Change

Hotfix. With Settings → Chat → Panes open in: Chat on a desktop, a shell split to the right of an agent opened its terminal. Then it switched to the chat while it was in use, as soon as an agent started in it. The lens was re-derived from the Settings default and the pane's agent on every snapshot.

  • src/lib/paneLens.ts settles each pane's default lens for the page once the snapshot says whether the pane has an agent. An agent starting or exiting in the pane no longer switches its lens. A lens picked by hand still wins, and a new Settings default starts over for every pane.
  • A workspace this page started an agent in (New workspace with an agent) opens in an agent's lens, even if the first snapshot still shows its shell.
  • Inactive split tiles judged the agent with item.agent !== null. herdr omits agent for a shell, so it is undefined and they counted as agents. They now use != null, as the selected pane already did.

Validation

  • src/lib/paneLens.test.ts (6 tests) and bun run typecheck pass.
  • scripts/default-view-regression.ts gains the scenario: chat default, split a shell beside an agent, select it (terminal), then report an agent in it (still terminal). On main it fails with actual: "Chat transcript (⌘⇧J)". On this branch ui-regression.ts passes end to end (112 checks).

The lens was re-derived from Settings' default and whether the pane has an
agent on every snapshot. With the default on Chat, a shell split beside an
agent opened its terminal, then switched to chat under the user as soon as
an agent started in it.

- lib/paneLens.ts settles each pane's default lens for the page once the
snapshot says whether it has an agent; a hand-picked lens still wins and a
  new Settings default starts over.
- A workspace this page started an agent in opens in an agent's lens.
- Inactive split tiles compared `agent !== null`, but herdr omits `agent`
  for a shell (undefined): use `!= null`.
- default-view-regression: a split shell keeps its terminal when an agent
starts in it (fails on main).

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Panes now preserve their displayed view when an agent starts or exits, unless you manually selected a view. The default-view setting is applied consistently across panes.
    • Shell panes opened beside an agent now show the live terminal when Chat is the default view.

Walkthrough

The change adds pane-specific lens resolution and connects it to session creation and app view selection. It documents lens retention across agent start and exit, adds unit coverage, and adds a regression check for a shell pane beside an agent.

Changes

Pane Lens Retention

Layer / File(s) Summary
Default lens rules and pane cache
src/lib/paneLens.ts, src/lib/paneLens.test.ts
defaultLens selects chat or terminal from the configured default, agent state, and coarse-pointer status. PaneLenses caches resolved lenses by pane, with tests for agent state changes and distinct panes.
Session and pane view wiring
src/components/NewSessionDialog.tsx, src/App.tsx, scripts/default-view-regression.ts, CHANGELOG.md
NewSessionDialog reports whether an agent started. App uses PaneLenses when resolving pane views, transfers lens records when panes move, and records agent starts. The regression script checks that a selected shell pane stays on the live terminal after an agent is reported as working. The changelog documents pane lens retention and the Settings choice.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 6bdc3

The change keeps a pane's terminal or chat lens stable when an agent starts or exits, and carries it across pane moves. No actionable merge-blocking risk is evident from the supplied context.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 564bc

The change retains a pane’s displayed view without adding permission, changing session identity, or bypassing existing access controls. No material security risk introduced or worsened by this PR was identified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The new mutable state is confined to view selection within a frontend page. It can affect selected and inactive pane presentation, but does not create a new machine identity, session command, credential, or authorization grant.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — No introduced privilege-expansion or control-bypass path was identified in the changed flow. Agent presence and creation outcomes influence a view value, while terminal consumers retain explicit pane identity and existing authenticated access controls.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The downstream boundary remains server-enforced: websocket and API access require authentication, and read-only versus interactive access is determined independently of the displayed lens. PaneTerminal continues to operate on the explicit pane ID under its machine context.

A pane moved to another workspace gets a new id from herdr; its settled
lens now follows it (PaneLenses.move from actions.paneMoved), so a shell
that started an agent keeps its terminal after the move. Found by CodeRabbit.

…swer Hermes, end shut-down teammates (#764)

## Change

Fixes four things reported against 0.4.6, all in the prompt reader and
the Claude background-task reader.

