feat(server, web, mobile): thread links name their environment and never a title - #26239
Agents linked threads as [Title](t3-thread://v1/<threadId>). The link named no environment: clients guessed one, the message's own first, else a unique match among connected environments. A thread on a linked machine therefore resolved only by luck, and the agent instructions carried an exception for it. The title the agent wrote was a stale copy of something users can rename, and clients already replace it with the live title.
Links now carry the environment the way the router does (/$environmentId/$threadId), and agents never write a title:
Server: every tool result's link is <t3-thread://v2/<environmentId>/<threadId>>, a CommonMark autolink with no title, built from the calling server's environment.
Forwarded results are built by the machine that owns the thread.
A task delegated to a linked machine now returns a link to its thread there, as does run_scheduled_task_now.
Instructions: one rule, "In your reply, mention a thread by its link, verbatim. Never a plain title or bare id." The [title](…) template and the linked-machine exception are gone. The agent context budget drops by 123 bytes for Claude and Codex.
Clients: web and mobile render v2 links with the thread's current title, including in mobile question cards.
A v2 link opens exactly its environment's thread.
One the client can't reach renders as "Thread on another machine" (or "Thread no longer available" for its own environment), never a dead click or a raw URL.
v1 links in existing messages resolve as before.
A v2 link is a keyed read of its own thread. Every thread is searched only for a v1 link that the message's environment lacks, as on main. Before, mobile searched them for v2 links too.
On web, an unresolved v1 link is now a non-clickable chip instead of a link that went nowhere.
Docs: the thread-link paragraph in docs/orchestration-v2/orchestrator-mcp-server.md.

Sonnet's miss: the one failure wrote t3://v2/…. Main's one miss wrote no link at all.
Titles Sonnet adds: Sonnet sometimes wraps the link as [Title](t3-thread://v2/…). That still resolves to the right thread and shows the live title, so the two older cases accept a label as long as the v2 link is right. The new case requires the titleless form.
The old rule: with the old instruction and the new link, Sonnet scored 0/4 on found-thread-mentioned-without-link.
Verification
Tests:threadLinks.test.ts, including tests that fail against main's implementation. Also server handler tests, 12 files and 148 tests, including a remote delegated task whose link names the remote environment. Plus web pending-input and minimap tests, 94 mobile tests, and 13 eval unit tests.
Typecheck and lint: typecheck is clean for shared, provider-core, server, web, mobile and evals, and vp run check:changed passes.
Screenshots: none. A known thread renders exactly as before; only the unreachable-thread chip is new.
Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — Thread links now name their environment and display live titles, with unknown targets rendered as non-opening labels. This changes the default server-generated link format and agent reference behavior, requiring human review under the product-default restriction.

Walkthrough
The PR adds environment-scoped v2 thread links and updates their production, parsing, resolution, and display across shared code, MCP results, and web and mobile clients. Legacy v1 links retain message-environment resolution and can resolve across environments when there is a unique match.

Summary
Thread-link parsing, resolution, and formatting packages/shared/src/threadLinks.ts, packages/shared/src/threadLinks.test.ts, packages/shared/src/markdownPipeline.test.ts
Shared utilities parse and format v1 and v2 links, build scoped candidates, collect references, and relabel Markdown. Tests cover link formats, resolution, and Markdown handling.
MCP results and pending-input projections format links with environment and thread IDs. Orchestration instructions, evaluations, tests, and documentation use or describe v2 links. The configured Claude and Codex context byte limits are reduced.
Mobile link resolution and rendering apps/mobile/src/features/threads/*, apps/mobile/src/lib/enrichedLinkPresentation.ts, apps/mobile/src/lib/enrichedLinkPresentation.test.ts, apps/mobile/src/state/entities.ts
Mobile link targets use parsed environment and thread IDs. Live labels load titles for references found in Markdown, and pending-input questions receive the current environment for relabeling.
Web link resolution and display apps/web/src/components/ChatMarkdown.tsx, apps/web/src/components/chat/MarkdownThreadLink.tsx, apps/web/src/components/chat/timelineMinimapItems.ts, apps/web/src/components/chat/timelineMinimapItems.test.ts
The web client resolves parsed thread links and renders resolved or unresolved chips. Timeline previews display readable text instead of thread-link URLs.

Explanation
The title names the feature area (thread links) and the main behavior change (links name their environment and never carry a title). It follows conventional commit form and names the affected components (server, web, mobile). It is specific enough for a teammate scanning history to see the primary change.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's intent. It gives the problem (agents wrote titled links, and the environment was guessed) and the change (v2 links with environment ID, titleless agent output, client rendering, copy behavior, docs). It includes a verification section with test counts, typecheck results, eval tables, and a note that no screenshots were included. The Scope and approval section is missing: it has no linked triaged issue or maintainer discussion, and no justification for skipping one. The template asks for both. The UI change also lacks before/after screenshots. The author justifies this as no visible change for known threads, but the new unreachable-thread chip is a visible UI change, so the template calls for screenshots of it.
Resolution
Add a Scope and approval section. Link the triaged bug issue or the discussion with maintainer approval, or explain why this change qualifies without prior approval. Add before/after screenshots of the web and mobile thread chips, including the new 'Thread on another machine' and 'Thread no longer available' states, or explain why screenshots cannot be provided.

