Change

Claude keeps one store per CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, and two stores can hold the same session id. The
earlier-sessions list always read the bridge's own Claude store, and Resume was an argv-only
POST /api/tab/create. So a pane running Claude on another store could miss its history, and a
resume could start the session in the wrong store, or open another account's session that has the
same id.

  • server/claude-store.ts reads a Claude process's store as tagged evidence: an exported override
    (an empty export is kept apart from none), none exported, a Windows PID-record store, unreadable or
    ambiguous. Only a complete read of the environment counts as "none exported". On macOS, ps prints
    arguments and environment as one line and cannot bound an exported value, so only "none shown"
    counts as proof there. When the store can't be determined, the bridge refuses instead of falling
    back to the default store. The live chat keeps its existing reading.
  • GET /api/sessions/history takes pane_id. The bridge checks that the pane belongs to the
    workspace before it reads any store, and lists only that pane's Claude store. Each Claude row gets
    resume.source = { pane_id, store_key }; the key is a hash that contains no path. When herdr
    reports none of the pane's processes, the bridge answers 409 claude_store_unknown instead of
    using the default store.
  • New POST /api/sessions/resume (SessionResumeRequest / SessionResumeResponse in
    shared/protocol.ts). It needs the same interact permission as tab creation, and it also works
    through the PC proxy. It reads the store again and refuses a source that changed (409
    stale_source). Before any tab is made, it also refuses a store it can't determine (409
    claude_store_unknown) and a launch that a new tab would not repeat (409 launch_unsupported).
    When a pane in the workspace already shows the session on the same store, it answers opened, and
    herdr's focus does not move. Otherwise it runs herdr's tab.create with only the
    CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR the source had exported, then agent.start.
  • A source with no CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR exported is bound only when herdr's own environment proves
    that a new tab inherits none either. A pane's shell can't prove this, because it may have dropped
    a variable herdr hands down. On Linux the bridge finds the processes that hold herdr's listening
    socket in /proc and reads their environment in full. Where it can't do that (macOS and Windows),
    or herdr exports a store, the list shows "Resume unavailable" for those rows and the route refuses
    them.
  • The client sends the source pane: the pane asking, else the selected pane, else the workspace's
    first pane in tab order. While a list is read again, the Agent picker and the rows' buttons are disabled. Claude rows resume only through the new route, with no fallback on 404,
    and a row is matched to its own source pane wherever the roster lists it. Pending rows and recent
    resumes are keyed by store. A list read again after a store change keeps its rows in place without
    their buttons and returns the focus to the row that asked. A one-line status under the rows says
    "Resuming…", "Reading sessions…" or why the list was read again, so nothing moves under the
    pointer. The "store unknown" message names the next step. New strings have ko/ja/zh entries. The
    demo answers the new route, and its flaky-retry-test workspace plays the part of an older bridge.

The design follows the resume pickers of Codex CLI (/resume) and Claude Code (claude --resume):
one session per row, with no store selector added. Claude Code itself only lists the store it runs
on, which is what binding the list to the pane does (DESIGN.md, Session history).

Validation

  • bun run typecheck; bun test on server/claude-store, server/session-history,
    src/lib/sessionHistory and the neighbouring client and proxy tests plus the Agent picker's (319 pass, 1 platform skip; main removed the rewind cases from server/conversation.test.ts).
    These include "Claude history uses the source pane store", "same UUID in another store is not
    Open" (also when another store's pane comes first in the roster), "implicit and explicit default
    store routes remain distinct", "recent resumes include store identity", "unreadable Claude
    environment is not a proven absent override", "ambiguous macOS ps output is no proof of a store",
    and "herdr's launch source is the environment of the server on its socket". The conventions tests
    pass (40).

  • bun run check run bun test --timeout 15000 ./server/api.contract.test.ts -t 'POST /api/sessions/resume|GET /api/sessions/history'
    (5 pass). The cases run on a herdr session of their own, with a native Claude stand-in first on its
    shells' PATH that reports what it inherited. Through the real tab.create and agent.start:

    • An alternate store stays exported, and the stand-in writes to it.
    • An absent override stays absent.
    • An explicit ~/.claude stays exported and gets a different key.
    • A shell-only pane lists the default store, bound to that pane.
    • A pane already showing the session opens it, makes nothing, and leaves herdr's focus where it
      was.

    Each of these is refused with no tab created: watch-only 403, foreign pane 400, forged id or key
    400/409, a source pane that restarted on another store or closed 409, an unreadable store, and two
    Claudes in one pane. A herdr that exports a store while the source shell drops it lists the row
    without Resume and answers 409 launch_unsupported. The PC proxy refuses a stale key the same way.

  • bun scripts/session-history-browser-qa.ts (12 PASS):

    • A Claude list names its source pane.
    • A double click sends one sessions/resume and no tab/create.
    • A pane reporting the same id from another store is not Open.
    • A changed store is read again with the rows and the dialog in place and the focus on the row
      that asked.
    • A 404 resume route and an unsupported launch send no tab/create.
    • An older bridge's rows show "Resume unavailable" and send nothing.
  • Visual check at 390 (iPhone 14 emulation) and 1440, light and dark, and in Korean at 390, covering
    rows, focus, hover, pressed, pending, Open, loading, empty, error, long prompts, list end,
    read-again, the unsupported-launch refusal, Resume unavailable, watch-only and an offline PC. No
    horizontal scroll, focus is visible, and text contrast is 4.84:1 or more. The Agent picker is 34 px
    tall on a phone; that is main's control, unchanged here.

On macOS and Windows, Resume for a Claude store chosen without CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR stays unavailable
until herdr's launch environment can be read there. Listing still works.

This changes an HTTP contract and its permissions, so it waits for a real review. No issue is
assigned.

Plan todo 40 of the AoE borrowings plan. Independent verification confirmed it, two independent visual reviews passed where the change is visible, and a full CI run on this branch passed before this PR was opened: https://github.com/devswha/herdr-web-ui/actions/runs/39705302756

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Claude session history is tied to the pane and store used to open it.
    • Resume opens sessions from their listed store, or opens the pane already showing that session.
  • Improvements
    • When a pane’s store can’t be verified or resuming isn’t supported, the history view explains why and marks Resume unavailable.
    • If the store changes during a resume attempt, the session list refreshes and keeps the affected row in focus.
    • On older remote bridges, Claude session resuming may be unavailable.

Claude history listings now use pane-specific store information when available. A new resume route validates the pane and store before opening an existing session or launching Claude. The client, demo, tests, and documentation cover store-aware listing and resume behavior.

Changes: Claude session history and resume

Layer / File(s) Summary
Claude store source detection
server/claude-store.ts, server/claude-store.test.ts
Store detection distinguishes overrides, absent values, identified stores, unreadable sources, and ambiguous sources. Store resolution returns launch settings and a store identity key.
Pane-bound history and resume routes
shared/protocol.ts, server/session-history-routes.ts, server/index.ts, server/machine-api.ts, site/demo/transport.ts, server/session-history.test.ts, server/api.contract.test.ts
History requests can identify a pane and return a store-bound resume source. Resume requests validate the source and session, then return an existing pane or create a Claude tab. Protocol types, server wiring, demo routes, and tests cover these flows.
Client history and store-aware resume
src/lib/actions.ts, src/lib/api.ts, src/lib/machineContext.tsx, src/lib/sessionHistory.ts, src/lib/useRecentResumes.ts, src/App.tsx, src/components/SessionHistory.tsx, src/components/SessionHistory.css, src/lib/sessionHistory.test.ts, src/lib/i18n/workspace.*.ts
The client passes the source pane to history requests and matches Claude rows by pane and store. A stale source triggers a reread while retaining rows and focus. Recent-resume records distinguish stores, and rows without a usable source show resume as unavailable.
Demo fixtures, browser checks, and documentation
scripts/session-history-fixture-data.ts, scripts/session-history-fixture.tsx, scripts/session-history-browser-qa.ts, DESIGN.md, changelog.d/claude-history-store.md
Demo fixtures model Claude rows from separate stores and an older bridge. Browser checks cover pane-bound requests, stale-source rereads, unavailable resume, and duplicate clicks. Design and changelog text describe the behavior.

Resume on a very slow Claude start can report a network error even though the tab is created. A repeat click could then start a duplicate session. This is a narrow edge case, and restarting the timeout before the store check fixes it.

## Change

Release 0.4.13: everything merged since 0.4.12 (136 commits, 109
changelog entries). Metadata only; no code changes in this PR.

Left out of this release on purpose (still open): #1542, #1597, #1598,
#1579, and the outside contributors' PRs not yet reviewed or held (#1427
#1442 #1516 #1520 #1521 #1527 #1528 #1530 #1540 #1560 #1629 #1632
#1634).

### Metadata
- `package.json` and `herdr-plugin.toml`: 0.4.13.
- CHANGELOG: 87 `changelog.d/` fragments folded into `[0.4.13] -
2026-10-22` by `scripts/changelog-fold.ts`, with `by @login` credits on
the 36 links of outside contributors' PRs; `changelog.d/` holds only
README.md. Docs/test-only PRs without a fragment (#1395-#1398, #1439,
#1440) are not listed, as before.
- `release-summaries.json`: 0.4.13 in en/ko/ja/zh (8 new, 6 improved, 8
fixed; equal in every language, each <= 90 chars). The first line tells
that the app is now called Ovis (#1454) and installs and updates as
before.
- `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` 31 -> 32: `server/` and `shared/` changed
since remote-v31.
- Telemetry: `telemetry/worker.ts` and `shared/telemetry.ts` are
unchanged since the recorded deploy, so no Worker redeploy.

### After merge
1. Push `remote-v32` on the merge commit and wait for **Remote PC
bundles** to publish it.
2. Merge nothing touching `server/`, `shared/`, `bun.lock` or `patches/`
until the Release run is done.
3. `gh workflow run release.yml --ref main -f version=0.4.13`.

## Validation
- `bun scripts/release-guards.ts`: "Release 0.4.13: remote bundle,
telemetry Worker and release metadata are in order."
- `bun scripts/release-notes.ts 0.4.13` renders the three English lists
and the folded changelog.

### Added
- Claude Code, grok and Antigravity messages in Chat offer Rewind in
terminal: it sends nothing,
preserves your draft and opens the pane's terminal with a hint to run
the agent's own `/rewind`.
Chat follows the native conversation when the agent records its new
branch.
  ([#1500](#1500))
- Chat sends wait while Claude Code's rewind dialog is open in the
terminal, so a message cannot
  land in the dialog's own text field.
  ([#1500](#1500))
- Sending a bare `/goal` to Claude Code from Chat now shows its goal
status (the condition and how
long it has run, or that no goal is set) in a card with Close, instead
of leaving the dialog in
  the terminal.
  ([#1450](#1450))
- Command Code (`cmd`) agent panes now show their conversation in the
web UI: transcript
resolution from `~/.commandcode/projects/`, `/tree` branch projection,
model and context
window from Command Code's catalog, permission prompts, and skill
discovery.
([#1399](#1399) by
@diegolhambi)
- An ordinary command sent from Chat says what became of it under its
bubble, from evidence only:
accepted, waiting for your answer (with a way to the card), done with
what showed it, runs in
the terminal (with Open Terminal), or no result seen. A command the
agent keeps no transcript
  turn for still shows its sent row. A terminal screen that
changed after the send folds under the chip as an unconfirmed preview,
never proof that the
command finished. Terminal-only commands instead leave one quiet row
with Ran in terminal and
Open Terminal, without outcome chips or unconfirmed previews. Hermes
informational result cards
  keep showing what the agent printed.
  ([#1450](#1450))
- Settings → Terminal → Follow herdr's focus: when herdr moves to
another pane (a click in its
window, `herdr tab focus`, a script), this device opens that pane too.
Off by default, and set per
  device, so a phone open on another pane stays there.
  ([#1432](#1432))
- Hermes `/help`, `/status`, `/version`, `/profile` and `/reload-skills`
sent from Chat show what
Hermes printed in a card closed with Dismiss, which sends nothing to the
pane.
  ([#1450](#1450))
- Chat lists the commands and skills an OpenCode v2 pane's own
background service reports for its
folder, refreshed when they change, and settles a command it sent from
that session's own events.
The service is only read, never started, and only when it is the process
its service.json names.
  ([#1489](#1489))
- An `@skill` sent from Chat to OpenCode v2, at once or queued, is typed
through OpenCode's own
autocomplete so the skill is attached; when the row does not show, the
message says the skill
  went as plain text and points to the terminal.
  ([#1489](#1489))
- An OpenCode 1.x question is a card in Chat with each option and its
description, answered from
  the card.
  ([#1489](#1489))
- Chat lists a Codex pane's skills as the running Codex daemon of that
pane's own Codex home reports
them (Codex 0.157 or later; on Linux, or when the server's Codex home is
set), and a gjc pane's
skills as the SDK broker it is bound to reports them, asked through the
gjc CLI in the background.
The daemon and the broker are never started for this; without one, the
skills read from disk stay.
  ([#1489](#1489))
- New workspace and New tab start an agent with its model, effort and
first message where the
agent's command line takes them (Claude Code and Codex: `--model` and
the effort level; Codex also
takes the message as its own argument, behind `--` so a message like
`logout` is never a command).
For Claude Code and every other agent the message is queued on the PC as
the pane's first pending
message and sent once when the agent is ready, through the page that
started it; it shows as a
pending message that can be discarded or sent now. If that page
disconnects, reloads or leaves the tab
first, the message is held, never sent on its own, until someone sends
it now or discards it. A message the PC
could not queue, or one an older PC ignores, stays in the new tab's
message box and the dialog says
so. Pending first messages are kept in memory: restarting the web UI's
server drops them. A Codex
message with a tab or a line break is sent as the first message rather
than on its command line,
and the PC refuses launch arguments with control characters, an unknown
effort level or a model
  that is not one word. Under the message, the agent's skills in the
folder are listed before it runs, each a chip that puts the skill as the
agent types it into the
message (`$name`, `/name`, or `@name` for OpenCode 2). A first message
to OpenCode attaches its
`@skill` as any Chat send does; before OpenCode has a session nothing
tells its version, so the `@`
  is sent as the plain text it is.
In a desktop window the chat's composer can show a New tab with an
agent… button that opens the
dialog on the pane's workspace; it is off until turned on in Settings →
Chat → Composer (New tab
  button), and the tab menu opens the dialog either way.
  ([#1512](#1512))
- omp's `/handoff` runs from Chat, with or without focus instructions:
while omp writes the
handoff document, Chat shows a card that cancels it, and afterwards Chat
stays on the same
  conversation, which omp compacts in place.
  ([#1450](#1450))
- omp's model picker shows in the chat as a card, as Claude Code's,
Codex's and OmO's lists do: pick
a model and it is picked for the session, the model in use named on the
card. `/model` sent from
an omp chat opens it: the chat sends it as `/switch`, because omp's own
`/model` opens its role
  hub, whose picks are saved as the default for later sessions.
([#1377](#1377) by
@evanwy0223)
- OpenCode 2.0 or later: its questions are answered from the chat's
prompt card through OpenCode's
own background service instead of keystrokes, one question at a time
with Back to change an earlier
answer, and sent together after the last. Permissions, OpenCode 1 and
other prompts keep the
  existing generic fallback card and Terminal.
([#1257](#1257) by
@bardiz12)
- HTTP requests and WebSocket handshakes now carry request IDs and write
bounded completion
records in the app's state directory, so the owner can correlate a
response with its request.
  ([#1558](#1558))
- A workspace's row menu has Earlier sessions…: the sessions each agent
kept for the workspace's
folder, read from the agent's own store on the PC, newest first with the
title, the first prompt
and the time. Resume starts the agent on that session in a new tab of
the workspace; a session a
pane already shows is opened by selecting that pane instead. Picking
`/resume` in the chat's menu
opens the same list, and the terminal command's row offers it. A PC
whose bridge cannot list
  sessions yet has no such item.
  ([#1494](#1494))
- Agent rows show what herdr plugins report on a pane, such as the Quota
plugin's usage left or a
task's progress, in a small dim line under the row. They follow the
`$name` tokens of your herdr
`[ui.sidebar.agents]` rows (every token where none are set), change
live, and say a long value
whole in the tooltip and in a phone's ⋯ sheet. A line a plugin reports
for the agent now updates
  as soon as herdr says it.
  ([#1341](#1341))
- `HERDR_WEB_TAILSCALE_HTTPS_PORT` names the HTTPS port the installer
publishes the app on with
`tailscale serve`, so 443 can stay free for something else. Settings →
Phone & devices suggests
that port too. When another service already uses it, the installer stops
and says so instead of
taking another port, which would move the address an installed app
opens.
  ([#1433](#1433))

