fix(server): t3 service install no longer moves a --base-dir service onto an empty ~/.t3 - #23878
A plain t3 service install could replace a service installed with --base-dir and start serving the empty default home. The saved projects and threads remained in the custom home but disappeared from the client.
Install now checks the existing service's home before downloads, service stops or unit writes. It refuses another home and prints a quoted command for managing it. Status identifies the installed home. t3 up and t3 connect now refuse the same way, before any prompt, T3 Connect sign-in or service.env write, and t3 status (and --json) names the other home instead of claiming the CLI's version. Matching-home repair and upgrade retain their existing behavior.

Head fee8b97b5a3a889134b6ae69a868042ff2a218d2. Current-main qualification against 337c5858c33bc7f8f6dfd391a2c279fa0f7e4d17 produces clean merged tree 74097b56f8425ec45bdbef5543a51fb7120c5325, identical to independently applying the PR diff. The five PR files, dependencies and verification configuration are unchanged since the tests below, run with base 67eebaca23f8f7bc46e8817434087fc9c5acf8e3. The clean merged source passes all 75 focused boot service, service CLI and up tests. The server typecheck exits 0 with no errors and 476 non-blocking suggestions. Integration tests and real-manager CLI transcript.
On physical corex, the source CLI at this head under Node 26.12.1 reports another home's real systemd service in plain and JSON status. t3 up --lan --yes refuses with the correct home and exit code 1. The installed unit hash, manager state, PID/invocation ID and caller service.env remain unchanged. The service was inactive throughout; this was source execution, not a rebuilt native executable.
The added up.test.ts row fails at dff727f and passes with the early guard. The implementation session also ran vp run check:changed origin/main, including affected checks and five test files. CI and Macroscope pass at fee8b97. The follow-up changes only up.ts and its test; the native service-management implementation is unchanged.
The packaged desktop and native CLI evidence below is from ancestor dff727f and covers the unchanged install/refusal, repair, upgrade and saved-data behavior:
Head dff727f11d9cdf701353c215f65cc64b22a1b205, built on main a185dd924889cd7f925760431a9f29b973a35e2f. Reviewed later main through 4b87a45770d24a47f7e6bc40e3f19011e41c7724. The latest overlap refactors an existing repair regression to Effect.failSync; service runtime files are unchanged. The clean merged source passes all 52 focused service tests and the current stricter @effect/tsgo server typechecker. Latest base-advance verification.
The mismatch regression fails on main before the fix. vp run check:changed origin/main passes at the final head, including 53 tests, formatting, lint, knip and affected typechecks.
Current-head CI passes. Fresh independent code and evidence reviews found no remaining findings; all nine review threads are resolved and Macroscope approved this head.
Genuine native CLI/server and packaged Electron built from this head were exercised on physical corex, Ubuntu 26.04/systemd 259, and physical shiv, macOS 27.0.1 arm64/launchd. Local desktop hosting was disabled, so saved data came only from the isolated native services. Linux refusal and repair also passed through manager-discovered relocated unit directories.
Plain install refuses the other home without changing the unit, service PIDs or saved IDs. The packaged desktop disconnects/reconnects and reloads with the saved project, two threads and message retained.

Matching-home install is a no-op. Repair downloads the genuine archive, restarts with the built executable and retains saved data after desktop reload.
normal-repair-electron-dff.mp4
A genuine published 0.1.2 native service upgrades to this 0.1.6 build with the same saved IDs and message after desktop reload.
The actual packaged Electron 44.10.1/app 0.1.6 reports embedded commit dff727f11d9c. A task-scoped HOME and Chromium mock keychain isolate the profile. The recordings capture the native app window; CLI triggers, service state, saved IDs and executable hashes are in matching transcripts.
Other-home refusal preserves the plist, launcher/server PIDs and saved data. The client disconnects/reconnects and reloads with both threads and the saved message retained.
01-refusal.mp4
Same-home no-op and genuine archive repair preserve saved data after reconnect/reload.
02-repair.mp4
A genuine published 0.1.2 service, with no cached 0.1.6 runtime, downloads and upgrades to the exact-head native executable. Both saved threads and the message survive reconnect/reload.

Limits
At fee8b97, native SEA/packaged Electron were not rebuilt, and active-service acceptance or macOS execution of the new up/status path was not repeated. The new CLI path has the source/real-systemd transcript above; the desktop recordings establish their named ancestor build.
Cold login/reboot, real providers, Connect sign-in, real macOS keychain integration and production signing/notarization remain unverified. No provider turns ran. macOS native build and packaging used Node 26.12.1; its initial JavaScript bundles used 26.12.0. The package is ad hoc signed. No Windows or mobile runtime claim is made; the diff changes native Linux/macOS service management and CLI text, with no client or wire-contract changes. Older recordings establish only their named builds.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Service installation and setup now refuse to replace a service belonging to another T3 home, with status output explaining how to manage it. The guard runs before operational changes and leaves matching-home behavior unchanged.

Service management now detects when an installed service uses a different T3 home. Installation refuses to change that service. The CLI reports the installed home and handles the mismatch during onboarding.

Summary
Detect and guard foreign service homes apps/server/src/cloud/bootService.ts, apps/server/src/cloud/bootService.test.ts
Status reports the other base directory when resolved paths differ. Installation returns BootServiceOtherBaseDirError for a mismatch. The test checks that restart skips the service, installation leaves the unit unchanged and runs no commands, and status reports the installed base directory.
CLI status and onboarding apps/server/src/cli/service.ts
The CLI status output shows the other T3 home and the --base-dir argument to manage it. Onboarding routes the new error through setup-failure handling and returns "skipped".
Service protection is improved, but several edge cases can still overwrite or misidentify services, and copied management commands can fail for paths containing spaces.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #23858 requires service install to refuse a unit that serves another T3CODE_HOME, and requires service status to identify that home instead of suggesting repair. bootService.ts reads the existing unit before install work, compares resolved base directories, and raises BootServiceOtherBaseDirError on mismatch. Status sets otherBaseDir, and service.ts prints the foreign home and the required --base-dir option. The regression test verifies the error, unchanged unit, no commands, and status reporting.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes are limited to foreign-base-dir detection, install protection, status and onboarding messaging, and regression coverage in the boot-service code. These changes directly support issue #23858. No unrelated change is evidenced.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template and is substantive. It explains the problem (a plain t3 service install replaces a --base-dir service and serves an empty default home) and the change (install, t3 up, t3 connect and t3 status refuse another home and name the correct --base-dir). It links the issue #23858. The Verification section is very detailed, with commit hashes, recordings, and transcripts. It also lists limits: native SEA and packaged Electron were not rebuilt at the final head, and Windows and mobile are not covered. Gaps: the 'Scope and approval' section links issue #23858 but does not state a maintainer's approval of direction or scope, and it does not explain why the change qualifies without one. The template also asks for a model/harness attribution, which the author included. Verification is long and cites external links and attachments. Some evidence (for example, the desktop recordings) is from an ancestor commit, dff727f, and not the final head fee8b97. The template requires that evidence be stated clearly, and the description does state that. The description is mostly complete, so it passes, but the approval gap is a non-critical point for a bug-fix PR that links an issue.

When status.otherBaseDir is set, onboarding can still ask to repair the installed service. If the user accepts, install refuses the request and onboarding reports a setup failure. Check otherBaseDir before the repair prompt, and leave that service alone.

On the outside-diff onboarding finding (service.ts:233): leaving it. If setup offers the repair and the user accepts, install refuses without touching the service and prints the --base-dir to use. The onboarding early return was in an earlier revision and was cut to keep this PR to the fix for #23858.
@juliusmarminge could you review this one? It fixes #23858: plain t3 service install rewrote a service installed with --base-dir to point at ~/.t3, so users saw every thread disappear. Now install refuses and names the --base-dir to use, and t3 service status shows which home the service serves instead of saying it needs repair.
It is +50/−4 and uses the same base-dir check restart, uninstall and t3 update already have. One tradeoff: a home reached through a symlink also gets refused, and the error names the right --base-dir. I left symlink handling out to keep this small. Happy to add it if you want it.

Updated the branch from main in 126b157 to address the failed Agent Context Budget run. Its test merge contained the older MCP tool budget of 54,964 bytes, while main had reduced it to 42,328. The merged branch now has main's budget, and all four service fix/test files are byte-for-byte unchanged from cef38a5.
Verified on corex-t3 Linux at 126b157: vp test run apps/server/src/provider/AgentContextBudget.test.ts passes, and vp run check:changed passes formatting, lint, both knip passes, generated GraphQL, all three affected typechecks and the 40 service tests. Fresh GitHub checks are pending. No fresh macOS lifecycle run.
The boot service unit is per user, so `t3 service install` from a second T3
home rewrote the unit onto that home's data and the user's threads seemed to
vanish. Install now refuses before any side effect when the existing unit
serves a different base dir, and `t3 service status` reports which home the
installed service serves and the `--base-dir` to pass to manage it.

Physical corex, Ubuntu 26.04/systemd 259, real user service under a dedicated test user. The actual packaged Electron 44.10.1 app reports package commit dff727f11d9c. Its local environment is off; the only enabled connection is the isolated native service at port 45078. The saved project and two idle threads come from the repository's desktop-launch fixture. No provider turns ran. The unrelated missing-provider warning was dismissed through the UI to expose the saved message.
Wrong-home status identifies the installed home. Plain install exits 1. The unit hash, launcher/server PIDs and saved IDs remain unchanged. Electron disconnects/reconnects and reloads, then shows the saved message.
normal-refusal-electron-dff.mp4
Matching-home install is a no-op. Removing only the test runtime's completion marker causes a genuine archive download and repair. The service restarts with the exact built executable hash; the reloaded Electron client retains the saved project, both threads and message.
normal-repair-electron-dff.mp4
A genuine published 0.1.2 service upgrades to this native 0.1.6 build. The running executable path/hash changes, the saved IDs stay identical, and Electron reloads with the saved message visible.
final-upgrade-electron-dff.mp4
Refusal and repair also passed through the systemd manager's relocated UnitPath directory, before switching this owned test manager back to its normal unit directory for the three recordings above. The raw transcripts below name both paths.
Packaged Electron: repository command vp run dist:desktop:artifact --platform linux --target AppImage --arch x64 --output-dir /tmp/pr23878-refresh/desktop-build, clean dff727f source, Node 26.12.1, exit 0. vp run check:changed origin/main passed at dff727f, including 53 tests. The mismatch regression failed before the fix on main cefb544, as recorded below. All live CI checks pass and all nine review threads are resolved. Macroscope approved dff727f without new findings.
Unproven: cold login/reboot, real provider execution and Connect sign-in. Current-head macOS launchd/Electron execution is still queued in existing shiv run r_x1xp4zllk8pstq00; the older macOS clips establish only their named 4e387c7 build. No Windows or mobile runtime claim is made; this diff changes native Linux/macOS service management and CLI text, with no client or wire-contract changes.

Additional native macOS evidence at dff727f11d9cdf701353c215f65cc64b22a1b205, from completed shiv run r_x1xp4zllk8pstq00. Genuine native CLI/archive and packaged Electron were built from clean sources on physical shiv, macOS 27.0.1 arm64, Node 26.12.1.
The launchd checks pass:
Other-home status names the installed home; plain install refuses. Plist SHA, launcher/server PIDs, runtime and saved IDs/messages stay unchanged.
Matching-home install is a no-op. Marker repair downloads the genuine archive and restarts with executable SHA256 3968d150012a8fbcf7666fca5371eaf69e984209784e62f9e29f3a9c2505a30c, preserving the saved data. An immediate post-restart CLI read raced startup and failed; the subsequent snapshot and CLI read passed. The transcript preserves both results.
The final clean upgrade case starts genuine published 0.1.2 with no cached 0.1.6 runtime, downloads and runs the dff727f executable, and preserves all saved IDs/messages. Only case3-clean-* below supports this claim; the earlier exploratory upgrade attempt is excluded.
These are native service/CLI transcripts, not macOS Electron UI proof. The packaged app was only launched with --version; no macOS UI recording was produced. The prior real-HOME constraint selected the existing Electron profile and prevented a safe UI attempt. A new isolated-home/mock-keychain attempt is queued as r_eb4gpxlohfemnq00; it will not access the live profile or keychain.
The current-head Linux packaged Electron recordings still cover the desktop reconnect/reload behavior. Cold login/reboot, real provider turns and Connect sign-in remain unverified. The completed macOS run cleaned its service, PIDs, scratch and worktree; the live nightly PID remained unchanged.

