Unverified: a fresh live Subscription Sharing failure on final head e512ca0e23b11806968a400318eadaa80f814708. Neither of our Codex accounts currently reports an exhausted allowance. The live reporter evidence below is from the earlier branch head, with its classification path checked against this head.
Codex reports Subscription Sharing exhaustion as a stream error. T3 treats it as a provider failure, so the thread misses usage-limit recovery. This recognizes the reported prose and personal/Business sharing codes, and puts the notice in one compact card aligned with the composer.
The redundant settings description and floating duplicate are removed. Manage usage stays as a quiet secondary action because it opens the account's allowance and credit settings when no reset time is available. Business limits keep Copy request for admin.
Sharing caps stay independent of ordinary Codex windows. Their reset remains unknown even when an exhausted ordinary snapshot arrives before or after the failure. Known ordinary limits keep Resume at reset, Snooze and cancellation. The change touches classification and presentation; no scheduler, wire contract, packaging or scroll behavior changes.
NathanGlasby's report at 2026-10-26 20:03:53 UTC explicitly says his ChatGPT Subscription Sharing allowance was genuinely exhausted. He used an M5 MacBook Air on macOS 27, first stable 0.1.2 and then this PR's dev build. These are live account recordings, not our stubbed responses.
Before, stable 0.1.2 shows five retries followed by the raw stream-disconnect error:
before.mp4
After, the PR's dev build shows ChatGPT usage limit reached, Manage usage, and the unknown-reset recovery banner:
after.mp4
The PR branch head at the time of his report was 81584d6348673d075951a41438884ad8dbb2bf15. This is reconstructed from the branch history, not a SHA displayed in his recording. GitHub's reviews at 07:52, 07:53 and 08:00 UTC on October 26 all identify that head. The local branch reflog records it at 07:11:58 UTC. The next branch update was Maria's merge and reset correction on October 27, ending at 4a019a7787d4c72c8ce209a64a2c21fd2668743e. Nathan's comment names "this branch" without including his local SHA. No code, commits or history were changed for this verification.
Why the live result still applies to the classification on e512ca0
The exact error visible in Nathan's before recording is:
stream disconnected before completion: The ChatGPT user has reached their Subscription Sharing usage limit. Ask the user to try again after their usage limit resets or use an API key instead.
I executed classifyCodexManagedError from both 81584d6348673d075951a41438884ad8dbb2bf15 and e512ca0e23b11806968a400318eadaa80f814708 against that string. Both return code: subscription_sharing_usage_limit_exceeded, usageLimit: true and the same safe usage-settings message.
The classifier diff replaces the one-entry prose lookup with an inline check for the identical phrase, "has reached their Subscription Sharing usage limit". It also removes the unused revoke: false field. The two sharing codes and usageLimitCodes membership remain the same. withCodexManagedFailure in CodexAdapterV2.ts is byte-for-byte identical between the two commits: a managed sharing allowance sets class: usage_limit and replaces the native code/message. Both the streamed-error notification and completed failed turn still call it.
Maria's later failureResetAt correction keeps sharing resets unknown when an ordinary Codex snapshot is exhausted, including a late snapshot. The final web change moves the same classified failure into one composer-aligned card. It does not change the native error or its classification.
The existing classifier regression case containing Nathan's full error text is unchanged between those commits. A focused run on exact final head passed on corex:
vp test run src/provider/CodexManagedErrors.test.ts src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/CodexAdapterV2.test.ts -t 'treats only ChatGPT sharing allowance limits|reads sharing codes|classifies Codex terminal failures from chatgpt-sharing' --reporter verbose
PASS treats only ChatGPT sharing allowance limits as usage limits
PASS reads sharing codes from structured errors and exact turn details
PASS classifies Codex terminal failures from chatgpt-sharing-prose-retry evidence
PASS classifies Codex terminal failures from chatgpt-sharing-prose evidence
Test Files 2 passed (2)
Tests 4 passed | 114 skipped (118)
Duration 53.84s
Exit 0
The 114 cases were excluded by the name filter. The adapter cases cover responseStreamDisconnected with the exact reporter text during retry and terminal completion, and sharing reset isolation when an ordinary exhausted snapshot arrives before or after the failure. This ties the live historical failure to the current classifier and adapter; it does not turn the historical recording into a live final-head run.
Current account check
At 2026-10-29 12:39:57 UTC, mcli status --json reported both Codex accounts active, available and not unavailable. The personal account had 50% of its weekly allowance remaining; the work account had 38%. Neither reported a current sharing or usage-limit error. The selected T3 instances codex-personal and codex-work use the personal and work mcli routes respectively. The personal account's recent requests were succeeding. No limited account was available to record a fresh live failure on e512ca0. These ordinary quota readings do not independently measure a separate Subscription Sharing allowance.
Packaged Electron before and after
Both recordings run the packaged Linux desktop app on physical corex, on its own 1440 × 900 X11 display with isolated Electron profiles, T3 homes and a small Git project. The AppImages include their own server and web client. They use the installed native Codex CLI 0.165.0, not the controlled protocol peer below.
Only upstream HTTP is stubbed. Codex is configured with a local Responses endpoint and requires_openai_auth=false, so no account login or paid request is involved. The actual path is Electron composer → bundled T3 server → native Codex app-server → HTTP /v1/responses → native Codex error → T3 adapter → thread and recovery UI. The Settings section at the start of each recording shows the real binary and launch arguments.
In each app, select Codex GPT-6-Luna and submit "Check the project and continue the task." The local HTTP endpoint returns status 400 with the reporter's exact Subscription Sharing prose and personal sharing code. The native CLI generates its own error and failed-turn protocol events; no Codex protocol messages or UI state are injected. HTTP 400 is a fixture choice, not a claim about the live account's HTTP status.

