cheapaimodel (https://cheapaimodel.ai) is a pay-per-token API gateway for open-weight models (DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi) plus Grok, billed from a prepaid USD balance. I work on cheapaimodel.
This adds cheapaimodel as an ordinary API-key provider. It appears in ocx init, in ocx provider add cheapaimodel, in the dashboard's Add provider picker and in API-key login. The preset reuses openai-chat at https://api.cheapaimodel.ai/v1; it adds no sponsor status, ranking preference, OAuth flow, adapter or wire pin. It follows the shape of Modelflare (#7037), TokenLab (#6221) and AI Stupid Level (#7623).
Chat Completions only. The gateway serves POST /v1/chat/completions and GET /v1/models. It has no Responses, Anthropic Messages, embeddings or image endpoints, so every inbound (Responses, Chat, Anthropic) stays on Chat. A test pins that for all five models.
Discovery.liveModels: true reads the key-gated GET /v1/models, so the default discovery URL also validates the key: no key or an invalid key gets 401, a valid key gets 200. The request carries no body.
Seeded models.deepseek-v4-1-flash (the default), glm-5.3, glm-5.3-flash, kimi-k3 and grok-4.7, the live catalog on 2026-10-28. The live list replaces the seed when it loads.
Declared limits. Context windows from the catalog: 1,000,000 tokens, and 500,000 for grok-4.7. Input modalities: glm-5.3 is text only, so an image for it goes to the vision sidecar; the other four take text and images. No per-model output caps are declared.
kimi-k3 sampling.kimi-k3 accepts only temperature 0.6 or 1 and rejects top_p 0.9 and 1.0. The preset lists it in noTemperatureModels and noTopPModels, the same way the opencode-go preset already does for kimi-k3, so a client's temperature or top_p is not forwarded to it.
deepseek-v4-1-flash reasoning. The model takes reasoning_effort none, low, high and max, and an omitted effort runs at high (cheapaimodel blog). The preset reuses the DeepSeek Flash ladder and map (medium and xhigh to high) and adds none: "none", so turning reasoning off is sent explicitly (CodeRabbit finding, fixed in 58e5f45).
Custom destinations are kept.preserveCustomDestination leaves an older same-named custom provider on its own URL.

Resale or routing authorization. cheapaimodel is an aggregator: it buys API access from upstream API providers under their terms and forwards requests to them. It has no separate reseller agreement with the model developers (DeepSeek, Z.ai, Moonshot AI, xAI). The Terms of Service describe these as "Upstream Models" made available by third-party model providers and accessed through the service. I understand this may not meet the bar for a canonical entry; happy to follow the maintainers' call.

Live test
Run on 2026-10-28 (UTC) against https://api.cheapaimodel.ai/v1 with a real cheapaimodel key. The key is not in this PR or its logs. A temporary script (not committed) took the new registry entry and went through opencodex's own code with real fetch: validateApiKey, gatherRoutedModels (live discovery), routeModel, then the openai-chat adapter building the request and parsing the reply. Prompt Reply with exactly: pong; the script asked for temperature 1 on kimi-k3.
The test machine's DNS is a Clash fake-IP resolver (answers in 198.18.0.0/15), which the provider-models destination policy refuses, so for this run the provider config set allowPrivateNetwork: true. On a normal resolver this is not needed; the request itself is unchanged.

Also checked directly against the API: a second tool-call turn that drops the assistant's reasoning_content is accepted by deepseek-v4-1-flash and kimi-k3 (200), so the preset does not set preserveReasoningContentModels.

The title "feat(providers): add cheapaimodel API-key preset" matches the main change. The PR adds the cheapaimodel provider preset in src/providers/registry/entries-extended.ts, with its tests and docs. It is concise, specific, and follows a conventional commit style. Its scope is a single provider addition, which matches the changeset and the PR objectives. The title does not mention the docs count updates or the tests, but those are supporting changes and the title does not need to cover them.

