We still preserve the preview for variant though probably at some point we should remove supporting that in Kernel. Another change that is made is that when shredding is enabled, variant is automatically enabled by making it a required dependent feature. Furthermore, since this change is about enabling metadata write support in Kernel we block physical writes when there's a variant in Transaction#transformLogicalData similar to how kernel blocks writes on table for column mapping but allows metadata writes. ## How was this patch tested? <!-- If tests were added, say they were added here. …sing (delta-io#5239) As noted in the discussion in [issue 126](delta-io#126), Delta does not permit multiple columns whose names differ only by letter case. Quoting @brkyvz: ``` Delta doesn't support column names that only differ by case. This was a conscious design decision as we've seen too many bugs around data corruption caused because people don't use the right case when they are querying or saving their data. ``` The same discussion mentions that this restriction was intended to be formalized in the protocol, but that change had not yet been added. My intention with this code change is to make this clarification official.

This was a legacy optimization -- in the future, we don't plan to have a persisted `Table` that holds on to cached information like previous snapshots. That should be done by the connector. While cleaning up SnapshotHint, I realized that we could significatintly simplify our CRCInfo logic and caching in LogReplay. I also noticed a bug where we were treating `Optional<CRCInfo>` as both (a) we have never checked to load the crcInfo at this version, and (b) there is no CRC info at this version. I've fixed that here by just using a `Lazy<Optional<CRCInfo>>` ## How was this patch tested? Just a refactor. Existing UTs. ## Does this PR introduce _any_ user-facing changes? No.

If this PR resolves an issue be sure to include "Resolves #XXX" to correctly link and close the issue upon merge. --> 1. Correctly, the apply function is the only valid code path to construct a DeltaTableV2. To avoid undefined behaviors, we make the default ctor of the DeltaTableV2 private. The only usage of the default ctor elsewhere is to provide a custom clock into the delta log, which we now make a custom helper function to cover that purpose. 2. A test-only change. In the vacuum suite, the delta log cache was cleared and delta log was accessed to make sure it was created with the manual testing clock. We want to move this before the construction of DeltaTableV2 to make sure it covers the delta log in DeltaTableV2. 3. Minor redirect fix. Currently, the redirect code in `DeltaTableV2.apply` calls `deltaTable.copy` regardless of whether there is redirection or not. A small refactor is done to avoid the cost of copying when there is no redirections. ## How was this patch tested? Existing UTs. <!-- If tests were added, say they were added here. The reason for this change is: - catalog commits are different file types than published deltas. they have a different name (when as a file) and take priority over published deltas - Note then that there is the type (catalog commit, published delta, crc, checkpoint, etc.) and then there is "where are the bytes?" --> which is either in a file or inline. Refactor existing codes. ## How was this patch tested? Mainly just a refactor. Updated a few tests. Added some new UTs. ## Does this PR introduce _any_ user-facing changes? No.
