fix(web): show the comparison base beside Changes totals - #30085
The desktop Changes row could show millions of added lines for a feature branch with only a few thousand changes against develop. When origin/HEAD was missing, T3 silently compared against origin/master, so the total included unrelated changes. The row now shows the comparison base next to the totals, such as "vs origin/master", with the full ref available on hover. The totals and base-selection rules stay the same.
Evidence
Before: the fixture shows +105/-0 without identifying the comparison base.
After: the same +105/-0 identifies origin/master, including the full ref on hover.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — The Changes row now identifies the comparison base, with a tooltip for truncated labels. This is a presentation-only change that preserves existing totals selection and Git actions.

Changes totals now include their comparison base. The Changes row displays “Uncommitted” for working-tree totals or “vs {baseRef}” for branch totals.

Add the comparison ref to totals apps/web/src/components/GitActionsControl.logic.ts, apps/web/src/components/GitActionsControl.logic.test.ts
ChangesLineTotals and resolveChangesTotals now include a nullable baseRef. Tests cover branch and working-tree totals, including branch totals that take precedence over smaller working-tree totals.

The Changes row displays “Uncommitted” or “vs {baseRef}” when totals are available. The base label has a tooltip, and the totals align at the row’s end.
pingdotgg/t3code#19530: The issue reports a mismatch between the Changes row base and the diff panel selection. This change displays the Changes row base but does not make it follow the panel selection.

Explanation
Issue #30058 requires the selected comparison base to appear beside the desktop Changes totals. ChangesLineTotals now carries baseRef, and resolveChangesTotals preserves the selected branch ref or assigns null for uncommitted changes. GitActionsControl.tsx renders vs <baseRef> or Uncommitted and provides the full label in a tooltip. The logic tests cover branch-base selection and working-tree fallback. The repository-wide comparison-base setting is optional in the issue and is not required by this change.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The whole-PR changes are limited to the Changes totals model, its tests, and the desktop Changes row. The layout changes support the base label, and the tooltip supports the full-ref requirement. The diff does not change base-selection rules or unrelated Git, server, mobile, or connection behavior.

Explanation
The description explains the problem and the intended UI change and includes before/after screenshots. It does not use the required Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections. It also omits explicit approval or a qualifying explanation and does not describe focused test results or checks performed.
Resolution
Rewrite the description using all template sections. native electron desktop, macos/windows, native ios/android, hosted web, relay/tunnel connections, and other providers were not exercised on this linux web pass. mobile has no equivalent summary row. the shared desktop renderer is covered only through web here. this verifies comparison-base visibility; it does not change base-selection policy or add a repository-wide setting.
Rewrote the description to explain the small-fix exception explicitly, summarize verification, and collect unverified cases in one place. The server already supplies the base; this fix displays the omitted context without changing totals, defaults, configuration or actions. No maintainer approval is claimed. The PR title already is fix(web): show the comparison base beside Changes totals; the template asks for a conventional PR title, not a duplicate title in its body. Runtime captures retain their original commit labels, with current-head checks reported separately.
Fresh Linux desktop evidence for the requested baseline aee76a8b473694878e820ed642b4b4018991f378 and head add2d25f402541059906d53bb802d721c07e0038. These are recordings of the real Electron app on corex, on an isolated Xvfb display at 1100×780, with isolated app state and a local server. The renderer checkout and the desktop process's T3CODE_COMMIT_HASH matched each recording's full commit caption. Electron 44.10.0, development shell version 0.0. The shell and server bundles were built from add2d25; their source is identical between these two commits.
The real Git fixture has no origin/HEAD, no upstream and initially no comparison override. develop adds 100 lines and feature adds five. Baseline shows +105/-0 without a base. Head identifies vs origin/master with the same totals, including a full-ref popup on the disabled draft row. Setting the existing branch.feature.t3-merge-base-ref to refs/remotes/origin/develop and requesting a real status refresh changes the label and totals to vs origin/develop +5/-0. Saved-thread hover works and Changes opens the real Diff; opening feature.txt displays its five lines. The saved thread was persisted with the real thread-create command, with no provider turn.
CUA supplied native window captures and the project-picker interaction. Background CUA Changes clicks did not activate the control; the recording verifies that action through Playwright in the same native Electron renderer. No external browser, account login or paid provider turn was used. Recordings include idle time while assertions and captures ran.

