What & why

Clicking a URL in a Page navigated its iframe to the destination. Sites that reject embedding left the Page pane blank. Forward supported link clicks to the desktop so they open through the existing terminal URL actions while the Page remains loaded.

Workspace Pages honor configured URL actions and modifier shortcuts, with a browser-pane fallback for plain clicks when the terminal plain-click action is unset. Standalone Pages open links externally. In-page anchors, downloads, and comment selection retain their existing handling. The frame bridge is opt-in and checks the message source and origin.

Requires both the desktop change and the updated usercontent runtime. The runtime has a five-minute browser cache.

How I tested it

  • Reproduced before and after in this worktree's real Electron app over CDP, using a local copy of the reported page and real mouse input.
  • Before: plain-clicking a LinkedIn profile link replaced the Page iframe with LinkedIn's auth wall and blanked the pane; no browser pane opened.
  • After: the same link and click coordinates opened a separate browser pane. The original Page retained its URL, title, scroll position (630), and 133 links. No renderer console errors occurred during the click.
  • Also checked Command-click, in-page anchor navigation, comment selection, and closing/reopening the Page. Before/after screenshots captured locally; they contain private workspace content.
  • Targeted runtime and zoom regression tests: 30 passed. Added cases for bare/empty/whitespace/absolute anchors, SVG links, document base URLs, query/path changes, malformed URLs, cancelled events, and right clicks.
  • Follow-up CDP verification with a local fixture in the real Page pane: before the fix, href="#" opened a duplicate browser pane; afterward, it returned scrollY from 1492.5 to 0 with no link message. Empty href stayed in-frame; an SVG text link forwarded exactly https://example.com/svg. Screenshots captured locally.
  • Follow-up shared typecheck and changed-file lint: passed.
  • Shared, UI, and desktop typechecks: passed.
  • Repository-wide lint: passed.
  • Repository-wide typecheck: passed (42 tasks).
  • Full bun run test: failed in the desktop suite, including unchanged git task handlers and external worktree import tests receiving empty git command output. Rerunning git-task-handlers.test.ts in isolation passed all 12 tests. The targeted page regression tests pass.

Checklist

  • PR title follows conventional commits (type(scope): subject)
  • bun run lint and bun run typecheck pass (CI fails on lint warnings too)
  • "Allow edits from maintainers" is checked on fork PRs (not applicable: same-repository branch)

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added link handling in page views, including regular, middle-click, and modifier-key interactions.
    • Links can open externally, navigate within the workspace, or follow configured link actions.
    • Added support for email and telephone links.
    • Improved handling for downloads, in-page anchors, relative links, and links used while commenting.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Prevented unsupported, malformed, cancelled, or invalid links from triggering unintended navigation.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds iframe link forwarding, typed link messages, UI callback handling, and desktop URL policy actions. Tests cover supported protocols, modifier clicks, comment mode, downloads, relative URLs, and edge cases.

Changes

Page link handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Runtime link forwarding
packages/shared/src/page-comments-runtime.ts, packages/shared/src/page-comments-runtime.test.ts
The runtime defines link message types, forwards eligible links after host opt-in, preserves modifier keys, and excludes unsupported or in-page links. Tests cover protocol, event, anchor, and URL-resolution behavior.
UI link message bridge
packages/ui/src/components/PageComments/components/PageCommentsView/PageCommentsView.tsx
PageCommentsView accepts an onLinkClick callback, enables runtime link handling when provided, validates supported URL schemes, and invokes the current callback.
Desktop link actions
apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/_dashboard/components/PageViewer/PageViewer.tsx, apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/_dashboard/v2-workspace/$workspaceId/hooks/usePaneRegistry/components/PagePane/PagePane.tsx, apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/_dashboard/v2-workspace/$workspaceId/hooks/usePaneRegistry/usePaneRegistry.tsx
PageViewer provides a default external URL callback. PagePane receives the renderer store and applies URL policy actions, external handling, or pane navigation. The page pane registry passes the store to PagePane.

- iPhone launch, requirements, setup, host states, and Pro checklist: #7703, #7686, #7697, #7661, #7642, #7494. Files: install.mdx; faq.mdx; overview.mdx; remote-access.mdx.
- Editor save conflicts and Markdown link actions: #7711, #7621. Files: editor.mdx.
- Terminal locations, copying, and ended-session recovery: #7712, #7709, #7618. Files: terminal-integration.mdx.
- Model catalog, embedded sign-in, and leaderboard history: #7741, #7740, #7651. Files: agent-integration.mdx; usage.mdx; cli/cli-reference.mdx.
- Repository picker, cloud working branches and attachments, mobile sessions, sidebar naming and ordering: #7694, #7620, #7622, #7633, #7604, #7650, #7575. Files: first-workspace.mdx; workspaces.mdx.
- Slack plugin tools and gated thread follow-ups, queuing, mute and stop controls: #7583, #7585, #7586, #7588, #7592, #7594. Files: use-with-slack.mdx.
- New CLI transcript, environment, and page deletion commands; connected-service plugins and MCP CLI migration: #7602, #7317. Files: cli/cli-reference.mdx; skills.mdx.
- Startup recovery and pre-account workspace migration: #7764, #7649. Files: troubleshooting.mdx.

Current source wins over PR descriptions: page ordering is newest-created first, search includes description, default CLI output remains a bare array, and the leaderboard automatically backfills since launch (there is no history-range picker). Slack thread commands and Mobile settings retain their availability qualifications. No assumption that every merged fix is already in the latest download.

## Validation

- bun install: passed; no tracked dependency changes.
- bun run lint:fix: passed, no code fixes.
- bun run lint: passed.
- bun run --cwd apps/docs typecheck: passed.
- Vale on all 16 changed docs: zero errors and warnings. Small pre-existing prose violations in touched pages were corrected to satisfy the SOP.
- git diff --check: passed.

Only apps/docs/content/docs/ and the required append-only root TODO log are included. No push or PR.

37 PRs drove changes; 66 were deliberately skipped as separate documentation work.

* docs: correct stale claims and consolidate weekly updates

Replace outdated remote-port and privacy claims, correct the 90-day leaderboard backfill cap and link settings location, and describe credential use and comment-watch registration accurately. Consolidate iPhone requirements and troubleshooting, trim repeated Pages prose, and keep launch effort details in the CLI reference.

Remove the #7764 startup entry because it does not identify a fixed release and its upgrade instructions are too vague. This supersedes that item in the original PR audit. Validate with docs typecheck, lint:fix, lint, Vale (zero errors or warnings), and git diff --check.

* docs: trim repeated explanations across user guides

* docs: clarify iPhone cloud workspace requirements
