Change

Ctrl+Enter 0d 1b 5b 32 37 3b 35 3b 31 33 7e 0d
Enter 0d 0d 0d
Shift+Enter 1b 0d 1b 0d 1b 0d
Alt+Enter 1b 0d 1b 0d 1b 0d

Enter "\r" 메시지가 대기열에 남고(ctrl+enter to send now 안내), 300까지 다 센 뒤에 BANANA

Validation

Linux(WSL), herdr 0.9.3, Bun 1.4.2, Chrome(/opt/google/chrome/chrome)

  • bun run generate:types --check: 통과

    • server/api.contract.test.ts의 "applies a resize that arrives while a covered attach is still creating the pty"는 15초 대기 타임아웃이었습니다.
    • server/codex-binding.contract.test.ts는 "no codex process"였고, 파일을 따로 돌리면 8건이 모두 통과합니다.
  • bun scripts/ui-regression.ts: 전체 통과(PASS 72).

    • Enter·Shift+Enter·Alt+Enter
    • 조합 중인 Enter(isComposing, keyCode 229)는 바꾸지 않고, 대기 중인 IME 글자 한이 먼저 나감

xterm.js 5.5는 modifyOtherKeys(CSI > 4 ; 2 m)를 무시하고 Ctrl+Enter를 CR로
보내서, Claude Code의 Ctrl+Enter(대기 중인 메시지 바로 보내기)가 Enter로

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Ctrl+Enter now uses the terminal’s requested key protocol, while continuing to send Enter when no protocol is enabled.
    • Terminals opened after the protocol was enabled now receive the correct setting, so Ctrl+Enter works consistently for late joiners.
    • Ctrl+Enter returns to sending Enter when the terminal disables the protocol.

Walkthrough

PaneTerminal now tracks the terminal program’s modifyOtherKeys level and uses it to encode Ctrl+Enter. ReplayBuffer preserves an active level for later attachments. Unit and browser regression checks cover the key handling and replay behavior.

Changes

Ctrl+Enter terminal handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Track modifyOtherKeys and map Enter keys
src/lib/keys.ts, src/lib/keys.test.ts, src/components/PaneTerminal.tsx
Key helpers parse modifyOtherKeys requests and return the Ctrl+Enter sequence when enabled. PaneTerminal tracks the level, maps eligible Ctrl+Enter and Shift+Enter input, and resets state during cleanup and pane changes.
Replay modifyOtherKeys state for late attachments
server/output-window.ts, server/output-window.test.ts
ReplayBuffer remembers switches found before its retained tail and prepends the active level when replaying text. Tests cover disable forms, unrelated sequences, and a request split at the tail cut.
Exercise and document Ctrl+Enter behavior
scripts/terminal-ctrl-enter-regression.ts, scripts/ui-regression.ts, CHANGELOG.md
The browser regression checks Ctrl+Enter behavior across modifyOtherKeys states, other Enter combinations, and IME input. The UI regression runs the check, and the changelog records the behavior.

Change: Bug fix

Suggested reviewers: devswha

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to b3601

Ctrl+Enter may still send the modified sequence after a program resets keyboard modes with a bare reset sequence. This is a narrow edge case, and the rest of the change looks sound.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to b3601

The change preserves a terminal program’s keyboard mode across later connections. Input restrictions remain in place, and no new security issue was identified. Some interrupted-output and reconnection behavior remains unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — A party able to emit pane output can influence Ctrl+Enter encoding for clients viewing that pane, including late joiners. The inspected flow does not give that mode flag authority over other panes, credentials or deployment configuration.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — The new output-derived flag does not itself submit input: conversion requires an eligible Ctrl+Enter event and produces a fixed sequence through the existing input gates. No introduced or worsened security attack path was established within the inspected scope.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Each attachment owns its replay buffer. Output forwarding checks attachment identity before appending, closing removes the attachment before terminating its PTY, and replay is delivered only to newly joined clients rather than repeated for an idempotent attach.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Output completion checks pane ownership and connection generation before updating UI state, but the mode parser mutates its ref during parsing, before that completion check. Available source therefore does not establish that queued pre-reset output cannot restore an obsolete mode. Terminal handoff also retains the attachment, making final mode reconstruction dependent on the replacement stream.

…'s queued output cannot set it

Maintainer follow-up on devswha#471 from a Codex review, both verified in code:
- xterm resets every key-modifier resource on a parameterless CSI > m or CSI > n.
The client helper kept the level (xterm.js reports the bare form as [0]) and the
server's replay scanner did not match it, so a program that reset that way left
Ctrl+Enter typing CSI 27;5;13~ into the shell that followed. Both layers now
read it as off; an explicit CSI > 0 m (another resource) in the replay stays
ignored, and the client takes [0] as off too since it cannot tell the two apart.
- term.write is asynchronous and term.reset() keeps queued writes: output of a
pane left behind, parsed after the switch had zeroed the level, set it again.
  The write callback that already drops such output now zeroes the level as well;
writes are parsed in order, so no newer output has been read at that point.
- CHANGELOG: the entry names the surfaces it covers (the live terminal's own keys;
a phone's input line and a Windows mirror pane send Enter as before).