- **Claude multiple choice with ticked rows (#752).** Claude Code
2.1.296 draws a ticked row as `[✔]`; the reader only took `[✓]`, so once
a row was ticked the card became a single choice, its labels kept the
box, and a pick sent Enter on a multi-select row, which unticks it.
`[✔]` is now a tick. With the cursor on the unnumbered **Submit** row
the card no longer disappears: the moves count Submit as a row between
"Type something" and "Chat about this", so ↑/↓ + Enter + → still land
where they should.
- **`/model` guard (#542).** `claudeModelListWaits()` read the hint over
six lines joined with spaces, so a hint cut inside a word (`ses` /
`sion`) or wrapped over seven lines was missed and pending delivery
could type Enter into the list. The hint is now read with spaces taken
out over up to sixteen lines, and the run of lines that holds it must
begin with it, so the same words quoted in Claude's output (`⏺ Example:
Enter to set as default …`) no longer hold pending sends.
`parseClaudeModel` and `promptTailIsActive` read the hint the same way,
so the card and the guard agree.
- **Agent-team teammates that shut down (carried from #744 by
@Haeminway1).** A teammate that approved its lead's shutdown request is
read as completed at that answer, so the pane's running count stops
counting it. Cherry-picked with its author kept.
- **Hermes clarify questions (carried from #750 by @DarkoKuzmanovic).**
Hermes's clarify dialog gets an answer card: arrows + Enter for a
choice, Space ticks + Enter for a multiple choice, typed text for
"Other" and open questions. No digits are sent, per server/AGENTS.md.
Cherry-picked with its author kept, plus one review fix (53ae368): text
already on the dialog's `>` line (typed in the terminal, or a typed
answer Tab brought back) used to join the chat's answer, so the line is
emptied first with ctrl+k / ctrl+u, which Hermes's TextInput takes on
every platform (`ui-tui/src/lib/platform.ts`). An unused `currentPrompt`
export is dropped.

Fixes #752
Fixes #542
Carries #744 and #750

Not changed: #542's gap 4 (a line under the hint that is not Claude's
footer). The issue says no real layout is known to draw one, so it is
left for a maintainer decision.

## Verification

- Before the fix (53ae368), the six new tests failed as the issues
describe: the three `Claude's multiple choice ticked in the terminal`
tests (no card, single choice, Submit move missing) and the three
`Claude Code's model list under a hint wrapped anywhere` tests (split
word, seven lines, quoted hint). They pass after 999099b.
- `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test ./server/prompt.test.ts
./server/hermes-prompt.test.ts ./server/claude-subagents.test.ts`: 311
pass, 0 fail.
- `bun run typecheck`: passes.
- `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check full` on ba61fd4 (after merging
origin/main 5792d71): workflow syntax, generated types, typecheck,
build, unit tests and the integration and browser lanes all `ok` (252
browser PASS, 0 FAIL).

Origin/main was merged in, not rebased (5792d71, #755); the only
conflict was CHANGELOG.md.

## Change

Fixes #751: push alerts reached every device even while the person was
at a window of the app.

**Rule:** while any WebSocket connection of this server says its page is
in use, meaning `document.visibilityState === "visible"` and
`document.hasFocus()` (the same test PaneTerminal's `inUse` makes), **no
device gets a push alert**. This matches the reporter's expectation: if
any client is in focus, no device is notified. The test push (**Send
test**) is exempt.

- `shared/protocol.ts`: new client frame `{ type: "presence"; active:
boolean }`. Older servers ignore unknown frames, so no feature flag is
needed.
- Client: `src/lib/presence.ts` watches focus, blur, visibilitychange
and pagehide. Every PC connection (`MachineSession`) passes it to
`HerdrSocket.setPresence`, which sends it on change and replays it after
the role on every reconnect.
- Server (`server/index.ts`): a `present` set of in-use connections. It
is updated before relaying, so a page that only has a remote PC open
still counts: alerts for every PC go out from the connection server. A
connection leaves the set on close or device revocation.
- `server/push.ts`: new `inUse` option, checked when an alert would go
out (after its delay), not when the status changed. A window brought
forward during the 10 s/60 s wait therefore still holds it back.
`onEnded` is held the same way.
- Demo transport answers `presence` (no alerts there). `docs/guide.md`
states the rule.

Maintainer note: a desktop window left focused while you walk away holds
every alert until it loses focus or is hidden (screen lock or sleep
usually hides it). If that turns out too strict, an idle timeout is a
possible follow-up.

## Validation

- Reproduction first: `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test
./server/push.test.ts -t '#751'` failed before the fix (2 fail: 2 alerts
and 1 alert leaked), and passes after (33/33 in the file).
- `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test ./src/lib/ws.test.ts
./src/lib/machineSession.test.ts ./server/push.test.ts`: 62 pass.
Removing the reconnect replay line makes the new ws test fail (mutation
checked).
- Contract test (live isolated herdr): `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check
run bun test --timeout 15000 ./server/api.contract.test.ts -t 'web
push'`: 7 pass. It covers: no alert while a connected page is in use, an
alert once it says it is not, and an alert again after an in-use page
closes. Mutation: dropping `inUse` from `createPushService` makes it
fail (1 alert leaked).
- `bun run check fast` (generated types, typecheck, build, unit): EXIT
0, 2455 pass, 0 fail.
- Real-browser QA on the built client (`check run --build`, headless
Chromium, isolated herdr, fake push device):
- S1: page visible and focused, sends `presence true`, a blocked agent
gives 0 alerts.
  - S2: page hidden, sends `presence false`, 1 alert.
  - S3: page visible again, sends `presence true`, 0 new alerts.
- PASS. Headless Chrome never hides a tab, so S2/S3 simulate
`visibilitychange` inside the real page; the app's own listeners send
the frames.
- After merging origin/main (5792d71, #755) into the branch:
`CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check fast` EXIT 0 (2462 pass, 0 fail);
web-push contracts 7/7.
- CodeRabbit fixes (37ea47f): `inUse` is checked again after the title
lookup (new unit case; it fails without the recheck), and the contract
helper waits only for frames its own report caused. Push unit tests
34/34; web-push contracts 7/7; typecheck clean.

…able link underlines (#763)

## What changed

**#667: a click queued behind an arrow keeps the attach input path.**
Since #634 a plain arrow goes through the pane's key queue
(`pane.send_keys`). A mouse report that arrived while that RPC was
pending took the queued `pane.send_text` path, which types the bytes
literally (`ESC[<0;5;3M` reached the program as text). Queued input that
is nothing but mouse reports (`isMouseReport`, SGR and default
encodings) is now written to the attach pty it was taken in. It waits
its turn in the queue and passes the same claim, attachment, pty,
readiness and role checks before the write; other queued typing is
unchanged.

**#739: no dotted line under OmO's side panel rows.** OmO wraps its
FILES, GOAL and MEMORY rows in OSC 8 hyperlinks with its own
`omo-panel:` scheme (only OmO's mouse handling follows them). herdr's
attach stream keeps each link open over the row's padding
(`ESC]8;;omo-panel:file/.gitignore ESC\ M .gitignore … <29 spaces>`,
closed on the next row). xterm.js 5.5 underlines every linked cell with
a dashed line (`ExtendedAttrs.underlineStyle` returns 5 for a cell with
a `urlId`), so a dotted rule ran from each row to the panel's edge. An
OSC 8 hyperlink that neither the link handler nor the file viewer can
open is now swallowed (`hyperlinkFilter`, registered next to the OSC 52
handler). The exception is a link that replaces one xterm still holds
open: it passes through, so the open one still ends where it should.
http(s) and `file:///` links and SGR underlines are unchanged.

The other two #739 symptoms did not reproduce: the ragged FILES rows and
the meter drawn on two rows. In the real app on an isolated herdr, OmO
5.1.29 ran with `--omo-side-panel --tui-mode fullscreen` at 156 columns,
and the panel rows were aligned with a one-row meter. A stand-in panel
with a 3 █ + 24 ░ meter beside ⏺ ✔ 한글 😺 in the left column also drew
aligned rows and one unbroken bar. herdr positions those panel rows with
absolute CUPs. The reporter's video shows aligned FILES rows and a
single meter as well, so those two symptoms are left open on #739.

