ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR adds a new user-facing policy that can remove settled worktrees, along with event-driven cleanup and cross-environment settings propagation. It also changes the default advertised server capabilities, making this a product-default and consequential runtime change requiring human review. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Settings contracts and project policy resolution carry the new rule. Server cleanup evaluates settlement status and age, rechecks thread data before removal, and coalesces sweep requests. The settings interface shows the retention control when connected environments advertise support. ChangesSettled Worktree Retention

…ktrees With 0-day settled retention, every thread.settled and stopped session-set event queued its own full sweep, and each sweep ran git status, rev-parse and ls-files in every idle worktree before checking the time rules. One auto-settle burst of ~100 threads (plus their session stops) queued ~200 sweeps of ~30s of Git work each on a machine with ~350 worktrees. Collapse queued sweep requests into one pending sweep, and decide the inactivity and settled rules before touching Git so worktrees no rule can remove are skipped. Note This comment is posted by Julius' dot Could a maintainer confirm the direction for deleting a worktree immediately when its thread settles, including an unmerged but clean worktree? This reuses the cleanup safeguards, but adds a new settlement-driven trigger beyond the existing retention rules. The prior-approval rule distinguishes focused configuration from broader workflow choices; please confirm which applies here or link the scope approval so triage can finish. |
|
Yes. With 0 days selected, a clean, unmerged worktree can be removed after settlement once all safety checks pass. The setting is off by default. The branch and thread history stay. I intended this as focused configuration of existing cleanup. The inactivity rule already allows removal before merge. This adds settlement as the retention point and a trigger for immediate cleanup. No separate scope approval is linked in this PR. A maintainer must confirm whether this fits the configuration exception or needs explicit approval. |

Thanks for working on this. We merged the orchestrator V2 rewrite in #2829, and we are closing this PR as part of that transition. Settled-worktree retention reacts to thread.session-set with session.status stopped, a removed V1 event shape. Rebuild its cleanup triggers and settled-thread decisions against V2 lifecycle events. Sorry for the extra work this creates. If the change is still needed on V2, please rebuild it on current main, verify it there, and open a new PR linking back here. We're closing the current implementation without assuming the underlying request is resolved. |
Port the original pingdotgg#13259 changes to V2 lifecycle events, UTC dates, and archived thread snapshots.
Settled threads can leave managed worktrees on disk after their work is done.
Add an optional retention setting under Settings → Storage. Choose a number of days after settlement, or set 0 days to remove a worktree as soon as it is safe. The rule supports project overrides and uses the existing cleanup checks. Branches and thread history remain.
Verified with 292 focused tests, type checks for server, web, contracts, and shared, targeted lint and formatting, and a save and reload check of the 0-day setting in the web app.
Cleanup skips active sessions, shared worktrees, terminals, and local changes. It retries later when a worktree is in use. Later thread updates can delay removal.