Current-head macOS packaged Electron evidence now passes at dff727f11d9cdf701353c215f65cc64b22a1b205, build base a185dd924889cd7f925760431a9f29b973a35e2f. Run r_eb4gpxlohfemnq00, physical shiv, macOS 27.0.1 arm64, packaged app 0.1.6/Electron 44.10.1.
The actual packaged app reports isPackaged=true and embedded commit dff727f11d9c. It used a task-scoped HOME and Chromium --use-mock-keychain; its Electron profile stayed under that temporary home. Local environment hosting was disabled and the only enabled connection was the isolated native launchd service. The repository desktop-launch fixture supplied the saved project, two idle threads and message. No personal account, real profile, keychain or paid provider was used.
These are continuous recordings of the real native app window. Native CLI commands run outside that captured window; their exact output, timestamps, launchd state, hashes and saved IDs are in the corresponding transcripts below. The videos show service off/on, renderer reload, thread reselection and the retained saved message. They do not show terminal commands on camera.
Other-home refusal: status names the installed home and plain install exits 1. Plist SHA, launcher/server PIDs 24231/24241, running executable and saved IDs stay unchanged. Electron reconnect/reload retains both threads and the message.
01-refusal.mp4
Same-home no-op and repair: no-op preserves the unit, PIDs and saved IDs. Removing only the fixture completion marker causes a genuine archive download and restart to PIDs 27583/27584. The running executable hash matches the built archive. Both reconnect/reload passes retain the saved message.
02-repair.mp4
Clean upgrade: genuine published 0.1.2 runs before upgrade, with no cached 0.1.6 runtime. The current CLI downloads and starts the dff727f native binary, changing launcher/server PIDs 28030/28031 to 28454/28474 and preserving saved IDs. Electron reconnect/reload retains both threads and the message.
03-upgrade.mp4
The signed native archive's executable SHA256 is 35c0b2903ecdc98cb8b0eac1f375729096a26f2369ab7fea49e0d7ba66dcc6f0, matching the actual running binary after repair and upgrade. Its raw build-exe hash differs because the repository archive step signs the executable ad hoc. This is an unsigned/ad-hoc repository test package, not a notarized distribution build.
Build qualification: the initial JavaScript bundles used installed Node 26.12.0; native CLI build, package and archive steps used repository-required Node 26.12.1. Source had no tracked changes and no build identity override. No runtime patch, fake page or DOM injection was used.
I inspected the recordings' beginning/middle/end frames, the visible saved message, source/build provenance and native transcripts. A fresh independent evidence audit found no blocking findings. All final MP4s decode successfully. Cleanup removed the owned service, app/profile, HTTP/debug ports, task scratch and detached worktree; live nightly PID 86933 remained unchanged.
Unproven: cold login/reboot and login-triggered launchd startup, real providers, Connect sign-in, real keychain integration, and production signing/notarization. The current-head Linux packaged Electron evidence remains valid too.
Removed the T3 Code service.
Bad request.