Fixes #667
Refs #739

## Verification

- `HERDR_TEST_SESSION=herdr-web-ui-test-l5 bun test --timeout 15000
./server/keys-lifecycle.contract.test.ts`: before the fix, the new
"writes a click queued behind an arrow into the attach" test failed:
`send_text` got `ESC[<0;5;3MESC[<0;5;3m`. After the fix, 15/15 pass,
including the new detach/replace click cases.
- `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test ./server/input-guard.test.ts`: 3 pass.
- `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test ./src/lib/terminalFileLinks.test.ts`:
22 pass. With the filter's drop removed, the two new link tests fail.
- `bun run typecheck`: pass. `bun run build`: pass.
- Browser, built `dist/` and Chrome on an isolated herdr session, the
same OmO pane before and after: the dotted rules under FILES rows are
gone (before/after screenshots kept with the maintainer's lane evidence:
739-before-full.png, 739-after-full.png, 739-after-meter.png).
- Review fix e3e174c (CodeRabbit): the filter's state is reset with
`term.reset()` on a pane change; the new reset test fails without it.
`CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check fast`: exit 0.
- `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check full` on the branch merged with
origin/main (7cf68ca, includes #755): exit 0 (Fast checks, integration
and browser lanes).

…758)

## Change

Three maintainer-approved contributions to the terminal, carried onto
current `main` in one PR because all three edit
`src/components/PaneTerminal.tsx` and each conflicted with `main`. Each
keeps its contributor as commit author (cherry-picked in order #731,
#719, #713; the contributors' commit messages carry the full design
notes).

- **Cursor shape and blink in Settings → Terminal** (#731 by
@bluzername): Block / Bar / Underline and a Blinking cursor switch,
saved per device through `sanitizeSettings`, applied live through
`term.options` (no remount). A program's own DECSCUSR can still change
it. Strings in ko/ja/zh.
- **A held key-bar arrow repeats like a held key** (#719 by @zerodice0):
first repeat after 400 ms, then every 50 ms until release; only the four
arrows (including saved arrow combinations and held modifiers) repeat; a
tap still sends one key; a sideways swipe scrolls the row and sends
nothing; a long press opens no callout. `PaneTerminal` passes a
`holdScope` so a pane or lens change cancels a hold. New
`scripts/key-bar-hold-repeat-regression.ts` is in the browser lane.
- **Two-finger pinch changes the terminal font size on a phone** (#713
by @zerodice0): the font follows the fingers live (10–22 px) with a size
badge, the shared pty gets one resize when a finger lifts, `touchcancel`
restores the starting size. New `scripts/terminal-pinch-regression.ts`
runs in `scripts/ui-regression.ts`.

Conflict resolution only: the cursor props go on the `PaneTerminal` that
`PaneCanvas` now renders, `holdScope` and the pinch badge sit on
`main`'s current KeyBar line and terminal host, and
`scripts/ci-browser.test.ts` expects 26 browser scripts. The review
findings on the three PRs were CodeRabbit's missing changelog links; the
changelog entries are added in a separate commit with both PR links and
credit.

Closes #620, Closes #718, Closes #707

Supersedes #731, #719, #713

## Verification

Before the change (branch scripts and tests against `main`'s `src/`):
- `bun scripts/key-bar-hold-repeat-regression.ts`: FAIL, "a held Left
repeats before release (got 1)".
- `bun scripts/terminal-pinch-regression.ts` (isolated test session):
FAIL, "pinch start shows the size badge".
- `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test ./src/lib/settings.test.ts`: FAIL on
the cursor defaults test.

On this branch:
- `bun run generate:types --check`, `bun run typecheck`, `bun run
build`: PASS.
- `bun run test:unit`: 2472 pass, 8 skip, 0 fail (includes settings,
keyRepeat, pinchFontSize, i18n, motion and ci-browser tests).
- `bun scripts/key-bar-hold-repeat-regression.ts`: PASS (tap, hold 10–11
repeats, short hold, swipe, Esc, sticky Ctrl, contextmenu).
- `bun scripts/terminal-pinch-regression.ts` (isolated test session) and
`CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check run --build bun
scripts/terminal-pinch-regression.ts`: PASS.
- `bun scripts/settings-pages-demo-regression.ts` (every Settings page
at 390 and 320 px) and `bun
scripts/key-bar-customization-demo-regression.ts`: PASS.
- Phone (390×844, touch) on demo fixtures: a saved Bar/no-blink draws
`xterm-cursor-bar` without blink; choosing Underline and Blinking in
Settings changes the live cursor to `xterm-cursor-underline
xterm-cursor-blink`; a pinch shows the `21px` badge and saves 21 on
release.

