Summary

  • ocx models omitted IDs that the router knows from registry seeds, local hints, process-local discovery cache, and custom models. List those IDs alongside saved models while retaining default-first ordering and deduplicating per provider. Metadata follows effective provider policy, including context caps and native custom-model limits.
  • Learned refusals are applied to custom reasoning ladders after native bounds, retaining the runtime fallback when every rung was refused. Passive local listings do not open the OS keychain: where credential-scoped refusals cannot be observed safely, the reasoning ladder is unknown and models live exposes the running catalog.
  • Human output renders model identifiers safely; JSON retains the original decoded identifiers. Local context projection honors configured caps, Azure metadata, optional vendor inference and custom-row precedence; Azure modality hints remain below explicit restrictions.
  • Listing does not start discovery or refresh stale reasoning metadata. Cache data belongs to the CLI process, so ocx models live remains the way to inspect the running proxy's catalog.
  • Expand scope to the backward-compatible refreshMetadata option in src/reasoning-effort.ts for offline listing. Existing callers retain refresh behavior. Update the CLI reference, capability registry, generated operating reference, and structure documentation.
  • Local listings skip shim repair before dispatch and opt into a read-only diagnostic for retired providers; other passive reads remain silent. This requires the narrow optional callback in src/lib/passive-read.ts and its consumer in src/config/removed-opencode-free-backup.ts; the configuration architecture reference is updated. CLI help and translated references describe the same process-local scope.
  • Reference: OpenAI Models API and LLM listing models.

Verification

  • Local head ec43aca802 (base 3b23d46e7d): bun run typecheck — exit 0; bun test tests/cli/cli-models.test.ts tests/codex-integration/reasoning-metadata.test.ts — exit 0, 83 pass before restoring an unrelated helper change, with the two keychain and learned-refusal regressions passing again after that restore; bun run structure:check, bun run privacy:scan and bun test tests/ci-workflows/file-size-ratchet.test.ts — exit 0; cd docs-site && bun run build — exit 0, 641 pages, 93,150 internal links. Keychain subprocess regression failed before the fix and has a positive-control recorder. gtimeout 900 bun run test:changed — exit 124 at 900 seconds on ec43aca802; it is incomplete. The log contains only the comparison header and termination message, with no individual test results to classify. The ci:full Ubuntu jobs provide broader exact-head coverage.
  • Previous head 35e909ae80 (base 3b23d46e7d): bun run typecheck — exit 0; bun test tests/cli/cli-models.test.ts tests/codex-integration/reasoning-metadata.test.ts — exit 0, 82 pass; bun run privacy:scan, bun run structure:check, and bun test tests/ci-workflows/file-size-ratchet.test.ts — exit 0. The learned-refusal test failed before the fix. gtimeout 900 bun run test:changed was stopped by us with exit 143 when a valid passive-keychain finding required a source change; its result is incomplete.
  • Previous head b4130c159c (base 3b23d46e7d): bun run typecheck — exit 0; bun test tests/cli/cli-models.test.ts tests/codex-integration/reasoning-metadata.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-shim-autorestore.test.ts — exit 0, 92 pass. bun run privacy:scan and bun run structure:check — exit 0; bun test tests/test-layout.test.ts tests/ci-workflows/file-size-ratchet.test.ts — exit 0, 11 pass.
  • Local gtimeout 900 bun run test:changed on b4130c159c exited 124 at 900 seconds, so it is incomplete. The log contains 21 conservative failing/error-file candidates. Of those, 13 were rerun individually on that head before this review fix: the two Google adapter files and codex-cli-update-apply.test.ts exited 1; the other ten exited 0. Those three failures also exited 1 on earlier clean baseline 3b23d46e7d and earlier head a29818067e; the remaining eight candidates were not rerun on b4130c159c before the source changed. These are not passes on the current head. Exact earlier commands and comparisons follow; ci:full Ubuntu jobs are the broader validation gate.
  • bun test tests/config/config-removed-opencode-free.test.ts tests/config/config-removed-opencode-free-preserve-failure.test.ts tests/server/link-management-relay.test.ts on a412687570 — exit 0, 54 pass, 3 Windows-only skips; only JSON test assertions changed afterwards. The passive model and installed-shim regressions failed before the fix.

The following entries refer to earlier heads, not final-head CI.

  • Current head 6e75adc381 is based on 3b23d46e7d. bun run typecheck — exit 0; bun test tests/cli/cli-models.test.ts tests/codex-integration/reasoning-metadata.test.ts — exit 0, 70 pass. Running the repository assessHygiene against the complete current PR diff — exit 0, no violations; its earlier version reproduced empty_catch with exit 1.
  • bun run test:changed at this head — exit 124 at 900s; 522 files had not started, so this is incomplete evidence, not a pass. Individually ran bun scripts/test.ts <file> for the 17 reported failure/error candidate files on the head; baseline comparisons use clean 3b23d46e7d. The inherited environment was unchanged.
    • tests/adapters/google/gemini-4-argon-antigravity.test.ts: head exit 1, base exit 1.
    • tests/adapters/google/google-antigravity-wire.test.ts: head exit 1, base exit 1.
    • tests/cli/cli-codex-cli-update-boundary.test.ts: head exit 0, base exit 0.

    • tests/codex-integration/codex-catalog-write-audit.test.ts: head exit 0, base exit 0.
    • tests/codex-integration/codex-cli-update-apply.test.ts: head exit 1, base exit 1.
    • tests/codex-integration/codex-cli-update-plan.test.ts: head exit 0, base exit 0.
    • tests/codex-integration/native-codex-toggle.test.ts: head exit 0, base exit 0.
    • tests/codex-integration/native-ultrafast-picker.test.ts: head exit 0, base exit 0.
    • tests/codex-integration/ultrafast-tier-honesty.test.ts: head exit 0, base exit 0.
    • tests/config/settings-stream-mode.test.ts: head exit 0, base exit 0.
    • tests/responses/responses-custom-tool-repair.test.ts: head exit 0, base exit 0.
    • tests/server/server-auth.test.ts: head exit 0, base exit 1.
    • tests/server/server-native-catalog-priority.test.ts: head exit 0, base exit 0.
  • The two Google failures on both heads involve the configured local User-Agent override. The update-apply failure also reproduces on the clean base with an active Codex session. The server-auth file passed alone on the head and failed alone on the base; its reset fixture emits an error log in both, and the aggregate error source remains unproven. No user process was terminated.

Earlier head evidence follows; it does not certify the current head.

  • Before fixes, focused regression cases failed for missing router-known rows, context caps, reasoning denial, native ladder bounds, and sparse canonical native metadata.
  • bun run typecheck — exit 0, 2,317 files.
  • bun test tests/cli/cli-models.test.ts tests/codex-integration/reasoning-metadata.test.ts — exit 0, 70 pass, 0 fail.
  • bun run structure:check — exit 0.
  • bun run skill:surface:check — exit 0.
  • bun run privacy:scan — exit 0.
  • bun test tests/test-layout.test.ts tests/ci-workflows/file-size-ratchet.test.ts — exit 0, 11 pass, 0 fail.
  • Independent final source review — PASS at b4130c159c before the learned-refusal follow-up; it did not run suites or certify CI. Independent scoped implementation review — PASS at pre-rebase head 706d5f64a8 (same carried diff; base added an unrelated SOCKS5 transport change); focused probes do not certify live proxy behavior.
  • bun run test:changed at head 24e97212c2 (base 13d2184759) — exit 1; 50,371 pass, 234 skip, 58 fail, 1 error across 2,251 files. The full selected graph completed; no full-suite claim follows.
  • For every failing file and the file containing the stream error, ran bun scripts/test.ts <file> individually on head 24e97212c2 and clean base 13d2184759. Inherited local environment was unchanged. The following files exited 1 on both (baseline):
    • tests/adapters/google/gemini-4-argon-antigravity.test.ts
    • tests/adapters/google/google-antigravity-wire.test.ts
    • tests/codex-integration/codex-cli-update-apply.test.ts

    • tests/codex-integration/codex-launcher-env.test.ts
    • tests/codex-integration/codex-launcher-security.test.ts
  • These files exited 0 individually on both (the parallel run failures were load/timing-dependent):
    • tests/cli/cli-codex-cli-update-boundary.test.ts
    • tests/cli/ocx-launcher-desktop-handoff.test.ts
    • tests/cli/status-install-method.test.ts

    • tests/service/shutdown-launcher.test.ts
    • tests/update/update-home-launcher.test.ts
    • tests/update/update-mise.test.ts
  • The Google failures reflect the locally configured User-Agent override. The update-apply failure is the active-Codex-session fixture baseline; launcher diagnostics report an unaudited project layer on both. No user process was terminated. The server-auth fixture emits the same connection-reset message in both individual runs, which both exit 0; the source of the aggregate error is not independently proven.
  • The full suite was not run locally because six lanes ran concurrently. CI covers the broader Ubuntu suite, including subprocess and generated-file dependencies (ci:full).

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The local model listing now combines configured IDs with router-known IDs and resolves metadata from enriched provider configuration. Reasoning metadata can be read without refreshing its cache. CLI output, command handling, capability descriptions, and documentation reflect the listing behavior.

Changes: Local model catalog

Layer / File(s) Summary
Resolve local models and metadata
src/cli/models.ts, src/reasoning-effort.ts, src/providers/reasoning-metadata.ts, tests/cli/cli-models.test.ts, tests/codex-integration/reasoning-metadata.test.ts
The listing enriches cloned provider configuration with matching registry data and resolves modalities, reasoning efforts, context windows, and router-known IDs. Tests cover metadata rules, ordering, transport matching, and reads that do not refresh stale reasoning metadata.
Run and format local listings
src/cli/models.ts, src/lib/passive-read.ts, src/config/removed-opencode-free-backup.ts, src/cli/codex-shim-autorestore.ts, tests/cli/cli-models.test.ts, tests/codex-integration/codex-shim-autorestore.test.ts, structure/config.md
Listing handlers use passive reads. The CLI sanitizes displayed values and JSON output, and inventory commands skip automatic shim repair. Passive reads can report a diagnostic through a supplied callback.
Describe listing sources
src/cli/capabilities-provider-models.ts, src/cli/registry.ts, docs-site/src/content/docs/*/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md, skills/ocx/references/01_surface_providers-models.md, structure/cli-management.md
Command descriptions and documentation describe saved and router-known IDs, registry seeds, custom models, and the process discovery cache. They distinguish local listings from the running proxy catalog.

Distinguish unknown and explicitly empty ladders.

For an eligible keychain-backed provider, an explicit empty ladder or a noReasoningModels match returns [], not unknown. The ladder appears in --json output; the human listing does not display it. Qualify this description so users can distinguish [] from null. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
