Change

OmO tells its agent that a background task ended with a custom_message (customType: "omo-senpi:wake", display: false) whose details hold one senpi-task.completion per task (status, agent, model, duration_ms, run_stats, final_response). parseOmpTranscript dropped every display: false custom message, so in an OmO pane's chat:

  • nothing showed when a background task ended, and what the agent did after the wake ran on in the same work block as if nothing had come in;
  • the task row read the call's short description instead of the task_summary it gave the person;
  • opening a batch task call showed a checklist of unticked "task 1", "task 2" (the generic tasks checklist renderer), and a single call showed its raw JSON.

This PR:

  • server (server/transcript-records.ts): omoTaskResults turns a wake into a user-seat task_result part, like gjc's notice; a wake that carries no task result (a monitor's event) stays hidden. Each task gets its title from the task call's result (details.task_id / details.items[] → task_summary), else its name, else its agent. The answer is cut at 16,000 characters (result_cut). server/conversation.ts keeps the titles in SettledTurns, so a task that ends a prompt after the one that started it is still named on the live page, exactly as on a cold read.
  • protocol (shared/protocol.ts): new ConversationPart { kind: "task_result"; tasks: OmoTaskResult[] }.
  • client (ChatView.tsx/.css): one card per wake ("2 background tasks ended · time"), a row per task with the status icon and word (done / failed / cancelled, in the status colors), the summary, and agent · model · duration · turns · tool calls · tokens; the answer opens as Markdown, indented to the title and bounded to 60vh. Bare section-tag lines OmO's agents frame answers with (<analysis>, </results>, <next_steps>) read as bold section names (taskResultMarkdown), never inside code blocks.
  • toolSummary reads a task call's task_summary (joined for a batch); opened, the row lists the tasks it starts with their agent pill and prompt (taskCallItems, also omp's agent + description/assignment).
  • Demo: the OmO pane ("Proofread the guide") now shows a batch task call and two ended tasks (one done, one failed). DESIGN.md and CHANGELOG updated; ko/ja/zh strings added.

Validation

  • bun run generate:types --check: up to date
  • bun run typecheck: pass
  • bun run build: pass
  • bun run test:unit: 1294 pass, 14 fail. The 14 (server/codex-processes.test.ts ×13, server/pi.test.ts ×1) fail identically on the unchanged base on macOS (/var vs /private/var temp paths); none touch this change.
  • New tests: server/conversation.test.ts "OmO background task results" (a wake with four completions: titled from a single and a batch call, error → failed, a fallback title, a cut result; a wake without a task result stays hidden; the task row's summary) and "titles a background task that ends a prompt after the one that started it, live and cold alike". Both fail when the parse is reverted, and the second fails when the titles are not kept across stretches. src/lib/omoTasks.test.ts: taskCallItems (OmO single/batch, omp batch) and taskResultMarkdown.
  • Manual, real OmO session (omo 5.1.19, herdr 0.9.3, macOS): a branch server on another port read a live OmO pane whose explore background task had ended. GET /api/pane/conversation returned one task_result turn with the task's summary, completed, 58s, 6 turns, 14 tool calls, 210k tokens; the chat drew the card, and its answer opened with the section names, at 1440px and at 390px. The screenshots above come from the demo instead.

Not verified: iPhone Safari itself (phone width checked in desktop Chrome); a wake carrying a cancelled task from a real session (only completed and error appear in the local session records; cancelled/aborted map to cancelled by name). Running tasks in the background-task list still show no turns or tool calls until they end, because OmO writes run_stats to the task record only then; that is unchanged here.

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to ed7f4

This update only changes the changelog. An earlier concern that task-result answer text containing code fences could be altered when displayed remains open, and it is a minor display issue to settle before or soon after merge.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 5fbfb

Background-task answers become visible to existing conversation viewers. Existing access checks and safe text-rendering controls remain in place. The remaining uncertainty is whether incoming completions always belong to the selected conversation and how repeated completion events are handled.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • observed — Clients granted conversation-read access, including watch-role clients and authorized bridge clients, can now receive recognized completion answers. The existing access decision still governs the endpoint; the PR does not change those access-policy files.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Existing transcript selection validates canonical store paths and session headers, rejects ambiguous or peer-claimed candidates, and resolves the requested pane before reading. Within that transcript, completion parsing checks record types and task identity/status but does not independently validate parent-session ownership.
  • observed — Completion text uses the existing Markdown renderer, which produces React text/elements rather than raw HTML and restricts link destinations to HTTP, HTTPS or mailto. Task-specific formatting does not introduce a separate executable-content sink.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Make producer-side session ownership, task-ID uniqueness and replay semantics explicit at the completion boundary. If cross-session completion entries are possible, validate their ownership before displaying answers rather than relying solely on transcript placement.

…ts result

OmO reports a background task's end to its agent as a custom_message
(omo-senpi:wake, display:false) carrying one senpi-task.completion per
task. The transcript parser dropped it, so the chat showed nothing when
a task ended and the agent's next work ran on in the same block.