After merging `main` (5792d71, #755; the only conflict was CHANGELOG,
both sections kept): `bun run typecheck` PASS; settings, keyRepeat,
pinchFontSize, i18n, motion, paneLens and ci-browser tests 94 pass, 0
fail; `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check run --build bun
scripts/terminal-pinch-regression.ts`, `bun
scripts/key-bar-hold-repeat-regression.ts` and `bun
scripts/settings-pages-demo-regression.ts` PASS.

…e a stopped send (#760)

## Change

Three chat-send fixes for Claude panes reported against v0.4.6.

- **Send now steers a working Claude turn (#737).**
`dispatchPendingText` committed every pending message with Enter, and
Claude Code queues what Enter commits during a turn. When Send now
steers a working Claude pane (`!automatic && beforeEnter.working`), the
committing key is now `ctrl+enter`, which Claude Code takes as "send
now". herdr encodes that key as the pane asked: `ESC[27;5;13~` under
modifyOtherKeys (what Claude Code asks for), `ESC[13;5u` under the kitty
protocol, and a plain CR for a program that asked for neither (measured
on herdr 0.9.3). Automatic next-turn delivery, an idle agent and every
other agent keep Enter.
- **The pending paste and its key carry the write-time guard (#666).**
Both RPCs now pass the lease-aware guard (`authorizePending` as a
predicate) that #624 gave the other input paths, so a sender that
detaches, switches roles, disconnects or is revoked while herdr's
connect is awaited writes nothing. A guard that refuses the paste leaves
the message unsent (held, with the lease's own error code). One that
refuses the key after the paste leaves it `uncertain`
(`submit_changed`), as before.
- **A send stopped before Claude answers goes back to the composer.**
This carries #741 by @Haeminway1 (commit authored by them), rebased on
main with conflicts resolved. See that PR for the full description. On
top of it, two fixes from its review:
- `GET /api/pane/prompt` took the viewport's ANSI read as both the box
and its colors, so a pane scrolled to an older box holding the chat's
last message answered it as `restored`, filling the composer and hiding
the turn (CodeRabbit). The route now checks the read it already makes,
then reads the live screen's box and takes the viewport's colors only
where `viewportShowsLive` verifies them, as the send paths do.
- The two Esc presses that empty Claude's restored copy now ask the
sender's right before each press and pass it to herdr as a guard
(CodeRabbit security review).

Fixes #737
Fixes #666
Carries #741

## Verification

Integration and contract tests ran on an isolated herdr session
(`HERDR_TEST_SESSION=herdr-web-ui-test-l2`).

- Reproduced first. `server/pending-input.contract.test.ts` gained three
tests: a Claude steer commits with Ctrl+Enter while automatic delivery
and Codex keep Enter; and the paste's and the key's herdr connects are
held (a wrapped `paneSendText`/`paneSendKeys`) while the sender switches
observe→interact. All three failed on main (Claude got `\r`; the lapsed
lease still pasted and still committed) and pass with the fix.
- `restored` route: a new test in the same file scrolls a pane to an
older box holding the chat's message. It answers `restored: null`, and
the live box at the bottom answers the message. With #741's original
route it fails (`Received: "run the tests"`).
- `bun run typecheck`: pass.
- `bun run test:unit`: 2460 pass, 0 fail.
- `bun test ./server/pending-input.contract.test.ts
./server/submit.contract.test.ts ./server/api.contract.test.ts`: all
pass. `pending-input` is 41/41 and `submit` 36/36 after updating #741's
Esc assertion for the guard argument.
- `bun run build`, then `scripts/restored-draft-demo-regression.ts`
(#741's, added to `ci-browser.sh`), `composer-fit-demo-regression.ts`
and `held-rows-demo-regression.ts`: all PASS.
- `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check full` on 6b385d4 (before the merge of
main): workflow syntax, generated types, typecheck, build, unit tests,
integration (exit 0) and all 26 browser-lane scripts (exit 0).
- After merging `origin/main` (5792d71, #755; only `CHANGELOG.md`
conflicted): `bun run typecheck` pass, `bun run test:unit` 2467 pass / 0
fail, the three contract files 185 pass / 0 fail, and `restored-draft`,
`composer-fit` and #755's `default-view` browser scripts PASS.

