fix(web): Escape while recording a shortcut no longer closes Settings - #27151
In Settings → Keybindings, pressing Esc while a shortcut field says "Press shortcut" closes the whole Settings page instead of leaving the field. That applies both to editing an existing shortcut and to the "Add keybinding" field. The draft is lost along with Settings.
To reproduce: open Settings → Keybindings, click any shortcut so the field shows "Press shortcut", then press Esc. Settings closes. Expected: the old shortcut comes back, focus returns to it, and Settings stays open.
This started when Settings became a modal in #24847. The recorder calls preventDefault() on Escape, but Base UI's dialog dismissal listens on document and doesn't check defaultPrevented, so the event still closes it.
Change
Both recorder handlers in KeybindingsSettings.tsx now call stopPropagation() on Escape, the way the SnapShot shortcut recorder already does, then reset the draft as before. For an existing shortcut, the field turns back into its shortcut button, and focus moves to that button; otherwise the app's focus recovery would pick the header's close button and open its "Close (Esc)" tooltip. The "Add keybinding" field stays in place, so it just loses focus. Esc outside the field still closes Settings. #25130 fixes the same kind of bug in the theme editor.
Scope and approval
This is a small, focused fix for an obvious bug: Escape in a text field shouldn't close the page around it. It changes no product behaviour beyond that. One file of production code (+24/−3 lines) and one regression test. No prior issue, per the small-obvious-bug exception in CONTRIBUTING.
Verification
New KeybindingsSettings.browser.test.tsx renders the real Keybindings panel inside a Base UI dialog. It presses Esc in both the existing-shortcut field and the new-binding field, and checks that:
the dialog doesn't close;
the field loses focus, and for an existing shortcut, focus moves to its shortcut button;
the draft resets;
a second Esc outside the field still closes the dialog.
vp test run --project browser src/components/settings/KeybindingsSettings.browser.test.tsx: 2/2 pass. With main's KeybindingsSettings.tsx, both cases fail because onOpenChange is called with reason escape-key. Without the focus change, the existing-shortcut case fails on the focus check.
vp run check:changed passes.
Real app (web dev server): after Esc, focus is on the shortcut button, no tooltip shows, and Settings stays open. A second Esc closes Settings.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Escape now cancels shortcut recording without closing Settings, with focus restored or removed from the recording field. The change is limited to local UI behavior and leaves saved bindings and product defaults unchanged.

Walkthrough
Escape during keybinding capture resets the draft and recording state without closing Settings. Existing keybindings restore focus to the shortcut pill when available. New keybindings blur the input. Browser tests cover both flows and subsequent dialog dismissal.
Escape stops propagation and resets capture state. Existing keybindings restore focus to the shortcut pill when available; new keybindings blur the input. Browser tests verify both recorder flows and that a second Escape requests dialog dismissal.
Canceling a shortcut can temporarily leave keyboard focus outside Settings. This is a bounded accessibility concern.

On github/main (6575ce3250), reproduced both failures: Escape in the focused existing-shortcut recorder and the focused Add keybinding recorder closes Settings.
On the exact PR head, Escape keeps Settings open in both recorders. Existing shortcuts restore the original pill and its focus without a Close tooltip. Unsaved drafts reset. The new-binding recorder clears and loses focus. A second Escape closes Settings in both flows.
Saved Sidebar: Toggle as Ctrl+Alt+Y, reloaded, and verified the binding persisted and hid/reopened the sidebar. Reset to default, then verified Ctrl+B hid/reopened it.
Created the project and thread through the app against /home/user/t3code, then sent a real Codex gpt-6.1-sol turn through the composer/local proxy. SOL_VERIFY_OK rendered in the conversation. No mocks, fixtures, or demo provider were used.

Native iOS/Android and Electron shell behavior were not exercised on this Linux web verification pass. macOS/Windows keyboard handling, other provider adapters, and relay/tunnel connections were not exercised. The changed code is in the shared web Settings UI; no server/provider protocol or mobile code changes are in this PR.
