fix(mobile): tell a keyboard from Safari's page zoom by the visual viewport's width - #1957
On an iPad whose Safari page zoom for the app's address is below 100% (85% here), the composer never followed the keyboard: syncKeyboard treated any visualViewport.scale !== 1 as a pinch zoom, and Safari's per-site page zoom, which the home-screen app keeps, also reports as a scale below 1. A pinch zoom narrows the visual viewport while a page zoom leaves it as wide as the layout, so the rule now compares visualViewport.width with the layout width instead of testing the scale.
scripts/keyboard-viewport-regression.ts: the fake visual viewport gains a width (derived from the scale, or set explicitly for a page zoom) and a page-zoom case: scale 0.85, full width, visual viewport shrunk by a keyboard → data-keyboard set; grown back → cleared. The case fails against the old rule (keyboard flag follows occlusion, not focus alone: false !== true) and passes with this one.
docs/guide.md ("On your phone"): a short paragraph for an iPad with a hardware keyboard. Two iPadOS settings decide how the composer behaves and neither is visible from the app:
page zoom below 100% (above), with the app's own text-size settings as the way to make things smaller;
the shortcuts bar iPadOS shows for hardware keyboards (language, arrows, dictation). It covers the composer, and iPadOS then scrolls the whole page to reveal the focused field on every tap and keystroke, which looks like the composer jumping. Settings → General → Keyboard → Shortcuts turns it off.
How it was found
Ovis home-screen app on an iPad (iPadOS 26, Magic Keyboard, landscape). Screen recordings showed the shell sliding ~30 px and back on each tap into the composer, and a one-frame collapse on keystrokes. A temporary overlay that painted the viewport numbers on screen read, at rest, innerHeight 1374 · visualViewport.height 1294 · scale 0.85 · data-keyboard off and, for the one frame of the jump, visualViewport.offsetTop 81: the 80 px shortcuts bar hid the composer, iPadOS scrolled the page to reveal it, and the app had never detected a keyboard because of the scale. Setting page zoom to 100% and turning the shortcuts bar off removed both symptoms on the device; this PR makes the first one unnecessary and documents the second.

…ewport's width
The keyboard rule took any visual viewport scale other than 1 for a pinch zoom. Safari's
per-site page zoom (Settings → Apps → Safari → Page Zoom, which the home-screen app keeps)
also reports as a scale below 1, so on an iPad set to 85% the composer never followed the
keyboard. A pinch zoom narrows the visual viewport; a page zoom leaves it as wide as the
layout. Compare the widths instead.
The regression script's fake visual viewport gains a width (derived from the scale, or set
for a page zoom), and a page-zoom case that fails against the old rule.
The guide's phone section notes the two iPadOS settings behind a jumping composer on an iPad
with a hardware keyboard: page zoom below 100%, and the shortcuts bar that covers the composer
and makes iPadOS scroll the page to reveal it.

Bug Fixes
Improved keyboard visibility detection on iPad when Safari page zoom is enabled, helping the composer remain responsive and keyboard dismissal update correctly.
Documentation
Added guidance for iPad hardware-keyboard users: keep Safari’s per-site page zoom at 100%, turn off the hardware-keyboard shortcuts bar if it obscures the composer, and adjust text size in the app’s Display settings. The globe key can still be used to switch keyboard languages.
The viewport detector now uses visual viewport width instead of requiring a scale of 1. The regression scenario covers keyboard activation and dismissal at Safari page zoom. The guide adds iPad hardware-keyboard guidance.

Summary
Viewport detection, regression coverage, and iPad guidance src/lib/viewport.ts, scripts/keyboard-viewport-regression.ts, docs/guide.md
The viewport detector checks whether visual viewport width is within 2 pixels of the document width. The existing occlusion threshold remains unchanged. The regression scenario tests keyboard activation and dismissal at scale 0.85. The guide describes Safari page zoom and the iPadOS Shortcuts bar settings.
Users may unnecessarily reset Safari page zoom even though the updated behavior supports keyboard tracking at reduced zoom.

