ApprovabilityVerdict: Needs Human Approval Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This is a broad server-wide tracing-boundary migration across 45 files, including secret and webhook authentication paths. Although most edits preserve operational logic and add focused tracing tests, the sensitive-path changes and altered span/context behavior warrant human review. superviseHubuntraced. The span covers the whole hub lifetime and nests on every restart.
superviseHubfirst waits onhub.child.exitCode. ALocalDeviceHost.superviseHubspan therefore stays open for the full lifetime of the hub process, which can be hours. The span does not end until the hub exits.
Effect.forkDetachkeeps the caller's current span as the parent:
- The first supervisor span is a child of
LocalDeviceHost.ensureHubReady. That span ends long before the supervisor span ends.- Each restart forks the next
superviseHub(replacement, hubTool)from inside the previous supervisor span. Repeated hub crashes therefore build a deeper chain of long-lived nested spans in one trace. The PR goal and
DeviceHubProxy.pumpFramesboth keep long-lived, detached work untraced.superviseHubis the same kind of work.Use

publishActiveThreadsOnceWhenConfigurednow opens a span namedAgentAwarenessRelay.publishActiveThreadsOnceWhenConfigured. The span stays open for the whole retry loop. 🟡 Minor · Make decodeRow untraced, because it runs once per row in… · ScheduledTaskService.ts:284-285

🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winMake
decodeRowuntraced, because it runs once per row in list loops. Before this change,
decodeRowcreated no span. WithEffect.fn("ScheduledTaskService.decodeRow"), every row it decodes now creates a span:
listRows(Line 417) calls it for every task row on eachlist()call.subscribeListcallslist()again after everynotifyChanged.listDueTasks(Line 338) calls it for each due row on every scheduler tick.- Startup recovery (Line 888) calls it for each stuck row.
A user with N tasks therefore produces N child spans on every list re-emit. Task runs and mutations call
notifyChangedoften, so trace volume grows with the task count. The PR's goal is to keep per-item work untraced. The callerslistRows, findTaskandlistDueTasksalready own named spans that cover this decode. The path instructions say to use
Effect.fnUntraced"for per-chunk/event work, tight loops, or helpers already covered by an enclosing span", with a comment that explains the choice.♻️ Proposed fix

Addressed all four remaining nitpicks and the duplicate outside-diff row-decoding finding in 5461b47:
All 84 tests across LocalDeviceHost, DelegatedTaskAnalytics, AgentAwarenessRelay, ScheduledTaskService, and the webhook suite passed, along with targeted lint and the server typecheck. The earlier telemetry, webhook annotation, and VCS-loop fixes remain in place. Dependent layers are rebased and pushed, with their whitespace-ignored diff snapshots refreshed. |

awaitLauncherLoss polls until the desktop launcher exits (or the server stops), so this named span stays open for the backend's lifetime and may never finish on Windows. Consider keeping this lifetime watcher untraced, as with the other long-running loops in this change.

Problem
Reusable server domain operations still use
Effect.genwrappers, making tracing inconsistent across services. Domain I/O should have named spans while telemetry samples, long-running loops, and instrumentation helpers retain their intended overhead and span context.Change
Replace 89 generator wrappers across server domain services, including projects, devices, scheduling, secrets, Git, usage, and resource telemetry. Keep instrumentation, streamed samples, and stack-frame detachment untraced where an additional span would add overhead or alter the intended context.
Tracing choices
Effect.fncovers reusable domain I/O in projects, devices, scheduling, secrets, Git, usage, and related services.Effect.fnUntracedcovers telemetry samples and collection-control helpers, terminal event publication, and the subscription-lifetime VCS refresh loop. Scheduled-task row decoding and subagent analytics callbacks also stay untraced. The hub supervisor and relay startup reconciliation loop are untraced because they can live for the process lifetime or restart repeatedly.Effect.fnUntraced: scheduled-webhook delivery helpers retain task and outcome attributes onScheduledTaskService.triggerWebhook, while direct webhook handling, span-event annotation, and stack-frame detachment retain their intended enclosing context. The relay activity publisher keeps its named operation span inside the relay tracing context.Scope and approval
This is a maintainer-requested layer of the Effect function migration. The maintainer explicitly requested the migration and this PR stack. It updates tracing boundaries in existing operations while preserving their operational behavior, rather than adding a product feature or default. The work is authored by
juliusmarminge(maintainer list); there is no separate public approval discussion.Depends on #21995.
Verification
The server typecheck passed. Fourteen focused suites produced 801 passing tests and one existing failure in GitVcsDriverCore's unusual-path diff test. The same failure was reproduced in an isolated checkout of the implementation before this layer.
The additional loop, row-decoding, and analytics tracing fixes passed 84 tests across the local device host, delegated-task analytics, relay, and scheduled-task suites, plus targeted lint and the server typecheck.
Nonvisual refactor; evidence comes from the focused behavior and tracing tests. No UI verification applies.
