feat(terminal): add cursor shape and blink to Settings - #731

Conversation
Issue devswha#620 asks for a saved cursor preference: today the terminal always start at a blinking block, with no setting for it. The issue's own comment give the exact xterm.js hook (term.options.cursorStyle, term.options.cursorBlink, applied live like theme and font already are, no remount needed). This add the smaller first version the issue itself allow: shape (block, bar, underline) and blink (on, off), saved per device. A program in the pane that sets its own cursor style with DECSCUSR can still change it after, same as today, since whether herdr's attach stream pass that sequence through is not established yet (the issue's own "not checked yet" note) and the "allow applications to override" toggle depend on it. sanitizeSettings gets new red-then-green tests for the two fields, and the three translation files get the new strings (checked by the existing i18n test, which fail on a missing or stale entry).

…758) ## Change Three maintainer-approved contributions to the terminal, carried onto current `main` in one PR because all three edit `src/components/PaneTerminal.tsx` and each conflicted with `main`. Each keeps its contributor as commit author (cherry-picked in order #731, #719, #713; the contributors' commit messages carry the full design notes). - **Cursor shape and blink in Settings → Terminal** (#731 by @bluzername): Block / Bar / Underline and a Blinking cursor switch, saved per device through `sanitizeSettings`, applied live through `term.options` (no remount). A program's own DECSCUSR can still change it. Strings in ko/ja/zh. - **A held key-bar arrow repeats like a held key** (#719 by @zerodice0): first repeat after 400 ms, then every 50 ms until release; only the four arrows (including saved arrow combinations and held modifiers) repeat; a tap still sends one key; a sideways swipe scrolls the row and sends nothing; a long press opens no callout. `PaneTerminal` passes a `holdScope` so a pane or lens change cancels a hold. New `scripts/key-bar-hold-repeat-regression.ts` is in the browser lane. - **Two-finger pinch changes the terminal font size on a phone** (#713 by @zerodice0): the font follows the fingers live (10–22 px) with a size badge, the shared pty gets one resize when a finger lifts, `touchcancel` restores the starting size. New `scripts/terminal-pinch-regression.ts` runs in `scripts/ui-regression.ts`. Conflict resolution only: the cursor props go on the `PaneTerminal` that `PaneCanvas` now renders, `holdScope` and the pinch badge sit on `main`'s current KeyBar line and terminal host, and `scripts/ci-browser.test.ts` expects 26 browser scripts. The review findings on the three PRs were CodeRabbit's missing changelog links; the changelog entries are added in a separate commit with both PR links and credit. After merging `main` (5792d71, #755; the only conflict was CHANGELOG, both sections kept): `bun run typecheck` PASS; settings, keyRepeat, pinchFontSize, i18n, motion, paneLens and ci-browser tests 94 pass, 0 fail; `CHECK_MAX_RUNS=8 bun run check run --build bun scripts/terminal-pinch-regression.ts`, `bun scripts/key-bar-hold-repeat-regression.ts` and `bun scripts/settings-pages-demo-regression.ts` PASS. --------- Co-authored-by: bluzername <bluzer@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: zerodice0 <zerodice0@gmail.com>

Thank you, @bluzername! Your change landed on main through #758, with you kept as the commit author and credited in the changelog. Closing this one as superseded by #758. |
What
Fixes #620, with the "smaller first version" the issue itself describe: shape and blink, without
the "allow applications to change it" toggle (that part need to measure first whether herdr's
attach stream even pass DECSCUSR through, which the issue's own "not checked yet" note says is not
established).
Today the terminal always start at a blinking block cursor (
cursorBlink: truewas the onlyoption set). This adds a saved preference under Settings -> Terminal:
A program in the pane that sets its own cursor appearance with DECSCUSR can still change it after,
exactly as before this setting existed.
How
Follow the issue's own comment almost exactly:
cursorStyleandcursorBlinkare set on the initialnew Terminal({...})call, then a newuseEffect(right beside the existing one that follow theme/palette) keep them in sync withthe settings on every change, through
term.options, with no remount - same pattern as thetheme effect already use.
terminalCursorStyle/terminalCursorBlinkare added toSettings,DEFAULT_SETTINGSandsanitizeSettings(src/lib/settings.ts), the same wayterminalWheelSpeedalready is: anunknown or wrong-type saved value falls back to the default instead of breaking the UI.
SettingsRowwithSegmented(shape) andToggle(blink) under Terminal settings, and the needed ko/ja/zh translations (checked by
i18n.test.ts, which fails on a missing orstale entry).
Test plan
bun run typecheckbun run buildbun run test:unit(newsettings.test.tscase written red first, green after;i18n.test.tsconfirms every new string is translated in all three languages and nothing is stale)
follow without reload (I could not run this myself, no herdr binary in this environment, so I
kept the change to the same pattern the existing theme-follow effect already uses and proved
with tests at the settings layer)
