The WLED patch is currently on Patchwork (https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux-arm-msm/patch/20220425032824.211975-1-danct12@riseup.net/)

And the touchscreen patch should not be upstreamed until the touchscreen driver is in the kernel.

WLED is used for controlling display backlight on this phone.

Is it 36525 really..?

I'm actually not sure, but defining this actually works.

I bet downstream nvt-ts driver prints something, I remember it vomiting a lot of logs to dmesg

1st commit (with touchscreen) should have a description line. Template: "The ${device} is using a ${ts_model} touchscreen, add support for it" <- should be enough IMO

For now, I've added a FIXME to the commit until we can figure out the exact touchscreen is used in the device.

Which kernel driver (config) is used to try this?

stupid me, it's the one added in the target branch

I see,

enum nt36xxx_chips {
        NT36525_IC = 0,
        NT36672A_IC,
        NT36676F_IC,
        NT36772_IC,
        NT36870_IC,
        NTMAX_IC,
};
 ...
static const struct of_device_id nt36xxx_of_match[] = {
        { .compatible = "novatek,nt36525" },
        { }
};

So, driver supports several chips, I dunno why, but I always thought that lavender has 36672a (same as panel)

Correct way would be to add debug print to https://github.com/sdm660-mainline/linux/blob/qcom-sdm660-5.10.y/drivers/input/touchscreen/nt36xxx.c#L576 and figure out which one there is :)

If that's the case, maybe we should change the touchscreen driver compatible to novatek,nt36xxx or something similar.

No, this goes against devicetree rules, compatible string should be very specific (I think?). But driver can support multiple compatible strings. So if you wish you can modify the driver to add

 static const struct of_device_id nt36xxx_of_match[] = {
         { .compatible = "novatek,nt36525" },
+        { .compatible = "novatek,nt36672a" },
         { }
};

and use it in lavender dts, but I'll not require it for this MR. Only the commit message change. I don't know what upstream maintainers will say, they might ask for this.

Given that the touchscreen driver isn't in the kernel yet, it's probably best to ask them.

It has also been ~2 years, and nothing has been done upstream about the driver:
https://lore.kernel.org/all/20201028221302.66583-1-kholk11@gmail.com/

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 uses a Novatek NT36672A touchscreen, so
add support for it.

v5 of that link has:

  • Changed compatible string as per Krzysztof K. request

So probably the compatible initially was something like nt36xxx and then changed in v5 to be more specific.

If an IIO driver uses callbacks from another IIO driver and calls
iio_channel_start_all_cb() from one of its buffer setup ops, then
lockdep complains due to the lock nesting, as in the below example with
lmp91000.

Since the locks are being taken on different IIO devices, there is no
actual deadlock. Fix the warning by telling lockdep to use a different
class for each iio_device.

"BUG: KASAN: stack-out-of-bounds in strncpy+0x30/0x68"

Linux-ATF interface is using 16 bytes of SMC payload. In case clock name is
longer than 15 bytes, string terminated NULL character will not be received
by Linux. Add explicit NULL character at last byte to fix issues when clock
name is longer.

This fixes below bug reported by KASAN:

macsec: offload-related fixes

I'm working on a dummy offload for macsec on netdevsim. It just has a
small SecY and RXSC table so I can trigger failures easily on the
ndo_* side. It has exposed a couple of issues.

The first patch is a revert of commit c850240 ("net: macsec:
report real_dev features when HW offloading is enabled"). That commit
tried to improve the performance of macsec offload by taking advantage
of some of the NIC's features, but in doing so, broke macsec offload
when the lower device supports both macsec and ipsec offload, as the
ipsec offload feature flags were copied from the real device. Since
the macsec device doesn't provide xdo_* ops, the XFRM core rejects the
registration of the new macsec device in xfrm_api_check.

I'm working on re-adding those feature flags when offload is
available, but I haven't fully solved that yet. I think it would be
safer to do that second part in net-next considering how complex
feature interactions tend to be.

v2:
 - better describe the issue introduced by commit c850240 (Leon
   Romanovsky)
 - patch #3: drop unnecessary !! (Leon Romanovsky)

v3:
 - patch #3: drop extra newline (Jakub Kicinski)

The problem was first reported soon after we made many of the
regulators probe asynchronously, though nothing I've seen implies that
the problems couldn't have also happened even without that.

I haven't personally been able to reproduce the lockdep issue, but the
issue does look somewhat legitimate. Specifically, it looks like in
regulator_resolve_supply() we are holding a "rdev" lock while calling
set_supply() -> create_regulator() which grabs the lock of a
_different_ "rdev" (the one for our supply). This is not necessarily
safe from a lockdep perspective since there is no documented ordering
between these two locks.

In reality, we should always be locking a regulator before the
supplying regulator, so I don't expect there to be any real deadlocks
in practice. However, the regulator framework in general doesn't
express this to lockdep.

Let's fix the issue by simply grabbing the two locks involved in the
same way we grab multiple locks elsewhere in the regulator framework:
using the "wound/wait" mechanisms.

Commit 62622da ("ima: return IMA digest value only when IMA_COLLECTED

digests. IMA test #3 assumed the old behavior, that bpf_ima_inode_hash()
still returned also non-fresh digests.

Correct the test by accepting both cases. If the samples returned are 1,
assume that the commit above is applied and that the returned digest is
fresh. If the samples returned are 2, assume that the commit above is not
applied, and check both the non-fresh and fresh digest.

When the dwc3 device is runtime suspended, various required clocks are in
disabled state and it is not guaranteed that access to any registers would
work. Depending on the SoC glue, a register read could be as benign as
returning 0 or be fatal enough to hang the system.

In order to prevent such scenarios of fatal errors, make sure to resume
dwc3 then allow the function to proceed.

[ Upstream commit 96fdd1f ]

9f74a3d ("ice: Fix VF Reset paths when interface in a failed over
aggregate"), the ice driver has acquired the LAG mutex in ice_reset_vf().
The commit placed this lock acquisition just prior to the acquisition of
the VF configuration lock.

If ice_reset_vf() acquires the configuration lock via the ICE_VF_RESET_LOCK
flag, this could deadlock with ice_vc_cfg_qs_msg() because it always
acquires the locks in the order of the VF configuration lock and then the
LAG mutex.

Lockdep reports this violation almost immediately on creating and then
removing 2 VF:

To avoid deadlock, we must acquire the LAG mutex only after acquiring the
VF configuration lock. Fix the ice_reset_vf() to acquire the LAG mutex only
after we either acquire or check that the VF configuration lock is held.

After git bisecting and digging into the code, I believe the root cause is
that _deferred_list field of folio is unioned with _hugetlb_subpool field.
In __update_and_free_hugetlb_folio(), folio->_deferred_list is
initialized leading to corrupted folio->_hugetlb_subpool when folio is
hugetlb. Later free_huge_folio() will use _hugetlb_subpool and above
warning happens.

But it is assumed hugetlb flag must have been cleared when calling
folio_put() in update_and_free_hugetlb_folio(). This assumption is broken
due to below race:

CPU1					CPU2
dissolve_free_huge_page			update_and_free_pages_bulk
 update_and_free_hugetlb_folio		 hugetlb_vmemmap_restore_folios
					  folio_clear_hugetlb_vmemmap_optimized
  clear_flag = folio_test_hugetlb_vmemmap_optimized
  if (clear_flag) <-- False, it's already cleared.
   __folio_clear_hugetlb(folio) <-- Hugetlb is not cleared.
  folio_put
   free_huge_folio <-- free_the_page is expected.
					 list_for_each_entry()
					  __folio_clear_hugetlb <-- Too late.

Fix this issue by checking whether folio is hugetlb directly instead of
checking clear_flag to close the race window.

Patch series "mm: follow_pte() improvements and acrn follow_pte() fixes".

Patch #1 fixes a bunch of issues I spotted in the acrn driver. It
compiles, that's all I know. I'll appreciate some review and testing from
acrn folks.

Patch #2+#3 improve follow_pte(), passing a VMA instead of the MM, adding
more sanity checks, and improving the documentation. Gave it a quick test
on x86-64 using VM_PAT that ends up using follow_pte().

This patch (of 3):

We currently miss handling various cases, resulting in a dangerous
follow_pte() (previously follow_pfn()) usage.

(1) We're not checking PTE write permissions.

Maybe we should simply always require pte_write() like we do for
pin_user_pages_fast(FOLL_WRITE)? Hard to tell, so let's check for
ACRN_MEM_ACCESS_WRITE for now.

(2) We're not rejecting refcounted pages.

As we are not using MMU notifiers, messing with refcounted pages is
dangerous and can result in use-after-free. Let's make sure to reject them.

(3) We are only looking at the first PTE of a bigger range.

We only lookup a single PTE, but memmap->len may span a larger area.
Let's loop over all involved PTEs and make sure the PFN range is
actually contiguous. Reject everything else: it couldn't have worked
either way, and rather made use access PFNs we shouldn't be accessing.

Avoid a use after return by strdup-ing the string.

