Current integration at 9b9f7a62034bc43c6991e442e405d1d164890e47

Integrated upstream dev 86b72a689c21b97b0a425303e64b54ccceeb530a. The original three-file change is preserved: when final-route capability normalization rejects the thinking toggle on the custom native gateway path, the raw reasoning.enabled field is removed along with the parsed option, while summary and the native snapshot/clamp contract remain intact. This is independent of lidge-jun#8010's hosted tool-choice policy.

Native Windows, pinned Bun1.4.4 with isolated test homes: the three focused files (reasoning-effort-summary-default, responses-hide-raw-reasoning, responses-native-ultra-effort-wire) pass 39 cases / 98 assertions. Typecheck covers 2,253 source files; structure/privacy/file-size gates and diff whitespace checks pass. No new production edits were needed after integration, and independent read-only review found the fix absent from current dev with no duplicate upstream PR. Exact-head Cross-platform CI41130975194, Catalog41130975016 and Service41130974988 succeeded; all required checks pass and no unresolved review thread remains. Ready is verified separately; upstream publication remains with Duri. Earlier CI below belongs to its named historical head and does not prove this integration.

Motivation

  • Final-route capability normalization removed a rejected thinking toggle from the parsed options but did not remove the caller-supplied reasoning.enabled from the preserved raw body used by native passthrough, allowing that stale boolean to be serialized to custom gateway-object upstreams.
  • This could produce incompatible upstream requests or unintended reasoning behavior for operator-configured custom Responses destinations and therefore needs a minimal synchronization fix.

Description

  • When normalizing thinking options in the final-route pass, also remove reasoning.enabled from parsed._rawBody if the provider/model rejects the thinking toggle while preserving other accepted fields such as summary and removing the reasoning object if it becomes empty (src/server/responses/core-normalize.ts).
  • Preserve the existing effort-clamp behavior for reasoning.effort and keep the ultra → max folding semantics for raw passthrough where appropriate.
  • Add a focused regression test that exercises a native openai-responses provider with reasoningWireFormat: "gateway-object" and explicit negative reasoning/toggle capabilities to assert the toggle is removed from both options and the raw passthrough body (tests/responses/reasoning-effort-summary-default.test.ts).
  • Document the invariant in the Responses transport notes to state that final-route normalization removes rejected reasoning controls parsed into options before custom gateway-object serialization (structure/transports/responses.md).

Original implementation testing

  • Ran the focused test file with bun and observed all tests in that file pass: ~/.bun/bin/bun test tests/responses/reasoning-effort-summary-default.test.ts (28 passed, 0 failed).
  • Ran type checking and structure/invariant checks with ~/.bun/bin/bun run typecheck and ~/.bun/bin/bun run structure:check, both of which succeeded with no errors.
  • Ran the repository privacy scan with ~/.bun/bin/bun run privacy:scan, which passed.
  • Note: an initial bun runtime on the system was older and produced a zstd export error, after installing bun v1.4.4 the focused tests and checks completed successfully; bun run test:changed could not be exercised here due to the local checkout lacking the configured comparison ref.

Follow-up verification at 5849c48950c72ddb11c1216fe197d1761c4d140b

Only the owning transport sentence changed. bun run structure:check and git diff --check passed. Product code and regression tests remain unchanged; the original successful CI at 5c5a721b8ba31360738b37d89c38dc83d1063abf is historical code evidence, not CI for this follow-up commit. New-head CI and review acceptance remain outstanding.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Requests sent to routes that don’t support reasoning settings no longer retain rejected reasoning options in the outgoing request. Valid caller-provided summary settings are preserved.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified how unsupported reasoning settings are handled when preparing requests for custom gateways.

Walkthrough

Final-route normalization now removes raw reasoning toggle fields when the corresponding parsed option is unset. A regression test checks that unsupported reasoning and toggle fields are removed while summary: "auto" remains in the native passthrough body. The transport documentation describes this behavior.

Changes: Reasoning capability normalization

Layer / File(s) Summary
Normalize rejected reasoning fields
src/server/responses/core-normalize.ts, tests/responses/reasoning-effort-summary-default.test.ts, structure/transports/responses.md
When normalization unsets thinkingEnabled, it removes raw reasoning.enabled and deletes the reasoning object if it is empty. The regression test confirms that summary: "auto" remains. The documentation describes removal of rejected reasoning fields before custom gateway-object serialization.

Change: Bug fix

Suggested reviewers: lidge-jun, ingwannu

Merge Risk: Low · previous review 5c5a7

The change correctly strips the rejected thinking toggle from native Responses passthrough. The new documentation says rejected effort is always removed, but an unrecognized effort value can still be forwarded. Qualify the doc sentence before or shortly after merge; no functional blocker was found.

Scope: check the documentation qualification against parsed-option behavior and preserve the existing reasoning normalization contract. The original linked Codex Task and commit remain the handoff source.

Current remote head, reviews, CI, and visible activity are being checked in isolated workspaces. The old task's unpublished workspace is not accessible from this session, so I am not claiming that it is idle or empty. Any publication will preserve the current commit ancestry and re-check the remote head before a normal fast-forward update. These PRs stay separate; this ACK does not authorize a merge, force push, installed-app replacement, or security/permission setting change.

…ly suite (lidge-jun#8016)

* test(claude): report the hardened local-CA ACL in the first-party apply suite

The local-CA ACL inspection spawns PowerShell under the shared 30 s principal budget, which a loaded hosted Windows runner exhausted (windows 1/11 of lane=all run 41073826161: local_ca_path_unsafe after 30095 ms). This suite covers first-party apply; inject the private ACL for the real current SID through the existing seam. Native inspection stays covered by claude-intercept-local-ca-windows.test.ts.

* test(claude): read the cached SID inside the injected ACL runner and reset it in finally

Review: no separate principal lookup before the environment snapshot; reset the seam even if the hardening drain throws.

* fix: compare file identity with bigint stat

NTFS file IDs can exceed 2^53, where adjacent IDs are equal as JS numbers. Take dev/ino from stat calls made with { bigint: true } wherever a module compares file identity, and add a shared FileIdentity helper.

* test: register file-identity tests in a layout shard and scan stat calls with balanced parentheses

* test: resolve guard scopes by declaration and ignore strings and comments

* test: mask template text and regex literals, require same-line method bodies and an exact bigint options argument

* test: recognize regex literals after keywords in the identity tripwire

* fix(oauth): name the best-effort catches on the rewritten lock line

* fix(oauth): name the best-effort metadata parse catch beside the lock line