### Changed
- The chat's `/` menu lists the commands that run in the terminal apart,
last, under Terminal
commands, each with a Terminal badge, as the PC's command catalog
describes them. Pick or type
one and send it normally: once accepted, the pane's own terminal opens
over the chat, in this
browser only, while the chat stays where you were reading and the pane
stays on Chat. A head
says what ran, with Back to Chat and Keep Terminal; the header's Chat,
Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+J and a
phone's Back return too, and Escape goes to the agent. On a desktop the
message box stays under
the terminal, dimmed; on a phone the key bar takes its place. Claude
Code's panels (`/config`,
`/permissions`, `/theme` and the like) can bring the chat back by
themselves when you close them,
once Claude records it; other agents' recorded screens do once their
input row is back, and the
  rest return by hand. A Ran in terminal row's
Open Terminal shows the terminal over the chat again. Busy commands stay
queued; only an
explicit Send now opens the terminal, never automatic delivery. Refused
sends keep their draft
and note. Watch-only devices never send or open it, and /resume still
opens Earlier sessions.
Commands the agent's own menu hides are not listed, but still go when
typed by hand.
  ([#1441](#1441))
- For an OpenCode pane whose skills are `@` attachments, the `@` menu
lists them under Skills
  before the files, and picking one inserts the skill's id.
  ([#1441](#1441))
- Growing OMP and Claude Code tasks now parse appended transcript
records incrementally, reducing
repeated work when long chats refresh while preserving tool results,
notices and history resets.
Live parser state shares Codex's bounded cache; earlier responses stay
unchanged as new records arrive.
([#1561](#1561) by
@Yoonwoo-Ha)
- The app is now called Ovis across the browser, install messages and
documentation, matching
the phone apps. Existing installs, settings, plugin identifiers and
update channels stay the same.
  ([#1454](#1454))
- A question card whose screen reads keep failing now says it may be out
of date ("Not updated: the
question on screen may have changed.") until a read answers again.
Answering stays safe: the
server reads the screen again first and refuses a changed question
(#1335).
([#1360](#1360) by @Noobear)
- The Earlier sessions dialog picks the agent from the same list as the
New tab and New worktree
dialogs, each agent with its icon and the chevron spaced as the app's
other controls, instead of
  a plain select whose arrow sat at the far edge.
  ([#1573](#1573))
- A finished agent opened in one browser is read in every browser of the
same server: opening it
on the phone clears its DONE dot on the desktop too, and the other way
around.
  ([#1463](#1463))
- Remove PC has a restrained red background and border before and after
its confirmation step,
retaining visible keyboard focus and the explicit second click to remove
the registration.
([#1394](#1394) by @snowykr)
- After a terminal command sent from Chat, Codex, omp, pi, gjc, OmO,
Hermes (classic CLI), Devin,
agy and Grok bring the chat back by themselves when you close the picker
or panel it opened,
once the agent's own empty input row is back on the screen. Only the
commands each agent was
recorded doing that for count (Codex's `/permissions`, omp's
`/settings`, Grok's `/resume` and
the like); print forms, toggles, editor handoffs, Codex's `/side` and
`/btw`, OpenCode and
  anything unrecorded still return by hand.
  ([#1637](#1637))