Confirmed /tmp/pr23878-mac-ui removed, including fake HOME, mock profile, app, archives, recordings and fixtures.
Electron PID 14434 absent; native fixture and local archive/debug ports have no listeners.
All own Wrec jobs completed; shared driver/recorder processes left alone.
Confirmed adjacent detached worktree removed after clean tracked diff.
Final recheck: fixture label absent; owned ports empty; nightly PID 86933 still running.
For best results, initiate chat on the files or code changes.
@shivamhwp Thanks for the detailed update. The supplied evidence now covers the previously missing macOS packaged Electron reconnect/reload check at dff727f11d9c.
The transcripts support these results:
Other-home install refuses with exit code 1 and preserves the plist, launcher/server PIDs, executable hash, and saved IDs.
Matching-home install is a no-op.
Marker repair and clean 0.1.2 → 0.1.6 upgrade restart the service with the signed archive’s executable hash and preserve saved IDs.
The reconnect/reload checks report that both saved threads and the message remain visible. The Comment image also shows both threads and the expected saved message.
I have not independently replayed the linked recordings or rerun these checks. The supplied build log supports the ad-hoc signing explanation for the executable hash change.
Cold login/reboot, login-triggered startup, real providers, Connect sign-in, real keychain integration, and production signing/notarization remain unverified, as you noted. Those limits do not contradict the reported refusal, repair, upgrade, or reconnect results.
Rechecked base advance from 8b44f42b14c8e273156474a924ccf29680dd7857 to 95e53a54dbd312fea7e8a2ef94514dc5f1c8ee3d for head dff727f11d9cdf701353c215f65cc64b22a1b205.
The one overlapping change in bootService.ts renames the Effect diagnostic comment from preferSchemaOverJson:off to globalJsonInEffect:off. Its runtime source is otherwise identical. Main also adopts @effect/tsgo 0.67.1, so I tested the integration with that checker rather than relying on the old CI compiler.
In an isolated detached worktree at the new base, I applied the PR's three-file diff and compared its complete staged tree to Git's automatic merge result. Both are 0a481c4b074a532a9d39b02985af456cf89ce586. No conflicts or integration edits were needed. The published head remains unchanged.
The focused service tests pass, and the server package's new effect-tsgo tsrs --noEmit command exits 0 with no compiler errors. It emits non-blocking suggestions, including schema-brand suggestions; these are not a clean-diagnostics claim.
The Linux and macOS recordings still establish runtime behavior at the unchanged head. No native rebuild was needed for this diagnostic-comment-only overlap. Cold login/reboot, real providers, Connect, real keychain and production signing remain unverified.

Rechecked head dff727f11d9cdf701353c215f65cc64b22a1b205 against new main 4b87a45770d24a47f7e6bc40e3f19011e41c7724, after prior checked base 95e53a54dbd312fea7e8a2ef94514dc5f1c8ee3d.
The only overlapping file change is in bootService.test.ts: an existing withStopped repair-failure regression uses Effect.failSync(...) instead of equivalent Effect.suspend(() => Effect.fail(...)). Both service runtime files, bootService.ts and cli/service.ts, are byte-identical between those bases. Main also enables additional Effect diagnostics, so I repeated the affected verification with its current configuration.
I applied the PR's three-file diff in an isolated detached worktree at the exact new base. Its complete tree is 21e97ef2426863f74e9b3a54e6527a250ee7c1ef, identical to Git's clean automatic merge result. No conflict or integration edit was required. The focused service suite passes all 52 tests. Main's effect-tsgo tsrs --noEmit server typecheck exits 0 with no compiler errors; non-blocking suggestions remain and are not represented as clean diagnostics.
The published head is unchanged. The existing Linux and macOS native recordings continue to cover runtime behavior at that head. A test-only refactor requires no native rebuild. Cold login/reboot, real providers, Connect, real keychain integration and distribution signing remain unverified.

