures only in Connect a
phone). Fixed: #2564 and #2560 (two entries) `by @jpcarranza94`; #2554
`by @iwangjie`; #2577; #2576 (the session-bound conversation cache,
fixing the two HIGHs the post-merge Codex Terra review reproduced in
#2562 and #2545); #2572 `reported by @rkqksk` (#2557); #2570 `reported
by @nathanvale` (#2566); #2571 `reported by @altgans` (#2568); #2575
`reported by @matiemer` (#2558). @jpcarranza94's own issues (#2559,
#2561, #2563) are covered by his PR credit. 12 fragments deleted;
`changelog.d` holds only `README.md`. IMPROVED summary: "Select words in
a Chat reply to quote them into your message." replaces the spacing
line, in en, ko, ja and zh.
- Twelfth refresh (merge of main `64ae5e72`, head `3ae2133e`), on Dori's
go: folded #2580 under Fixed (the Cloudflare relay closes both ends of a
pair after a frame send fails, so they reconnect at once; maintainer PR,
no credit) and deleted its fragment. #2579 (guide only) has no fragment.
Summaries unchanged.
- Thirteenth refresh (merge of main `99a6671f`, head `aebaabbf`), on
Dori's go: folded #2582 under Fixed (`by @iwangjie`: the folder picker's
Show hidden waits for a loading folder; the path bar wraps at very
narrow widths) and deleted its fragment. Summaries unchanged.
- Maintainer PRs without a fragment and without a user-facing change
have no entry: #2436 (relay crypto/mux foundations, not wired yet),
#2445 (CI contract test against a pinned hc).
- **Release summaries:** en, ko, ja and zh each have 8 new, 8 improved
and 8 fixed lines (8 is the most a list the app reads may hold, 90
characters a line). New: remote access through the Ovis relay, turned on
in Settings (off by default), with app.ovis.sh shipping separately
(#2514); pictures in Chat for Copilot, Grok and Hermes (#2479, #2481,
#2482); svg figures (#2477); math with dollar signs (#2498); Portal
sign-in with watch-only visitors (#2065); DeepSeek Harness in Settings →
Agents with its conversations in Chat on Linux (#2524, #2453); tab names
from the first message (#2502); notes on diff lines (#2505). Improved:
Expand thinking / Collapse work defaults (#2484), Chat spacing that
follows the font size (#2491), key bar drag reorder (#2463), same-host
links in an in-app popup on phones (#2459), Claude question cards with
steps and Back (#2503), OmO, Codex and Hermes cards with Back and Next
(#2506), one Connect a phone dialog (#2533), pictures shown whole
(#2539). Fixed: panes again on Safari 16.4–17.3 and iOS 16.4+ (#2535),
Stop with a queued follow-up keeps the stopped message (#2547), a first
message reaches Claude Code (#2526), Codex Chat after a finished answer
(#2443), question cards show at once and stay (#2543), Chat no longer
redraws turns or jumps (#2538, #2545), a setting kept across a quick
reload (#2487), Claude's plan card in narrow panes (#2541). Moved to the
changelog only to fit the 8-line lists: Codex behind Kiro (#2420), Pi
messages with spaces (#2474), the Claude question card between questions
(#2466, #2467, now covered by the question-card line), short-phone
overlap (#2494), cross-tab settings (#2486), the Antigravity note
(#2472), plus the subagent poll perf (#2527), relay transport (#2516),
herdr-core no-watch (#2512) and the other Fixed entries above.
- **Remote bundle:** `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` rises from 40 to 41 because
the bundle inputs (`server/`, `shared/`, `bun.lock`) changed since
remote-v40. After merge: push `remote-v41` on the merged commit and wait
for the Remote PC bundles workflow before running Release.
- **Telemetry:** `telemetry/worker.ts` and `shared/telemetry.ts` are
unchanged since `telemetry/deployed.json`; no Worker deploy.
## Validation
- `bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21`: before the bump it
asked to raise `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` from 40 to 41 and nothing else;
after it, "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order."
- `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel0422 -- bun run check fast` on this
branch: workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build,
unit tests all ok. Unit: 9827 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2474 (head `3de63b49`): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts
--base 653613c` "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order."; `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy
refresh2473 -- bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9827 pass, 0 fail, 41
skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2475 and correcting the #2474 credit (head `90536524`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base 653613c` "Release 0.4.22: remote
bundle, telemetry Worker and release metadata are in order.";
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy refresh2473b -- bun run check fast` all
ok, unit 9851 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 623 files.