### Fixed
- The New session and History pickers show Hermes, Grok, Antigravity,
Devin and Command Code by
  their own names instead of their lowercase ids.
  ([#1543](#1543))
- The terminal attach process and its Node host no longer inherit the
server's `HERDR_WEB_TOKEN`
environment variable; they keep the socket path and the rest of their
environment.
  ([#1562](#1562))
- Choosing Jump to latest remembers bottom-follow before the virtual
list scroll completes.
Switching to Terminal immediately after that choice and returning to
Chat no longer restores
the older reading position. This fixes explicit Jump-to-latest intent,
not arbitrary upward
  restoration on long, active or reasoning-heavy tabs.
([#1346](#1346) by
@Yoonwoo-Ha)
- Remember bottom-follow without measuring rendered rows or looking up a
turn anchor; readers away
  from the end retain the existing paragraph-and-offset restoration.
([#1346](#1346) by
@Yoonwoo-Ha)
- Selecting and copying chat text now preserves the text as shown
instead of adding Markdown
syntax. Rich-text paste and the whole-answer MD and TXT copy actions
remain available.
  ([#1409](#1409))
- Chat no longer treats a command that leaves the agent waiting in a
screen Chat cannot show as an
ordinary send. Claude Code's `/usage`, `/cost`, `/status`, `/help`,
`/memory`, `/mcp` and
`/add-dir`, Codex's `/new` and `/fork` in a repository, `/cd`, `/usage`,
`/copy` and `/side`,
and the panels, pickers, confirmations and editors of omp, gjc, OmO,
Hermes, Devin,
Antigravity, OpenCode and Command Code are now Terminal commands: sent,
they open Terminal with
Back to Chat. A value typed with a picker command, such as `/fast off`
or `/export notes.md`,
  stays an ordinary send.
  ([#1596](#1596))
- A Claude Code skill or custom command named like a built-in command
(`/compact`, say) is listed
once in the composer's command menu, as the skill Claude runs, instead
of beside the built-in.
  ([#1441](#1441))
- Reconnects and unconfirmed sends can leave a bounded browser-side
diagnostic trail on this
server, without recording messages, credentials, addresses or terminal
output.
([#1357](#1357) by
@christi4nity)
- The chat and the session history now apply one rule to Codex rollouts:
a subagent's rollout (one
naming a parent thread or an agent role), an exec run's, or one whose
ids are null or contradict
its file name is no longer read as a pane's conversation or offered to
resume, while older
rollouts without those fields still are. A rollout whose first line is
longer than the chat or
  the history reads is left out instead of read unchecked.
  ([#1592](#1592))
- Two Codex panes in one folder whose answers are short each show their
own chat again with Codex
0.163, which starts a thread in the same second as its process; before,
both said the
  conversation was unavailable about as often as not.
([#1522](#1522) by
@jiaoew1991)
- A Codex pane with only short answers still finds its chat after
another pane in the same folder
runs `/new`: a thread that pane shows a long answer of under its first
prompt, is bound to, or
  that herdr reports for it no longer leaves this pane unsure.
([#1522](#1522) by
@jiaoew1991)
- Of two Codex panes in one folder with short answers, the one started
first finds its chat too
once the other shows its own first exchange, where it said the
conversation was unavailable.
([#1522](#1522) by
@jiaoew1991)
- On a phone, a composer notice's actions (such as the `/resume`
notice's Earlier sessions, Open
Terminal and Run in Terminal) wrap onto their own line, and its dismiss
button stays visible
  instead of being cut off at the edge.
  ([#1543](#1543))
- Wrapped and multiline message drafts are sized with an out-of-flow
measurement field instead of
collapsing the live input, preserving transcript spacing and the
paragraph being read (#1337).
([#1347](#1347) by
@Yoonwoo-Ha)
- The measurement field shares the live input's Korean, Japanese and
Chinese line-breaking rules,
including Korean placeholder wrapping, so localized drafts keep their
natural height.
([#1347](#1347) by
@Yoonwoo-Ha)
- Local Herdr timeouts, machine connection failures and recoveries, and
abnormal WebSocket closes
now leave timestamped, rate-limited diagnostic records without logging
input or credentials.
([#1356](#1356) by
@christi4nity)
- The browser connection trace no longer re-posts a batch the server
refuses with a 4xx status,
resumes reporting after you sign in again on the same page, and
malformed reports can no longer
  use up the server's shared report quota.
  ([#1423](#1423))
- Pairing a device, renaming or revoking one, and the web push key and
subscriptions are now
flushed to disk before they replace the previous file, so a crash or
power cut right after the
change is much less likely to bring back a revoked device or make every
phone subscribe to
alerts again. How much survives a power cut still depends on the disk
and filesystem honouring
  the flush; on Windows the folder itself is not flushed.
  ([#1568](#1568))
- File search and path lookup no longer run a repository's fsmonitor
hook, follow Git variables
the server was started with, or wait on a Git listing that never ends: a
listing past 16 MiB
  or 3 seconds, or one cut off mid-name, falls back to the folder walk.
  ([#1570](#1570))
- **Files → Changes** no longer runs a program named `false` found on
`PATH` with Git 2.35 or
older, and reads the repository asked about even when the server was
started with
  `GIT_COMMON_DIR` set.
  ([#1570](#1570))
- Keep sidebar status updates responsive after many completed turns by
caching read finishes and
bounding their in-memory history instead of repeatedly scanning browser
storage.
  ([#1536](#1536))
- A first message from New workspace or New tab no longer waits forever
when the agent started for
it quits before the message goes: it is held for Send now or Discard.
The same happens when an
agent of the same kind that the user starts later comes up instead, and
when the page that sent it
leaves the pane while it is being typed, so the pane's other queued
messages are not stuck behind it.
On native Windows the PC sees only the pane's shell, so it cannot tell
that the agent quit: there the
  message keeps waiting until you discard it.
  ([#1532](#1532))
- GJC Chat hides internal agent-to-agent IRC messages and automatic
replies, while keeping user
  messages that quote them visible.
  ([#1535](#1535))
- GJC questions using the Nerd Font selection cursor now show their
actual choices in chat
instead of only Up, Down, Enter and Esc controls. Moving the cursor
preserves the question's
  identity and uses the current selection when answering.
([#1553](#1553) by
@Kinetic27)
- GJC chats on a busy machine give cold session lookups up to five
seconds per command and
ten seconds overall instead of timing out after two seconds per command.
Session snapshots
  retain the shorter status lookup budget; failed status lookups
  are held for 30 seconds without preventing chat reads from retrying.
([#1364](#1364) by @sskys18)
- GJC chat and status reuse their verified session binding when other
sessions write heartbeats,
instead of restarting the SDK lookup for every pane. Session changes
still require SDK validation.
  ([#1343](#1343))
- Grok keeps Chat with older sessions open and uses Terminal when the
session is uncertain.
([#1352](#1352) by
@infowolfe)
- One failed health check no longer shows herdr offline or switches a
Windows PC's panes to the
terminal lens: the header says Status unknown with the last herdr it
saw, and herdr unavailable only
  after a second failure in a row.
  ([#1581](#1581))
- A malformed, oversized or misaddressed answer from herdr now fails
only the request it answers,
with a clear error, instead of hanging until the timeout, growing the
server's memory or being
taken as another request's answer; event subscriptions report such a
frame and close.
  ([#1584](#1584))
- Hermes `/status` sent from Chat now shows its result card on the first
send in a new pane too, even
when the computer is busy. A send whose result was missed no longer
leaves every later `/status` in
that pane without a card for ten minutes. The same holds when another
device has the terminal
  scrolled up.
  ([#1543](#1543))
- Sending Hermes `/status` (or another informational command) from Chat
again now shows that send's
own result card each time, instead of "Runs in the terminal" once
earlier identical results fill
  the terminal.
  ([#1543](#1543))
- Slow API requests can return their result or timeout error instead of
losing the HTTP connection
  while bounded Herdr calls are still running.
([#1355](#1355) by
@christi4nity)
- The app can be installed behind a reverse proxy that signs in every
request (Authelia,
oauth2-proxy and the like): the browser now sends its cookies with the
manifest request.
([#1332](#1332) by
@ascandroli)
- Mouse wheel and phone swipes scroll terminal history on Windows and
other mirrored panes;
  read-only connections still only pan their local grid.
([#1446](#1446) by
@Davesaggio)
- A Codex started in a terminal shows its model and reasoning level
before the first message,
  from Codex's live footer, while the chat shows the terminal output.
([#1374](#1374) by
@evanwy0223)
- Before the first message, a model switched in the terminal shows in
the message box once the
supported agent draws it. omp still waits for its transcript to record
the model; the bridge
never runs `omp models`, which can refresh the CLI's OAuth credentials.
([#1374](#1374) by
@evanwy0223)
- A pane that runs OmO is now treated as OmO by the composer even while
herdr labels it Claude
(OmO's Claude child is running): sending a message no longer stops on a
Claude input-box draft
  refusal or tries to clear a Claude draft there.
  ([#1441](#1441))
- A multi-line message sent to an OmO pane that herdr has no agent label
for is now pasted as one
bracketed paste instead of line by line, so its first line is no longer
sent alone.
  ([#1441](#1441))
- An OmO pick list (an extension's select, such as the init-deep
advisor's "Run now / Skip this
time / Never…") shows in the chat as a card with its own options again,
instead of a "Waiting for
input" card offering only ↑, ↓, Enter and Esc. A pick list that counts
down in its title keeps
the same card while it ticks, so an answer tapped a second later is not
refused as stale.
([#1495](#1495) by
@nahwan-kim)
- An omp pane started with an absolute `--cwd` shows its chat when herdr
names no session file
and the directory herdr reports is not omp's own, such as the shell's or
a symlink's real path:
the session is still looked up in the directory herdr reports first,
then under that `--cwd`.
  ([#1594](#1594))
- A message or command sent from the chat to an omp that is still
starting no longer stays typed
in its input box: omp shows the box before it takes an Enter, so the
send waits until herdr's omp
integration reports the session (omp does so once it takes input), for
an omp started moments ago.
  ([#1475](#1475))
- A new OpenCode 2 pane offers your project and user skills as `@`
attachments before its first
session starts, using the OpenCode version the PC's install reports,
instead of listing them as
OpenCode 1 `/` commands. Once the pane has a session, that session's
version decides as before.
  ([#1543](#1543))
- Native question answers stay bound to the current pane, session and
form. Local service discovery
rejects stale or non-loopback endpoints, bypasses environment proxies,
and bounds slow requests.
([#1257](#1257) by
@bardiz12)
- Polling does not invalidate an unchanged question or turn an
acknowledged answer into an error.
A temporary service outage keeps an already displayed native card and
its unsent edits.
([#1257](#1257) by
@bardiz12)
- Back and question tabs preserve unsent edits, and multiselect
submissions include both checks
and custom text. Abandoned drafts are bounded and expire after 30
minutes.
([#1257](#1257) by
@bardiz12)
- OpenCode question cards keep edits and allow immediate retries after a
failed reply, and optional
questions can be skipped. Unrelated service metadata no longer resets a
form's progress.
  ([#1421](#1421))
- Answers sent from the message box show the translated warning when
OpenCode has not confirmed
delivery. Native service connections accept only the loopback addresses
127.0.0.1 and [::1].
  ([#1421](#1421))
- Subscription usage reads OpenCode 2's own credential store before the
`auth.json` OpenCode 1
wrote. OpenCode 2 keeps its provider sign-ins in `opencode.db` and
leaves that file standing with
the key it has since replaced, so the OpenCode card reported "Sign-in
expired" for a CLI that was
signed in and working. The store's active key answers first, and a store
without one (signed out of
OpenCode 2) shows no card; the file still answers beside OpenCode 1's
store, or with none.
([#1329](#1329) by
@krish-kant)
- `GET /api/pane/read` takes `lines` only as plain decimal digits from 0
to 4294967295 and refuses
any other value (blank, signed, fractional, exponent or too large) with
400 `invalid_lines`
instead of passing it to herdr; a blank value is no longer read as zero.
Every count herdr
  takes still goes through unchanged.
  ([#1571](#1571))
- A pasted or dropped PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP image is saved with the
extension of what its bytes
are, not the one its file name suggests, and a file that only claims to
be one of those images
is refused with its reason instead of being saved for the agent to read.
  ([#1599](#1599))
- The phone header's Chat/Terminal switch keeps clear of the bar's top
and bottom edges in both
densities: its options take the density's segmented height, so its track
is 34px tall in the 52px bar
and 32px in the compact density's 46px bar, which it used to nearly
touch.
([#1519](#1519) by
@adnankassem)
- On a phone, the header's Chat/Terminal switch centers its icons and no
longer touches the header's
bottom rule (in compact density it was as tall as the bar). The buttons
still take a full
  44 px tap.
([#1367](#1367) by @Noobear)
- A pi chat now shows its context ring for models pi lists in its
commandcode cache or model
  store, not only for providers defined in `models.json`.
([#1391](#1391) by
@diegolhambi)
- Model and effort pickers no longer confirm a stale choice when the
agent stops waiting for the
  answer during the final screen read.
  ([#1435](#1435))
- A Portal that stops on its own after its address was up is started
again once, on the same relay
and address, and Settings → Phone & devices says Recovering… meanwhile;
a second stop shows the
error with Portal's output instead of leaving the address down without a
word or restarting it
  again.
  ([#1587](#1587))
- When the server cannot save a shared setting or pin, Settings now says
the change is not on the
server yet, that reloading or closing the page can undo it, and offers
Retry. After three failed
saves in a row the browser resends less often (after a minute, then up
to every five minutes)
until you press Retry or the connection reopens, and edits made
meanwhile are kept. A late resend
of a refused change no longer overwrites a newer value another device
saved meanwhile, while a
setting you pick again after the refusal still wins. While the
connection is lost it waits for it
to come back instead of resending, and a connection the browser gives up
on (for example a proxy
error while the server restarts) is opened again, so alerts and other
devices' changes no longer
  stop arriving until a reload.
  ([#1595](#1595))
- A damaged or unreadable shared preferences or read-finish file is no
longer lost to the next
change. Reading never touches it; the first change moves the damaged
file, byte for byte, to
`preferences.json.bad` or `seen.json.bad` (private to you, the latest
damaged copy only), a file
repaired by hand while the server runs is kept with the change added to
it, and a file that
cannot be read or set aside is not written over, so the change fails
instead.
  ([#1564](#1564))
- A server or remote bridge that crashed no longer blocks its restart
when its old process number
now belongs to another program: startup locks and the bridge registry
record the owner's start
  identity, and that other program is never signalled.
  ([#1567](#1567))
- Attaching to a terminal once again waits for input to be ready before
signalling completion,
preserving queued keys, clicks and text and the order of Stop followed
by a message.
  ([#1342](#1342))
- Opening a finished agent's terminal while its connection to herdr is
being restored no longer
clears its DONE dot from the screen left over from before: it clears
once the terminal shows
  current output.
  ([#1472](#1472))
- An oversized or unreadable answer from another PC's bridge is now
refused at a fixed size
instead of being held whole in memory: connecting, refreshing and the PC
proxy stop reading it,
report a short error in the user's language that repeats none of it, and
a watching device
  never gets a prompt that could not be redacted.
  ([#1588](#1588))
- Opening a pane in another tab or on a phone, or reconnecting, no
longer copies again to the
clipboard what a program in the pane copied before; its new copies still
reach the clipboard.
  ([#1600](#1600))
- Update and restart, and the header's Update, install exactly the
release they offered: a release
published in the meantime installs nothing and is shown to be checked
first, and a server whose
supervisor cannot install by revision asks for a restart instead of
installing.
  ([#1590](#1590))
- In macOS Safari, Backspace in a terminal no longer skips a press after
deleting the last letter of
a Korean syllable: 한 then four Backspaces now also deletes the character
before it.
  ([#1363](#1363))
- Chat shows only the current agent session's command results: after an
agent restarts in the same
pane, the earlier session's commands no longer appear. A `/clear`,
`/new` or resume sent from Chat
keeps its own row in the conversation it starts, without claiming that
it finished. Commands sent
before an agent's first reply stay with that agent while it keeps
running, also through a moment
in the background (Ctrl+Z on Linux and macOS); once a different agent
takes over the pane, they
are hidden, even if Chat was not open when it happened. A command sent
to a restarted agent while
the pane still shows the previous session stays once the agent's own
session appears within a
minute, unless Chat started another session after it. Within that
minute, a session change typed
in the terminal of an agent that resumed the same session can still keep
such a command. Where
Chat cannot find the agent's program at all (native Windows, or an agent
started under another
program name), such a command stays with the session that the same agent
starts in the same
terminal; a later session, another agent or terminal still hides it.
Outside Linux, an agent
restarted under the same process number cannot be told apart from the
one before it.
  ([#1543](#1543))
- SSH PC management controls now stay within narrow sidebars: the rename
field and action buttons
  reflow in place, and long labels wrap without clipping.
([#1392](#1392) by @snowykr)
- Opening a finished pane clears its DONE dot only after its answer or
terminal output is
actually visible. Covered panes, loading or failed chats, and terminal
reconnections keep
  unread finishes marked.
  ([#1342](#1342))
- Reading older chat keeps the finish unread. Jumping to the latest
answer clears it only
after the jump arrives; small scrolls above the end show the way back.
Resizing and restoring
  a short chat work without an extra scroll.
  ([#1342](#1342))
- An older answer cannot clear a newer finish. Agents whose chat cannot
prove completion keep
the dot conservatively; opening their Terminal view can acknowledge the
output.
  ([#1342](#1342))
- Read finishes stay read across pane switches and browser tabs on the
same device. Every
web-server restart or update brings read DONE dots back; read records
are not carried across
  server restarts.
  ([#1342](#1342))
- The sidebar's PC control buttons are the standard control height
again, Rename shares the name
field's row in a wide sidebar, Remove PC dims like its neighbours while
a rename or disconnect
runs, and danger buttons keep their red tint on hover everywhere in the
app.
  ([#1422](#1422))
- Documents opened through copied read links keep their own scroll area
at desktop widths,
rather than expanding beyond the window and leaving scrolling to the
page.
([#1586](#1586) by
@Kinetic27)
- A Markdown table whose separator has a one- or two-dash cell
(`|---|:-:|`) shows as a table in the
  chat, as on GitHub, instead of as its pipe-separated source.
([#1361](#1361) by @Noobear)
- Going back to the chat while a terminal command's screen is still open
(Claude Code's `/btw`
answer, a picker left up) no longer lets the next message from the
message box be typed into
that screen and do nothing, for Claude Code and the agents above (not
OpenCode): the composer
says the command is still open in the terminal, with Show terminal, and
Send (or a queued
message's Send now) keeps the message until the screen closes or you
choose Send anyway.
  ([#1637](#1637))
- Opening the app no longer flashes the dark amber default before your
saved theme: the saved light,
dark or single-mode theme (Dracula on the light side stays dark),
including System and older saved
palettes, is drawn from the first frame, and the installed app's title
bar color matches it at once.
  ([#1569](#1569))
- Settings → Updates no longer tells you to switch to main when the
server was started from an
installed update's folder instead of its source checkout: it now says to
restart the app from
  the source checkout, which is what lets updates run again.
  ([#1417](#1417))
- Typing or composing text in a wide mirrored terminal no longer pulls
the view sideways.
Windows terminal wheel panning stays in place when output arrives, and
tapping the terminal
  without scrolling no longer changes shared history.
  ([#1534](#1534))
- Loading the page no longer sends about 33 requests per workspace
folder to find its project icon:
each folder is asked once (`GET /api/fs/favicon`), and a folder without
an icon is an answer, not
a 404. A reverse proxy with a rate limit no longer answers 429 to the
burst, and the browser
console no longer fills with red 404 lines on every load. A 429 is no
longer remembered as "no
  icon" either: the folder is asked again when its row next appears.
  ([#1339](#1339))
- A dragged workspace order no longer jumps back while its moves are
still landing: a roster read
before the move, a cached roster or another PC's update cannot undo it,
and the first roster
read after the move (another browser's later order included) replaces
it. A remote PC does this
once its bridge is updated to the next release; until then it keeps the
earlier behaviour.
  ([#1593](#1593))

### Maintenance
- Composer geometry regressions freeze the demo conversation while
keeping it idle, so turn
completion cannot change the transcript during measurements on phone and
desktop.
([#1347](#1347) by
@Yoonwoo-Ha)
- Settings and PWA draft checks target the visible input explicitly;
locale regressions cover
  native draft and placeholder heights on phone and desktop.

## Change

How PRs get reviewed while CodeRabbit cannot keep up with the rebrand
and the coming refactor:

- **Skipped reviews.** A skipped review ("Review skipped", e.g. a PR of
more than 150 files) counts as no review, like a rate-limited one. A PR
that needs a review stays under 150 files.
- **PRs that need a real review** (`--takeover`, observe permissions,
queued input, authentication, HTTP/WS contracts, workflows) can be
reviewed by a code-review agent when CodeRabbit skips them. Its findings
and how each was resolved go in a PR comment before the merge, as on
#1648.
- **Move-only PRs** (files moved or split, imports updated, no behaviour
change) do not wait for CodeRabbit. They merge on their checks once `git
diff --color-moved` shows only moved code and import paths.
- Every PR merged without a CodeRabbit review says so in a comment.
- `docs/development.md` no longer says every PR asks for `@coderabbitai
review` on its final head before merging; it points to AGENTS.md.

