fix(mobile): preserve autocorrect in custom question answers - #30744
On iOS, custom answers in question cards keep typos that the main composer corrects. A controlled TextInput sends the draft back through Fabric while UIKit is preparing a correction. Let the native input own its text, keep saving changes to the draft, and clear the native input when an option selection clears that draft. Mounting the field restores the saved draft.
Tested head 62834cd8b2989499ac2d576fdadf7b02f92b401e, based on dd69b316656119b4613b13f3c076f45d4dbda2ce. The native client was built on shiv with Xcode 27.1 and tested on a Simlock iPhone 17 running iOS 27.0, with the English US software keyboard and Auto-Correction enabled. Backend and Metro ran on corex with isolated scripted-provider data. The iOS native fingerprint is 994fd7249d9b61e4302f1767d4e23664fbde5277.
Before, at 7a03a74189158ec8468b21d5e744f75b0507d24a: tapping hellp definately seperate leaves Hellp definately seperate. The input source is unchanged between that baseline and this branch's base.

After, at the tested head: the same software-keyboard taps produce Hello definitely separate.

Also verified on iOS at this head:
Selecting First clears the custom answer and checks First.
Typing hellp again produces Hello and unchecks First.
Leaving and reopening the thread restores Hello.
Submitting displays the answer and persists the corrected text:
Multiline answers also passed at this head on a direct shiv iPhone 17e running iOS 27.0 with the same native fingerprint. The isolated question projection was seeded while the backend was stopped. The field loaded its two-line initial answer, native Return and X key taps appended a third line, and leaving and reopening the thread restored the edit. Submission persisted exactly the following text, including two leading spaces:
{"status":"resolved","answers":{"editor":" First line\nSecond line\nX"},"resolvedAt":"2026-11-04T15:50:36.720Z"}

vp run check:changed passed: formatting, lint, knip, affected package typechecks, React Compiler, and six focused tests. A separate Codex source review found no issues. The new effect suppression needs human review under .macroscope/approvability.md.
Android regression checks passed at the same head on the direct shiv t3-tablet emulator running Android 15.0. The arm64 native fingerprint is aba84043a4edb30381916d38ad6a4e7aad2cc74f, built with JDK 17 and Gradle 9.4.1. Entering text enabled submission; choosing First cleared it; entering a new answer unchecked First. Leaving for Settings and reopening the thread restored the draft, and submission persisted the exact answer:
After entering another answer and navigating away and back:
Not shown: physical-device testing, non-English keyboards other than Japanese Romaji, or a real Claude turn. The pending questions and submitted receipts use the isolated scripted Fx provider; the changed input is shared across providers.
Current base 8b44f42b14c8e273156474a924ccf29680dd7857 was source-reviewed against the tested head's base. The question input, draft state and request keys are unchanged. The thread wrapper remains stable during typing, Thread navigation still uses the same animation, and the runtime query change only passes an additional argument. The newer Android sidebar and screen layout changes were source-reviewed; a combined build with this newer base was not device-tested.
Web and desktop are unaffected; this changes only the React Native question input. All providers use this field. No wire contracts or connection behavior change. No static prop or mocked callback test was added because it would not exercise UIKit autocorrection.

The custom-answer field never set autoCorrect or spellCheck, so Fabric
left the UITextView at UITextAutocorrectionTypeDefault. On device, typos
stayed uncorrected while the main composer, which sets both to true,
corrected the same taps. Set both explicitly on that field, the same way
the composer does.

The custom-answer field was a controlled TextInput, so every keystroke
changed its text prop and Fabric rebuilt the native attributed string.
That reassignment drops the pending autocorrection, so typos stayed as
typed while the native composer, which syncs by revision, corrected
them. Setting autoCorrect and spellCheck did not help and is removed.
The input is now uncontrolled: it starts from the stored draft and
reports changes to it as before. The only outside write while it is
mounted, an option selection clearing the draft, clears the native
input through its ref.

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — The change preserves mobile autocorrection by letting the native input own custom-answer text. It also adds a line-level lint suppression, which requires human review under the configured policy.

The question answer field now uses an uncontrolled native text input initialized from the external value. It tracks native edits and clears the input when the external value becomes empty.

Explanation
The title "fix(mobile): preserve autocorrect in custom question answers" follows conventional commit style and names the primary change. The raw summary and objectives both describe a change to the custom-answer input in the React Native question card that lets the native input own its text so iOS autocorrection is not interrupted. The title is specific and accurate.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
The change satisfies [#29529]. QuestionAttachments changes the custom-answer TextInput from controlled value updates to native defaultValue ownership. It still forwards each edit through props.onChangeText, so draft saving remains active. The effect clears the native input when an option selection clears props.value, and mounting initializes the field from the saved value. This directly addresses iOS autocorrection loss in the custom-answer field. The linked issue has no separate automated-test acceptance criterion.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The diff changes only apps/mobile/src/features/threads/QuestionAttachments.tsx. The ref, native text tracking, clear behavior, and initial-value behavior support the linked custom-answer input. No unrelated product area, wire contract, or connection behavior is changed.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description covers the problem (iOS autocorrect in custom question answers, with a controlled TextInput sending drafts through Fabric during UIKit correction), the change (native input owns its text, draft saves continue, native input clears on option selection, mounting restores the draft), and extensive verification (iOS and Android device runs, before/after screenshots and recordings, check:changed output, persisted JSON). It references a linked issue (#29529) in the Scope and approval position. Minor gaps: the 'Scope and approval' section does not explicitly name a maintainer approval comment for the direction, and the description uses 'Closes' with an issue link rather than a dedicated approval statement. The Problem section does not use the template's conventional-commit title format, which is part of the template header and is not present in the description body. Overall the description is mostly complete and addresses each required section.

- Around line 76-77: Update the option-selection clear flow in
QuestionAttachments so a stale native clear cannot leave the previous answer in
the input while the parent draft is empty. Preserve enough state to retry or
otherwise synchronize the clear when native text events are pending, and ensure
the submitted answer reflects the selected option rather than stale input text.
- Around line 67-78: Update the value-syncing useEffect in QuestionAttachments
to detect when props.value differs from nativeText.current, then update the
native input and nativeText.current to match. Preserve the no-op behavior when
they already match so normal typing does not reset the field or disrupt
autocorrection.
