Paused keys are excluded from selection, failover, and quota probing. Pausing the active key selects the next enabled key in ring order, or clears the active key when none remain. Manual pause and resume operations report the resulting active account. |
Paused-key inference handling src/adapters/google.ts, src/codex/catalog/provider-models.ts, src/providers/openai-sidecar.ts, src/router.ts, src/server/chat-native.ts, src/server/images.ts, src/server/messages-native.ts, src/server/responses/*, tests/providers/api-key-auto-pause-distribution.test.ts |
Provider discovery, routing, and inference paths recognize paused keys. Requests return HTTP 403 permission_error when no usable key remains. Tests cover paused-pool refusals, failover, quota handling, and model discovery. |
Management API and CLI reporting src/cli/account-extended.ts, src/server/management/config-routes.ts, src/server/management/provider-routes.ts, src/server/management/oauth-account-routes.ts, tests/cli/cli-account-key-pause.test.ts, tests/server/management-account-auto-pause.test.ts, tests/providers/api-key-auto-pause-distribution.test.ts |
CLI pause and resume output includes the active account ID and whether it changed. The management API returns the pause result and determines whether a provider has a stored API key from its key or nonempty key pool. |

Provider key rows show pause state and pause/resume actions. The hook updates the roster and refreshes configuration and quotas when the active account changes. |

the authoritative `activeAccountId` and `activeAccountChanged` values, and
update the CLI result handling around `activeAccountId` to use those returned
values instead of inferring state from rows fetched before the mutation. Retain
the inference only if older-server compatibility is required, and mark it as
non-authoritative.

before the API-key guard so native compact providers without an API key still
receive the local 403 permission error when their pool is paused. Keep the
existing check after warm-key selection and apply the same forward-auth
exclusion.

Maintainer triage (2026-10-28, against dev 96f2f47): The feature is still needed, but this broader change should remain with the author through final validation.

Summary
Provider API-key pools now have separate Pause and Resume controls in the dashboard. Pausing the active key commits the next enabled key in ring order; an all-paused pool keeps its stored keys but has no active key. Resume preserves a healthy active selection. Every manual resume also renews the refusal fence, including a resume of an already enabled key, so an older in-flight refusal cannot pause it again.
The existing
PUT /api/providers/keys/pauseendpoint returns the committedactiveAccountId(ornull) andactiveAccountChanged. The CLI and GUI use the server result, with a compatibility fallback for older servers. The roster is reconciled after mutations; configuration and quota refresh follow active-key changes.All-paused pools never dispatch a paused key. Requests without another eligible route return local HTTP 403
permission_error; key selection never falls back to environment credentials or Vertex ADC. Paused keys are excluded from failover and quota probes; fresh cached quota and configured model visibility remain available. Explicit Images providers and the default OpenAI API fallback can select an enabled sibling when their active key is stale and paused. Recovery stays inside the keyed dispatch branch; the shared Audio/Live selector retains its default paused-key refusal.Images revalidates the committed provider immediately before keyed dispatch: a pause after initial selection uses the enabled sibling, returns 403 for an all-paused pool, or returns a configuration error for an unresolvable replacement without sending the stale key. Implicit Images routing retains eligible forward/CCA fallback; explicit custom providers remain fail-closed. Duplicate key references prefer an enabled row for selection identity, and pause/removal preserve an enabled same-reference survivor.
This carries the manual API-key pause/resume work from #7318 onto dev and preserves #7628's paused/disabled quota filtering. Issue #7101 tracks opt-in auto-pause after permanent refusals, implemented on dev by #7153; it does not track this manual-control PR. No dedicated tracking issue for this work was found.