- After folding #2490, #2483, #2479 and #2482 (head `0da3756d`;
`e6eb7df6` removed the fragments and `0da3756d` adds their CHANGELOG
entries, which that commit left out): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts
--base 98c1f5e` "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order."; `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy
refresh2473c -- bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9855 pass, 0 fail, 41
skip in 623 files (with `TMPDIR` off the quota'd `/tmp` tmpfs; an
earlier run with the default `TMPDIR` hit `EDQUOT` there).
- After the fourth refresh (head `af31fa98`): `bun
scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main` both
"Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release metadata
are in order." main still has `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` 40 (no commit
since v0.4.21 touches it) and `remote-v41` is not tagged yet, so this
PR's 41 stays the one raise. `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473 --
bun run check fast` all ok, unit 9973 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 624
files.
- After the fifth refresh (head `b602a998`, merge of main `f5370d54`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473c -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10107 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 631 files.
- After the sixth refresh (head `e3b0dc37`, merge of main `feb3ae09`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473d -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10123 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 632 files.
- After the seventh refresh (head `7855c73c`, merge of main `a683e3ff`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41).
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473e -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10314 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 644 files.
- After the eighth refresh (head `f76f3ae4`, merge of main `0b215abf`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." #2514's and #2511's `server/` changes land
before `remote-v41` is tagged, so `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41.
`UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473g -- bun run check fast` all ok,
unit 10363 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 649 files.
- After the ninth refresh (head `44048d5f`, merge of main `fbb97b62`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41; `remote-v41`
is not tagged yet). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473 -- bun run
check fast` all ok, unit 10511 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 654 files;
`server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts` 52
pass.
- After the tenth refresh (head `1cfcfab7`, merge of main `afdfb1e0`):
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base origin/main`
both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and release
metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41; both PRs are
client-only). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473j -- bun run check
fast` all ok, unit 10511 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 654 files;
`server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts` 52
pass.
- After the eleventh refresh (head `13fa0181`, merge of main
`2b620462`): `bun scripts/release-guards.ts --base v0.4.21` and `--base
origin/main` both "Release 0.4.22: remote bundle, telemetry Worker and
release metadata are in order." (`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` stays 41;
`remote-v41` is not tagged). `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473k --
bun run check fast` all ok, unit 10551 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656
files; `server/release-notes.test.ts` and `src/lib/updateNotes.test.ts`
52 pass.
- After the twelfth refresh (head `3ae2133e`, merge of main `64ae5e72`):
both release guards "in order" (`--base v0.4.21` and `--base
origin/main`); `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473l -- bun run check
fast` all ok, unit 10553 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656 files;
release-notes tests 52 pass.
- After the thirteenth refresh (head `aebaabbf`, merge of main
`99a6671f`): both release guards "in order" (`--base v0.4.21` and
`--base origin/main`); `UNIT_TEST_WORKERS=4 dori heavy rel2473m -- bun
run check fast` all ok, unit 10553 pass, 0 fail, 41 skip in 656 files;
release-notes tests 52 pass.
- Not run: `bun run check full` (integration and browser), left to CI;
no hands-on test of main, which is the owner's.
This is a release-metadata PR: it changes no code path. Per the release
steps, merge it after CI and the owner's go, then push `remote-v41`,
wait for its bundles, and run Release with `0.4.22`.

Part of the e2ee-relay stack (PR-F, todos 12 and 13). Base:
main16bdda5, which includes PR-E #2499. Head:f95784bb.The relay is off by default. Nothing connects anywhere until someone calls
POST /api/relay/start. The Settings UI to turn it on arrives in PR-H.PC side of the relay server proof (#2499)
PR-E #2499 merged the relay's server proof. This PR makes the PC speak it: every PC control and data socket sends
proof=1&public_key, answers the per-socket X25519/HMAC challenge, and uses theserver_idderived from its key. The shared helpershared/relay-server-proof.tsand the relay (relay/core.ts,relay/bun.ts) are unchanged by this PR. Only a control-socket 4401 namingserver key does not match server_idorinvalid server keystops the link and reports the error. Proof timeout or an ambiguous 4401, capacity 1013 and local challenge-order 4000 all retry with jittered 1-30 s backoff. An independent gate review of this proof adaptation returned APPROVE with no blockers:
