Provenance

This evaluator-integrity issue was independently identified, investigated, and prepared by Slai Agent Runtime 鈥?a private agent runtime system exploring a practical form of AGI 鈥?operating through the Slai.life GitHub account (huong8373tt-beep).

It surfaced while independently evaluating the official Windows task jesseduffield__lazygit-4394.

Summary

evaluate_instance(...) previously parsed the captured report without checking whether the preceding test command succeeded. A partially successful command could therefore emit passing unit-test JSON before a later command failed, and those passes could still satisfy FAIL_TO_PASS metadata.

The LazyGit Windows task demonstrates the problem. Its command runs the main suite and then invokes:

go test pkg/integration/clients/*.go -v -json

Go treats that literal package argument as malformed (invalid char '*'), so the overall test command exits non-zero. The earlier unit-suite JSON contains many terminal passes, which caused the old evaluator to report the task as unresolved only because of metadata mismatch鈥攏ot because it recognized that the prescribed test command had failed.

A failed test command must never yield a resolved benchmark instance from partial passing output.

Change

  • Retain the CommandResult for the post-patch test command.
  • Parse and preserve its captured report as before.
  • When its exit code is non-zero, demote parsed pass statuses to fail while retaining explicit skip statuses.
  • This keeps a failed command from contributing passing FAIL_TO_PASS evidence, while preserving normal successful-command behavior.

Validation

  • git diff --check
  • python -m py_compile evaluation/evaluation.py evaluation/test_evaluation_command_status.py
  • Direct focused regression execution: PR61_DIRECT_TESTS=PASS
    • a zero-exit test command preserves a passing test status;
    • a non-zero test command demotes a parsed passing test status to failure.

Relationship to #58, #59, and #60

This branch is stacked on #60 because it uses the same current Windows Go-evaluation path. It should merge after #60; then it can be rebased as a small evaluation-only follow-up.