Further explanation from Ian Rogers:

My command line using tui is:
$ sudo bash -c 'rm /tmp/asan.log*; export

sleep 1; /tmp/perf/perf mem report'
I then go to the perf annotate view and quit. This triggers the asan

hist_browser__run isn't on the stack so the asan error looks legit.
There's no clean init/exit on struct ui_browser so I may be trading a
use-after-return for a memory leak, but that seems look a good trade
anyway.

So we're logging a changed extent from fsync, which is splitting an
extent in the log tree. But this split part already exists in the tree,
triggering the BUG().

This is the state of the log tree at the time of the crash, dumped with
drgn (https://github.com/osandov/drgn/blob/main/contrib/btrfs_tree.py)
to get more details than btrfs_print_leaf() gives us:

So the real problem happened earlier: notice that items 4 (4k-12k) and 5
(8k-12k) overlap. Both are prealloc extents. Item 4 straddles i_size and
item 5 starts at i_size.

Item 5 in the log tree corresponds to item 183 in the filesystem tree,
but nothing matches item 4. Furthermore, item 183 is the last item in
the leaf.

btrfs_log_prealloc_extents() is responsible for logging prealloc extents
beyond i_size. It first truncates any previously logged prealloc extents
that start beyond i_size. Then, it walks the filesystem tree and copies
the prealloc extent items to the log tree.

If it hits the end of a leaf, then it calls btrfs_next_leaf(), which
unlocks the tree and does another search. However, while the filesystem
tree is unlocked, an ordered extent completion may modify the tree. In
particular, it may insert an extent item that overlaps with an extent
item that was already copied to the log tree.

This may manifest in several ways depending on the exact scenario,
including an EEXIST error that is silently translated to a full sync,
overlapping items in the log tree, or this crash. This particular crash
is triggered by the following sequence of events:

- Initially, the file has i_size=4k, a regular extent from 0-4k, and a
  prealloc extent beyond i_size from 4k-12k. The prealloc extent item is
  the last item in its B-tree leaf.
- The file is fsync'd, which copies its inode item and both extent items
  to the log tree.
- An xattr is set on the file, which sets the
  BTRFS_INODE_COPY_EVERYTHING flag.
- The range 4k-8k in the file is written using direct I/O. i_size is
  extended to 8k, but the ordered extent is still in flight.
- The file is fsync'd. Since BTRFS_INODE_COPY_EVERYTHING is set, this
  calls copy_inode_items_to_log(), which calls
  btrfs_log_prealloc_extents().
- btrfs_log_prealloc_extents() finds the 4k-12k prealloc extent in the
  filesystem tree. Since it starts before i_size, it skips it. Since it
  is the last item in its B-tree leaf, it calls btrfs_next_leaf().
- btrfs_next_leaf() unlocks the path.
- The ordered extent completion runs, which converts the 4k-8k part of
  the prealloc extent to written and inserts the remaining prealloc part
  from 8k-12k.
- btrfs_next_leaf() does a search and finds the new prealloc extent
  8k-12k.
- btrfs_log_prealloc_extents() copies the 8k-12k prealloc extent into
  the log tree. Note that it overlaps with the 4k-12k prealloc extent
  that was copied to the log tree by the first fsync.
- fsync calls btrfs_log_changed_extents(), which tries to log the 4k-8k
  extent that was written.
- This tries to drop the range 4k-8k in the log tree, which requires
  adjusting the start of the 4k-12k prealloc extent in the log tree to
  8k.
- btrfs_set_item_key_safe() sees that there is already an extent
  starting at 8k in the log tree and calls BUG().

Fix this by detecting when we're about to insert an overlapping file
extent item in the log tree and truncating the part that would overlap.

The syzbot fuzzer found that the interrupt-URB completion callback in

Testing showed that the problem did not occur if the two error
messages -- the first two lines above -- were removed; apparently adding
material to the kernel log takes a surprisingly large amount of time.

In any case, the best approach for preventing these lockups and to
avoid spamming the log with thousands of error messages per second is
to ratelimit the two dev_err() calls. Therefore we replace them with
dev_err_ratelimited().

trace_drop_common() is called with preemption disabled, and it acquires
a spin_lock. This is problematic for RT kernels because spin_locks are
sleeping locks in this configuration, which causes the following splat:

trace_drop_common() also disables interrupts, but this is a minor issue
because we could easily replace it with a local_lock.

