Problem

Session import only exists in the /welcome wizard, and nothing links back to it once onboarding is done. Conversations started in a terminal after setup, or a project re-added after deleting it, can't be imported at all. Fixes #10961.

This revives #13510 by @Code-Tomato, which was closed only for missing before/after evidence and a recording.

Change

The project's Settings → Project page gets an Import sessions row. Its button runs the same idempotent agentSessions.import the wizard uses, once per checkout the connection can change.

Differences from #13510, each from a review of the importer:

  • Rescan first. AgentSessionScanner caches its candidates until the next scan, so a plain re-import missed conversations started after the last scan. The row calls agentSessions.scan before importing.
  • Per-checkout eligibility. One checkout the connection can't change no longer disables the button for the others.
  • Toast wording. It reports the import outcome, not a project total. An empty result says "No sessions to import" instead of "Sessions imported". A truncated or failed rescan warns that sessions may be missing, since import then reads an older scan.
  • Docs. They mention the 100-conversations-per-run cap.

No server or contract changes.

Scope and approval

#10961 is an open bug: import is unreachable after onboarding. This adds the missing entry point to an existing capability and changes no import behavior.

Verification

  • vp lint and vp fmt --check on the changed files: pass. vp run knip:check: pass. ProjectSettingsPanel.logic.test.ts: 3/3. vp run --filter @t3tools/web typecheck: clean on the nightly this was built from. On current main it reports only two errors already there, in useChatShortcuts.browser.test.tsx.

  • Manual, on a dev build with an empty dev state and a demo folder holding one Claude Code and one Codex conversation:

Before (no way back to import) After
    before-project-settings after-project-settings

Recording: Import → "Importing…" → "Sessions imported: 2 sessions from the last 30 days are imported." → the two imported threads in the sidebar → the imported Claude Code thread with its messages.

    import-sessions-recording
  • Built the Windows x64 NSIS artifact from this branch and installed it over an existing nightly. Existing settings and providers came up normally, and the bundle contains the row.

  • Not checked: mobile, which has no project settings page for this. A real multi-checkout group across two machines.

Session import was only reachable from the /welcome wizard, and nothing
navigates there once onboarding completes. Add an Import sessions row to
the project's settings page that reruns the same idempotent import for
each checkout of the project.

Revives pingdotgg#13510 on current main.

The importer reuses the server's last scan, so an import run from settings
missed sessions started after that scan. Rescan the checkout first.

Enable the row when any checkout can be changed instead of requiring all of
them, word the toast as an import outcome, and note the 100-per-run cap.

…cated scans

A rescan failure after the scanner refreshes its candidates should not stop
the import. Say when the scan hit its cap, and show an info toast instead of
"Sessions imported" when nothing was found.

A rescan that fails before refreshing leaves import reading the old scan,
so an empty result may be stale. Warn that sessions may be missing.

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — Adds a new Project Settings workflow that rescans local agent transcripts and imports them into project threads across editable checkouts. Although it reuses the existing importer and leaves backend contracts unchanged, the new user-facing orchestration and data-import path merit human review.

📝 Walkthrough

Project Settings now provides an action to rescan and import sessions from editable project checkouts. The panel reports import results and incomplete scans. User documentation describes the action, supported conversations, and import limits.

Changes: Project settings session import

Rescan and import sessions

The panel rescans editable checkouts before importing. It continues after per-checkout failures, aggregates imported and skipped counts, and displays result notifications.
Settings entry and documentation

Project Settings includes an import button that is disabled during import or when no checkout is editable. The documentation describes session eligibility, repeat imports, the per-run limit, and where to find the action.

Projects with multiple checkouts on one environment may scan the same sessions repeatedly, making imports slower. The change remains mergeable with this bounded performance concern.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #10961 requires a reachable on-demand import action after onboarding. ProjectSettingsPanel.tsx adds an Import sessions row and button. The handler rescans before import, runs the existing idempotent import for each editable checkout, and skips inaccessible checkouts without disabling eligible ones. The UI reports empty, successful, partial, failed, and incomplete-scan outcomes. The project-settings and welcome-wizard documentation describes the action and the 100-conversation limit. These changes satisfy the issue's coding requirement.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changed panel, agent-session command declaration, and two documentation updates directly support the session-import entry point in issue #10961. Rescanning, per-checkout handling, result notifications, and the import-limit documentation support the same objective. No unrelated product behavior, server code, or contract change is shown.

Rescan once per environment, then import each checkout.

agentSessionScanner.scan scans the whole environment and caches candidates. The current loop invokes it once for every editable member, even when multiple members share an environment. Grouping can place distinct checkout paths from one environment in the same project group.

The scanner can inspect up to 5,000 transcripts per source with a 64 MiB metadata budget. The 100-transcript limit applies to importing, not scanning.

Deduplicate only the rescan. Keep the per-member import calls and their failure reporting:
