Add id: rust-toolchain to the toolchain steps that the new cache keys read.
The benchmarks and codspeed cache keys read steps.rust-toolchain.outputs.cachekey, but no step in ci.yml sets that id. GitHub evaluates the missing output as an empty string, so the key omits the toolchain component. Add id: rust-toolchain to each dtolnay/rust-toolchain@stable step that a cache key reads.

Review comment at @.github/workflows/ci.yml at line 154:
Add the rust-toolchain step ID to each dtolnay/rust-toolchain@stable step used
by the benchmarks and codspeed cache keys, so
steps.rust-toolchain.outputs.cachekey resolves correctly. Leave unrelated
toolchain steps unchanged.

Remove the issue #298 references from the new benchmark docstring and CI comment.
The module docstring in tests/test_benchmarks.py and the comment above the benchmarks CI job cite issue #298. The repository convention forbids issue or PR numbers in docstrings and code comments, and neither reference is a workaround TODO. Drop the number from both. Keep the explanation in the text itself.

Remove the issue number from the benchmark module docstring and the comment
above the benchmarks CI job, while retaining the explanation that the benchmark
is tracked over time in CI.

Starts small: one benchmark, over an in-memory Dataset that needs no
network, so a regression in xarray-sql, DataFusion or the in-memory
table adapter shows up in the history github-action-benchmark stores

Remove dims= from the benchmark's to_dataset() call.
Inference already resolves lat and lon for the registered grid Dataset, so the explicit argument is not needed. The benchmark then uses the default inferred path. Output is the same either way. Repository guidance in AGENTS.md says not to pass dims= when inference resolves them.

Remove the explicit dims argument from the benchmark’s to_dataset() call and
rely on inference to resolve lat and lon for the registered grid Dataset.