Not verified live against a real Claude Code: the key choice follows the
issue's own live reproduction (Claude Code 2.1.294), and the bytes herdr
sends were measured above.

…#757)

Closes #434, Closes #530

Supersedes #730, #689

## Change

Two chat features from outside contributors, rebased onto `main` after
0.4.6, with each contributor kept as the commit author:

- **SendUserFile files as openable links** (#730 by @bluzername). The
chat no longer shows a `SendUserFile` call's raw JSON. It shows the
caption and opens each file in the existing file viewer, the same way
any other tool's `file_path` opens. There is no new route and no new
access rule. CodeRabbit's review finding is fixed: rows are keyed by
position, so a path listed twice no longer gives React a duplicate key.
- **The conversation is read when its transcript changes, not every 2
s** (#689 by @zerodice0). The bridge advertises `conversation-watch`. A
visible Chat asks for `conversation-changed` pushes on its existing
WebSocket (`server/conversation-monitor.ts`: one 250 ms stat loop per
watched pane, no turn parsing). The client
(`src/lib/conversationRefresh.ts`) reads at most once every 2 s from
pushes, with a 10 s backstop. Without pushes it falls back to the old 2
s poll. That covers an older bridge or a released pane. The demo
transport (`site/demo/transport.ts`) answers the new frame.

### Conflict resolution against `main`

- #615 landed first and gzips every text answer (`server/compress.ts`)
with weak ETags. So #689's conversation-only gzip negotiation
(`conversationResponse`) is dropped, along with the relay's
`content-encoding` pass-through in `server/machine-api.ts` and the tests
for both (`api.contract.test.ts` "conversation response encoding",
`machine-proxy.test.ts`). This is what #689 itself proposed if #615
landed first. The conversation endpoint keeps main's weak ETag and 304
handling.
- `server/codex.contract.test.ts` keeps main's weak-ETag assertion.

### Remote PCs

`MachineRelay` forwards client frames unchanged, so `conversation-watch`
reaches a remote bridge, and that bridge's `snapshot` decides whether
the feature is used. **`REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` is deliberately not
raised (maintainer release step): the remote bundle needs a bump at
release** before remote PCs get pushes. Until then, a remote PC's bridge
(remote runtime v25) does not advertise `conversation-watch`. The client
sends it no unknown frame, and its Chat polls every 2 s as before. A new
`ws.test.ts` case covers this.

## Verification

Run on Linux x64 against an isolated herdr test session
(`HERDR_TEST_SESSION=herdr-web-ui-test-l7`), never the user's session:

- `bun run typecheck`: pass. `bun run build`: pass.
- `bun run test:unit`: 2470 pass, 8 skip, 0 fail.
- `bun test ./server/conversation-push.contract.test.ts
./server/api.contract.test.ts ./server/codex.contract.test.ts`: 119
pass, 0 fail.
- `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test ./src/lib/ws.test.ts
./src/lib/conversationFetch.test.ts ./src/lib/sendUserFile.test.ts
./server/machine-proxy.test.ts ./server/compress.test.ts`: pass. The new
older-bridge case in `ws.test.ts` fails when the `conversation-watch`
feature check in `HerdrSocket.attach` is removed (checked, then
restored).
- `bun scripts/chat-browser-qa.ts`: all 8 PASS, including "send refresh
preserves history and slow refreshes do not overlap".
- `bun scripts/chat-history-browser-qa.ts`: all PASS.
- Demo transport: `chat-greeting-demo-regression.ts`,
`held-rows-demo-regression.ts`, `prompt-dock-demo-regression.ts`: PASS.
- SendUserFile, real surface: a one-off Playwright check on an owned
herdr pane with a Codex rollout containing a `SendUserFile` call (two
copies of the same path plus a caption). The work row shows the caption
and two `Open <path>` links, with no raw JSON and no React key warnings.
Clicking a link opens the file viewer with the file's contents.
- `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check full` on the branch after merging
`main` (5792d71, #755): integration and browser lanes `ok`.