Replace the spin_lock with raw_spin_lock to avoid sleeping in atomic

This happens when TC does a mirred egress redirect from the root qdisc of
device A to the root qdisc of device B. As long as these two locks aren't
protecting the same qdisc, they can be acquired in chain: add a per-qdisc
lockdep key to silence false warnings.
This dynamic key should safely replace the static key we have in sch_htb:
it was added to allow enqueueing to the device "direct qdisc" while still
holding the qdisc root lock.

v2: don't use static keys anymore in HTB direct qdiscs (thanks Eric Dumazet)

Lockdep reports the below circular locking dependency issue. The
mmap_lock acquisition while holding pci_bus_sem is due to the use of
copy_to_user() from within a pci_walk_bus() callback.

Building the devices array directly into the user buffer is only for
convenience. Instead we can allocate a local buffer for the array,
bounded by the number of devices on the bus/slot, fill the device
information into this local buffer, then copy it into the user buffer
outside the bus walk callback.

[ Upstream commit d182575 ]

During inode logging (and log replay too), we are holding a transaction
handle and we often need to call btrfs_iget(), which will read an inode
from its subvolume btree if it's not loaded in memory and that results in
allocating an inode with GFP_KERNEL semantics at the btrfs_alloc_inode()
callback - and this may recurse into the filesystem in case we are under
memory pressure and attempt to commit the current transaction, resulting
in a deadlock since the logging (or log replay) task is holding a
transaction handle open.

Syzbot reported this with the following stack traces:

commit be346c1 upstream.

The code in ocfs2_dio_end_io_write() estimates number of necessary
transaction credits using ocfs2_calc_extend_credits(). This however does
not take into account that the IO could be arbitrarily large and can
contain arbitrary number of extents.

Extent tree manipulations do often extend the current transaction but not
in all of the cases. For example if we have only single block extents in
the tree, ocfs2_mark_extent_written() will end up calling
ocfs2_replace_extent_rec() all the time and we will never extend the
current transaction and eventually exhaust all the transaction credits if
the IO contains many single block extents. Once that happens a
WARN_ON(jbd2_handle_buffer_credits(handle) <= 0) is triggered in
jbd2_journal_dirty_metadata() and subsequently OCFS2 aborts in response to
this error. This was actually triggered by one of our customers on a
heavily fragmented OCFS2 filesystem.

To fix the issue make sure the transaction always has enough credits for
one extent insert before each call of ocfs2_mark_extent_written().

[ Upstream commit 3b3b84a ]

As reported by Jose E. Marchesi in off-list discussion, GCC and LLVM
generate slightly different code for dummy_st_ops_success/test_1():

  SEC("struct_ops/test_1")
  int BPF_PROG(test_1, struct bpf_dummy_ops_state *state)
  {
  	int ret;

  	if (!state)
  		return 0xf2f3f4f5;

  	ret = state->val;
  	state->val = 0x5a;
  	return ret;
  }

  GCC-generated                  LLVM-generated
  ----------------------------   ---------------------------
  0: r1 = *(u64 *)(r1 + 0x0)     0: w0 = -0xd0c0b0b
  1: if r1 == 0x0 goto 5f        1: r1 = *(u64 *)(r1 + 0x0)
  2: r0 = *(s32 *)(r1 + 0x0)     2: if r1 == 0x0 goto 6f
  3: *(u32 *)(r1 + 0x0) = 0x5a   3: r0 = *(u32 *)(r1 + 0x0)
  4: exit                        4: w2 = 0x5a
  5: r0 = -0xd0c0b0b             5: *(u32 *)(r1 + 0x0) = r2
  6: exit                        6: exit

If the 'state' argument is not marked as nullable in
net/bpf/bpf_dummy_struct_ops.c, the verifier would assume that
'r1 == 0x0' is never true:
- for the GCC version, this means that instructions #5-6 would be
  marked as dead and removed;
- for the LLVM version, all instructions would be marked as live.

The test dummy_st_ops/dummy_init_ret_value actually sets the 'state'
parameter to NULL.

Therefore, when the 'state' argument is not marked as nullable,
the GCC-generated version of the code would trigger a NULL pointer
dereference at instruction #3.

This patch updates the test_1() test case to always follow a shape
similar to the GCC-generated version above, in order to verify whether
the 'state' nullability is marked correctly.

commit d99fbd9 upstream.

Bos can be put with multiple unrelated dma-resv locks held. But
imported bos attempt to grab the bo dma-resv during dma-buf detach
that typically happens during cleanup. That leads to lockde splats
similar to the below and a potential ABBA deadlock.

Fix this by always taking the delayed workqueue cleanup path for
imported bos.

Requesting stable fixes from when the Xe driver was introduced,
since its usage of drm_exec and wide vm dma_resvs appear to be
the first reliable trigger of this.

…_child().