- server: parse the wake into a user-seat task_result part (title from
the task call's task_summary, status, agent, model, duration, turns,
tool calls, tokens, result cut at 16,000 characters); the newest page
keeps the titles across its stretches, so a task that ends a prompt
  later is still named.
- client: a card per wake, one row per task, its answer as Markdown on
request (bare section tags such as <analysis> read as section names).
- the task row reads the call's task_summary, and opened lists the tasks
it starts with agent and prompt instead of raw JSON or a "task 1"
  checklist.
- demo: the OmO pane shows a task call and two ended tasks.

…d polls, and reported once

Review findings on devswha#477 (adversarial pass), fixed as maintainer commits:

- ChatView: a task result's answer is mounted when its row is opened, not
with the card. A wake can carry many tasks with answers up to 16,000
characters each, and every closed row used to mount its Markdown at once.
- conversation.ts: a newest page that starts past the turn that started a
task inherits the titles the earlier pages of the same stream learned, so
the title survives the page advancing while the file is watched. The live
turn is parsed with a copy of the title map: what it teaches is kept only
once it settles, so a wake read before the call that names its task is
titled the same on every poll and as a cold read of the same bytes.
- transcript-records.ts: a task reported twice in one wake is one row (the
later report), so the count is right and the rows' keys are unique.
- omoTasks.ts: a fence opens after up to three spaces only, as the chat's
Markdown reads it; a tab-indented fence line is text to both.

Tests: a duplicate report, the page advance, the out-of-order wake and the
tabbed fence; each fails on the previous head.

Owner

Thanks, this reads well and the real-session check is appreciated. Maintainer review done; CI on ed7f40d was green. I pushed one fix commit (3dce167) and merged main in, from an adversarial pass over the parser and the card:

  • Rendering volume. Every closed task row mounted its Markdown with the card; a wake with many tasks and long answers rendered them all at once. The answer is now mounted when the row is opened (and kept after that).
  • Titles across pages. When the newest page start moved past the turn that started a task, its completion lost its title (the fresh page had an empty title map). A new page now inherits the titles earlier pages of the same stream learned, so the title survives while the file is watched. A cold read of such a page still cannot know it; that limit stays.
  • Live versus cold on an out-of-order wake. The live tail is parsed on every poll with the persistent title map, so a wake that preceded the call naming its task was untitled on the first read and titled on the next, while a cold read stayed untitled. The live tail now parses with a copy of the map; titles are kept once the turn settles.
  • Duplicate ids in one wake made two rows with the same React key and a count of two. One row per id now, the later report wins.
  • Fence opener. taskResultMarkdown accepted \s{0,3} before the backticks where lib/markdown.ts accepts spaces only, so a tab-indented fence line toggled the state differently from the chat and a later <results> inside a real code block was rewritten. Spaces only now.

Each has a test that fails on ed7f40d. Not changed: a completion whose status is outside the known set (e.g. running) still reads as failed; a senpi-task.completion is terminal by definition, so I left that as is.

Merging once CI on the new head is green.

…rompt that started it (#498)

## Summary

#477's "keeps a task's title when the newest page moves past the turn
that started it, while the file is watched" fails on macOS. On Linux CI
it passes, but only by accident, so the feature it describes never
worked.

`liveTurns` passes titles on from an earlier page only when that page
ended at or before the new page start (`kept.end <= start`). The page
that held the spawning turn always runs past that start: it is extended
to the newest turn start on every poll. So nothing was ever passed on.

On Linux the test passed anyway because of the test that runs before it.
That test writes a file starting with the same two lines, the "start it"
prompt and the "Survey the repo" spawn of `st_1`, and its settled page
ends exactly where this test's second turn begins. `afterEach` deletes
the file, and ext4/tmpfs hands its inode to the next temp file, so the
stream id (`dev-ino`) matches. The filter looked across all paths, so it
took that dead file's titles. APFS does not reuse inodes, which is why
macOS failed the test.

The same cross-path lookup is also a real bug on Linux. A transcript
that takes over a deleted one's inode can inherit that transcript's
titles for task ids it shares. OmO ids like `st_1` repeat across
sessions.

## Change

- A new page takes the **nearest earlier page of the same file**
(settled keys are `path\0start`). If that page ran past the new start,
its turns before the start are parsed again, starting from the titles
that page itself began with (`inherited`). That is usually one turn,
since the page moves one prompt at a time. If the earlier page ended at
or before the start, its titles are used as before.
- Pages of other paths no longer count.

## Tests

- The existing test now tests what it says on every OS. A new helper
`pollPastFirstTurn` is shared by both tests.
- New test "never titles a task from another file that had the same
inode". It uses a hard link rewritten in place to reproduce Linux inode
reuse on any system: a file that takes over another's inode must title
`st_1` as a cold read does (`explore`).
- On the old code, both tests fail on macOS. On the new code both pass,
and the full unit suite passes on macOS: 1386 pass, 0 fail (`bun
scripts/ci-tests.ts unit`, Bun 1.4.2).
- `bun run typecheck` passes.

## Maintainer review

A further regression now covers a whole page of prompts arriving between
polls. Titles from the last observed live turn are preserved too; replay
is bounded to bytes already observed, rather than scanning all skipped
history. Transcript-page tests clear module caches between cases. All 48
conversation tests and the complete macOS unit suite pass (1,402 pass,
24 skipped), along with typecheck.