### Test fixes found on the way

- `conversation-push.contract.test.ts`, "releases native interest when
the owned pane ends…": failed once on CI (timed out waiting for
`pty-exit`). The bridge accepts a `conversation-watch` as soon as an
attach is recorded, before the mirrored attachment is created. A pane
closed in between answers the attach with an error, not `pty-exit`.
Reproduced locally by delaying attachment creation by 2 s: the old test
failed the same way (12 s timeout), the fixed one passes. The test now
waits for the attach to join (the mirror's `pane-geometry`) before
closing the pane. Product behaviour is unchanged.
- Following CodeRabbit's review, the same suite now keeps its omp store
under a temporary `HOME`, as `server/omp.contract.test.ts` does, instead
of writing into the real `~/.omp/agent/sessions`.

`main` (5792d71, #755) is merged in; the only conflict was
`CHANGELOG.md`.

Closes #674

Supersedes #675

## Summary

Carry @phirschybar's deep-link implementation and commits into the
maintainer branch without changing their authorship. The address names
the PC, workspace (ID and readable slug), pane, lens, file, Settings
page/group, New workspace draft, and sidebar state; navigation opens
that place and keeps Back/Forward aligned with the app.

- Keep Settings history separate from pane navigation, including modal
keyboard focus.
- Resolve a missing pane to its workspace and an unknown PC to the local
PC with a header note.
- Keep the owning PC's IDs together. A positive browser scenario used
two fictional PCs with colliding pane IDs and selected the remote pane,
lens, Settings page, and remote API paths correctly.
- Fix a phone overflow found during QA: transient notes now use the
flexible header context and ellipsize, leaving the lens and More
controls visible. The new demo assertion fails before the fix (522px
header in a 390px viewport) and passes afterward.
- Merge main's #755 (`5792d71`) as `78bc591`, retaining both the settled
pane-lens behavior and deep-link landing/address/notification handling,
dialog prefill/draft fields, and both changelog entries.

## Review findings

- #675's CodeRabbit modal focus finding is fixed by the existing
`modalOpen()` guard in `PaneTerminal` (`d0eb538`) and covered by the
demo's Back-under-modal scenario.
- The suggestion to remove full changelog PR links is declined: the
maintainer instructions require full PR URLs and `by @login`
attribution. Separate commit `5b9759e` credits both #675 by @phirschybar
and #762 with full links.
- The phone header overflow found in manual QA is fixed in `b6ee541`
with a red/green browser regression and a matching DESIGN update. No CSS
tokens changed.
- #762's actionable CodeRabbit finding is fixed in `2b873ba`: the URL
writer waits for the selected PC's snapshot and runs again when it
arrives. A staged fetch/SSE test fails before the fix and passes after
it; owned-browser phone captures prove the original address remains
while the local roster is held, then changes to the local pane after
release. The thread is resolved.

## Verification

Post-merge checks first exercised `78bc591` or its identical resolved
content. Current head `2b873ba854c9797bec3c325e2669c6195ccc8916` also
includes the separate changelog credit and verified fallback-roster fix.
Deep-link, Settings, fast checks, owned-browser held/ready proof, and
both touched isolated regressions passed after the fix. All three
required GitHub checks are green on this head. No tests were disabled or
weakened. Herdr-backed runs used disposable sessions/configuration,
never the user's session.