Why: in the last 25 PRs, CodeRabbit skipped the two over 150 files
(#1648 at 290, #1637's later pushes at 161) and was rate-limited on
three (#1592, #1597, #1598). The refactor is many move-only PRs, where a
review finds little and waiting on the hourly allowance costs hours.

Docs only; no changelog fragment (nothing users notice).

….*.ts (#1673)

First PR of the i18n split: the strings that only the Settings dialog's
files use move out of the three big dictionaries into
`src/lib/i18n/settings.{ko,ja,zh}.ts`. `t()`, the English keys, every
translation, placeholders, the English fallback and all call sites stay
the same.

## What changes

- **Moved:** 281 keys in each language. The entry lines are cut byte for
byte from `src/lib/i18n.{ko,ja,zh}.ts` and keep the order they had in
each language's file. A key moves only when every file that uses it is a
Settings file: `components/SettingsDialog.tsx` (with `THEME_NAMES`),
`components/KeyBarSettings.tsx`, `components/SettingsControls.tsx`,
`components/TelemetryControls.tsx` and `lib/paletteSettings.ts`. A key
another feature also uses stays in the base file, for example "Settings"
(also used in CommandPalette and MachineSidebar) and "Pin/Unpin agent"
(AgentSidebar). The `// ---- <area> ----` sections are not used to
decide ownership: the 281 keys come from 12 different sections.
- **Composition:** each base file renames its object to `BASE` and
exports `KO_PARTS` / `JA_PARTS` / `ZH_PARTS` (`{ base, settings }`).
`KO` / `JA` / `ZH` are built from those parts with `Object.assign` and
keep their names and paths, so `src/lib/i18n.ts` and the three scripts
that import them by path are untouched. The first sentence of each base
header now says what the base file holds.
- **`src/lib/i18n.test.ts`:**
- The scan for `t()` calls now skips `lib/i18n/`. The old file-name
regex does not match the part files, and a dictionary header contains
`t("…")`.
- New "dictionary parts" tests fail when a key is in two parts, since a
spread silently keeps only the last copy. They report the key and both
part names, and also check that the composed size equals the sum of the
parts.
- They also fail when the three languages keep a key in different parts,
or when a part file passes 400 lines.
- **`CONTRIBUTING.md`:** the UI text rule now says where a feature's new
strings go. A string only one feature's files use goes in that feature's
`src/lib/i18n/` files when it has them; any other string, or one a
second feature starts using, goes in the base files.

This is not a move-only PR: alongside the moved lines it adds the
composition, the tests and the docs rule. The following split PRs
(terminal, composer, chat, …; one at a time) will contain only moved
lines, one import and one parts entry per feature, and the part file
header.

## Key list

I regenerated the list on this branch's base, `dc70d60a`, with the
ownership script from the split plan. That script collects keys the same
way as `i18n.test.ts`: `t()`/`tt()` literals plus the 13 label maps,
recorded per file. The list is identical to the plan's list from
`8b5aaba2`, with no difference. Main moved only by #1672, which touches
no i18n file.

## Checks

- **Same dictionaries:** the composed `KO`, `JA` and `ZH` (every key and
value) dumped as sorted JSON on `dc70d60a` and on this branch are
byte-identical (`EQUIVALENT`).
- **Only moved lines plus the composition:** `git diff
--color-moved=plain origin/main...HEAD` over the six dictionary files
shows every entry line as moved. The 72 non-moved `+`/`-` lines, 24 per
language, are:
  - the import and a blank line;
  - the 1-line header sentence, rewrapped to 3 lines;
  - `export const KO … = {` → `const BASE … = {`;
  - the 8-line parts block and composition;
- the part file's 6-line header, its `export const` line and its closing
`};`.
- **Same keys moved:** the keys of `SETTINGS_KO`, `SETTINGS_JA` and
`SETTINGS_ZH` each equal the 281-key list (`SAME-KEYS` for ko, ja and
zh). The scan still finds all 1,389 keys, the same count as main.
- **Part sizes:** each part file is 289 lines. `i18n.ko.ts` goes from
1,449 to 1,180 lines, `i18n.ja.ts` from 1,451 to 1,182 and `i18n.zh.ts`
from 1,453 to 1,184.
- `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test src/lib/i18n.test.ts`: 21 pass, 0 fail.
The missing, unused, placeholder and untranslated tests still run on the
composed dictionaries.
- Before opening, the new tests were run against two deliberate
breakages in a throwaway copy. A base key added to `SETTINGS_KO` fails
with `Settings (base, settings)`. One key moved back to the ja base
fails the placement test.
- `bun run typecheck`: passes. Both tsconfigs compile, including the
three browser scripts that import `KO`/`JA`/`ZH`.
- `bun run check fast`: passes.

Nothing drops out of a check's scope: no test file moves,
`scripts/ci-tests.ts` finds tests with a recursive glob, and
`src/conventions.test.ts` scans `src/**/*.{ts,tsx}`, which includes
`src/lib/i18n/`.

## Overlap with open PRs

#1639, #1598 and #1427 also edit `src/lib/i18n.{ko,ja,zh}.ts`. None of
them changes any of the moved lines; all three only add keys. If one of
them merges first, this branch is rebased, the key list is regenerated,
and any new Settings-only key moves into the part. If this PR merges
first, a new Settings-only key goes in `settings.*.ts` under the new
CONTRIBUTING rule. #1639 adds strings to `SettingsDialog.tsx`, so its
keys are the likely case.

…n slice (#1686)

The first feature slice out of `server/index.ts` and
`shared/protocol.ts`: `GET /api/integrations` and its two types move
into their own files. Behaviour, path, status codes and messages stay
the same. The plan, with the ownership of every route and protocol type,
the order of the next slices, and this slice's risks, is
`.omo/plans/feature-slices-plan.md` in the maintainer's workspace.

This PR moves responsibility, so it is **not move-only** and takes the
normal review path.

## Why integrations first

It is the smallest family still written inline in `index.ts` (9 lines).
It has two protocol types, no state, no dependency on the server core,
and a live contract test that already checks its answer
(`server/api.contract.test.ts`, "lists herdr's integrations as
integration.list reports them, and refuses anything but GET"). The next
candidates, in plan order, are the agent catalog, plugins, background
tasks, plans and files.

## Two commits: the check first, then the move

1. **`test(server): pin GET /api/integrations before it moves`** adds
`server/integrations-routes.test.ts`. It runs in the unit lane without
herdr: it starts a real `createServer({ port: 0, hostname: "127.0.0.1",
stateDir: mkdtempSync(…), … })` and stubs `integrationList` with
`spyOn(herdr, "integrationList")`, the same seam `server/http.test.ts`
uses for `paneFind`. It pins:
- GET answers 200 with exactly `{ integrations: <what integration.list
returned> }`, including a state this build does not know;
- a `HerdrError("connect_failed")` answers 502 with that code and
message, and any other error answers 500 `internal_error` without its
text;
- a POST answers 400 `method_not_allowed` / `use GET` without asking
herdr.

   On unchanged code it gives **3 pass, 0 fail**.
2. **`refactor(server): move the integrations route and types into their
own slice`**
- **Moved:** the route branch (with its "read only" comment), unchanged,
into `handleIntegrationsRequest(request, pathname): Promise<Response |
null>` in the new `server/integrations-routes.ts`. This is the nullable
route pattern of `workspace-routes.ts` and `pane-routes.ts`: no state,
no dependency bag, and it imports `integrationList` and the HTTP helpers
directly.
- **Moved:** `AgentIntegration` and `IntegrationsResponse`, with their
doc comment, verbatim into the new `shared/integrations.ts`. That file
holds types only, with no imports and no values.
- **Stays in `index.ts`:** one call at the same place in the dispatch
order, after `/api/agents` and before `/api/fs/*`. Every access, origin,
watch and timeout gate before it, the `/api/machines/local` alias
allowlist and the machine proxy path list are untouched. The now-unused
`integrationList` and `IntegrationsResponse` imports are dropped.
- **Stays in `protocol.ts`:** `export type { AgentIntegration,
IntegrationsResponse } from "./integrations.ts";` at the old place, as
`protocol.ts` already does for the machine types. All seven existing
importers (`server/herdr/client.ts`, `server/api.contract.test.ts`,
`src/lib/api.ts`, `SettingsDialog.tsx`, `src/lib/integrations.ts` and
its test, `site/demo/transport.ts`) compile unchanged, so this PR does
not touch those shared files.

## Checks

- **The pinning test, after the move:** `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test
server/integrations-routes.test.ts server/http.test.ts
src/lib/integrations.test.ts` gives 41 pass, 0 fail; the pinning test
itself is unchanged between the two commits.
- **`--color-moved` on the move commit:** `git diff --color-moved=plain
--color-moved-ws=allow-indentation-change HEAD~1 HEAD -- server shared`
shows 71 lines as moved: the handler body (one indent level shallower in
its new file) and both interfaces. The 15 other lines are:
- in `index.ts`: the new import, the shortened protocol type import, the
dropped `integrationList` import, and the 2-line call;
- in the new route file: its 2-line header, 3 imports, the function's
doc comment and signature, and `return null`;
  - in `protocol.ts`: the type re-export.
- **Client imports:** `bun run typecheck` passes on both tsconfigs, so
every importer still compiles through the re-export. No file in `src/`
or `site/` imports `shared/integrations.ts`, so the client keeps its
type-only rule. `shared/integrations.ts` has no import and no value
export.
- **Sizes:** `server/index.ts` goes from 862 to 854 lines and
`shared/protocol.ts` from 1,522 to 1,503. The new modules are 22 and 20
lines.
- **Risks checked:**
- Import cycles: none new. The route imports only `herdr/client.ts` and
`http.ts`, and neither reaches `index.ts`.
- Initialization order: unchanged. The handler has no module state and
constructs nothing, so `server/startup-order.test.ts` still applies as
is.
- Environment reads: the protocol value exports are untouched, so no
environment read moves.
- `bun run check fast`: passes (unit 6131 pass, 0 fail, 12 skip in 435
files, 8 at a time, 57.7s).
- CI's integration lane runs the existing `api.contract.test.ts` case
against an isolated live herdr.

## Overlapping open PRs

Open PRs that touch these files: #1597 (`/api/agents` branch in
`index.ts`, ending about 8 lines above the integrations branch), #1598
(adds a session-resume path to the lists that mention
`/api/integrations`; it does not change them otherwise), and #1652,
#1442 and #1427 (other parts of `protocol.ts`). None of them changes the
moved lines, so any order works. Whichever merges second rebases; if
#1597 merges first and its context overlaps, the rebase keeps both
changes as they are.

…ce (#1687)

The next feature slice out of `server/index.ts` and
`shared/protocol.ts`, after the integrations pilot (#1686): the plugin
action routes and their types move into their own files. Behaviour,
paths, status codes and messages stay the same. The plan, with the order
and the risks, is `.omo/plans/feature-slices-plan.md` in the
maintainer's workspace.

The plan lists the agent catalog before plugins. It comes after this one
because the open fix #1597 changes the same `/api/agents` branch, and
the refactor brief says to fix first, then move.

This PR moves responsibility, so it is **not move-only**.

## Two commits: the check first, then the move

1. **`test(server): pin the plugin routes before they move`** adds
`server/plugin-routes.test.ts`. The existing route coverage is
`server/plugins.contract.test.ts`, which needs a live isolated herdr and
a disposable plugin registry, and `route-envelope.contract.test.ts` for
the gates. `plugin-actions.test.ts` covers the helpers but not the
routes. So the new test runs the routes in the unit lane without herdr:
a real `createServer({ port: 0, hostname: "127.0.0.1", stateDir:
mkdtempSync(…), … })`, with `pluginList`, `pluginActionList`,
`pluginLogList`, `pluginActionInvoke` and, in one case,
`sessionSnapshot` stubbed through `spyOn(herdr, …)`, as
`server/http.test.ts` does for `paneFind`. It pins:
   - **`GET /api/plugins/actions`:**
- each plugin with only this platform's actions (an action for another
platform is dropped; one with no platforms is kept);
- `description` null when missing, `contexts` `[]` when missing, and no
command line in the answer;
     - a POST is `400 method_not_allowed`.
   - **`GET /api/plugin/action`:**
     - a missing `plugin_id` or `log_id` is a 400;
- a known log answers its result (failed run: exit code and its own
words);
     - the log list is read with herdr's limit of 200;
     - an unknown log is `404 plugin_log_not_found`;
     - herdr's own error passes through (502).
   - **`POST /api/plugin/action`, validation before herdr is asked:**
- `invalid_json`, `missing_plugin_id`, `missing_action_id` and
`invalid_pane_id` are 400s;
     - a PUT is `400 method_not_allowed`;
     - in all of these, nothing is invoked.
   - **`POST /api/plugin/action`, runs:**
     - without a pane, herdr is invoked with no context;
- with a pane, herdr gets exactly `pluginPaneContext(snapshot, pane)`;
- with a pane that is not there, the answer is `404 pane_not_found` and
nothing is invoked.

   On unchanged code it gives **4 pass, 0 fail**.
2. **`refactor(server): move the plugin routes and types into their own
slice`**
   - **Moved into the new `server/plugin-routes.ts`:**
- the three branches, unchanged, as `handlePluginRequest(request, url,
pathname, options): Promise<Response | null>`, the nullable route
pattern of `workspace-routes.ts`, `pane-routes.ts` and
`integrations-routes.ts`;
- the three things only those branches used: `PLUGIN_PLATFORM`,
`PLUGIN_ACTION_WAIT_MS` and `livePaneIds`.
- **Moved into the new `shared/plugins.ts`:** the six plugin action
types (`PluginActionContext`, `PluginAction`, `PluginActions`,
`PluginActionsResponse`, `PluginActionRequest`, `PluginActionResult`),
verbatim with their doc comments. The file holds types only, with no
imports and no values.
- **Stays in `index.ts`:** one call at the same place in the dispatch
order, after the workspace routes and before the pane routes.
`createServer` still passes its `pluginActionWaitMs` option through
`options`. The access, origin, watch and timeout gates, the
`/api/machines/local` alias allowlist and the machine proxy path list
are untouched. The now-unused imports `HerdrError`, `readJsonObject`,
the four plugin RPCs, `PluginInvocationContext`, `PluginActionsResponse`
and the `plugin-actions.ts` helpers leave `index.ts`.
- **Stays in `protocol.ts`:** a type re-export of the six names, so
every importer compiles unchanged: `server/plugin-actions.ts`,
`server/plugins.contract.test.ts`, `src/lib/api.ts`,
`machineContext.tsx`, `pluginRun.ts`, `paletteSearch.ts`,
`CommandPalette.tsx`, `SettingsDialog.tsx` and `site/demo/transport.ts`.
This PR does not touch them.

