Port the original pingdotgg#13259 changes to V2 lifecycle events, UTC dates, and archived thread snapshots.
ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This XL PR introduces automatic, potentially destructive settled-worktree cleanup and cross-cutting lease/path changes across storage, startup, rollback, launch, and terminal workflows. It also changes the default advertised capability and retains an unresolved Medium-severity failure mode that can suppress an entire cleanup sweep. Adjust the Minimum Blocking Severity for this repo — including turning it Off — in Settings. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

@coderabbitai resume Review fixes are pushed in 5be57b7 and 335659c. Please review the latest head. Startup and rollback now reread state under the physical workspace lease and retry if the path changes. Cleanup keeps deletion blocked when an active session or terminal path cannot be resolved; resolution warnings and real symlink-cycle safety tests cover that case. All 368 focused tests, server type checking, and targeted lint/format checks pass. |

1273-1274: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low valueUse a thread-only read to choose the workspace lease.
getTurnStartContextloads execution records, and rollback loads selected projection records, before the lease. Each initial result is used only to readthread.worktreePath. The loop then loads those records again, under the lease when a worktree exists. UsegetThreadRecords(threadId, [])for the initial lookup and keep the reread. A helper inworkspaceLease.tscould also share the duplicated resolve, lease, and retry flow.Suggested change

Addressed the thread-only lookup nitpick in #15208 (review) with 19b891e. Startup and rollback use getThreadRecords(threadId, []) to choose the initial physical workspace lease, then retain the fresh execution read under the lease and the path-change retry. Tests verify the read selections and preserve all stale-state, path-change, and memory-release checks. dfd163f adds active/archived thread cycle safety tests for the new cleanup finding; the inline reply explains why a lexical fallback is unsafe. All 371 focused tests, server type checking, and targeted lint/format checks pass. The description is updated; maintainer scope approval remains pending. |
Replaces #13259, which GitHub refused to reopen after its head branch was force-pushed.
Settled threads can leave managed worktrees on disk after their work is done. Add an optional retention setting under Settings → Storage. Choose a number of days after settlement, or set 0 days to remove a worktree as soon as the existing safety checks allow it. The setting is off by default and supports project overrides. Branches and thread history remain.
Cleanup skips active sessions, shared worktrees, terminals, and local changes. It retries later when a worktree is in use. Later thread updates can delay removal. Cleanup and provider startup now use the same workspace lease, including checkpoint rollback. If cleanup finishes first, normal turn startup recreates the checkout from its saved branch before opening the provider. If startup finishes first, cleanup waits and sees the active session. The startup lease ends after the session and running state are saved, so provider work does not block another thread in the same checkout. Rollback validates its target and recreates a missing checkout from the retained branch under the lease before opening the session, with or without file restoration. Existing checkouts and threads without worktrees keep their usual paths. Symlink aliases now resolve to the physical checkout before worktree paths are stored or leases are taken. Cleanup uses that same path for shared-thread, session, terminal, and project checks. Missing paths resolve through the existing parent, including dangling aliases, so recovery recreates the retained checkout at its physical path. Terminal open and restart use the same lease identity while keeping their requested cwd.
Updated onto main
4ee6bfd50ef4a089440d5c3662db2298da9cc50e. Cleanup uses V2 settlement/session-stop events, UTC dates, and archived-thread snapshots. Retention rules, UI, and cleanup safeguards keep the original behavior. The original maintainer scope question remains open. It asks whether settlement-triggered deletion of clean, unmerged worktrees fits the existing configuration exception or requires explicit approval. The V2 rebuild request does not answer that question. This PR needs that maintainer decision before merge.

dfd163f665with 371 passing focused tests across 11 cleanup, path identity, terminal, thread launch, startup, rollback, restore safety, provider-session, startup-memory, runtime layer, and MCP files. The primary agent ran the combined suite and repeated the rollback tests after a test typing correction. Server type checking completed with exit status 0 and no TypeScript errors. Targeted lint, formatting, and exact-change diff checks passed. Exact-change Ponytail review before each commit:Lean already. Ship.GitHub checks are rerunning on the latest commit.Startup and rollback now read current thread and run state after taking the workspace lease. If the physical worktree path changed while waiting, they release the old lease and retry under the current path before recovery or provider setup. Regression tests cover stale run/checkpoint state and a path change from either a worktree or the project root. Unresolved provider-session or terminal paths still block deletion; session resolution failures now emit a warning. Real symlink-cycle tests cover both safety guards. Initial startup and rollback lease selection now reads only the thread row; execution records are loaded under the lease. Tests confirm one thread-only read and one full startup read without retaining history. Active and archived thread path-resolution failures also keep the worktree sweep blocked and emit a warning. The new cycle tests preserve an otherwise eligible checkout; cleanup cannot prove that a thread with an unresolved physical path is outside it.
Alias regressions failed before the fix. Tests now cover cleanup in both race orders, direct and parent aliases, missing or dangling targets, shared and archived threads, provider sessions, terminal open/restart, deferred launch, and retry path repair that preserves branch names. The resolver fails on a symlink cycle.
The startup MCP timeout and missing-worktree rollback regressions remain covered by the focused tests, including both cleanup orders and both file restore modes.
The concurrency fix changes server coordination only; the original retention controls and PR images remain.
The before/after images are preserved from the original PR:
