Typing a space after /goal ends command completion, and typing the full command does not show its subcommands. Keep completion active for the subcommand and add entries for the selected provider.

Codex gets edit, pause, resume, and clear. Edit fills the current objective. Native Claude gets edit and clear because it does not support Codex-style pause and resume. Other providers keep their own commands.

Addresses #25955 and the unsupported-command confusion in #25956.

Verified with vp run check:changed, focused parser and provider-menu tests, and the isolated Browser panel. Selecting /goal edit filled the existing objective.

Walkthrough

The composer recognizes /goal subcommand input and offers matching commands for supported providers. The /goal edit choice is available when an objective exists. Selecting a provider slash command inserts its replacement text when provided.

Changes: Goal command completion

Layer / File(s) Summary
Recognize goal subcommand input
apps/web/src/composer-logic.ts, apps/web/src/composer-logic.test.ts
detectComposerTrigger recognizes a leading /goal followed by spaces or tabs and optional ASCII letters. Tests cover matching and non-matching input.
Expand and select goal commands
apps/web/src/components/chat/ComposerCommandMenu.tsx, apps/web/src/components/chat/composerSlashCommandSearch.ts, apps/web/src/components/chat/composerSlashCommandSearch.test.ts, apps/web/src/components/chat/useComposerMenuItems.ts, apps/web/src/components/chat/ChatComposer.tsx
The menu expands matching goal subcommands for Codex and Claude Agent. It offers /goal edit only when an objective is available. Selecting a provider command uses its replacementText when present.

Possibly related issues

  • Issue 25290 concerns provider slash-command completion in the composer. This change updates that completion path with /goal subcommands, but does not add general mid-message Claude command matching.

Possibly related PRs

  • pingdotgg/t3code#25426: Changes the /goal command contract for Codex and Claude; this change exposes matching provider-specific /goal choices in the composer.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 2cdb6

Goal completion may disappear when a user types extra spaces or a tab. The issue is narrow and does not block merging, but the query should be normalized.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Normalize goal whitespace before searching.

If the user types /goal r or /goal r, the trigger stays active and expandGoalSubcommands generates /goal resume. The search then uses the unnormalized query. Its command-name matching cannot match the repeated space or tab, so the menu shows no subcommand. Normalize the separator to one space before passing the query to both functions.
