inactive-endpoint handshake and up to 120 seconds of supervisor reconnect
backoff, and increase REMOTE_INPUT_TIMEOUT to cover the cumulative deadlines for
PendingEndpointActivation phases and rollback. Alternatively, replace these
fixed waits with explicit readiness and activation completion signals.

The client_mode::federated_client_starts_without_local_and_survives_its_restart integration test fails intermittently on the ubuntu (and macos) runners at two polling budgets: - "remote must be usable before Local exists" - "remote reconnect N must restore visible input and preserve the shell" Both budgets are shorter than the client's own connection and activation deadlines. Saved-SSH discovery probes are bounded by a 15s SSH command timeout, the remote handshake read timeout is 60s, and each endpoint activation phase has a 5s deadline that can retry. Under a loaded runner the client can still be legitimately connecting, or holding pane input closed through an activation retry, when the test gives up. Give the remote-readiness and remote-input waits budgets that exceed those deadlines. The waits still return as soon as the observed condition holds, so only the failure path gets slower. The intentionally tight waits that prove Local does not wait for a stalled remote stay at 3s.

Keep our fork features (federation, gram, api-bridge, guest, push, notifications, agent archive/forget/transfer, accounts, staged updates) alongside upstream's v0.9.4, v0.9.5 and unreleased fixes. Most source conflicts keep our fork's Method enum (upstream's define_operations! macro cannot express our cfg-gated and serde-skipped variants). Detection manifests keep our extra rules; Codex integration scripts switch to upstream's canonical version. Upstream highlights: - Persistent macOS/Linux server (SIGHUP no longer stops it) - Session saves on system shutdown/restart - Plugin update command - Keyboard/IME fixes (non-Latin layouts, Ctrl+Shift, accents) - Windows improvements (PowerShell 7 default, clipboard, notifications) - SSH compression and bandwidth improvements - Performance fixes (CPU, memory, hidden pane improvements) - Codex, Claude Code, Pi, Antigravity, Grok detection updates - New platform modules (launchd spawn, power/shutdown) - Vendor patches (libghostty-vt cursor hyperlink, portable-pty Windows dir) refs herdrdev#5310, herdrdev#5278, herdrdev#5236, herdrdev#5303, herdrdev#5308, herdrdev#5275, herdrdev#5280, herdrdev#5282, herdrdev#5277, herdrdev#5276, herdrdev#5270, herdrdev#5269, herdrdev#5252, herdrdev#5249, herdrdev#5247, herdrdev#5241, herdrdev#5242, herdrdev#5192, herdrdev#5232, herdrdev#5212, herdrdev#5174, herdrdev#5173, herdrdev#5171, herdrdev#5092

Problem
client_mode::federated_client_starts_without_local_and_survives_its_restartis therecurring
client_modefailure on the ubuntu (and macos) runners. It has failed atleast five times since late September:
remote must be usable before Local exists(12s budget)remote reconnect 2 must restore visible input and preserve the shellremote reconnect 3 must restore visible input and preserve the shellremote reconnect 3 must restore visible input and preserve the shellremote reconnect 2 must restore visible input and preserve the shellRoot cause
Every failure is a
wait_untiltimeout in the test, not an incorrect client state. The two budgets that keep expiring are shorter than the client's own connection
and activation deadlines:
(
NONINTERACTIVE_SSH_COMMAND_TIMEOUT), and the endpoint handshake read timeoutis 60s (
REMOTE_HANDSHAKE_READ_TIMEOUT);ACTIVATION_TIMEOUT)and can roll back and retry, during which pane input stays frozen.
On a loaded runner the client can still be legitimately connecting, or still
holding input closed through an activation retry, when the test gives up. The
reconnect screen assertion (15s) never fails — only the shorter input (8s) and
initial-connect (12s) budgets do.
Fix
Give the remote-readiness and remote-input waits budgets that exceed the
client's own deadlines:
wait_untilstill returns as soon as its condition holds, so only the failurepath gets slower. The intentionally tight 3s waits that prove Local does not
wait for a stalled remote are unchanged.
Validation
cargo fmt --checkpasses.cargo check --tests --lockedpasses (native Windows; the pre-commitjust lintalso passed).tests/client_mode.rsis#![cfg(unix)], so the unix compile and test run arecovered by the ubuntu/macos CI jobs on this PR.