Final head is a6c7837fc26e1ec3bb831792f9a956d2366f2ec6; the three-file binary diff is unchanged, SHA256 df29b68432675027262a8a1fb69b06e2255e270ad66b90e619d5c00ee5d3abbf. Main's three new commits concern copied-thread links and delegated-recovery indexing. Fresh independent Codex review found no findings, interactions or superseding fix.
Rebuilt the development desktop and server bundles at this head and relaunched the actual Linux Electron app with the same isolated profile and missing-origin/HEAD fixture. The runtime environment and renderer checkout both identify the full head commit. Electron 44.10.0, development shell version 0.0, 1100×780. Repeated draft master fallback hover, full-ref develop override, saved hover and Changes opening the real Diff. All passed. No provider turn or login was used.

The requested baseline and exact add2d25 recordings are in #30085 (comment). These final-head captures replace reliance on unchanged-rebase provenance alone. Unverified: macOS/Windows desktop, hosted web and relay/tunnel connections. Native mobile has no equivalent summary row.
Recorded the actual Linux Electron app at ce94b61e21e1a94401fb0fb3387ff5cd0ae5ac59. The desktop and server bundles were rebuilt from this checkout, the Vite renderer serves this checkout, and the desktop runtime reports the same full commit. Electron 44.10.0, development shell 0.0, corex, isolated Xvfb display at 1100×780, isolated profile and local server. The commit is captioned throughout the recording.
Used the same missing-origin/HEAD fixture topology: develop has 100 integration additions, feature adds five, no upstream or initial comparison override. The recording shows master fallback vs origin/master +105/-0, full-ref hover while the draft row remains disabled, setting branch.feature.t3-merge-base-ref=refs/remotes/origin/develop followed by the real status-refresh command, the resulting vs origin/develop +5/-0, saved-thread hover and clicking Changes to open the real Diff with feature.txt. The saved thread was persisted through the normal create command, without a provider turn. Interaction uses the repository's Playwright/Electron route in the native renderer; CUA supplies native window captures. No external browser or account login.

Disabled draft tooltip and fallback totals:

Saved-thread full-ref hover:

Runtime assertions:
master fallback label and totals: disabled=True; Changes vs origin/master +105 -0; popup=[]
disabled draft full-ref hover: disabled=True; Changes vs origin/master +105 -0; popup=['vs origin/master']
develop override refreshed label and totals: disabled=True; Changes vs origin/develop +5 -0; popup=['vs origin/develop']
saved thread full-ref hover: disabled=False; Changes vs origin/develop +5 -0; popup=['vs origin/develop']
saved Changes opens real Diff with feature.txt: diffVisible=True; feature.txt visible=True
I inspected the captures and recording frames, and the complete MP4 decoded without errors. This fills the exact-head evidence gap; it does not rely on rebase equivalence. Existing focused checks and CI cover the unchanged source. Unverified: macOS/Windows desktop, hosted web and relay/tunnel. Native mobile has no equivalent Changes summary row.
Without origin/HEAD or a configured base, branch totals fall back to
master, so the sidebar Changes row could show a much larger diff than
the user expects with no hint of what it was measured against.
resolveChangesTotals now returns the baseRef of the counts it selects,
with null for working-tree (uncommitted) totals, and the Changes row
shows a muted, truncating "vs <base>" or "Uncommitted" label with the
full ref in a tooltip. No label is shown while status is missing.

Removed the added clean-branch test. The three original totals tests remain, with one branch-base regression that fails on main. A fresh independent Codex review found no findings.
Rebuilt the desktop and server development bundles from this head and recorded the native Linux Electron app on physical corex, Electron 44.10.1, app version 0.0, 1100×780, isolated profile and local server. The runtime reported the full head above. The missing-origin/HEAD fixture has no upstream or initial comparison override: develop adds 100 lines, feature adds five. No login or provider turn.
Verified the master fallback label with +105/-0, the full-ref tooltip while the draft Changes action is disabled, the existing develop override followed by a real status refresh to +5/-0, saved-thread hover, and clicking Changes opening Diff with feature.txt. The recording omits idle time. The baseline remains unchanged in #30085 (comment).

Closes #30058
What it fixes
The desktop Changes row could show millions of added lines for a feature branch with only a few thousand changes against develop. When origin/HEAD was missing, T3 silently compared against origin/master, so the total included unrelated changes. The row now shows the comparison base next to the totals, such as "vs origin/master", with the full ref available on hover. The totals and base-selection rules stay the same.
Evidence
Before: the fixture shows +105/-0 without identifying the comparison base.
After: the same +105/-0 identifies origin/master, including the full ref on hover.
