What

The last structural step of the Settings simplification: Settings goes from ten pages to eight, and each installed agent's own settings move into its row on Agents. Nothing is removed, no value changes, and no agent's own configuration is written.

Page merges

  • Voice input is now a group of Chat. The microphone button and dictation language are in Chat's first view. Speech recognition, tidying dictated text and the OpenAI key are in Chat's More settings, so the "API key below" wording still holds.
  • Remote PCs is now a group of the page renamed Devices and PCs. Add PC and Add a PC through the relay are in the first view, then Show in sidebar. The bridge updates and the PC load line are in its More settings, next to the Access facts.
  • Old links and history entries naming voice or remote open the page they went to (lib/deepLink.ts; new unit cases), with the same group.
  • The command palette entries and the sidebar's "manage hidden PCs" link point at the new pages.

Agents

  • Each agent row under On this PC opens on its status (version, sign-in, accounts, session resume) and on the settings that belong to that agent alone:
    • Claude Code: its permission mode, its Artifacts chip and, on a touch screen, its suggestion chip.
    • Codex: its sandbox and approvals.
    • OMP: its side conversations chip (experimental).
  • New workspace, New tab and New worktree start the agent in that mode, as before.
  • The separate New agents group goes, and so do those chip rows on the Chat page. An agent not on the PC offers none.
  • A Settings search shows each installed agent's settings in a group named after it, so a search for "permission" or "artifacts" still lands on them. The palette finds them through the Agents page.
  • Not added here: per-agent New tab defaults for model and effort (no such setting exists today; a follow-up can add one), and a "Chat support" line (no catalog fact says which agents have a chat, so it is not guessed).

Naming

  • Strings that point at this PC's own page now say Devices and PCs: the device-paired and LAN notices, the signed-out advice, Sign out's note and the plugin's hint.
  • Add a PC through the relay names the other PC's page as "Devices and PCs (Phone & devices on an older Ovis)".
  • The hosted shell's copy (app.ovis.sh) keeps "Phone & devices", since it talks to PCs on any version.

Design: Zed and VS Code keep settings that belong to one extension under that extension. herdr-app has no per-agent settings.

Validation

  • bun run check fast on the merged head: all green.
  • Unit: deepLink (old pages redirect with their group), paletteSettings (voice/remote entries; Suggestion chip lands on Agents), i18n (keys placed and translated in ko/ja/zh), userError, AddRelayPc and conventions all pass.
  • Browser, all 39 that name the moved rows or renamed pages PASS on the merged head (shared demo build). They include:
    • settings-pages-demo-regression.ts, which now checks Claude Code's row holds its permission mode, Codex's its sandbox, and the Voice input group's OpenAI key behind Chat's fold;
    • settings-tabs-regression.ts, whose own-key toggle is now Collapse work;
    • the device, relay, PC, portal, LAN and wake-lock scripts, renamed to Devices and PCs.
  • Failing on main too, so not caused by this PR: ui-regression.ts, font-swap-demo-regression.ts, alert-sound-regression.ts, machines-browser-qa.ts and update-browser-qa.ts, each run on a clean origin/main checkout. relay-shell-browser-qa.ts (needs a real relay) was not run.
  • Not run locally: bun run check full and the rest of the browser lane (CI runs them).

…ngs and Experimental

Each Settings page shows first what people change and folds the rest under More settings and Experimental (SettingsFold, a native details) at its end; the folded line counts the settings in it this device changed. Settings' search shows folded rows as if unfolded, and a link or the palette naming a group inside opens the fold (new groups typography-more, composer-more, file-viewer-more, chat-experimental, ...). The first view is 40 rows across the pages, Shortcuts aside, down from 88. Nothing is removed. Open files and Web links stack on a phone.
…ge in sight

Review of #3096: the Also send to group stays in the Alerts page's first view, where its last failed post is said, and the bridge switch's refusal is drawn beside the switch in its fold (and in a search).
Voice input becomes a group of Chat (its speech recognition, tidying and OpenAI key in Chat's More settings) and Remote PCs a group of the page renamed Devices and PCs; links and history entries naming the old pages open where they went. Settings > Agents keeps each installed agent's own settings in its row: Claude Code's permission mode, Artifacts chip and (touch) suggestion chip, Codex's sandbox and approvals, OMP's side conversations chip; the New agents group and those Chat rows go. A search shows each installed agent's settings in a group of its own. Nothing is removed; no agent configuration is written.

The consolidation remains mergeable with bounded follow-up: some pairing instructions name an unavailable Settings page, and a legacy link can land above the intended Remote PCs group. Correcting these destinations would avoid user confusion.

Review of #3108: Claude Code's, Codex's and OMP's own settings live on this device and start the agent on any PC, so an agent the PC shown has no row for (not installed, or its catalog unread) keeps a group of its own, and a search finds each. The hosted shell's and Add a PC's directions name Devices and PCs with Phone & devices for an older Ovis; Sign out's translations say the new name; an old link to voice or remote alone lands on that group.

Review (omo + Codex Terra xhigh) and resolutions

Finding Severity Status
The per-agent settings (Claude Code's permission mode and chips, Codex's sandbox, OMP's chip) showed only in that agent's row, so a PC that has no row for the agent (not installed, an older Ovis whose catalog answers 404, or a failed read) left no way to change device-wide settings that start the agent on every PC (omo reproduced; Codex HIGH) MEDIUM/HIGH Fixed in 6374bb1: an agent the PC shown has no row for keeps a group of its own with its settings, and a search always finds each (AgentOwnRows, ownGroups); a regression step searches "sandbox" with Codex's row shut
The hosted shell's pairing directions and Add a PC still named only "Phone & devices" MEDIUM Fixed: they name "Devices and PCs (Phone & devices on an older Ovis)", since the other PC may run any version; ko/ja/zh follow
Sign out's note: ko/ja/zh still said "Phone & devices" LOW Fixed
?settings=voice or ?settings=remote without a section opened the page's top LOW Fixed: it lands on the Voice input or Remote PCs group (deepLink unit cases)
A saved link to section=launch-modes no longer finds a group LOW Not changed: it opens Agents at its top, where the modes now sit in each agent's row
The modes sit under "On this PC" though they apply to every PC LOW Not changed: the row's description says they apply to New workspace, New tab and New worktree; noted for wording later

CodeRabbit did not review this head (review limits).

Validation after the fixes and merging main: bun run check fast green; settings-pages, agent-entry-points, settings-tabs, relay-panel, device-security, hide-pc, pc-load and lan-exposure-notice regressions PASS on the pushed head; unit i18n, deepLink, paletteSettings, AddRelayPc and conventions pass.

Local merge gate (owner-approved): origin/main merged (i18n lists and the new RelayShell 'Other ways' structure), bun run check fast passed at this head, 40 settings-related browser regressions pass, omo CLEAR at this exact head (first-review omo + Codex findings fixed earlier), threads resolved, merges cleanly with the newer main (#3110/#3111 touch no shared file). Third step of the owner-requested Settings simplification: 10 -> 8 pages (Voice into Chat, Remote PCs into Devices and PCs; old links go to the new place) and an Agents page holding each installed agent's own rows; agents' own config files are never written. Merged without waiting for GitHub CI.

… in ui-regression (#3120)

## What it changes

`scripts/ui-regression.ts` (CI's required "Browser regression
(ui-regression)" job) is red on `main` again: `setChecked` times out
after 30 s waiting for `getByRole('switch', { name: 'Suggestion chip'
})`.

#3108 moved the Suggestion chip switch out of Chat's Composer "More
settings" into Claude Code's own settings on the Agents page: in Claude
Code's row under "On this PC" when the PC has Claude, else in a "Claude
Code" group of its own on that page (and only on a touch screen, which
the phone context is). The script still opened
`?settings=chat&section=composer-more`, where the switch no longer is.

The step now opens `?settings=agents`, waits for Claude Code's row or
its group, opens the row when it is one, and turns the same switch on.
The steps and assertions after it are unchanged.

I also checked every `scripts/*` file for links, sections and labels of
the rows #3108 and #3117 moved or merged (`launch-modes`,
`chat-experimental`, the old `voice`/`remote` pages, Permission mode,
Artifacts chip, Side conversations chip, Expand thinking, Group agents
by state, the two Tidy dictated text switches, the old page names).
Apart from this step, #3108 and #3117 had already updated them, so this
PR changes only this one script.

No product code changes.