Independent current-head review by the authenticated nonauthor reviewer at dff727f11d9cdf701353c215f65cc64b22a1b205.
I traced the issue scenario through BootService.status, BootService.install, the service CLI and the t3 up caller. The new foreign-home guard executes before pinned-runtime installation, service stop, state writes and unit replacement. The added regression checks that a service for another T3 home is reported as foreign, install returns BootServiceOtherBaseDirError, the original unit remains byte-identical, and no manager commands run. The shell-quoted --base-dir hint is consistent with the command-line contract.
Exact-head PR-event CI run #41755898575 is terminal SUCCESS (Lint, Build and Typecheck, all eight Test Server shards, and aggregate Check); later exact-head Mobile Fingerprint run #41939169852 is also SUCCESS. I read selected Test Server logs. The PR is currently 27 commits behind main 4b87a45770d24a47f7e6bc40e3f19011e41c7724; the author's #6645784438 detached-tree equivalence and 52-test focused-suite receipt is author-supplied evidence, not a test I executed independently. I did not run local tests or device acceptance.
One non-blocking P3 follow-up is inline: t3 up still does not render otherBaseDir before its update prompt. The new guard prevents overwrite and the typed error gives the correct home, so this does not block the narrow data-protection fix.
The earlier resolved fail-open Effect.option unit-read thread (#4357683000) remains an explicitly deferred direct-BootService.install edge; the normal CLI preflight reads status first. I did not reopen that already-resolved thread.
No source, branch, CI-admission, merge, host or device custody was taken.
Verified head fee8b97b5a3a889134b6ae69a868042ff2a218d2 against current main 67eebaca23f8f7bc46e8817434087fc9c5acf8e3. Main has no new changes in the PR's five files since the previously checked 4b87a45770d24a47f7e6bc40e3f19011e41c7724. The clean merged source tree is a2fb3ec7d8c33555daef2868e50868efaa38c17f; its focused boot service, service CLI and up suites pass all 75 tests. Server typecheck exits 0 with no errors and 476 non-blocking suggestions.
On physical corex, Linux 7.2.1 x86_64, I ran the published head's source CLI under Node 26.12.1 against the real systemd user manager. The existing service was inactive and belonged to another home. t3 status names that home, JSON includes service.otherBaseDir, and t3 up --lan --yes exits 1 with BootServiceOtherBaseDirError and the quoted --base-dir hint. After each command, the installed unit hash, manager load/active/substate, PID and invocation ID, and the task caller's service.env remain unchanged. No service was started or stopped. This closes the previously missing real-manager transcript for the new CLI path; it does not claim an active-service acceptance run for fee8b97.
The Linux packaged Electron/systemd and macOS packaged Electron/launchd recordings remain baseline evidence from ancestor dff727f, covering the unchanged install/refusal, repair, upgrade and saved-data behavior. fee8b97 changes only cli/up.ts and its regression. No Electron, service-manager implementation, client contract or persistence code changed in that commit.
Not shown at fee8b97: rebuilt native SEA or packaged Electron, active-service CLI acceptance, macOS execution of the new up/status path, cold login/reboot, real providers, Connect sign-in, real keychain integration or distribution signing. The new early guard is shared by up/connect; Connect sign-in was not attempted.
Initial harness attempts hit an unfinished dependency install and SSH's default Node 22; the final checks use repository-local Vite+ 1.4.0 and Node 26.12.1. A transcript assertion initially expected wording absent from the correctly returned typed error; the corrected harness exits 0.

Exact candidate: T3 PR #23878, author-owned branch shivamhwp/t3code:issue-watch/23858, OPEN / UNMERGED at fee8b97b5a3a889134b6ae69a868042ff2a218d2. Previous Worker16-reviewed head: dff727f11d9cdf701353c215f65cc64b22a1b205. This is exactly one additive commit / two paths:
apps/server/src/cli/up.ts
apps/server/src/cli/up.test.ts
Previous P3 follow-up resolved in source: the shared setUp path now checks before.service.otherBaseDir immediately after the read-only readSetup() and returns BootServiceOtherBaseDirError before route prompts, T3 Connect sign-in, service.env writes, reconciliation/install, service stop or restart. readSetup reads service status, service.env, config and secret state; it does not mutate the foreign service. The guard therefore prevents the previous path where t3 up could offer an update/restart for a healthy service belonging to another home and then enter rollback. The new JSON status field exposes service.otherBaseDir; the prior service-status human output and quoted --base-dir hint remain consistent with the existing CLI contract.
Original-scenario regression:src/cli/up.test.ts adds a foreign-home row with a path containing spaces, accepts the proposed --lan change, and asserts zero installs, zero restarts and byte-for-byte unchanged service.env. The test is on the normal Test Server selection and passes. This covers the destructive/restart regression; the source ordering itself establishes that the early error precedes prompts/sign-in/writes.
No new P1/P2 found in this one-commit delta. The prior dff-head approval is not inherited as an approval of fee8b.
Exact-head validation read: normal PR-event Actions #41955946876 is terminal SUCCESS on this SHA. All eight Test Server shards, Lint, Build/Typecheck and final Check succeeded; canonical Test Server 4 log explicitly ran src/cli/up.test.ts (23/23 PASS). Test Web, Release Smoke, Rust and Mobile Native Static Analysis were SKIPPED. I did not dispatch or retry CI.
Native/host evidence boundary: author report #6650198039 reports a physical Linux/systemd user-manager transcript at fee8b97, but it is author evidence, not independently executed here. It reports foreign-home status and t3 up --lan --yes refusal with the installed unit and manager state unchanged; it does not establish active-service restart acceptance, packaged Electron, macOS, cold login/reboot or production behavior.
Current target qualification remains outstanding: PR metadata retains historical base a185dd924889cd7f925760431a9f29b973a35e2f; current main is 337c5858c33bc7f8f6dfd391a2c279fa0f7e4d17, compare 3 ahead / 61 behind. I verified current main advanced 34 commits since the prior review main 4b87a457... without changing any of the five candidate paths, but this does not replace a current-main merge-forward/expected-head check. Author retains all source/branch custody. This COMMENT is not APPROVED, not a merge-forward, not landing authorization and not host/device acceptance.
Addressed the current-main qualification in Wladefant's latest review. The published head remains fee8b97b5a3a889134b6ae69a868042ff2a218d2; current main is 337c5858c33bc7f8f6dfd391a2c279fa0f7e4d17.
Git's automatic merge is clean, with tree 74097b56f8425ec45bdbef5543a51fb7120c5325. Independently applying the PR's complete five-file diff to current main through a temporary index produces the identical complete tree. All five candidate file blobs are byte-identical to the previously tested merged tree a2fb3ec7d8c33555daef2868e50868efaa38c17f.
Since the 75-test, server-typecheck and exact-head real-systemd verification, main added three commits: mobile composer behavior, mobile usage-limit notices and VCS divergence refresh. The merged-tree difference contains exactly those nine unrelated files. No CLI/service implementation, dependency manifest, lockfile or verification configuration changed. I did not repeat unaffected tests or runtime exercises; the existing results remain attributed to their exact head/base/build.
Wladefant's review confirms the up guard resolves the earlier finding and adds no new P1/P2 finding. CI and Macroscope remain green at fee8b97, with no unresolved review threads. No branch update or source edit was necessary.
Evidence limits remain unchanged: new packaged/macOS execution and active-service acceptance at fee8b97, cold login/reboot, providers, Connect sign-in, real keychain and distribution signing are unverified. Older packaged recordings establish their named ancestor build.

Closes #23858
A plain
t3 service installcould replace a service installed with--base-dirand start serving the empty default home. The saved projects and threads remained in the custom home but disappeared from the client.Install now checks the existing service's home before downloads, service stops or unit writes. It refuses another home and prints a quoted command for managing it. Status identifies the installed home.
t3 upandt3 connectnow refuse the same way, before any prompt, T3 Connect sign-in orservice.envwrite, andt3 status(and--json) names the other home instead of claiming the CLI's version. Matching-home repair and upgrade retain their existing behavior.Verification

Limits
At
fee8b97, native SEA/packaged Electron were not rebuilt, and active-service acceptance or macOS execution of the new up/status path was not repeated. The new CLI path has the source/real-systemd transcript above; the desktop recordings establish their named ancestor build.Cold login/reboot, real providers, Connect sign-in, real macOS keychain integration and production signing/notarization remain unverified.