## Checks

- **After the move:** `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test
server/plugin-routes.test.ts server/plugin-actions.test.ts
server/integrations-routes.test.ts src/lib/pluginRun.test.ts
src/lib/paletteSearch.test.ts` gives **46 pass, 0 fail**. The pinning
test is unchanged between the two commits.
- **`--color-moved` on the move commit:** `git diff --color-moved=plain
--color-moved-ws=allow-indentation-change HEAD~1 HEAD -- server shared`
shows 265 lines as moved: the three branches (one indent level shallower
in their new file), the three constants, both import lines that moved
with them, and the six types. The 21 other lines are:
  - in `index.ts`:
    - the shortened protocol import;
    - the `http.ts` import without `readJsonObject`;
    - the six dropped `herdr/client.ts` names;
    - the new `plugin-routes.ts` import;
    - the 2-line call.
  - in the new route file:
    - its 3-line header;
    - the types import and the `herdr/client.ts` import;
    - the function's doc comment and signature;
    - `return null`.
  - in `protocol.ts`: the re-export line.
- **Client imports:** `bun run typecheck` passes on both tsconfigs. No
file in `src/` or `site/` imports `shared/plugins.ts`.
`shared/plugins.ts` has no import and no value export.
- **Sizes:** `server/index.ts` goes from 854 to 778 lines and
`shared/protocol.ts` from 1,503 to 1,452. The new modules are 87 and 52
lines.
- **Risks checked:**
- Import cycles: none new. The route imports `herdr/client.ts`,
`http.ts` and `plugin-actions.ts`, none of which reaches `index.ts`.
- Initialization order: unchanged. The moved constants are pure, and
`PLUGIN_PLATFORM` reads `process.platform` as before. The handler
constructs nothing.
- `bun run check fast`: passes (unit 6135 pass, 0 fail, 12 skip in 436
files, 8 at a time, 57.7s).
- CI's integration lane runs `server/plugins.contract.test.ts` and
`route-envelope.contract.test.ts` against an isolated live herdr.

…r own slice (#1688)

The next feature slice out of `server/index.ts` and
`shared/protocol.ts`, after integrations (#1686) and plugins (#1687):
the background tasks route and its types move into their own files.
Behaviour, path, status codes and messages stay the same. The plan is
`.omo/plans/feature-slices-plan.md` in the maintainer's workspace.

The agent catalog slice is on hold: the open PR #1597 changes the same
`/api/agents` branch, and the refactor brief says the bug fix goes
first, then the move.

This PR moves responsibility, so it is **not move-only**.

## Three commits: the check first, then the move, then the branch the
move made testable

1. **`test(server): pin GET /api/pane/omo-tasks before it moves`** adds
`server/tasks-routes.test.ts`. The existing route coverage is live only:
`api.contract.test.ts` checks the missing pane and an unknown pane, and
`claude-session.contract.test.ts` checks a Claude Code pane's subagents.
The parsers have unit tests (`omo-tasks.test.ts`,
`claude-subagents.test.ts`). The new test runs the route itself in the
unit lane without herdr: a real `createServer({ port: 0, hostname:
"127.0.0.1", stateDir: mkdtempSync(…), … })` with `paneGet` stubbed
through `spyOn(herdr, "paneGet")`. It pins:
- a POST answers `400 method_not_allowed`, and a request without
`pane_id` answers `400 missing_pane_id`;
- a pane that runs neither OmO nor Claude Code answers 200 with no
tasks, no runs and a valid `server_time`, after asking herdr for that
pane;
- when herdr does not answer that pane lookup, the route still answers
200 with what it knows, once its 1-second bound (`within(1000, …)`) runs
out. That makes this test take about a second.

   On unchanged code it gives **3 pass, 0 fail**.
2. **`refactor(server): move the background tasks route and types into
their own slice`**
- **Moved:** the branch, unchanged, into `handleTasksRequest(request,
url, pathname, { omo, claudeAgents }): Promise<Response | null>` in the
new `server/tasks-routes.ts`. This is the nullable route pattern of the
earlier slices.
- **The trackers stay the core's:** `index.ts` passes the core's own
`omo` (`OmoStatus`) and `claudeAgents` (`ClaudeSubagentStatus`). The
route's type allows only the methods it calls (`sessionOf`, and `ensure`
on the Claude tracker), and it constructs nothing, so there is one
tracker each as before and startup order does not change.
- **Moved:** `OmoTask`, `OmoRunNode`, `OmoRun` and `OmoActivity`,
verbatim with their doc comments, into the new `shared/tasks.ts`. It
holds types only. `OmoTaskResult` stays in `protocol.ts`, because it is
conversation data.
- **Stays in `index.ts`:** one call at the same place in the dispatch
order, after the pane routes and before `/api/pane/plan`. The now-unused
`processAlive`, `omoTasks`, `omoRuns` and `claudeSubagents` imports
leave. `within` stays, because the plan route still uses it.
- **Stays in `protocol.ts`:** a type re-export of the four names, so
`server/omo-tasks.ts`, `server/claude-subagents.ts`,
`server/claude-session.contract.test.ts`, `src/lib/api.ts`,
`src/lib/omoTasks.ts` and its test, and `BackgroundTasks.tsx` compile
unchanged.
- **Also in this commit:** as the CI session asked after #1687, the
comment on `createServer`'s `pluginActionWaitMs` option now says
`PLUGIN_ACTION_WAIT_MS` lives in `server/plugin-routes.ts`.

3. **`test(server): cover the OmO branch of the tasks route`**, added
after CodeRabbit's nitpick. `handleTasksRequest` now takes the trackers
as an argument, so the unit lane can call it with a fake OmO tracker
that names a session. The session's task record comes back as its task,
the Claude tracker is not asked, and another path is not this route's.

Rebased onto main after PR #1597 (86e0643) merged: the one conflict was
the import block in `server/index.ts`, where PR #1597 renamed the
`shell-agent.ts` import; both changes are kept.

## Checks

- **After the move:** `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test
server/tasks-routes.test.ts server/omo-tasks.test.ts
server/claude-subagents.test.ts src/lib/omoTasks.test.ts
server/plugin-routes.test.ts server/shell-agent.test.ts` gives **127
pass, 0 fail** (with the third commit). The pinning test's three cases
are unchanged by the move.
- **`--color-moved` on the move commit:** `git diff --color-moved=plain
--color-moved-ws=allow-indentation-change HEAD~2 HEAD~1 -- server
shared` shows 143 lines as moved: the branch (one indent level shallower
in its new file), the `omo-tasks.ts` import that moved with it, and the
four types. The 23 other lines are:
- in `index.ts`: 4 import lines, the `pluginActionWaitMs` comment
(before and after), and the 2-line call;
- in the new route file: its 5-line header, 4 imports, the
`TaskTrackers` type with its comment, the function's doc comment and
signature, and `return null`;
  - in `protocol.ts`: the re-export line.
- **Client imports:** `bun run typecheck` passes on both tsconfigs. No
file in `src/` or `site/` imports `shared/tasks.ts`. `shared/tasks.ts`
has no import and no value export.
- **Sizes:** `server/index.ts` goes from 785 to 763 lines and
`shared/protocol.ts` from 1,452 to 1,410. The new modules are 41 and 43
lines.
- **Risks checked:**
- Import cycles: none new. The route imports `claude-subagents.ts`,
`herdr/client.ts`, `http.ts`, `omo-status.ts` and `omo-tasks.ts`, none
of which reaches `index.ts`. It imports nothing from `core/`, so the
core ownership rule (`core/ownership.test.ts`) holds.
- Initialization order: unchanged. The route only reads the trackers it
is given.
- `bun run check fast` (on the rebased branch): passes (unit 6151 pass,
0 fail, 12 skip in 437 files, 8 at a time, 57.6s).
- CI's integration lane runs the `api.contract.test.ts` and
`claude-session.contract.test.ts` cases against an isolated live herdr.

…n slice (#1690)

The next feature slice out of `server/index.ts` and
`shared/protocol.ts`, after integrations (#1686), plugins (#1687) and
background tasks (#1688): the agent catalog route and its type move into
their own files. Behaviour, path, status codes and messages stay the
same. The plan is `.omo/plans/feature-slices-plan.md` in the
maintainer's workspace.

This slice waited for PR #1597 (merged as 86e0643), which changed this
same `/api/agents` branch. The refactor brief puts a bug fix first and
the move after it. The branch moves here exactly as PR #1597 left it,
including its on-demand login PATH lookup through the server's
shell-agent locator.

This PR moves responsibility, so it is **not move-only**.

## Two commits: the check first, then the move

1. **`test(server): pin GET /api/agents before it moves`** adds
`server/agents-routes.test.ts`.
- **Why it is needed:** the existing route coverage is
`api.contract.test.ts` (fallbacks, PATH, sort), which needs a live
isolated herdr. `server/shell-agent.test.ts` covers the locator but not
the route.
   - **How it runs without herdr, in the unit lane:**
- a real `createServer({ port: 0, hostname: "127.0.0.1", stateDir:
mkdtempSync(…), …, shellAgents })`, given a stand-in locator through
`createServer`'s own `shellAgents` option;
- herdr's `agentManifests` stubbed with `spyOn(herdr,
"agentManifests")`;
- `PATH` pointed at a temp folder that holds only a `codex` executable,
and restored after each test.
   - **What it pins:**
- herdr's agents (`codex`, `pi`, `someagent`) are offered, plus Oh My Pi
and Claude Code always;
- the shell agent the locator finds (`gjc`) is offered and the one it
does not find (`omo`) is not, and the locator is asked about both;
- each agent has its label (an unknown kind keeps its kind as its label)
and its `installed` flag: true for `codex` on PATH and for `gjc`, which
the locator found, false for the rest;
     - the order is by label, then kind;
     - herdr's own error passes through (502);
     - a POST answers `400 method_not_allowed`.

   On unchanged code it gives **2 pass, 0 fail**.
2. **`refactor(server): move the agent catalog route and type into their
own slice`**
- **Moved:** the branch, unchanged, into `handleAgentsRequest(request,
pathname, shellAgents): Promise<Response | null>` in the new
`server/agents-routes.ts`, the nullable route pattern of the earlier
slices.
   - **Moved with it:** `AGENT_LABELS`, which only this branch used.
- **The locator stays the server's:** `index.ts` passes its own
`shellAgents`, the one launches use too. The route's type allows only
`executable`, so nothing is constructed, the locator's `stop()` stays
with the server, and startup order does not change.
- **Moved:** `AgentKind`, into the new `shared/agents.ts` (types only),
together with its doc comment ("GET /api/agents: one agent kind herdr
can start …"). That comment sat a few declarations away in
`protocol.ts`, above the directory listing type. This is the one line
that changes place for a reason other than the move, so the comment now
documents the type it describes.
- **Stays in `index.ts`:** one call at the same place in the dispatch
order, after the auth, device, update and diagnostics routes and before
`/api/fs/*`. The now-unused `agentManifests`, `SHELL_AGENTS` and
`AgentKind` imports leave.
- **Stays in `protocol.ts`:** a type re-export of `AgentKind`, so
`server/api.contract.test.ts`, `src/lib/api.ts`, `AgentPicker.tsx`,
`NewSessionDialog.tsx`, `SessionHistory.tsx` and `WorktreeDialog.tsx`
compile unchanged.

## Checks

- **After the move:** `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test
server/agents-routes.test.ts server/shell-agent.test.ts
src/lib/agentRoster.test.ts server/tasks-routes.test.ts
server/startup-order.test.ts` gives **26 pass, 0 fail**. The pinning
test is unchanged between the two commits.
- **`--color-moved` on the move commit:** `git diff --color-moved=plain
--color-moved-ws=allow-indentation-change HEAD~1 HEAD -- server shared`
shows 106 lines as moved: the branch (one indent level shallower in its
new file), the label table, `AgentKind` and its comment. The 21 other
lines are:
  - in `index.ts`:
    - the shortened protocol import;
    - the `shell-agent.ts` import without `SHELL_AGENTS`;
    - the new `agents-routes.ts` import;
    - the dropped `agentManifests` import line;
    - the 2-line call.
  - in the new route file:
    - its 5-line header;
    - 4 imports;
    - the function's doc comment and signature;
    - `return null`.
  - in `protocol.ts`: the re-export line.
- **Client imports:** `bun run typecheck` passes on both tsconfigs. No
file in `src/` or `site/` imports `shared/agents.ts`. `shared/agents.ts`
has no import and no value export.
- **Sizes:** `server/index.ts` goes from 763 to 724 lines and
`shared/protocol.ts` from 1,410 to 1,404. The new modules are 55 and 7
lines.
- **Risks checked:**
- Import cycles: none new. The route imports `herdr/client.ts`,
`http.ts` and `shell-agent.ts`, none of which reaches `index.ts`.
- Initialization order: unchanged. `AGENT_LABELS` is a constant, and the
locator is created by `createServer` as before.
- `bun run check fast`: passes (unit 6153 pass, 0 fail, 12 skip in 438
files, 8 at a time, 57.5s).
- CI's integration lane runs the `api.contract.test.ts` agent cases
against an isolated live herdr.

`protocol.ts`), and #1652 and #1427 (`protocol.ts`). Each diff was
checked for the moved lines and for `AgentKind`, and none of them
changes either one:
- #1598 adds a path to the `bridgePath` list in `index.ts`. That list
names `/api/agents`, but it stays in `index.ts` and this PR does not
touch it.
- #1427 changes an import line in `server/api.contract.test.ts` that
names `AgentKind`. That import still resolves through the re-export in

…1694)

The next feature slice out of `server/index.ts` and
`shared/protocol.ts`, after integrations (#1686), plugins (#1687),
background tasks (#1688) and the agent catalog (#1690): the plan route
and its types move into their own files. Behaviour, path, status codes
and messages stay the same. The plan is
`.omo/plans/feature-slices-plan.md` in the maintainer's workspace.

This PR moves responsibility, so it is **not move-only**.

## Two commits: the check first, then the move

1. **`test(server): pin GET /api/pane/plan before it moves`** adds
`server/plan-routes.test.ts`.
- **Why it is needed:** the existing route coverage is live only:
`api.contract.test.ts` (missing pane, wrong method) and
`claude-session.contract.test.ts` (a Claude Code pane's plan). The plan
readers have unit tests (`session-plan.test.ts`,
`session-plan-readers.test.ts`).
- **How it runs without herdr, in the unit lane:** a real
`createServer({ port: 0, hostname: "127.0.0.1", stateDir:
mkdtempSync(…), … })`, with `sessionSnapshot` stubbed through
`spyOn(herdr, "sessionSnapshot")`.
   - **What it pins:**
- a POST answers `400 method_not_allowed`, and a request without
`pane_id` answers `400 missing_pane_id`;
- a pane herdr does not have, and a pane that keeps no plan, both answer
200 `{ plan: null }` with a valid `server_time`;
- when herdr does not answer the snapshot, the route still answers 200
`{ plan: null }` once its 1-second bound (`within(1000, …)`) runs out.
That makes this test take about a second.

   On unchanged code it gives **3 pass, 0 fail**.
2. **`refactor(server): move the plan route and types into their own
slice`**
- **Moved:** the branch, unchanged, into `handlePlanRequest(request,
url, pathname, { omo, claudeAgents, plans }): Promise<Response | null>`
in the new `server/plan-routes.ts`. This is the nullable route pattern
of the earlier slices.
- **The trackers stay the core's:** `index.ts` passes the core's own
`omo` (`OmoStatus`), `claudeAgents` (`ClaudeSubagentStatus`) and `plans`
(`SessionPlans`). The route's type allows only the methods it calls:
`apply`; `ensure`; and `known`, `ensure`, `planOf`. It constructs
nothing, so there is one tracker each as before and startup order does
not change.
- **Moved:** `PlanStep` and `PanePlan`, verbatim with their doc
comments, into the new `shared/plans.ts` (types only).
- **Stays in `protocol.ts`:** `PlanSummary`, because the session
snapshot's pane enrichment and the `pane-status` WebSocket message both
carry it; a re-export would add nothing there. Also a type re-export of
`PlanStep` and `PanePlan`, so `server/session-plan.ts`,
`server/session-plan-reader.ts`,
`server/claude-session.contract.test.ts`, `src/lib/api.ts`,
`src/lib/plan.ts` and its test, `BackgroundTasks.tsx` and
`site/demo/transport.ts` compile unchanged.
- **Stays in `index.ts`:** one call at the same place in the dispatch
order, after the background tasks route and before session history. The
now-unused `within`, `sessionSnapshot`, `HerdrPane` and `PanePlan`
imports leave.

## Checks

- **After the move:** `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test
server/plan-routes.test.ts server/tasks-routes.test.ts
server/session-plan.test.ts server/session-plan-readers.test.ts
src/lib/plan.test.ts server/startup-order.test.ts` gives **41 pass, 0
fail**. The pinning test is unchanged between the two commits.
- **`--color-moved` on the move commit:** `git diff --color-moved=plain
--color-moved-ws=allow-indentation-change HEAD~1 HEAD -- server shared`
shows 102 lines as moved: the branch (one indent level shallower in its
new file) and both types. The 23 other lines are:
  - in `index.ts`:
    - the shortened protocol import;
    - the dropped `within` and `sessionSnapshot` imports;
    - the new `plan-routes.ts` import;
    - the 2-line call.
  - in the new route file:
    - its 3-line header;
    - 7 imports;
    - the `PlanTrackers` type with its comment;
    - the function's doc comment and signature;
    - `return null`.
  - in `protocol.ts`: the re-export line.
- **Client imports:** `bun run typecheck` passes on both tsconfigs. No
file in `src/` or `site/` imports `shared/plans.ts`. `shared/plans.ts`
has no import and no value export.
- **Sizes:** `server/index.ts` goes from 724 to 704 lines and
`shared/protocol.ts` from 1,404 to 1,381. The new modules are 41 and 24
lines.
- **Risks checked:**
- Import cycles: none new. The route imports `claude-subagents.ts`,
`herdr/client.ts` and `http.ts`, plus types only from `omo-status.ts`
and `session-plan.ts`. None of them reaches `index.ts`, and nothing
comes from `core/`.
  - Initialization order: unchanged.
- `bun run check fast`: passes (unit 6156 pass, 0 fail, 12 skip in 439
files, 8 at a time, 57.9s).
- CI's integration lane runs the `api.contract.test.ts` and
`claude-session.contract.test.ts` plan cases against an isolated live
herdr.

## Overlapping open PRs

Open PRs that touch these files: #1652, #1598, #1442 and #1427. I
checked each diff for the moved lines and for `PlanStep` and `PanePlan`:
- #1652, #1598 and #1442 change neither.
- #1427 changes an import line that names `PanePlan` and `PlanStep`. It
imports them from `protocol.ts`, so the line still resolves through the
re-export.

…#1696)

The last inline feature slice out of `server/index.ts` and
`shared/protocol.ts`, after integrations (#1686), plugins (#1687),
background tasks (#1688), the agent catalog (#1690) and plans (#1694):
the file routes and their types move into their own files. Behaviour,
paths, status codes, headers and messages stay the same. The plan is
`.omo/plans/feature-slices-plan.md` in the maintainer's workspace.

This PR moves responsibility, so it is **not move-only**.

## Two commits: the check first, then the move

1. **`test(server): pin the file routes before they move`** adds
`server/file-routes.test.ts`.
- **Why it is needed:** the existing route coverage is mostly live:
`page-media.contract.test.ts`, `route-envelope.contract.test.ts` and
`device-access.contract.test.ts`. The helpers have unit tests
(`file-view.test.ts`, `project-favicon.test.ts`, `files.test.ts`). In
the unit lane, only `open-access.test.ts` reaches a file route, and only
for the watching-device refusal.
- **How it runs without herdr, in the unit lane:** a real
`createServer({ port: 0, hostname: "127.0.0.1", stateDir:
mkdtempSync(…), … })` reading a temp project folder, with `paneGet`
stubbed through `spyOn(herdr, "paneGet")` where a pane is involved.
   - **What it pins:**
     - **Methods and other sites:**
       - a POST answers `400 method_not_allowed`, and HEAD is allowed;
- another site's `no-cors` read answers `403 cross_site`, while a
top-level navigation is served.
     - **A file by its absolute path:**
       - `/api/fs/stat` answers its name, kind and size;
- `/api/fs/file` answers its bytes, `inline` by default and `attachment`
with `download=1`;
       - a missing file answers `404 not_found`.
- **A relative path in a pane's folder:** with `pane_id`, a relative
path is found in the folder herdr reports for that pane. When herdr
cannot say that folder, the relative path is `404 not_found`, but an
absolute path is still served.
- **The project icon:** `/api/fs/favicon` without `root` answers `400
missing_root`. A folder with `public/favicon.ico` answers that icon, and
a folder without one answers `{ icon: null }`.
- **Page media:** an address never given out answers `404 not_found`,
and a POST answers `400 method_not_allowed`.

   On unchanged code it gives **5 pass, 0 fail**.
2. **`refactor(server): move the file routes and types into their own
slice`**
- **Moved:** both branches, unchanged, into `handleFileRequest(request,
url, pathname, requester): Promise<Response | null>` in the new
`server/file-routes.ts`:
     - `/api/fs/stat`, `/api/fs/file` and `/api/fs/favicon`;
     - `/api/fs/page-media/:media_id`.
- **Moved with them:** `claudeTempFolder`, which only the file read
used.
- **Who asks:** the access gate in `index.ts` already worked out who
asks: `bridgeAuthorized`, `requestHost`, `forwarded`, `client` and
`access`. The route gets those values as they are (`FileRequester`),
because a page's media plays only for the client and device that
rendered it. Nothing is computed again.
- **Shared state stays where it is:** the page-media registry stays in
`file-view.ts`. Sign-out and device revocation still call
`forgetPageMedia` from `index.ts`.
- **Moved:** `FileKind`, `FileInfo` and `ProjectFavicon`, verbatim with
their doc comments, into the new `shared/files.ts` (types only).
- **Stays in `index.ts`:** one call at the same place in the dispatch
order, after the agent catalog and before the workspace routes. Every
gate before it is untouched, including the watching-device refusal of
file reads. The imports only these routes used leave `index.ts`:
`paneContext`, `resolveAgent`, `claudePaneSession`,
`claudeSessionTempDir`, `findProjectFavicon`, `paneGet`,
`isSecureRequest`, the file-view helpers except `forgetPageMedia`, and
`ProjectFavicon`.
- **Stays in `protocol.ts`:** a type re-export of the three names, so
every importer compiles unchanged.

## Checks

- **After the move:** `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test
server/file-routes.test.ts server/file-view.test.ts
server/project-favicon.test.ts server/files.test.ts
server/open-access.test.ts server/startup-order.test.ts` gives ****71
pass, 0 fail****. The pinning test is unchanged between the two commits.
- **`--color-moved` on the move commit:** `git diff --color-moved=plain
--color-moved-ws=allow-indentation-change HEAD~1 HEAD -- server shared`
shows 168 lines as moved: both branches (one indent level shallower in
their new file), `claudeTempFolder` and the three types. The 26 other
lines are:
  - in `index.ts`:
- the shortened protocol, `auth.ts` and `file-view.ts` imports (each
before and after);
    - the new `file-routes.ts` import;
    - the dropped `paneGet` import line;
    - the 2-line call.
  - in the new route file:
    - its 4-line header;
    - the 6 imports that did not move with the code;
    - the `FileRequester` type with its comment;
    - the function's doc comment and signature;
    - `return null`.
  - in `protocol.ts`: the re-export line.

The imports only the moved code used (`paneContext`/`resolveAgent`,
`claudePaneSession`, `claudeSessionTempDir`, `findProjectFavicon`) show
as moved from `index.ts` into the route file.
- **Client imports:** `bun run typecheck` passes on both tsconfigs. No
file in `src/` or `site/` imports `shared/files.ts`. `shared/files.ts`
has no import and no value export.
- **Sizes:** `server/index.ts` goes from 704 to 657 lines and
`shared/protocol.ts` from 1,381 to 1,353. The new modules are 69 and 29
lines.
- **Risks checked:**
- Import cycles: none new. The route imports `access.ts` (type only),
`auth.ts`, `claude-store.ts`, `conversation.ts`, `file-view.ts`,
`herdr/client.ts`, `http.ts`, `pane-context.ts` and
`project-favicon.ts`. These were all already imported by `index.ts`, and
none of them imports `index.ts`.
  - Initialization order: unchanged. No module state moves.
- `bun run check fast`: passes (unit 6161 pass, 0 fail, 12 skip in 440
files, 8 at a time, 57.4s).
- CI's integration lane runs `page-media.contract.test.ts`,
`route-envelope.contract.test.ts` and `device-access.contract.test.ts`
against an isolated live herdr.

The first type-only slice of phase 2 (plan
`.omo/plans/feature-slices-plan.md`, section 7, item 1): the CLIProxy
types move out of `shared/protocol.ts` into `shared/cliproxy.ts`. Their
routes were already split out (`server/cliproxy-routes.ts`,
`server/cliproxy.ts`), so only the contract types were left in
`protocol.ts`.

## What changes

- **Moved:** `CLIProxyStatus`, `CLIProxyProvider`, `CLIProxyLogin` and
`CLIProxyLoginStatus`, verbatim with their doc comment, into the new
`shared/cliproxy.ts`. The file holds types only, with no imports and no
values.
- **Stays in `protocol.ts`:** `export type { CLIProxyStatus,
CLIProxyProvider, CLIProxyLogin, CLIProxyLoginStatus } from
"./cliproxy.ts";` at the old place, so every importer compiles
unchanged: `server/cliproxy.ts`, `server/cliproxy-routes.ts`,
`server/cliproxy.test.ts`, `CLIProxyLogin.tsx`,
`UsageAccountDialog.tsx`, `UsageHubConnect.tsx` and `UsageSettings.tsx`.
- **No other `protocol.ts` declaration uses these four names**, so
nothing else had to stay behind.

There is no behaviour to pin: types are erased at runtime, and the route
and its tests are untouched. A type-only re-export also adds no runtime
import.

## Checks

Thanks for the review. Fixed in 44337fa (server) and ad8971c (client), point by point:

Blocking

  1. Resume on macOS and Windows: fixed.
    • Where herdr's environment can't be read (macOS, Windows), herdrLaunchSource now takes the bridge server's own environment instead of answering unreadable. With nothing exported to the bridge, a plain claude pane's rows get their Resume back. Linux still reads herdr's own environment.
    • macOS with an exported CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR: the ps -E line is cut after herdr's argv for the process, so an argument naming the variable is no longer read as an assignment. One assignment there that names an existing folder (or is empty) counts as the override. Two assignments, a value that names no folder, or a line that doesn't start with the argv are still refused. The list no longer answers 409 for the common case.
    • Windows: a ~/.claude found by its PID record now resumes with nothing exported, which reaches ~/.claude again. It no longer shows "Resume unavailable".
    • The stand-in can be wrong (for example, the bridge runs under launchd while herdr runs from a shell). That case is caught by 2.
    • Windows: when the source pane runs no Claude (an implicit ~/.claude) and the new Claude is found by its PID record (which can't say how its store was chosen), the read-back in 2 accepts it when the store folder is the same, and still refuses another folder. Test: keeps a resume from a shell pane that came up on ~/.claude, and closes one on another store.
    • Tests: macOS and Windows take the bridge server's own environment…, macOS ps output proves an exported store only past herdr's argv…, a Windows pane's Claude > offers Resume for the default ~/.claude. Each fails on 20d06ad.

Should fix

  1. Shell rc overriding the tab's env: handled. After agent.start, the route reads back the store of the Claude that started in the new pane, waiting up to 10 s for it to appear. If its key differs from the listed one, the route closes that tab and answers 409 launch_store_changed. If no store can be read within 15 s, it fails closed the same way: the tab is closed and the route answers 409 launch_store_unknown. The dialog says both in the user's language. Nothing keeps running in the wrong store or an unconfirmed one. Tests: closes a resumed Claude's tab when its shell chose another store, and keeps one on the listed store and closes a resumed Claude's tab that does not say its store in time.
  2. Source pane not running Claude: fixed. The new sessionHistorySourcePane (src/lib/sessionHistory.ts) picks, for a Claude list, the first pane running Claude among the asking pane, the selected pane, then the workspace's panes in tab order. Only when no pane runs Claude does it fall back to the old choice. The dialog picks again when the Agent picker switches to Claude and when the roster changes. There are 10 unit cases, and the browser QA covers the picker switch.
  3. Two Claudes on one transcript: fixed. claudeStoreOf now also returns a place, a hash of the store folder's identity alone. The "already open" check compares place, so a pane on ~/.claude chosen by name matches a list from an implicit ~/.claude and answers opened. The key (folder plus how it was chosen) still decides which store a new tab starts in. Test: opens a pane showing the session from the same store folder, however that folder was chosen.
  4. /proc walk on every call: fixed. The answer is cached per listening socket, keyed by its inodes from /proc/net/unix. A process's environment doesn't change, and a restarted herdr listens on a new socket. So only the first call per herdr walks /proc. Test: reads herdr's environment once per listening socket.
  5. Closed source pane: fixed. The history route now answers 409 stale_source for a pane that is gone, the same as resume. A pane of another workspace stays 400. The dialog picks the source again from the live roster and lists again. stale_source and launch_store_changed show translated messages instead of the server's English text.

Nits

  • /api/machines/local/ allowlist: sessions/resume added.
  • Failed store reads: an unreadable or ambiguous process read is now kept for 2 s, not 30 s.
  • 50-row cap: left as is. A direct file check past the cap would skip the listing's recorded-cwd check (/work/a_b and /work/a-b share one project folder) and its containment check for symlinks. Resume only offers listed rows, so a session past row 50 isn't offered in the first place.
  • refusal is now a useCallback and sits in the effect's dependency list.
  • Remote PCs: the changelog fragment now says a remote PC shows Resume as unavailable until its bridge is updated.

CodeRabbit's Windows shell_pid comment is fixed too; see the reply on that thread.

Validation on ad8971c:

  • bun run check fast: all steps ok (typecheck, build, generated files fresh, workflow syntax). Unit tests: 6194 pass, 0 fail, 12 skip.
  • bun test on claude-store, session-history, sessionHistory, i18n and the conventions tests: 238 pass, 1 platform skip. The 11 new or changed server cases all fail on 20d06ad's server code.
  • bun run check run bun test --timeout 30000 ./server/api.contract.test.ts -t 'POST /api/sessions/resume|GET /api/sessions/history': 5 pass on a real herdr. This includes the read-back after a real tab.create and agent.start.
  • bun test src/lib/sessionHistory.test.ts src/lib/i18n.test.ts plus the conventions tests: 97 pass. bun scripts/session-history-browser-qa.ts: all scenarios pass.

A gate reviewer on another model checked the fixes before the push. It found three problems, all fixed above: an unconfirmed store was answered as success, a correct Windows default-store resume was closed, and a direct file check past row 50 skipped the folder checks. Native macOS and Windows runs were not done here; on those platforms the new paths are covered by unit tests with the platform and process table handed in. CI runs the Windows install and macOS session identity checks.

Merge-pass re-review of 44337fa + ad8971c, by a gate reviewer running a different model from the author's. It ran natively on Linux, the test MacBook Air and the Windows 11 test PC, each in a throwaway clone.

Status of my earlier findings:

  • 1. Resume on macOS and Windows in the default setup: fixed for the ordinary cases.
  • 2. Store read-back: still open (blocker below).
  • 3. Workspace list bound to a non-Claude pane: fixed.
  • 4. Two Claudes on one session (implicit vs explicit key): fixed.
  • 5. Uncached /proc walk: fixed.
  • 6. Closed source pane: fixed.

Runs:

  • Linux: 175 pass, 1 skip.
  • macOS: 170 pass, 6 skip.
  • Typecheck passes.
  • The isolated HTTP contracts: 5 pass.
  • Browser QA passes.

Blocking: macOS ps -E parsing still trusts a lookalike. (server/claude-store.ts ~182-192, server/session-history-routes.ts ~244-255)

  • An unrelated environment value such as NOTE="example CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=<wanted-store>" is read as an exported override.
  • In the reviewer's native run, the launched Claude actually used $HOME/.claude. The resume handler still answered 200 with agent_started: true and did not close the tab, so a Claude was left running on the wrong store.
  • The read-back can't catch this, because it compares two results from the same lossy parser.
  • Fix: accept an override only when the environment entry can be told apart from text inside another value. If it can't, refuse with claude_store_unknown. Add the NOTE=... case as a test.

Also failing on Windows: the new timeout-cleanup test fails before it reaches cleanup (server/session-history.test.ts ~1237). Please look at the fixture there.

Once those two are fixed and the checks are green, this goes back in the merge queue. It's a server/ contract change, so it also gets another CodeRabbit review request.

ps -E prints arguments and environment as one line, so NOTE="example CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=<dir>" reads like an export. An export read from ps now counts only for a folder other than ~/.claude that holds the Claude's live PID record; an empty value or ~/.claude cannot be told from such text and is claude_store_unknown. After a resume, every platform but Linux also waits for the started Claude's live PID record in the listed store's folder, a check that does not depend on ps text; otherwise its tab is closed (409). Two route tests now give their shell pane a shell_pid and a process table, as Windows needs.

Thanks for the re-review. Both items are fixed in c91a31d. Each fix had a failing test first.

Blocking: the macOS ps -E lookalike.

  • ps alone can't tell an export from the same text inside another value, so the value it shows is now only a candidate. It counts only when it names a folder other than ~/.claude and that folder holds the Claude's live PID record (<dir>/sessions/<pid>.json, its start checked against ps -o lstart). Only a real export moves Claude's store there. An empty value, or one naming ~/.claude, can't be proved this way, because a Claude with nothing exported writes its record to ~/.claude too. Those, and a folder without the record, are refused as claude_store_unknown (server/claude-store.ts, readClaudeSource).
  • The read-back no longer depends on the parser. After agent.start, on every platform but Linux (where /proc/<pid>/environ is exact), the route waits, within the same bounded launch check, for the started Claude's own live PID record to show up in the listed store's folder. If it doesn't, the new tab is closed and the route answers 409; it never answers 200 with agent_started.
  • Tests:
    • claude-store.test.ts, "macOS ps output proves an exported store only past herdr's argv, once, and where the process's live PID record is": NOTE=example CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=<store> with the record in ~/.claude gives unreadable; the same lookalike naming ~/.claude, an empty export, and no record all give unreadable; a real export with the record gives that store.
    • session-history.test.ts, "closes a macOS resume whose Claude only looks exported to the listed store, and keeps one that writes there": your scenario, a lookalike Claude writing ~/.claude, now answers 409 with the tab closed. The control, a Claude that writes the listed store, still answers 200.
    • Both failed on ad8971c (override / 200 created).
  • Trade-off: on macOS, a Claude that writes no PID record (versions older than the record's procStart) with an exported store now lists as "store unknown", and its Resume fails closed. So does an explicit export of ~/.claude or an empty export. A plain claude with nothing exported is unaffected.

Windows: the timeout-cleanup test.

  • Its shell pane had shell_pid: null. Since the Windows shell_pid path landed, that means "store unknown" on Windows, so the list answered 409 and the test failed on listed.sessions[0] before cleanup.
  • Running natively on the Windows test PC also found the same fixture problem in "lists a pane with no Claude from the server's default store" (~1373). Both now give the pane shell_pid: 1 and a process table holding just that shell, so the pane is a shell with nothing under it on every platform.

Validation on c91a31d:

  • bun run check fast: all steps ok. Unit tests: 6195 pass, 0 fail, 12 skip.
  • bun test server/claude-store.test.ts server/session-history.test.ts plus src/lib/sessionHistory, src/lib/i18n and the conventions tests: 239 pass, 1 skip, 0 fail.
  • Natively, in throwaway clones:
    • The test MacBook Air (Darwin arm64): 137 pass, 6 skip, 0 fail.
    • The Windows 11 test PC: both fixed tests pass. One other test there fails, claudeTranscriptFile > reports a store it cannot read instead of calling the transcript missing. It is on main unchanged and relies on chmod 000, which doesn't deny reads on Windows. It isn't from this PR, so I left it.
  • bun run check run bun test --timeout 30000 ./server/api.contract.test.ts -t 'POST /api/sessions/resume|GET /api/sessions/history': 5 pass on a real herdr.

A gate reviewer on another model checked this before the push. Its one finding was that the record proves the folder, not the export, when the lookalike names ~/.claude. That is fixed above.

Merge-pass re-review of c91a31d, by a gate reviewer on a different model from the author's. It ran natively on Linux, the test MacBook Air and the Windows 11 test PC, in throwaway clones.

What changed:

  • The NOTE="… CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=…" lookalike now gets 409 and asks to close the tab, as it should.
  • The Windows timeout-cleanup test is fixed and was reproduced on home-window.
  • Watch-only devices are still refused. The DESIGN.md edit is outside the generated blocks.

Test runs: Linux 176 pass, 1 skip. macOS 171 pass, 6 skip. Windows targeted cases 7 pass. HTTP contracts 5 pass. Typecheck and the generate:themes check pass.

Still blocking: a PID record proves a live process, not which store it uses (server/claude-store.ts ~227-230, server/session-history-routes.ts ~139-143).

  • If a store folder holds a live PID record of a Claude that actually runs on ~/.claude, the resume answers 200, agent_started: true, and no close request. The Claude is left on the wrong store.
  • This happens naturally: people make a second store with cp -r ~/.claude ~/.claude-work while Claude runs.
  • The reviewer reproduced it with real processes and native ps.
  • The record and the read-back come from the same movable file, so the read-back isn't independent.
  • Fix: refuse when the same PID's record appears in more than one store. Better still, take the store from evidence tied to the process itself, such as its open files or its cwd/argv, and fall back to refusing. Add the copied-record case as a test.

Once that's fixed and the checks are green, this goes back in the merge queue.

… PID record a copy shares

A PID record names a live process, not the store it writes: a store copied while Claude ran holds the same record. macOS now reads the process's environment as the kernel keeps it (sysctl KERN_PROCARGS2 through bun:ffi), each entry whole, so NOTE="... CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=..." stays NOTE's, and takes the store from it as Linux does from /proc; the ps text and the record are no longer evidence there. Windows, which lets no one read another process's environment, takes a store only as the one holder of the live record among the stores Claude may use, and a record file that is there but cannot be read is unknown, never none. The resume read-back follows the same rules. The live chat's readings are unchanged.

Thanks. The blocker is fixed in 2ddd036, with the evidence tied to the process itself, as you suggested.

Blocking: a PID record proves a live process, not its store.

  • macOS: the store now comes from the process's own environment, read exactly. readClaudeSource reads it the way the kernel keeps it, through sysctl(CTL_KERN, KERN_PROCARGS2, pid) (libSystem through bun:ffi, opened on the first macOS read only). That is the data ps -E prints, but each entry stays whole and NUL-separated, so NOTE="example CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=<dir>" stays NOTE's entry. The same environSource reads it as on Linux (/proc/<pid>/environ). Neither the ps text nor a PID record is evidence for the store any more, so a copied record (cp -r ~/.claude ~/.claude-work while Claude runs), a deleted original or a lookalike changes nothing. Another user's process, or one that is gone, can't be read and gets claude_store_unknown. The live chat's macOS reading (ps) is unchanged.
  • The read-back is independent too: on Linux and macOS it compares two exact environment reads. The source pane's store and the new Claude's store each come from the process itself.
  • Windows can't read another process's environment, so the PID record stays the evidence there, made strict:
    • A store counts only if it is the one holder of the live record among the stores Claude may use (claudeRecordOnlyIn: the default store, ~/.claude, each ~/.claude-*). Two holders, as after copying a store while Claude ran, mean claude_store_unknown, and on the read-back the new tab is closed (409 launch_store_unknown).
    • A record file that exists but can't be read is now "unknown", never "none", so a readable copy can't win over an unreadable original (claudeProcessSession(..., "throw")). The live chat's default reading is unchanged.
    • One limit remains on Windows, where nothing better is available: if the original record is deleted and a copy kept, the copy's folder is taken. The list and the resume then agree on that folder, so no session is started in a store other than the listed one.
  • Tests:
    • A KERN_PROCARGS2 parser test.
    • A mocked macOS environment: the lookalike reads as nothing exported, an export as the store, and an unreadable one as unknown.
    • A native test with real stand-in processes on Linux and macOS: export, empty export, none, and the NOTE lookalike, which reads as nothing exported.
    • On Windows: a copied record means no proof and ambiguous; an original record that can't be read (chmod 000, and a symlink that passes lstat and access but fails to read) means no proof and ambiguous.
    • A macOS route test: the lookalike gets 409 launch_store_changed with the tab closed, and a real export gets 200.
    • A Windows route case: the new Claude's record in two stores gets 409 launch_store_unknown with the tab closed.
    • The copied-record cases failed on c91a31d (override / 200 created).

