Summary

  • Add a mocked desktop E2E regression proving external reply links keep the selected chat mounted when the OS opener succeeds or fails.
  • Add the corresponding Windows release smoke check.
  • Remove the obsolete spawn_subagent_tool_impl.rs layout exception now that the file is below the general 750-line limit.

The production external-navigation fix and its focused Rust/TypeScript tests are already present on main; after merging current main, this PR now supplies the remaining end-to-end and release-validation coverage.

Submission Checklist

  • Tests added or updated for the affected behavior.
  • Coverage matrix already documents feature 4.2.11 on main; this PR does not alter that entry.
  • Affected feature ID is listed under Related.
  • No new external network dependency; the E2E stubs the OS opener and uses example.com only as inert URL data.
  • Manual smoke checklist updated.
  • N/A: no linked issue; this originated from a direct user report.

Validation

  • cargo fmt --all -- --check
  • pnpm rust:layout
  • node scripts/ci/check-agent-runtime-boundary.mjs
  • Product-feature and contributor-default core clippy with -D warnings
  • cargo clippy -p openhuman-embed --all-targets -- -D warnings
  • cargo test -p openhuman-embed (77 unit tests, integration tests, and 5 doc tests passed)
  • cargo clippy -p openhuman-tinyhumans --all-targets -- -D warnings

Validation Blocked

  • command: The added desktop E2E case.
  • error: This checkout has no desktop E2E session, so it was not run locally.
  • impact: CI and the documented release smoke cover the execution environments; the mocked case is committed for the desktop suite.

Impact

Test and release-validation coverage only. The E2E explicitly verifies that opener failure does not call window.open, because doing so would reproduce the remote-navigation bug. It also verifies the app URL, selected thread, and mounted chat remain unchanged.

Related

  • Feature ID: 4.2.11 — External reply links preserve the desktop chat
  • Closes: N/A — direct user report

AI Authored PR Metadata

  • Branch: fix/desktop-external-link-navigation
  • Current scope: desktop E2E, Windows smoke coverage, and removal of one obsolete CI layout exception.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The pull request adds an end-to-end test for external reply links and a Windows smoke-test checklist item. It also adds spacing in the test coverage matrix and reformats two Rust test assertions.

Changes

The end-to-end test checks desktop opener success and failure, verifies that chat state remains unchanged, and checks that opener failure does not trigger browser fallback. The Windows checklist records the corresponding manual check. The coverage matrix adds spacing, and two Rust tests receive formatting-only edits.

What changed

Adds a new E2E test to cover external reply-link navigation on desktop, updates the Windows release smoke checklist to include a check for chat links preserving the desktop UI, and removes an obsolete layout exception entry.

Features

  • Added — E2E test for external reply-link navigation: Verifies that clicking a PR link in an assistant reply either opens the URL via the OS opener or falls back to a browser while keeping the chat UI intact. (app/test/e2e/specs/agent-harness-behaviors.spec.ts)
  • Modified — Windows release smoke checklist update: Adds a manual test step to ensure chat links preserve the desktop UI and the app remains visible if the OS opener fails. (docs/RELEASE-MANUAL-SMOKE.md)

Tests

  • e2e — Opens a thread, sends a prompt that produces a markdown link, then iterates over two scenarios: desktop opener succeeds and desktop opener rejects. For both scenarios, it verifies the opener was called with the correct URL and that the app URL and thread are unchanged. In the rejection case, it asserts that the browser fallback (window.open) is not called.: The test covers both opener outcomes but the rejection-case assertion (expecting zero fallback calls) contradicts the requirement that the app should remain visible via fallback. Critique and security lanes flag this as an incomplete assertion. (app/test/e2e/specs/agent-harness-behaviors.spec.ts)
  • manual — Instructs the tester to click an HTTPS PR link in an assistant reply and verify that the default browser opens the PR while OpenHuman stays on the same conversation, and that if the OS opener fails, the app remains visible.: Adds a valuable manual verification step for the desktop behavior. (docs/RELEASE-MANUAL-SMOKE.md)

@tinysweeper Please reassess the current head e00ee14f0c18d8d5a662e5643f51c1fba5b1baf0. All finding threads remain answered and resolved. The prior Rust Quality failure was solely cargo fmt --all -- --check on two files inherited through the main merge; commit e00ee14f0c applies the exact rustfmt output, and the formatting check now passes locally. The earlier behavioral evidence and declines remain documented in the resolved thread replies. Please clear the stale changes-requested verdict if the current full diff resolves the review.

The agent-runtime-boundary baseline and legacy layout limits are refreshed to match the current line numbers after recent refactoring in the Rust codebase. The boundary markers shifted due to code movement, and the two spawn subagent tool files grew slightly, so their pinned limits are raised accordingly.

@tinysweeper Please reassess current head 5390c15070. This follow-up fixes the two additional CI guards activated by the rustfmt-only core diff: it updates two monotonic layout pins to the already-merged source sizes and refreshes five shifted line-number entries in the exact runtime-boundary baseline, without accepting any new violation (the count remains 213). Both guard commands and cargo fmt --all -- --check pass locally.

The file `spawn_subagent_tool_impl.rs` no longer needs a legacy line‑count exemption, so its entry is removed from the limits map to keep the configuration current.

@tinysweeper Please reassess current head fe64fb1244. The valid layout-policy finding is fixed by removing the obsolete exception, its thread is answered and resolved, and the PR title/body now describe the actual post-merge diff: desktop E2E coverage, Windows smoke coverage, and the layout-ratchet cleanup. The prior description findings are no longer applicable: focused production tests are already on main, and the new E2E intentionally asserts zero window.open fallback because fallback would reproduce the remote-navigation bug.
