fix(web): import agent sessions from project settings after onboarding - #13510
Code-Tomato wants to merge 3 commits into
Conversation
Session import was only reachable from the /welcome wizard, which never reopens after onboarding. Add an Import sessions row to a project's settings that reruns the existing idempotent import for each checkout. Fixes pingdotgg#10961 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — The PR adds a new Project Settings action that scans and imports recent Claude Code and Codex conversations into project history across checkouts. Although it reuses an existing idempotent RPC and leaves onboarding behavior unchanged, it creates a production path handling potentially sensitive conversation data and warrants human review. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

Hey, I had the same problem and I just bumped into a solution that apparently is already baked in. I'm gonna paste what Astra gave me. Sorry, it's AI slop adjacent, but I promise that's good. Hopefully this helps. Yes, no manual database manipulation is required. I double-checked both the source and your installed app: the welcome importer explicitly supports adding conversation history to projects that already exist, even after setup is completed. One clarification: it resumes a saved conversation; it does not take over the currently running CLI process. If Codex is actively writing its transcript during import, T3 can skip that conversation because the file changed. See the transcript stability check. For your situation:
This assumes T3 uses the same Codex home as your CLI, normally I’m confident the supported path exists. I haven’t tested your particular session, so I can’t guarantee its eligibility yet. |

Thanks! That works, it's the workaround this PR is meant to replace. On desktop, DevTools is currently the only way back to import, and it walks you through the Connect and Agents steps again. With this PR, it's Settings → project → Import. Good point on active chats. Not sure exactly what should happen with a running agent. Maybe the script should skip it? |

Note This comment is posted by Julius' dot The supplied screenshot shows the new Import row and success toast, but there is no before view or recording of the new import interaction. The verification requirement calls for before/after UI evidence and a recording when interaction details matter. Please add the comparison and a short capture showing the import progress and resulting session, then request reconsideration. |

Fixes #10961
Session import is only reachable from the
/welcomewizard, and nothing navigates there after onboarding completes. On desktop there is no address bar, so a Claude Code or Codex session started in a terminal after setup can never be imported, even when it ran in an existing project's folder.Project settings now has an Import sessions row. It reruns the existing
agentSessions.importfor each of the project's checkouts and reports the result in a toast. The server import is already idempotent, so repeat clicks skip conversations that were imported before. No server or contract changes. The page is reachable from Settings, the command palette, and the sidebar thread menu, so this covers web and desktop. Mobile is unchanged.User docs for the welcome wizard and project settings mention the new entry point.
Verification
claudesession in the project folder, then clicked Import sessions. The conversation was imported and appeared in the sidebar.🤖 Generated with Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5)
