fix(chat): an OmO task keeps its title once the page moves past the prompt that started it - #498
Conversation
…rompt that started it liveTurns looked for an earlier page that ended at or before the new page start, but the page that held the spawning turn always runs past it, so the title was never passed on. The test passed on Linux only because the test before it left a settled page whose stream id (dev and inode) the next temp file reused, ending exactly at this file's second turn; APFS does not reuse inodes, so macOS failed it. A new page now takes the nearest earlier page of the same file and reads that page's turns before its start again, from the titles that page began with. Pages of other paths no longer count, so a file that takes over a deleted transcript's inode never inherits its titles. 🤖 Assisted by kilhyeonjun-harness

Reviewed the nearest-earlier-page selection, same-path filtering and inherited title map. The change preserves titles when the page overlaps the new start while refusing another path that reuses the inode. Added cache cleanup between transcript-page tests so earlier cases cannot make the regressions pass accidentally. All 47 conversation tests pass; the full macOS unit suite passes (1,401 passed, 24 skipped), as do typecheck, generated types and the build on Bun 1.4.2. No remaining blocking finding; merge remains gated by required CI.

Final review includes an additional reproduced polling-gap bug: if more than a page of prompts arrives between reads, the last previously observed live turn also has to contribute its task titles. The fix replays only the already observed bytes, preserving bounded reads even if a large amount of unseen history arrived meanwhile. The new regression fails without this fix. All 48 conversation tests, typecheck and the full macOS unit suite (1,402 pass, 24 skip, zero failures) pass. Cross-path inode isolation and cache cleanup between tests remain covered. No remaining blocking finding; required CI must pass for d28f92c.
## Summary Since #484 the unit and integration suites run on macOS. `scripts/ui-regression.ts` still stopped there at "terminal Control+v", and past that step at more places. This makes the browser regressions pass on a Mac. On Linux nothing changes in what they check. ## Change - **Mod is Cmd on a Mac.** App shortcuts (Settings, the command palette, next/previous pane) were pressed as `Control+Shift+…`, which the app reads as nothing on macOS. They are pressed with Playwright's `ControlOrMeta` now, in `ui-regression.ts` and the default-view, push-settings, terminal-input and wake-lock checks. - **Paste.** Chrome on macOS pastes with ⌘V. Its Ctrl+V pastes nothing; Playwright maps it to `pageDown:`. So the paste check waited forever. On macOS it pastes with `Meta+v`, as `terminal-file-input-regression.ts` already does, and checks that Ctrl+V still sends nothing (no 0x16). The Ctrl+Shift+V plain-text chord has no macOS equivalent in Chrome and stays Linux-only. - **Language.** Chrome on macOS takes `navigator.languages` from the system, so a Korean Mac read Settings in Korean and `getByRole(…, { name: "Keep screen on" })` found nothing. The browser is launched with `--accept-lang=en-US`; contexts that set `locale` still override it. - **The test herdr's shell.** `test-herdr.ts` already keeps the user's `HERDR_*`/agent variables out of the test session. A pane's zsh still read the user's own rc files. On the Mac this was verified on, those started a shell integration (`kiro-cli`), which herdr took for a Kiro agent. When it exited, herdr ended the agent a test had just reported, so `seen(pane, "working")` in the droplet and alert-sound checks never came. The rc files also set a `user@host` terminal title that renamed "Tab 1" in the mobile tab strip. The server now starts with an empty `ZDOTDIR` next to its socket. bash, as on CI, is untouched. ## Verification (macOS 26.6.2 arm64, Chrome 154, herdr 0.9.2, Bun 1.4.2) - Before, on upstream `main`: `bun scripts/ui-regression.ts` stops at `terminal Control+v`. - With the shortcut, paste and language changes only: 2 of 8 full runs passed. The others timed out in droplet or alert-sound waiting for a reported `working`, or in mobile tabs looking for "Tab 1". herdr's own log showed why: `agent changed ... agent=Some(Kiro) process=kiro-cli`, then `agent=None`, and `tab.rename` requests the tests never sent. At the moment of the timeout, `pane.get` answered `agent_status: unknown` for the pane the check had just reported `working`. - With the empty `ZDOTDIR` as well: 3 of 3 full runs passed, with all 75 `PASS` lines each. After the server restart, its log has no agent detection and no tab rename. - `bun run typecheck` passes. The unit suite is unaffected; 1386 pass on macOS together with #498. 🤖 Assisted by [kilhyeonjun-harness](https://github.com/kilhyeonjun/kilhyeonjun-harness) ## Maintainer validation On the current main base, the macOS fixes pass the paste and shortcut steps. Two full runs then exposed an independent alert-sound fixture race: a roster snapshot could show the newly created pane working before the collector had subscribed to its status. The test now observes the existing SSE stream and waits for a real working status event from an owned fixture pane before checking alerts. No application behavior or extra status subscription is added. The targeted sound regression and a complete macOS UI run now pass, with 76 PASS checks. --------- Co-authored-by: e2e <e2e@example.com>
Summary
#477's "keeps a task's title when the newest page moves past the turn that started it, while the file is watched" fails on macOS. On Linux CI it passes, but only by accident, so the feature it describes never worked.
liveTurnspasses titles on from an earlier page only when that page ended at or before the new page start (kept.end <= start). The page that held the spawning turn always runs past that start: it is extended to the newest turn start on every poll. So nothing was ever passed on.On Linux the test passed anyway because of the test that runs before it. That test writes a file starting with the same two lines, the "start it" prompt and the "Survey the repo" spawn of
st_1, and its settled page ends exactly where this test's second turn begins.afterEachdeletes the file, and ext4/tmpfs hands its inode to the next temp file, so the stream id (dev-ino) matches. The filter looked across all paths, so it took that dead file's titles. APFS does not reuse inodes, which is why macOS failed the test. The same cross-path lookup is also a real bug on Linux. A transcript that takes over a deleted one's inode can inherit that transcript's titles for task ids it shares. OmO ids like
st_1repeat across sessions.Change
path\0start). If that page ran past the new start, its turns before the start are parsed again, starting from the titles that page itself began with (inherited). That is usually one turn, since the page moves one prompt at a time. If the earlier page ended at or before the start, its titles are used as before.Tests

Maintainer review
A further regression now covers a whole page of prompts arriving between polls. Titles from the last observed live turn are preserved too; replay is bounded to bytes already observed, rather than scanning all skipped history. Transcript-page tests clear module caches between cases. All 48 conversation tests and the complete macOS unit suite pass (1,402 pass, 24 skipped), along with typecheck.