Maintainer review for catalog admission (L5 maintenance lane for @lidge-jun).
Thanks for the dated evidence packet. Against the canonical preset evidence list, we verified these items from public pages: the chat completions and GET /v1/models documentation, Bearer authentication, the terms naming LINKOVA PTE. LTD. as operator, the maintenance owner (@nicho810), the disclosed affiliation and the verification date. The HTTPS destination and the mocked discovery and key-validation tests look coherent.
One required item is missing, so this is on HOLD rather than merging. cheapaimodel routes requests to upstream model vendors, so it counts as an aggregator. For aggregators the policy requires primary-source evidence that the upstream providers authorize that routing or resale. The PR says there is no separate reseller agreement, and the gateway's own terms cannot establish what the upstream vendors permit.
Either of these would unblock it:
Link primary-source evidence of routing or resale authorization for the upstream routes the gateway serves, for example a vendor partner or reseller listing, or upstream terms that explicitly permit this kind of API routing.
Reduce the change to an inert reference row in src/providers/free-directory.ts, the documented fallback when evidence is incomplete. That change would not touch the canonical counts (106/85 → 107/86) in the guides, quickstarts and structure/ops/docs-and-release.md.
If you go with option 1, rebase onto current dev first so the counts are re-derived against whatever presets have landed by then.
Owner decision (@lidge-jun): the missing upstream routing/resale-authorization evidence is waived, and canonical admission of the cheapaimodel preset is allowed.
Still required before merge: refresh onto current dev, update the provider counts to the current registry, an independent destination/security review, the readiness checklist, and green CI on the exact head.
cheapaimodel is an OpenAI-compatible, pay-per-token gateway for open-weight models (DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi) and Grok. The preset uses the existing openai-chat adapter at https://api.cheapaimodel.ai/v1, discovers models from the key-gated GET /v1/models, seeds the five live catalog models with deepseek-v4-1-flash as the default, declares their context windows and input modalities (glm-5.3 is text only), and drops temperature and top_p for kimi-k3, which accepts only its own sampling values. Preset counts are recounted to 107 total and 86 key-based.
…lash
deepseek-v4-1-flash on cheapaimodel takes reasoning_effort none, low, high
and max, and an omitted effort runs at high. Without an effort map the
preset dropped none, so a no-reasoning request still reasoned at high.
The model now uses the DeepSeek Flash ladder (low, high, max; medium and
xhigh map to high) plus none: "none". A test pins the serialized
reasoning_effort for every level.
Destination/security review (independent reviewer, static review of head cabfdb398f1fa6db2c50b6aeacf49d5d64641281; L5 maintenance lane for @lidge-jun). This covers the review item in the owner's 2026-10-31 decision.
Verdict: PASS-WITH-NITS.
The preset uses the documented HTTPS host and Bearer authentication for chat completions and model discovery. The diff adds no extra headers, embedded secrets, personal data or new logging, and the key goes to no other host.
The entry follows the conventions of neighbouring API-key presets and keeps a same-named custom destination intact. The explicit none reasoning mapping applies only to deepseek-v4-1-flash, which matches the provider's documentation.
Counts: dev has 106 presets (85 key-based) and this branch has 107 (86 key-based). All eight provider guides, eight quickstarts and structure/ops/docs-and-release.md carry the new numbers, and the review found no stale count in those files.
The focused test covers request construction, discovery, key validation, routing and the reasoning mapping. It is registered in both test-layout files.
One low-severity wording nit, which does not block merging: docs-site/src/content/docs/guides/providers.md:966 and the comment at src/providers/registry/entries-extended.ts:1329 say the gateway has no Anthropic Messages endpoint. Its current API docs do describe POST /v1/messages. That doesn't mean the preset should change transport, but the wording should describe the transport the preset uses rather than claim the endpoint doesn't exist. This can be done in a follow-up.
Not covered by this review: no credentials were sent, and the reviewer ran no tests. Exact-head CI is checked separately before merge.
…ndpoints it lacks
The gateway documents POST /v1/messages, so say the preset uses Chat
Completions rather than claiming the other endpoints do not exist.
Thanks for the review. I fixed the wording nit in 30e28b0: both docs-site/src/content/docs/guides/providers.md and the comment in src/providers/registry/entries-extended.ts now say the preset sends every request through Chat Completions and doesn't use the gateway's Responses or Anthropic Messages endpoints, instead of claiming those endpoints don't exist. No code or count changes.