Verified at 43e1d5b (your a08dacd plus one docs commit). Thanks for the careful device measurements.
The fix holds. A pinch zoom narrows visualViewport.width by its scale, while Safari's per-site page zoom leaves it at the layout width. Comparing the width instead of requiring scale === 1 therefore still excludes pinch zoom and lets a keyboard count at 85% page zoom. Your readings agree: at scale 0.85 the visual height was the inner height minus the 80 px bar, not divided by the scale.
One docs commit added (43e1d5b), for CodeRabbit's finding on docs/guide.md. The guide still told iPad users to keep page zoom at 100%, because "below 100% a keyboard is no longer told apart from a zoom". This PR makes that untrue, so the page-zoom bullet is gone and only the shortcuts-bar paragraph stays. Your commit is unchanged.
Checks on this branch (current with main):
bun run check fast: pass on a08dacd and on 43e1d5b (unit 7,139 pass, 0 fail, 24 skip).
bun run check run --build bun scripts/keyboard-viewport-regression.ts: pass. With main's src/lib/viewport.ts it fails with keyboard flag follows occlusion, not focus alone: false !== true, so the new page-zoom case catches the bug.
bun run check run --build bun scripts/mobile-viewport-regression.ts: pass.

Review prepared with a code-review agent and checked against the code. The merge decision stays with the maintainer's merge pass.
Merge pass: this PR passed review. Codex Sol approved it, and omo-native-code-reviewer passed it: the width check tells Safari's page zoom from a pinch zoom, and the regression test fails without the fix. The details will go in the merge comment.
One thing is missing before the merge: a changelog.d/ fragment for this user-visible fix. It should be a ### Fixed entry crediting @Noobear, in the format from changelog.d/README.md. Once it's pushed, the merge pass merges this PR with no further review.
Added the missing changelog.d/ fragment as d34d2ce (changelog.d/ipad-page-zoom-keyboard.md, a ### Fixed entry crediting @Noobear); scripts/changelog-fold.test.ts passes (12/0). No code change, so the earlier review stands. Thanks again, @Noobear.
Merge pass review report. Overall: PASSED. This is an outside contribution that changes client behaviour, so it was reviewed by Codex Sol (gpt-6.1-sol, xhigh), which approved it, and omo-native-code-reviewer (claude-opus-5-5), which passed it. The maintainer approved merging it. The ext-pr-review lane verified it and added the docs commit 43e1d5b.
Detection:src/lib/viewport.ts:71-74 tells Safari's page zoom from a pinch zoom by comparing the visual viewport's width with the page width.
A pinch zoom can't read as a keyboard. A keyboard has to cover more than 20% of the height, which takes a zoom above about 1.25×, and at that zoom the width is about 78 px off, against a 2 px tolerance.
A keyboard reads as zoom only while a pinch zoom or iOS auto-zoom is also active. That is no worse than the old scale === 1 rule.
Other platforms: rotation and iPad split view read fresh widths on every update. The iPadOS shortcuts bar on an external keyboard stays under the 20% cutoff. Desktop is unchanged, because the check only runs on touch screens. On Android the scale is 1 and the widths match.
Tests:scripts/keyboard-viewport-regression.ts passes with the fix. With viewport.ts reverted it fails at the new page-zoom step. It uses no fixed sleeps.
Docs: the docs/guide.md wording is accurate, and the page-zoom advice that the fix makes unnecessary is removed.
State: typecheck is clean, git merge-tree is clean, and there are 0 unresolved threads.
d34d2ce: adds the changelog fragment changelog.d/ipad-page-zoom-keyboard.md (Fixed, crediting @Noobear). No code changed, and the changelog fold test passes 12/0.

- **Release summaries:** `release-summaries.json` has the 0.4.19 entry
in en, ko, ja and zh, with the same lists in each: 5 new, 5 improved, 5
fixed. Every English line is at most 70 characters.
- **Remote bundle:** `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` goes from 37 to 38 in
`shared/machines.ts`, because the remote bundle's inputs changed since
`remote-v37`. Once this merges, `remote-v38` is pushed on the merge
commit, and the Remote PC bundles workflow has to finish before the
Release run.
`bun scripts/release-guards.ts` reports: "Release 0.4.19: remote bundle,
telemetry Worker and release metadata are in order." No telemetry Worker
deploy is needed. `bun run check fast` passes locally.
**Not checked on a real Windows PC:** #1989 (Git for Windows' OpenSSH
for remote PCs) and #2016 (Antigravity chat on Windows through the
Restart Manager) ship without their real-device Windows checks, because
the maintainer's Windows test PC is off. The owner accepted releasing
without them. Both will be checked on the real PC when it is back.