- Another machine: \`t3_environment_links\` lists linked ones. Pass its \`environmentId\` to a T3 tool to act there. Ids are then that machine's, so pass \`threadId\`.
- A machine the user names that is not linked ("delegate this to my vps"): call \`t3_environment_link\` with a \`hint\` from their words. Never ask for a pairing code in chat.
- In your reply, a thread's first mention is its \`link\` verbatim. No \`link\`: \`[title](t3-thread://v1/<exact id>)\`. Never a plain title or bare id. A thread on a linked machine: its title and machine, not its link.
- In your reply, mention a thread by its \`link\`, verbatim. Never a plain title or bare id.
t3_thread_transfer fork results contain only sequence and targetThreadId. t3_thread_wait and t3_thread_interrupt also return only a thread ID. An agent cannot follow the new instruction for these results.
Add a v2 link to these results, or instruct the agent to call t3_thread_read with the returned thread ID before mentioning the thread.

Use the target environment for remote results.
The linked-thread-chip-reads-there case reads thread-deploy-api from environment-vps, but this produces a link to EVAL_ENVIRONMENT_ID. The model can copy that incorrect link and still pass the case. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
Pass the target environment into the result projection and cover the remote link in the case.

Reject empty thread IDs before building a thread link.
When a t3_thread_read call omits threadId, the default branch sets threadId to "". withProductFields then passes that empty string to ThreadId.make. ThreadId rejects empty and whitespace-only strings, so the call throws. The throw escapes answerToolCall as a defect instead of returning an is_error tool result. Skip link generation for blank IDs.

…r a title
Agents linked threads as [Title](t3-thread://v1/<threadId>). The link named no
environment, so clients guessed one and a thread on a linked machine resolved
only by luck, and the written title went stale once the user renamed the
thread.
Tool results now carry a titleless v2 autolink,
<t3-thread://v2/<environmentId>/<threadId>>, built by the environment that owns
the thread. Delegated tasks on a linked machine and run_scheduled_task_now
return one too. Web and mobile open only that environment's thread and show
its current title; a link they cannot resolve renders as a label that opens
nothing, never the raw URL. v1 links resolve as before. The orchestration
instructions drop the titled template and the linked-machine exception, and
the agent context budget shrinks by 123 bytes for Claude and Codex.

…k checks accept a label
An agent's question card on mobile rendered thread links without
relabelling them, so a titleless v2 link showed its raw URL there. The
card now takes the thread's environment and relabels like the feed.
Two older eval cases now require the v2 link to the right environment and
thread and forbid v1, but allow a label: clients show the live title
either way. The dedicated case still requires the titleless form.

If a pending question contains a resolvable v2 thread link, useLiveThreadLinkLabels renders it as a labeled link. Pressing that link still calls useOpenPullRequest, which handles pull requests or passes the t3-thread URL to the operating system. The app does not open the referenced thread, so the user cannot follow the question’s link to inspect it. Parse and resolve thread links in QuestionText, then call useOpenLinkedThread; keep useOpenPullRequest for other URLs. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

…y thread
Mobile resolved every thread link, v2 included, with a pass over all known
threads, and titled links from a map rebuilt over each named environment's
threads on any change. A v2 link now reads only its own thread: one keyed
title atom per linked thread. Every thread is read only to place a v1 link
the message's environment lacks, on web and mobile alike.

…quest, queue and events
Root decision 0210, addendum 3: Buddy, and with it every agent in an
Environment, works with T3's threads as their owner. It reads and summarizes
them, launches, messages, steers and stops them, answers their questions,
decides their permission requests and follows their changes, through `t3
thread`, `t3 request`, `t3 queue` and `t3 events`. Each command is a thin
client of the running server: T3's own MCP tools where one exists, the
person's client surface only where none does.
On v0.1.3 upstream merged its thread tools into action tools (pingdotgg#25423). The
commands keep their surface, sessions, labels and exit codes; only their MCP
calls move: `t3 queue *` calls t3_queue with list, read, edit, cancel,
reorder or promote_to_steer, `t3 request respond` calls t3_pending_request
with respond, and `t3 thread fork` calls t3_thread_transfer with fork. The
tool names are strings the compiler cannot check, so agentCli.test.ts gains a
case that drives every queue action and the fork through the real thread
toolkit; with the old names it and the respond case fail. Upstream's shell
snapshot now takes a query (pingdotgg#24648, pingdotgg#24723) and a WebSocket upgrade names its route
(pingdotgg#24554), so the connection passes an empty query and the test's /ws passes
"rpc". `send --wait` uses Effect.filterOrElse for the new
flatMapConditionalToFilterOrFail diagnostic, and the long header comments are
cut to four lines (pingdotgg#21514).
On v0.1.4: listItemFromShell takes the caller's scope for each thread's link (pingdotgg#26239, pingdotgg#26642), so t3 events passes this Environment's id and its lines carry the same t3-thread:// link as t3 thread list. mcpClientScopes comes from @t3tools/contracts, and the tests stand in for the linked-environment services and server settings that upstream's orchestrator handlers now need (pingdotgg#17129). The fake t3_thread_launch stamps linked callers as upstream's does.