Validation on 2ddd036:

  • bun run check fast: all steps ok. Unit tests: 6199 pass, 0 fail, 12 skip.
  • Natively, in throwaway clones:
    • The test MacBook Air: 141 pass, 6 skip, 0 fail. This includes the real sysctl read of real processes with the NOTE lookalike. A probe there also read 200 KB and 260 KB environments.
    • The Windows 11 test PC: 116 pass. The one failure is the claudeTranscriptFile chmod 000 test that is on main unchanged and can't deny reads on Windows.
  • bun run check run bun test --timeout 30000 ./server/api.contract.test.ts -t 'POST /api/sessions/resume|GET /api/sessions/history': 5 pass on a real herdr.
  • A gate reviewer on another model reviewed it in two rounds. In round one it found that a record failing at read time (EACCES/EPERM after lstat and access pass) was still taken for "none". That is fixed with a regression test, and round two approved.

Merge pass: the gate re-review approved 2ddd036, but I'm holding the merge for CodeRabbit's newer thread on server/session-history-routes.ts. That thread is still open, and its point stands.

A resume's start can run past Bun's 75 s idle window:

  • extendTimeout runs before the tab is created.
  • One agentStart attempt can take up to 60 s.
  • A busy-shell retry can start 10 s in and take another 60 s.
  • The store check that follows can wait another 15 s with nothing sent.

When that happens, Bun closes the socket while the handler is still running. The client then reports a network failure while the new tab stays open. A remote PC's proxied resume can also hit machine-api.ts's 75 s abort first and return 504.

To fix it:

  • Restart the idle window right before the store check.
  • Keep the 75 s value in server/index.ts.
  • Give the resume route a longer budget in server/machine-api.ts.

Once that's in and the thread is resolved, this goes back in the merge queue.

…e check

A resume's start (a busy-shell retry within 10 s, then one agentStart of up to 60 s) and the store check after it (up to 15 s, sending nothing) could pass Bun's 75 s idle window, set only before the tab was made, so the client saw a network failure while the tab stayed. The window is now restarted right before the store check. Through the PC proxy, a resume gets the budget a worktree's creation has (165 s fetch, 180 s idle), named once in machine-api.ts slowMachinePath.

Fixed in e8d04eb, point by point:

  • Restart the idle window before the store check: done. extendTimeout runs again right after the agent start reports agent_started, before startedStore. The start (up to about 70 s: a busy-shell retry within 10 s, then one agentStart of up to 60 s) and the store check (up to 15 s) each get a 75 s window.
  • Keep 75 s in server/index.ts: unchanged.
  • A longer proxy budget for the resume route: a new slowMachinePath in server/machine-api.ts names the slow routes once, worktree/create and sessions/resume. The proxy's fetch gives them 165 s instead of 75 s. The local proxy's own idle window in server/index.ts gives them 180 s instead of 80 s; without that, the local side would have cut a remote resume off at 80 s. The client's resumeSession sets no timeout of its own.
  • Test: the resume route's events run in the order extend, create, start, extend, check, close, and slowMachinePath covers resume, worktree creation, history and tab creation. It failed without the second extend.

Validation on e8d04eb:

  • bun run check fast: all steps ok. Unit tests: 6200 pass, 0 fail, 12 skip.
  • bun run check run bun test --timeout 30000 ./server/api.contract.test.ts -t 'POST /api/sessions/resume|GET /api/sessions/history': 5 pass.
  • A gate reviewer on another model approved. It checked the time budget end to end, locally and through the proxy, and probed the timeout choice and the refusal of malformed paths against the real proxy. Its one note, a doc comment I had separated from nonCanonicalPath, is fixed in the same commit.

I replied on CodeRabbit's thread and resolved it.

Merge-pass re-review of e8d04eb. A new gate reviewer on a different model than the author's went over it.

Checks out:

  • The remote budgets are scoped to the resume route: a 165 s proxy fetch and a 180 s idle.
  • The initial 75 s idle is kept for every other route.
  • The client sets no shorter deadline.
  • Typecheck passes. Targeted tests: 181 pass, 1 skip. HTTP contracts: 5 pass.
  • CodeRabbit's thread is resolved.

Blocking: calling timeout() again with the same value doesn't restart the idle window on Bun 1.4.3 (server/index.ts ~518, called again from server/session-history-routes.ts ~259). The reviewer reproduced this over live HTTP:

  • bunServer.timeout(request, 4), then the same call again at 2 s: the request still disconnected at 4.002 s.
  • Using 8 s for the second call instead: it returned 200 at 5.502 s.

So a long resume can still be cut off at 75 s from the first call. The new test only checks the order of the callbacks, so it can't catch this.

Fix: before the store check, set a value that covers the whole remaining worst case (for example, the start budget plus the 15 s check), not the same 75 again. Then add a live HTTP test that holds a request past the first window. The reviewer's runnable reproducer is a good template.

Bun 1.4 sets a request's deadline at its start plus the last timeout given once its body is in, so asking again for 75 s moved nothing and a long resume could still be cut at 75 s. The route now asks once, after the body is read, for RESUME_BUDGET_S (150 s, inside the PC proxy's 165 s) and answers by 140 s whatever still runs: 504 resume_timed_out. Work that ends after that makes no tab and closes the one it made, and until it ends another resume of the same session is 409 resume_in_progress, so a retry never opens a tab about to be closed. Live HTTP tests hold a request past a 4 s first window and answer by the deadline while a start still runs.

You're right, and thanks for the reproducer. Fixed in c4d09d4.

What Bun 1.4.3 does, measured here over live HTTP:

  • The deadline is the request's start plus the last value given. timeout(r, 4) and then 4 again at 2 s cuts at 4.00 s. Then 8 at 2 s answers at 5.5 s but cuts at 8.00 s, not 10 s.
  • For a POST, a timeout given before the body is read is dropped when the body is read. Only one given after it holds. So a second call can only raise the total; it never restarts the window.

Blocking: the resume could still be cut at 75 s.

  • One budget, asked once: the route now asks once, right after the body is read, for RESUME_BUDGET_S = 150 s through a new holdOpen(seconds) (server/index.ts wires it to bunServer.timeout(request, seconds)). That is inside the PC proxy's 165 s fetch and 180 s idle window from the last round. Both re-sets of 75 s are gone.
  • A bound the route enforces itself: a second gate reviewer showed that herdr's per-call limits can add up past any fixed budget (about 122 s against 120). So the route keeps its own deadline. At 140 s it answers 504 resume_timed_out, whatever still runs, before Bun could drop the socket. Work that ends after that answer makes no tab, and closes a tab it already made, because the client was told the resume didn't happen.
  • No race with a retry: while that work still runs, including its late cleanup, another resume of the same session (same workspace, session and store folder) gets 409 resume_in_progress. A retry therefore never opens a tab that is about to be closed, and never starts a second one beside it. The client shows both new codes in the user's words (ko/ja/zh).

Tests (live HTTP, server/session-history.test.ts):

  • "holds a resume's request open past the server's first idle window, through its start and store check": the server reads the body and sets a 4 s window, then the route runs with a start taking 5.5 s. On e8d04eb it fails with ECONNRESET at 4.00 s; it now answers at 5.5 s. It also checks that the budget is asked once and lies between 85 s and 255 s.
  • "answers by its own deadline while the start still runs, and closes the tab that start made after":
    • The deadline falls once the start is entered (driven by a promise, so no sleeps), and the answer is 504 resume_timed_out.
    • A retry whose roster already shows the late tab reporting the session gets 409 resume_in_progress, and nothing is created. With the guard in the wrong place it got 200 opened, which is the race the reviewer found.
    • After the start ends, the tab is closed, and a fresh resume goes through.

Validation on c4d09d4:

  • bun run check fast: all steps ok. Unit tests: 6201 pass, 0 fail, 12 skip.
  • bun run check run bun test --timeout 30000 ./server/api.contract.test.ts -t 'POST /api/sessions/resume|GET /api/sessions/history': 5 pass.
  • A gate reviewer on another model went three rounds. It found that the fixed budget could be outrun, then the retry race and a timing-dependent test; all are fixed above. The last round approved, after an event-driven probe confirmed 409 during the late start, 409 while the close was pending, and 200 once cleanup was done. No native macOS or Windows run this round: the change is in the route and the tests, not in platform code.

Merge pass: this changes an HTTP contract and its permissions, and CodeRabbit never reviewed the later commits because of its review limit. The reviews below stand in for it. As AGENTS.md requires, the findings and their fixes are listed here.

Reviews: a code-review agent and five gate reviews, all on a different model than the author's. Native runs on Linux, the test MacBook Air (eamac) and the Windows 11 test PC, each in a throwaway clone.

Findings and how each was resolved:

  1. Claude Resume disappeared on macOS and Windows in the default setup. Fixed in 44337fa.
  2. A shell rc could override the resumed tab's store. Fixed in stages:
    • a ps -E lookalike (NOTE="… CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=…") was taken for an export: fixed in c91a31d;
    • a live PID record copied into another store passed as proof: fixed in 2ddd036. A macOS Claude's environment is now read exactly, and a PID record that a copy shares is refused with 409 launch_store_changed.
  3. A workspace list could bind to a pane that isn't running Claude. Fixed in ad8971c.
  4. Two Claudes could open on one session. Fixed.
  5. An uncached /proc walk. Fixed.
  6. A closed source pane left the dialog stuck. Fixed.
  7. CodeRabbit: a long resume could outlast Bun's 75 s idle window and the proxy's 75 s abort. The first fix (e8d04eb) set timeout(request, 75) again, which on Bun 1.4.3 does not restart the window; reproduced over live HTTP. Fixed in c4d09d4: one 150 s budget per resume, set once.
    • The resume answers by 140 s with 504 resume_timed_out. Work still running then makes no tab, and closes the exact tab it started.
    • A second resume of the same session gets 409 resume_in_progress, and the lock is released on every path.
    • Only the resume route gets the 165 s proxy budget.
    • The final gate probe survived the old deadline.

Unchanged:

  • Watch-only devices still get 403.
  • An unknown store is refused, never replaced.
  • tab.create keeps focus:false, and nothing launches without a click.

Final runs: 223 tests (1 platform skip), 22 i18n tests, 5 isolated HTTP contracts and typecheck all pass. Earlier native runs: macOS 175 pass, Windows 41 pass. Not verified: a full-length 140 s timing run, and macOS 14/15 (only macOS 27 was available). All required checks are green and no review thread is open.

…1753)

The last type-only slice of phase 2 (plan
`.omo/plans/feature-slices-plan.md`, section 7, item 7). It follows the
other type-only slices (#1699 to #1713) and waited for the session
resume PR (#1598), which added `SessionResumeSource`,
`SessionResumeRequest` and `SessionResumeResponse` beside the history
types. The session history types move out of `shared/protocol.ts` into
`shared/session-history.ts`. Their routes were already split out
(`server/session-history-routes.ts`), so only the contract types were
left in `protocol.ts`.

## What changes

- **Moved:** `SessionHistoryAgent`, `SessionResumeSource`,
`SessionHistoryRow`, `SessionResumeRequest`, `SessionResumeResponse`,
`SessionHistoryResponse`, verbatim with their doc comments, into the new
`shared/session-history.ts`. The file holds types only, with no imports
and no values.
- **Stays in `protocol.ts`:** `export type { SessionHistoryAgent,
SessionResumeSource, SessionHistoryRow, SessionResumeRequest,
SessionResumeResponse, SessionHistoryResponse } from
"./session-history.ts";` at the old place, so every importer compiles
unchanged.
- **No other `protocol.ts` declaration uses these names**, so nothing
else had to stay behind.

There is no behaviour to pin: types are erased at runtime, and the
routes and their tests are untouched.

## Checks

- **`--color-moved`:** `git diff --color-moved=plain origin/main...HEAD
-- shared` shows the declarations and their comments as moved (96
lines). The only other line is the re-export in `protocol.ts`.
- **Client imports:** `bun run typecheck` passes on both tsconfigs, so
every importer still compiles through the re-export. No file in `src/`
or `site/` imports `shared/session-history.ts`.
- `HERDR_TEST_MODE=unit bun test server/session-history.test.ts
server/machine-proxy.test.ts src/lib/sessionHistory.test.ts
server/claude-store.test.ts`: **190 pass, 0 fail**. The routes' contract
tests (`server/api.contract.test.ts`,
`server/device-access.contract.test.ts`) run in CI's integration lane.
- `bun run check fast`: passes (unit 6244 pass, 0 fail, 13 skip in 442
files, 8 at a time, 57.6s)

## Outside PRs that touch the same files

No other maintainer PR touches these files. Outside contributors' PRs
that touch `shared/protocol.ts`: #1714, #1706, #1652, #1442 and #1427.
- None of them changes the moved types, so none needs code changes, at
most a rebase.
- I tested each against this branch with `git merge-tree`:
  - #1714, #1706 and #1652 still merge cleanly in `shared/`.
- #1442 and #1427 already conflict with main in `shared/protocol.ts`.
This move adds no new conflict there.
- Their imports from `protocol.ts` keep resolving through the re-export.

Move-only: moved declarations plus one re-export line. No changelog
fragment: users see no change.