## Validation

- In `herdr-ci-runner:local` (CI env, a fresh worktree, `bun install
--frozen-lockfile`, `bun run build`, `scripts/ci-browser-parallel.ts`
with `BROWSER_SCRIPTS=scripts/ui-regression.ts`):
- on `origin/main` 309f5b3: FAIL twice, `TimeoutError: setChecked:
Timeout 30000ms exceeded` waiting for the `Suggestion chip` switch.
- on this branch: PASS (238 s), including "PASS a phone offers Claude's
suggestion as a chip once Settings turns it on".
- `bun run check fast`: green (unit 12591 pass, 0 fail; typecheck,
build, generated files and workflow syntax ok).
- Skipped: `ui-contexts-regression`, the integration suite and the other
browser scripts (only this step of one script changed).

…arts it on (#3116)

## What

Settings > Agents follow-up to #3108: each agent row that already holds
the mode New workspace, New tab and New worktree start the agent in now
also holds the **model** and **effort** they start it on.

- **Claude Code** row: Permission mode, then **Model** (`--model`, with
the alias suggestions sonnet/opus/haiku) and **Effort** (`--effort`:
low, medium, high, xhigh, max).
- **Codex** row: Sandbox and approvals, then **Model** (`--model`) and
**Effort** (`-c model_reasoning_effort=`: low ... ultra).
- New workspace and New tab fill their Model and Effort fields with them
when the dialog opens on that agent or the agent is picked. Every field
stays visible and editable before Start. New worktree (no such fields)
passes them as they are.
- **Default: none set.** Empty model and "Agent default" add no flag, so
with nothing set every launch is byte-for-byte today's (a test pins it).
- No other agent gets these rows: only Claude Code's and Codex's
launches take a model and a level (`launchCapabilities`, the facts the
dialog already uses). Start mode for other agents is not added: no other
agent's CLI has a verified mode flag in that table.
- Nothing writes the agent's own config file.

## Which flags, and why they are safe on the installed CLI

The rows use exactly the flags the New tab dialog has passed since
#1512, checked by the same rules (`launchChoiceFault` on the client,
`launchArgsFault` on the bridge):

- Claude Code: `--model` and `--effort` are in `claude --help` (2.1.318
here); `--effort` is in the changelog by 2.1.72 and `xhigh` since
2.1.111, both below the catalog's minimum 2.1.284.
- Codex: `-m/--model` and `-c key=value` are in `codex --help` (0.166.0
here) and in the catalog's minimum 0.157.0.

A stored value the launch would refuse is dropped when settings load
(`sanitizeSettings`) and again when the defaults are read
(`launchDefaults`), so a value never reaches another agent's command
line or one that would refuse it.

## Dialog behaviour

- Opening on an agent fills its defaults; picking another agent fills
that agent's model, and its effort when one is set.
- With no effort set for the next agent, a level the reader picked in
the dialog stays where the agent names it (today's behaviour), and the
level that came from the previous agent's default does not carry over.
- A typed model in Settings is kept only once it is one name `--model`
takes; otherwise the row says "One model name, without spaces." and the
last kept value stays.

## Storage

Four new settings (`claudeLaunchModel`, `claudeLaunchEffort`,
`codexLaunchModel`, `codexLaunchEffort`), shared across devices like the
launch modes (added to `SHARED_SETTING_KEYS`; an older server simply
keeps them device-local). Not collected by telemetry.

Design follows Codex's and the Claude Code app's own per-agent default
model/effort; DESIGN.md's New agents entry describes it.

## Validation

- Failing first on origin/main 72b8127: `launchDefaults` unit test, the
settings sanitize test and the NewSessionDialog prefill test failed
before the change; all pass after.
- `bun test src/lib/agentLaunchMode.test.ts src/lib/settings.test.ts
src/components/NewSessionDialog.test.tsx src/lib/newSession.test.ts
src/lib/i18n.test.ts`: pass. `bun run typecheck`: pass.
- Browser, in the CI runner image (`herdr-ci-runner:local`, own
HERDR_TEST_SESSION): `scripts/settings-pages-demo-regression.ts`
(extended: Claude's Model/Effort rows store, an invalid model is
refused, Codex's row has Effort),
`scripts/new-session-skills-browser-qa.ts`,
`scripts/phone-worktree-sheet-regression.ts`: PASS.
- Screenshots at 390 and 1280, light and dark, of the Agents rows, the
invalid-model state and the prefilled New tab dialog (demo app).
- `bun run check fast`: pass (unit 12586 pass / 0 fail, typecheck,
build, generated files, workflow syntax).
- Not run: full integration suite, Windows/macOS jobs (no server,
Windows or app code changed).
