Install browsers with the resolved .NET Playwright package - #7673
The .NET pipeline fetched npm’s latest Playwright, whose missing playwright-core dependency broke browser installation on Ubuntu, Windows, and macOS. Run the playwright.ps1 shipped with the built Playwright template instead, so browser revisions follow its resolved Microsoft.Playwright package.
The workflow already builds this net10.0 Release template before starting the pipeline. Preserve Chromium-only installation, Linux apt-lock handling, cancellation, and retry limits. Quote the absolute script path for Bash on all runners.
This fixes the CI blocker observed on #7667 (run 42086081622) and #7663. PR #7667 also has a separate unresolved CodeRabbit finding concerning the metadata-only positional Arguments formatter; this pipeline fix does not disposition it.
Validation:
Pipeline Release build passed with zero warnings/errors.
The pipeline now runs the playwright.ps1 script from the resolved Microsoft.Playwright package to install Chromium with dependencies. It quotes the script path for Bash and retains the per-attempt cancellation token.

Layer / File(s)
Summary
Invoke the package-shipped installer tools/TUnit.Pipeline/Modules/InstallPlaywrightModule.cs
The module builds the playwright.ps1 path from the Git root and invokes it with pwsh. It quotes the path for Bash, including apostrophes. The Chromium install arguments and per-attempt cancellation token remain.
thomhurst/TUnit#7665: This PR updates the same installer to pin npx playwright to version 1.64.1; this change instead invokes the package-shipped script.
Merge Risk: Minimal · up to 70e44
The installer is tied to the built Playwright package. No concrete merge-blocking risk was found; hosted CI will validate the full installation.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
[#7672] The issue requires pipeline browser installation to follow the repository's Microsoft.Playwright version (1.64.1) instead of unversioned npm npx playwright install --with-deps chromium. The diff at head 70e4408 changes InstallPlaywrightModule.cs so the Bash command runs pwsh -NoProfile -File <quoted path> install --with-deps chromium. The path points to playwright.ps1 in src/TUnit.Templates/content/TUnit.Playwright/bin/Release/net10.0, which is the output of the resolved Microsoft.Playwright package. This uses the mechanism the issue names: the built .NET Playwright install script. Chromium-only installation, the Linux apt lock timeout, the per-attempt cancellation token, and the retry count of 2 remain unchanged. The issue asks for no coding test, and the pipeline has none for this module. Not verified: the workflow build step that produces the bin/Release/net10.0 script before this module runs. The PR description states that the workflow builds this template first. This repository read did not confirm that step. Hosted CI execution is also not yet observed.

Explanation
The whole-PR diff against merge base 6bc28cd touches one file, tools/TUnit.Pipeline/Modules/InstallPlaywrightModule.cs. Its changes are: a ModularPipelines.Git.Extensions using directive, a script path built from context.Git().RootDirectory.Path, a Bash-safe single-quoted path (forward slashes and escaped apostrophes), and the replaced install command. Each change supports the objective of [#7672]. The PR description states that #7667's CodeRabbit finding is not addressed. The diff contains no change for it, so no unrelated change exists in this PR.

A rabbit checks the script path twice, Then quotes it cleanly, neat and precise. Chromium starts with deps in tow, The package sets which tools to show. One token waits if tasks must slow.
The change looks good. It replaces npx playwright install (npm latest, which broke because playwright-core was missing) with the playwright.ps1 that the built template project ships. Browser revisions then match the Microsoft.Playwright version the tests actually run against, which is the correct root-cause fix.
I checked these points:
TestProject.csproj is in TUnit.CI.slnx, and RunPlaywrightTestsModule already uses NoBuild = true against the same project, so bin/Release/net10.0/playwright.ps1 exists by the time the install module runs.
The path quoting (\\ to /, and ' escaped as '"'"') is correct for Bash on Windows, Linux and macOS.
Chromium-only install, the apt-lock handling, cancellation and retries are untouched.
Non-blocking suggestions:
The path hardcodes net10.0 and Release. If the template's TFM changes, the failure will be a confusing "file not found" from pwsh. A File.Exists(script) check that throws a clear message such as "build the Playwright template first" would make a missing-build failure obvious. It could also share a path helper with RunPlaywrightTestsModule, which builds the same project path separately.
The PR relies on pwsh being on PATH on every runner. GitHub-hosted images include it, so this is fine today. It is worth knowing if self-hosted runners are ever used.
I did not run the browser download or the Linux dependency install, and I did not check CI results. I only read the diff and the workflow. The PR description says the hosted-CI run is still pending.
Replaces npm’s latest Playwright installer with playwright.ps1 from the built template, keeping browser downloads tied to its resolved Microsoft.Playwright package.
The pipeline installs Chromium with its resolved .NET Playwright package.
Both Claude and Codex approved current head 70e4408, and all review surfaces have no blocking findings or unresolved threads. The suggested installer existence check is optional: this path follows the existing Release/net10.0 test-module contract, and a missing script already produces an actionable PowerShell file error. Hosted runners supply pwsh. Keeping this root-cause fix focused; promoting to ready to run hosted CI and the required fresh Claude review. This is the prerequisite for #7667, whose failed browser install must not be blindly rerun.
Ready promotion preserved head 70e4408. Fresh Claude review run 42093580159 is queued; hosted CI has started. Next unit must read that review and every newer review surface, then arm auto-merge if clean. No workflow rerun was used. After this prerequisite merges, #7667 needs the installer fix on its base plus disposition of CodeRabbit thread PRRT_kwDOLJDcx860Nx8e before its merge gate can pass.
The change swaps npx playwright install (npm latest, which was broken) for the playwright.ps1 that Microsoft.Playwright copies into the template's build output. That ties browser revisions to the driver the tests actually use, which is the right fix. RunPlaywrightTestsModule already runs the same template project with NoBuild = true in Release, so the assumption that the build output exists matches existing pipeline behavior. Chromium-only install, --with-deps, retry and cancellation handling are preserved. The quoting (forward slashes plus the '"'"' escape for apostrophes) is correct for Git Bash on Windows.
Minor, non-blocking suggestions:
The net10.0/Release path is now duplicated across two modules. A small shared helper or constant for the template output directory would keep them from drifting if the TFM changes.
If playwright.ps1 is missing, pwsh fails with a fairly opaque error. A File.Exists check that throws a clear "build the Playwright template first" message would make failures easier to diagnose, and would avoid burning retries on a non-transient problem.
As the description notes, the actual browser download and the Linux/Windows runs are only verified by hosted CI, so watch those jobs.

Fresh Claude review run 42093580159 passed with no blockers, and Codex approved current head 70e4408. Read all conversation comments, reviews, and inline surfaces; no threads exist. The optional path-helper and missing-file diagnostics suggestions remain non-blocking as previously dispositioned. CodeRabbit docstring coverage is advisory; the installer change is explained by inline comments and introduces no public API requiring documentation. The merge gate passed and auto-merge is now armed. Hosted CI run 42093579362 is still completing; no rerun was requested. After this prerequisite merges, #7667 still needs the installer fix on its base and disposition of thread PRRT_kwDOLJDcx860Nx8e.