| Command/scenario | Result |
| --- | --- |
| `bun run check fast` (initial branch) | PASS; verified report, exit 0
|
| `git archive origin/main` extracted into `/tmp/l8-main.508B4o`,
dependency symlink, copied `bun scripts/deep-link-demo-regression.ts` |
Expected FAIL on old main `7e12a89`: workspace-selection assertion timed
out at line 66. Archive removed and absence verified. The shell
wrapper's exit capture was malformed (wrapper exit 2); the actual
TimeoutError is captured independently. |
| `bun scripts/deep-link-demo-regression.ts` (before phone assertion) |
PASS |
| `bun scripts/settings-pages-demo-regression.ts` (before merge) | PASS
|
| `bun run check run --build bun scripts/ui-regression.ts` and `bun run
check run --build bun scripts/file-viewer-regression.ts` (initial 2-slot
admission) | NOT RUN: admission refused, exit 1. Both were subsequently
run successfully with `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8`. |
| `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check run --build bun
scripts/ui-regression.ts` (before merge) | PASS; includes exported
notification-startup and notification-view checks |
| `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check run --build bun
scripts/file-viewer-regression.ts` (before merge) | PASS |
| `bun scripts/deep-link-demo-regression.ts` with the added phone
assertion, before the App fix | Expected FAIL: header scrollWidth 522 >
viewport 390; More right edge 522.40625 |
| `bun scripts/deep-link-demo-regression.ts` and `bun
scripts/settings-pages-demo-regression.ts` after the phone fix | PASS |
| `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check fast` (superseded pre-merge run) |
INTERRUPTED, exit 130 to integrate newly merged main; typecheck/build
had passed. Not counted as a full PASS. |
| `git fetch origin && git merge origin/main` | PASS after resolving
App, NewSessionDialog, and CHANGELOG conflicts while preserving both
sides; merge commit `78bc591` |
| `bun run typecheck` on resolved merge content | PASS |
| `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test ./src/lib/deepLink.test.ts
./src/lib/paneLens.test.ts ./src/lib/i18n.test.ts` | PASS: 39 tests, 0
failures |
| `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check fast` (merged branch) | PASS: workflow
syntax, generated types, typecheck, build, unit tests; verified report
with unchanged source |
| `bun scripts/deep-link-demo-regression.ts` (merged branch) | PASS: all
12 assertions, including phone note containment and modal focus |
| `bun scripts/settings-pages-demo-regression.ts` (merged branch) |
PASS: English 390/320px, Korean/Japanese/Chinese 320px, page/section
navigation, Back/Forward and resize |
| `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check run --build bun
scripts/ui-regression.ts` (merged branch) | PASS: notification
startup/lens handling and #755 default-view cases, including a shell
retaining its terminal when an agent starts |
| `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check run --build bun
scripts/file-viewer-regression.ts` (merged branch) | PASS: viewer
reload, Back/Forward, nested Settings/Add PC/palette, phone/desktop,
file/folder URI and highlighting |
| Owned-browser fictional remote-PC link with colliding pane IDs | PASS:
`qa-box/w1E:p1`, `QA remote`, `Remote infra`, Chat, Terminal Settings;
closing Settings retains the PC/pane address. Remote
conversation/commands/prompt paths observed. This is fixture routing
proof, not a live remote attach claim. |
| Owned-browser More/Copy link and `?ws=w1C-infra&pane=w1C%3Ap1`,
dark/light, 1280x860 and 390x844 | PASS: eight screenshots inspected.
Phone header scroll/client widths both 390; note x60..232 and More
x338..378, without overlap. |
| LSP diagnostics | App and demo script clean before merge; merged
NewSessionDialog clean. App diagnostics subsequently hit an LSP
freshness timeout; both merged typecheck runs passed. |
| `bun scripts/deep-link-demo-regression.ts` with an explicitly held
local snapshot, before the review fix | Expected FAIL: the original
`machine=unregistered-PC` was replaced before roster delivery |
| `bun scripts/deep-link-demo-regression.ts` after the review fix |
PASS: all 13 assertions, including address preservation before release
and correct local pane afterward |
| `bun scripts/settings-pages-demo-regression.ts` after the review fix |
PASS |
| `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check fast` after the review fix | PASS:
verified unchanged working-tree source containing the guard and
regression; typecheck, build and units passed |
| Owned-browser phone held/ready fallback scenario | PASS: original
unknown-PC/pane address retained with no local pane, then local `w1C:p1`
and its address after explicit roster release; both screenshots
inspected |
| `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check run --build bun
scripts/ui-regression.ts` on `2b873ba` | PASS: verified unchanged
source; notification startup/lens, settled pane lens, modal and other UI
cases |
| `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check run --build bun
scripts/file-viewer-regression.ts` on `2b873ba` | PASS: verified
unchanged source |
| GitHub Integration and browser, first attempt on `2b873ba` | FAIL in
unchanged `scripts/chat-size-regression.ts`: Playwright
`clock.pauseAt(new Date())` reported `Cannot fast-forward to the past`.
No deep-link failure or source change in that script. |
| `gh run rerun 38103607171 --failed` | One authorized retry; PASS. No
test was weakened or skipped. |
| `gh pr checks 762` on `2b873ba` | PASS / exit 0: Fast checks,
Integration and browser, Native Windows install; Native macOS session
identity and CodeRabbit also pass |

Captured logs and verified check reports are in
`/tmp/lane-reports/l8-evidence/`. Each isolated run cleaned its
session/configuration; all owned browser profiles and loopback servers
were removed/stopped.