[ Upstream commit 3f45181 ]

syzkaller reported KMSAN splat in tcp_create_openreq_child(). [0]

The uninit variable is tcp_rsk(req)->ao_keyid.

tcp_rsk(req)->ao_keyid is initialised only when tcp_conn_request() finds
a valid TCP AO option in SYN. Then, tcp_rsk(req)->used_tcp_ao is set
accordingly.

Let's not read tcp_rsk(req)->ao_keyid when tcp_rsk(req)->used_tcp_ao is
false.

Lockdep considers this an AA deadlock because the different resize_lock
mutexes reside in the same lockdep class, but this is a false positive.
Place them in distinct classes to avoid these warnings.

[ Upstream commit 86a41ea ]

When l2tp tunnels use a socket provided by userspace, we can hit
lockdep splats like the below when data is transmitted through another
(unrelated) userspace socket which then gets routed over l2tp.

This issue was previously discussed here:
https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/87sfialu2n.fsf@cloudflare.com/

The solution is to have lockdep treat socket locks of l2tp tunnel
sockets separately than those of standard INET sockets. To do so, use
a different lockdep subclass where lock nesting is possible.

[ Upstream commit 83f4414 ]

Test case: 2 threads write short inline data to a file.
In ext4_page_mkwrite the resulting inline data is converted.
Handling ext4_grp_locked_error with description "block bitmap
and bg descriptor inconsistent: X vs Y free clusters" calls
ext4_force_shutdown. The conversion clears
EXT4_STATE_MAY_INLINE_DATA but fails for
ext4_destroy_inline_data_nolock and ext4_mark_iloc_dirty due
to ext4_forced_shutdown. The restoration of inline data fails
for the same reason not setting EXT4_STATE_MAY_INLINE_DATA.
Without the flag set a regular process path in ext4_da_write_end
follows trying to dereference page folio private pointer that has
not been set. The fix calls early return with -EIO error shall the
pointer to private be NULL.

When interrupt is turned on while a lock holding by spin_lock_irq it
throws a warning because of potential deadlock.

blk_mq_prep_dispatch_rq
 blk_mq_get_driver_tag
  __blk_mq_get_driver_tag
   __blk_mq_alloc_driver_tag
    blk_mq_tag_busy -> tag is already busy
    // failed to get driver tag
 blk_mq_mark_tag_wait
  spin_lock_irq(&wq->lock) -> lock A (&sbq->ws[i].wait)
  __add_wait_queue(wq, wait) -> wait queue active
  blk_mq_get_driver_tag
  __blk_mq_tag_busy
-> 1) tag must be idle, which means there can't be inflight IO
   spin_lock_irq(&tags->lock) -> lock B (hctx->tags)
   spin_unlock_irq(&tags->lock) -> unlock B, turn on interrupt accidentally
-> 2) context must be preempt by IO interrupt to trigger deadlock.

As shown above, the deadlock is not possible in theory, but the warning
still need to be fixed.

Fix it by using spin_lock_irqsave to get lockB instead of spin_lock_irq.

[ Upstream commit e47f0a5 ]

When starting/proceeding MCC, it will abort an ongoing hw scan process.
In the proceeding cases, it unexpectedly tries to abort a non-exist hw
scan process. Then, a trace shown at the bottom will happen. This problem
is caused by a previous commit which changed some call sequence inside
rtw89_hw_scan_complete() to fix some coex problems. These changes lead
to our scanning flag was not cleared when proceeding MCC. To keep the
fixes on coex, and resolve the problem here, re-consider the related
call sequence.

The known sequence requirements are listed below.

* the old sequence:
	A. notify coex
	B. clear scanning flag
	C. proceed chanctx
		C-1. set channel
		C-2. proceed MCC
(the problem: A needs to be after C-1)

* the current sequence:
	C. proceed chanctx
		C-1. set channel
		C-2. proceed MCC
	A. notify coex
	B. clear scanning flag
(the problem: C-2 needs to be after B)

So, now let hw scan caller pass a callback to proceed chanctx if needed.
Then, the new sequence will be like the below.
	C-1. set channel
	A. notify coex
	B. clear scanning flag
	C-2. proceed MCC

The following is the kernel log for the problem in current sequence.

[ Upstream commit 600258d ]

Packets handled by hardware have added secpath as a way to inform XFRM
core code that this path was already handled. That secpath is not needed
at all after policy is checked and it is removed later in the stack.

However, in the case of IP forwarding is enabled (/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward),
that secpath is not removed and packets which already were handled are reentered
to the driver TX path with xfrm_offload set.

The following kernel panic is observed in mlx5 in such case:
