fix(cli): preserve server-issued batch for role suggestion --apply - #798
Current follow-up at a92afee2fba53ce2115b428294ada7013e198c94
Integrated upstream dev c34d26ff while preserving the original CLI fix. Japanese, Korean, Russian and Simplified Chinese now document the 50-changed-role cap, unchanged/unsized/unassigned exclusions, exit 5 before any role update, per-role set fallback, and the canonical recovery contract.
Native Windows verification found the two 50-write cases exceeded the default 5s on both USB and SSD temp paths. Those two cases now use the repository's 30s STORE budget because actual durable writes and restoration are the assertions; all assertions and other deadlines remain unchanged. A missing-batch mutation fails the exact batch assertion, and counting proposals rather than changes fails the exit-code assertion. Both production ablations were restored by hash. Final related tests: 116 pass / 639 assertions, typecheck 2,252 files, structure/privacy/file-size gates, and docs build 633 pages / 91,440 links pass. The two bulk cases measured about 23.25s (apply plus restoration) and 11.95s. Independent read-only review found no blocker. Exact-head Cross-platform CI41124844162 and Catalog41124844119 succeeded; all required checks pass and no unresolved review threads remain. Ready is verified separately and does not imply merge or native application acceptance. Earlier verification below is historical evidence only.
Motivation
The CLI ocx agent roles suggest --apply loop sent each role PUT without the server-issued batch id, which caused a multi-role Apply-all to be recorded as separate history batches and prevented Restore from reverting the operation as a whole.
Description
Preserve and reuse the server-returned batch id while applying proposals so subsequent role PUTs include batch when present.
Accept a batch field on the PUT response, capture it, and add it to later request bodies while leaving the user-facing applied output unchanged.
Update the CLI parity regression to simulate a server-issued batch id and assert that the first write starts a batch and later writes join it.
Files changed: src/cli/agent.ts and tests/cli/cli-headless-parity.test.ts.

Review follow-up
Validated the additive correction on native Linux x64 Bun 1.4.4 (38afee6c8), based on 24fb7a7c95b61ead9e681cbd85fd2bbe8767335b; prepared tree 1eec602ac4a8938801ef23d96b4d7bf7e38ce41f, published as 108cca63a006bd1993910a431a6c5db83a9786b5. The follow-up refuses more than 50 applicable changes before any role PUT, keeps accepted operations in one server-issued batch, and reports partial/unconfirmed outcomes while preserving the original nonzero error. Existing server limits and restore validation are unchanged.

The new regression uses actual management PUT/GET handlers and private on-disk role/history files, with only sizing responses and specific transport failures injected. It verifies 50 writes and complete restoration after source rows leave the listing, 51 changes refused without writes, ignored/no-op proposals excluded from the limit, a real partial 404 refusal with the original exit 4, and lost first/second acknowledgements after actual persisted writes. Lost-response cases preserve exit 1, leave later roles untouched, and perform no retry or rollback.
The existing CLI parity fixture required localhost listener access after the default sandbox rejected listen with EPERM; the permitted invocation passed. The new regression needs no listener. Docs dependencies matched the existing package manifest and lockfile, with shared package links and build caches isolated to this checkout; no fresh install is claimed.
These are 44 passing cases and 804 assertions across the three final test invocations. The full repository suite, test:changed, and Windows/macOS/native execution were not run in this follow-up: the targeted CLI correction is covered by real-handler tests while other priority work proceeds in parallel. Required hosted CI for the new head is separate; the original head's green CI is not transferred to the new commit.
Original implementation evidence at 24fb7a7c
The original report below is retained as historical evidence, not claimed as a new-head rerun:
Ran the focused test node_modules/bun/bin/bun.exe test tests/cli/cli-headless-parity.test.ts with the repository Bun binary and observed all tests pass (107 tests passed).
Ran bun run typecheck and observed no type errors across the codebase.
Ran bun run scripts/file-size-ratchet.ts and it passed.
The system Bun 1.2.14 produced a node:zlib.zstdDecompressSync error when running tests, so the focused suite was executed with the repository Bun (1.4.4) binary to obtain the passing results.
Role suggestions can now apply up to 50 changed roles in one batch. Larger apply requests are refused before any updates are sent; previews remain available.
Apply receipts now report confirmed, uncertain, and unattempted changes, along with the batch identifier when available.
Bug Fixes
If an apply is interrupted, later updates are not attempted, and the original error is preserved. Earlier confirmed updates may remain in place; automatic retries and rollbacks are not performed.
Documentation
Updated guidance to explain the batch limit, interruption behavior, and how to apply individual role choices when the limit is exceeded.

Walkthrough
The CLI now limits each role-suggestion apply to 50 changed roles. It refuses larger applies before writing, applies accepted changes sequentially under a shared history batch, and reports confirmed, unconfirmed, and unattempted roles when a write fails.

The CLI skips matching proposals and refuses applies with more than 50 changed roles before writing. Accepted writes run sequentially and share a history batch. The CLI reports partial outcomes, and the documentation describes the limit and interruption behavior.
Tests cover the batch limit, previews, restoration, partial writes, and lost responses. The test fixtures and layout mappings include the new history test and batch value.

Taking ownership of the requested Linux/code follow-up at 24fb7a7c95b61ead9e681cbd85fd2bbe8767335b, after the priority #796 regression work. Scope: reproduce the 50/51 batch boundary, verify partial apply and restore behavior, and make the smallest necessary correction with regression coverage. The original linked Codex Task and its commit remain the handoff source.
Current remote head, reviews, CI, and visible activity are being checked in isolated workspaces. The old task's unpublished workspace is not accessible from this session, so I am not claiming that it is idle or empty. Any publication will preserve the current commit ancestry and re-check the remote head before a normal fast-forward update. These PRs stay separate; this ACK does not authorize a merge, force push, installed-app replacement, or security/permission setting change.
Refuse more than ROLE_HISTORY_LIMIT changed suggestions before any role

server-issued batch reuse for accepted operations.
Report confirmed writes, an unconfirmed role, unattempted roles and the

roll back a request whose response may have been lost.
Add real-handler coverage for the 50/51 boundary, whole-batch restore,
no-op exclusions, partial refusal and lost acknowledgements. Document
the apply limit and recovery contract.

…ly suite (lidge-jun#8016)
* test(claude): report the hardened local-CA ACL in the first-party apply suite
The local-CA ACL inspection spawns PowerShell under the shared 30 s principal budget, which a loaded hosted Windows runner exhausted (windows 1/11 of lane=all run 41073826161: local_ca_path_unsafe after 30095 ms). This suite covers first-party apply; inject the private ACL for the real current SID through the existing seam. Native inspection stays covered by claude-intercept-local-ca-windows.test.ts.
* test(claude): read the cached SID inside the injected ACL runner and reset it in finally
Review: no separate principal lookup before the environment snapshot; reset the seam even if the hardening drain throws.