Web uses those same React components. Mobile's unchanged UsageLimitRecoveryCard.tsx and ChatGptUsageLimitNotice.tsx consume the same server failure/code/reset fields.
Controlled-peer interaction evidence on this head
These earlier recordings remain test evidence, distinct from the native Codex integration above. They run the real web client and isolated server on corex at exact head e512ca0e23b11806968a400318eadaa80f814708, with a controlled Codex protocol subprocess. This supplies personal and Business failures and exhausted ordinary snapshots before and after sharing failures.
The full recording includes prompt submission and thread/composer state. At about 4:00, Business Copy request for admin produces Request copied. At 5:47, ordinary Resume at reset becomes Cancel auto-resume; at 5:49, cancellation restores Resume at reset. Web and packaged Electron run these controls in the same UsageLimitRecoveryBanner.tsx.

CI on this head passed. A separate Codex review found no open findings. Macroscope approved e512ca0, and CodeRabbit generated no actionable comments.
The PR does not change the account allowance or discover its reset time. Nathan's live recordings above establish the actual exhausted-account behavior on the historical branch. The final-head recordings establish the current layout and integration with explicit stub boundaries.
Implemented by Opus 5.5 through Claude Code, with the reset correction by maria-rcks. Investigated, tested and reviewed by gpt-6.1-sol through Codex.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — ChatGPT sharing limits now receive usage-limit recovery guidance while preserving usage-management and admin-request actions. Unknown sharing reset times remain unscheduled, keeping this a contained error-handling and presentation change.

Walkthrough
Codex managed errors now classify configured usage-limit codes and matching prose. The adapter preserves managed failure details and calculates reset times per failure. The web recovery banner uses the error code to select ChatGPT- or workspace-specific content and actions.
Classification parses structured errors and JSON strings, recognizes configured codes and exact usage-limit prose, and returns a usageLimit flag. Tests cover recognized and unrecognized inputs.
Adapter failure handling and validation apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/CodexAdapterV2.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/CodexAdapterV2.test.ts
The adapter applies managed messages and codes to failures, marks managed usage limits, and calculates reset times per failure. Replay tests cover workspace and sharing limits, retry notifications, and reset snapshots.
ChatView passes the last error code to the recovery banner. The banner distinguishes ChatGPT and workspace limits and displays their corresponding recovery content. ThreadErrorBanner changes its usage-limit text.

