On the iPhone Duo, Home's sidebar stuttered while scrolling: its header flickered between minimized and restored, and the list barely moved. iOS 27 minimizes the navigation bar on scroll down by default on the Duo, and since https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/24235 registered Home's list with its screen, UIKit applies that to it.

The thread feed was smooth because UIKit owns its top inset (contentInsetAdjustmentBehavior="automatic"). Home, the pull request list, pull request detail and reviewers set it by hand instead. They read useSafeAreaInsets().top in JS and fed it back as contentInset, plus a JS-pinned resting contentOffset (useRestingTopOffset). While the bar minimizes, the safe area shrinks every frame (82 → 61 → 46 → 78 … on the simulator). Each change round-tripped through JS and moved the content a frame late, UIKit read that as a reversed scroll and restored the bar, and the two looped.

These lists now use automatic like the thread feed, so UIKit moves the inset and the offset in the same frame as the bar, and through folds and column resizes too. That removes the manual contentInset props and useRestingTopOffset (−149 lines). LegendList still gets the header height through contentInsetStartAdjustment for programmatic scrolls, and bottom padding subtracts the safe area UIKit now adds. JS-only, so it reaches the TestFlight build as an over-the-air update.

Before / after (iPhone Duo simulator, folded, Home)

The simulator doesn't apply the Duo's default minimization on its own, so both clips force onScrollDown on Home to match a real Duo. The drags are scripted and identical.

Before: the header flickers and the list stays pinned near the top.

https://gh-file-drop-api-prod-mi5fy3sowv63ufte.pinglabs.workers.dev/f/53e0709cb3b33cd0/home-before.mp4

After: the list scrolls, and the header minimizes and stays minimized.

https://gh-file-drop-api-prod-mi5fy3sowv63ufte.pinglabs.workers.dev/f/1e74cf0a75dbe095/home-native-after.mp4

Also checked on the Duo simulator, settled:

  • Cold launch folded: Home rests below its header.
  • A freshly opened pull request rests below its header (the https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/22978 case).
  • Unfolded, refolded, and pull request detail in the split column: correct resting top, and no added side inset.
  • The end of each list clears the search bar.
  • Switching threads → pull requests → threads restores the scroll position.
  • The pull request tab now minimizes smoothly too.

A pull-to-refresh spinner on the pull request list stays up after a pull, but main does the same on this test backend, so it's not from this change.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at cd1029f

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a focused iOS scrolling bug fix that lets UIKit synchronize navigation-bar insets and list movement, with compensating bottom-padding updates to prevent duplicate safe-area space. It removes obsolete JS offset logic without adding new capabilities or affecting unrelated runtime areas.

Review in Change Stack →

📝 Walkthrough

Mobile home and pull-request scroll views now rely on UIKit automatic content-inset adjustment instead of useRestingTopOffset and explicit iOS top insets. The change also adjusts bottom padding on two lists and removes the hook and its tests.

Changes: Mobile scroll inset adjustment

Layer / File(s) Summary
Automatic inset adjustment across mobile scroll views
apps/mobile/src/features/home/HomeScreen.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/PullRequestReviewersScreen.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/PullRequestRouteScreen.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/PullRequestsScreen.tsx, apps/mobile/src/native/useRestingTopOffset.ts, apps/mobile/src/native/useRestingTopOffset.test.tsx
Home and pull-request scroll views use automatic content-inset adjustment instead of the custom resting offset and explicit iOS top insets. Home and pull-request list bottom padding accounts for safe-area insets. The unused hook and its tests are deleted.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names the mobile fix and the affected screens (Home and pull request lists) and the core change (letting UIKit own the top inset). It matches the changeset, which switches these lists to automatic content-inset adjustment and removes useRestingTopOffset. The title is 70 characters, which fits the short single-sentence guidance. It is slightly broader than the PR objectives' framing around stutter, but it is still accurate and specific.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the template well. It has a clear problem statement (Duo sidebar stutter, header flicker, root cause), a detailed change section (automatic inset adoption, removal of the manual contentInset props and useRestingTopOffset, bottom padding adjustment, OTA delivery), and a verification section with before/after clips and a list of checks on the Duo simulator. The Scope and approval section is missing. It does not link a triaged bug issue or maintainer-approved discussion, and it does not explain why the change qualifies without one. The description also contains an unresolved mismatch with the PR objectives, which describe a useScrollSafeAreaInsets approach rather than the automatic-inset approach shown in the diff. The author should confirm which approach the PR uses.

Resolution

Add a "Scope and approval" section. Link the triaged bug issue or the maintainer-approved discussion, or explain why this focused fix of an obvious bug qualifies without prior approval. Also reconcile the PR objectives with the diff. The objectives describe useScrollSafeAreaInsets and a disabled native safeAreaAdjustment that was dropped, but the description and code summary describe switching to automatic content-inset adjustment and removing useRestingTopOffset. Update the PR objectives or the description so they agree.

Pair the window size with the inset sample in useScrollSafeAreaInsets.

The hook reads width and height from useWindowDimensions() and top from useSafeAreaInsets() in one render. If the dimensions update before the safe-area inset reports the new top, the resize sample carries the old top. holdExpandedTopInset then keeps that old top for every later sample in the same window that reports an equal or lower top. For example, (unfolded, 82) → (folded, 82) → (folded, 54) leaves the scroll inset at 82 until the next resize. The new top of 54 is never applied.

Confirm on device whether the window size and the top inset change together during folding and rotation. If they do not, the stale top can persist. Take the window size from the same safe-area update as the inset, for example with useSafeAreaFrame() from react-native-safe-area-context, so that a resize and its top inset arrive as one sample. Then compare against that paired sample before the held value is reset.

Home, the pull request list, pull request detail and reviewers set their
top inset by hand from useSafeAreaInsets and pinned a resting offset in
JS. On the iPhone Duo, iOS 27 minimizes the navigation bar on scroll down
by default, which shrinks the safe area every frame; each change round-
tripped through JS, moved the content a frame late, and UIKit read that
as a reversed scroll that restored the bar. Home's sidebar stuttered in
place.

These lists now use contentInsetAdjustmentBehavior "automatic", like the
thread feed, so UIKit moves the inset and offset in the same frame as the
bar, through folds and column resizes too. That removes the manual
contentInset props and useRestingTopOffset; bottom padding subtracts the
safe area UIKit now adds.

Use the effective adjusted top inset for saved offsets.

The transparent workspace header contributes to UIKit’s adjusted inset. The current handler adds only insets.top, so a short scroll within the header inset can record 0. Returning to the pull-request tab can then restore the list to its top. Use the same effective inset for recording, initial positioning, and restoring offsets.

@coderabbitai Re: the two inline threads:

  • "Pair the window size with the inset sample in useScrollSafeAreaInsets": that hook was removed when this PR switched to UIKit-managed insets (cd1029f), so the thread is obsolete.
  • "Use the effective adjusted top inset for saved offsets" (PullRequestsScreen.tsx): not changing this. useSafeAreaInsets().top is the screen's safe area, which already includes the transparent bar (82pt at rest on the folded Duo: status bar plus bar). With contentInsetAdjustmentBehavior="automatic", UIKit's adjusted top inset is that same safe area, so recording, initial positioning and restoring use one consistent value. On the Duo simulator, switching tabs away and back restored the exact scroll position.

* feat(relay): deploy on-demand preview stages for labeled PRs

Labeled same-repo PRs deploy stage pr-<n> behind the relay-preview environment reviewer gate. Unlabel or close tears the stage down, and a nightly job retries failed teardowns. Runtime-created managed endpoint tunnels and CNAMEs are swept by a PreviewTunnelSweep resource.

Known gaps, tracked as follow-ups: an interrupted preview deploy can leave runtime tunnels behind; repo-level relay secrets still bypass the environment gate until moved.
