fix(pi): explain when Pi's default model has no credentials - #27513
Pi's provider status treated "Pi lists any model" as fully authenticated. If Pi's launch arguments pin a model whose provider has no credentials (for example --model openai/gpt-5 with only an Anthropic key), T3 showed Pi as ready while every turn on "Pi default" failed, with nothing explaining why.
Status now checks Pi's own verdict. Pi's RPC get_available_models lists only models of providers it holds credentials for, including extension providers, virtual models, models.json providers and a runtime --api-key. When Pi lists no model of the active model's provider, the status carries a message naming the model and provider. On Pi 0.84.1+ (without --api-key in the launch arguments), T3 also runs pi auth check --provider <id> --json --no-refresh to say whether credentials are missing. That command neither refreshes nor prints credentials, and it cannot see extensions, so it only refines Pi's own verdict. Older Pi (0.80.5+) gets a generic message pointing at the launch arguments.
Pi stays ready and authenticated in this case. A warning status would hide every Pi model in the picker, although models other than the default still work. Select Pi in provider settings to read the diagnostic in its existing detail view. The compact web provider list keeps its ready summary and does not show this diagnostic inline. The check runs per provider, matching Pi's own turn gate, so an uncatalogued model id of a provider with credentials gets no message. Readiness here is not a proven model call.
Out of scope: a T3 custom model whose provider lacks credentials still fails only when the turn starts (adapter work), and there is no in-app Pi login.
Proof
status.test.ts: 12 cases pass. Against main's status.ts, the 4 new message cases fail (missing credentials, a runtime --api-key, an auth check reporting provider_not_found, and Pi older than 0.84.1). The uncatalogued-id and extension-model rows pass on both. The fake process pins the exact auth check arguments, including --no-refresh, and fails the test if the check runs when it should not.
Real Pi 1.4.0 and 0.80.5, isolated profiles, fake keys, head vs main: the only difference is the pinned model whose provider has no credentials. That case now says "has no credentials configured for openai" on 1.4.0 and gives the generic launch-arguments message on 0.80.5. These cases are unchanged and show no message: --api-key, a saved default that Pi falls back from, an extension provider, extension-supplied OpenAI auth, the virtual model router/auto (on 1.4.0), the local models.json model ollama, and an uncatalogued model id.
Real Pi 0.84.0 never runs auth check, and 0.84.1 runs it exactly once.
A wrapper pi returned malformed, empty and schema-invalid JSON, or failed outright. Each case falls back to the generic message and Pi stays ready. A hanging auth check times out after about 4 s, and its process is gone afterwards.
vp run check:changed pingdotgg/main passes. Local cubic review: 0 issues.
Unproven: no UI capture, since no client code changed. The existing settings detail renders message.
Pi's status treated any available model as fully ready, so a Pi default
pinned by launch args to a provider without credentials looked ready
while every turn on it failed. Status now checks Pi's active model
against Pi's own auth-filtered model list, and on Pi 0.84.1+ asks
`pi auth check --no-refresh` whether credentials are missing.

A warning status makes clients hide every Pi model, although models
other than the default still work. Keep Pi ready and report the
default model's problem as the status message.

`pi auth check` cannot see a runtime --api-key, so its missing-credentials
answer would be wrong there. The test fixture now also pins the exact
auth check arguments, including --no-refresh.

Pi starts a turn when the active model's provider has credentials, so
an uncatalogued model id of such a provider still works. Warn only when
Pi lists no model of that provider, and point the generic message at
the Pi launch arguments, the only way to pin such a model.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Adds clearer guidance when Pi's default model lacks an available provider, while keeping other models usable. The diagnostic probe is version-gated, time-limited and non-refreshing; model defaults and authentication behavior remain unchanged.

Walkthrough
Pi status discovery now retains active model identity when inventory does not include it. For eligible Pi versions, status reporting checks provider credentials unless a runtime API key is supplied, then reports a credential-specific or general unavailable-model message. Readiness and authentication status still depend on discovered models.

Status reporting selects the no-usable-models message or describes an unavailable active model. For eligible Pi versions, it checks provider authentication and reports missing credentials only when the response identifies credentials_not_configured. Tests cover pinned, uncatalogued, and extension models, plus API-key and version cases.

Explanation
The title "fix(pi): explain when Pi's default model has no credentials" follows conventional commit format and names the main change. The PR adds a status message when Pi's active model has a provider with no credentials, and the summary confirms this. The title is specific and accurate, so it passes.