Thanks for picking this up! I tested this branch locally on my M5 MacBook Air (macOS 27) with ChatGPT Subscription Sharing, while my usage limit was actually exhausted.
Before (stable 0.1.2): sending a prompt showed the raw stream error.
before.mp4
After (this branch, dev build): it retried the provider 5 times (about 20s), then showed a "ChatGPT usage limit reached" card with a Manage usage button, plus a "Usage limit reached. Reset time unavailable, retry manually" banner. Works as expected for me.
updated the existing branch at 4a019a7787d4c72c8ce209a64a2c21fd2668743e, preserving your commits and merging current main. thanks @shivamhwp for the focused classifier fix and for preserving chatgpt's manage-usage/admin actions.
i removed the one-entry prose lookup table and kept sharing-cap resets independent of ordinary codex windows. personal and business caps now retain manual recovery when their own reset is unknown, including when an exhausted codex snapshot arrives later. no new test files or scheduler changes.
verification: the two reset regressions failed before the fix. blacksmith check:changed passes lint, affected typechecks, and 139 tests. all 32 ci checks are green. macroscope and two independent reviewers approved this head. coderabbit's latest review was service-limited; its earlier finding remains addressed.
the real web client was exercised through a synthetic codex subprocess for classification, manual retry, manage-usage popup, and the exact admin-request clipboard text. uploaded video playback and seeking passed. actual sharing-cap reset, native desktop/mobile, and remote/relay clients remain unverified. the pr body now reflects those limits and includes this evidence.
verification is partial. the sharing-limit fix remains unverified with this vm's account. no code changes or pushes were made.
i read the diff and discussion. the pr is open and contains no commits authored by @juliusmarminge or @t3dotgg. git.cafe also numbers it 25341.

drove the actual web client with the repo's playwright and /usr/bin/google-chrome. added the real git repository through the app and selected codex gpt-6.1-sol. no mocks, fixtures, replay provider, synthetic protocol peer, or database seeding.
main and the pr completed the same prompt, returning MAIN_CODEX_OK through the local responses proxy. these matching-prompt screenshots prove normal provider availability, not reproduction of the sharing-limit bug.
on the pr, a follow-up real provider turn executed pwd and git rev-parse --short HEAD, returned /home/user/t3code and 4a019a7787, then PROVIDER_TOOL_OK. reloading retained both replies and the tool results.
blacksmith ran the existing CodexManagedErrors.test.ts and CodexAdapterV2.test.ts: 2 files and 96 tests passed. the pr has 32 successful ci checks, 0 failing, 0 pending. these checks do not establish live sharing-cap recovery.
inspected the captures. the trimmed real-turn video plays to completion and seeks in t3's browser player.
main, normal codex turn:
pr, same prompt:
Not verified
the changed sharing-limit behavior could not be exercised. this vm uses a custom responses proxy without a chatgpt account. the original bug did not reproduce on main. the real codex app-server reports:
the app's usage panel independently shows the same unavailable usage state:
therefore personal and business sharing-cap exhaustion, manage-usage/admin actions for those errors, unknown-reset handling with early/late allowance snapshots, manual retry after a real cap reset, and ordinary exhausted-window recovery remain unverified through a real provider. proving them needs a genuinely sharing-limited chatgpt account. generating the error artificially would not satisfy this brief.
native desktop, ios/android, macos/windows, remote/relay, and tunnel behavior were not exercised on this linux vm. the verification status is unverifiable for the changed behavior, with the normal-turn/tool/persistence checks above passing.
media limitation: the screenshots render on github. github treats the external mp4 image syntax as an image and does not render an inline video; the uploaded mp4 itself passed full playback and seeking in t3's browser player.
Codex can report a ChatGPT sharing limit as prose only ("The ChatGPT user has
reached their Subscription Sharing usage limit"), which the managed error
classifier did not recognize. Even with a sharing code, the adapter replaced
the message and code but kept provider_error, so the Limited state, reset time
and resume-at-reset never applied.
The classifier now maps that exact prose to the personal sharing limit code and
flags the personal and Business sharing limits as usage limits. The Codex
adapter gives those the usage_limit class; other sharing failures keep theirs.
Reset times still come only from exhausted Codex windows.

ChatView hides the thread error banner for usage-limit failures in favor of the
recovery banner. Now that ChatGPT sharing limits are usage limits, that would
drop the ChatGPT banner and its "Manage usage" and "Copy request for admin"
actions. Keep it for those two codes; mobile already shows both.

The sharing limit showed a floating ChatGPT banner on top of the usage-limit
timeline line and recovery card. The recovery card now carries the ChatGPT
title, icon and Manage usage or admin-request action, and the floating banner
is suppressed like other usage limits.
