Add kcap local status, start, stop, restart, logs and open - #1602
Conversation
status takes no lock and never probes the instance lock while the service may start the server: a probe at that moment would make the server refuse to run. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Detect port holders without requiring lsof
On supported Linux installations where lsof is not installed, this call throws and the catch silently reports that no process owns the port. A port conflict then makes kcap local status claim the server is merely starting and can make kcap local start wait for the full ten-minute readiness budget instead of naming the holder; the repository neither installs nor checks for lsof, so use a Linux-native fallback or surface the unavailable probe.

Not fixed here: macOS, the target of this PR, always ships lsof. Linux is AI-3898, which owns a Linux-native holder probe (or surfacing the missing tool). Until then a missing lsof only loses the holder's name; start still falls back to the auth-config identity check.

Check the listener before accepting a ready response
When another local Capacitor-compatible process already owns the configured port and exposes both /healthz/ready and /auth/config, the newly started service can still be reported as Running briefly before its bind failure. This early return bypasses the holder check below, and the subsequent auth probe also succeeds against the foreign process, so kcap local start incorrectly reports this installation as ready; verify the listening PID before returning on health.

Fixed in 3f02274: the holder check now runs before the ready return (test Start_does_not_take_a_ready_answer_from_another_listener).

Count crash-loop attempts that run between polls
For a server that starts and exits faster than the one-second polling interval, every observation can be Restarting and lastPid remains null, so this guarded branch never increments restarts. This is a common shape for immediate configuration or startup failures under launchd/systemd, and kcap local start consequently waits the full ten-minute budget rather than giving up after the advertised three restarts; derive the restart count from supervisor state or otherwise account for unseen short-lived processes.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Fixed in 3f02274: exits are also counted from the service manager's own start counter (launchd runs, systemd NRestarts), so a server never sampled running still trips the limit (test Start_counts_exits_it_never_saw_running).

not let WithStack or the lifecycle handlers run when unsupported arguments are
present. Leave logs argument handling unchanged.
- Around line 113-114: Update the readiness check in LocalCommand so `kcap local
open` verifies that the installed service is active and belongs to this
installation before launching the browser; do not treat an `AuthConfigAsync`
response of `Lifted` alone as proof of readiness. Reuse the installed-service
readiness check used by `kcap local status` if available.

The service manager's own start count catches a server that exits between two polls, and a listener only bound to a LAN address shares the port with the server rather than taking it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

A mistyped flag on stop would otherwise persist a stop across logins, and the output log is never rotated, so logs reads it back from the end instead of whole. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
