fix(claude-cli): show subscription quota in provider reports - #7916
The Providers workspace showed No quota data for this provider for the keyless claude-cli subscription row. The page renders /api/provider-quotas, and maybeFetchProviderQuota had no producer for an adapter that holds no OpenCodex credential, so Refresh all quotas returned 200 and still filled nothing.
The Claude usage admission already records the subscription windows in claude-usage-admission.json, and /api/quota-pool already reads them. This publishes the same snapshot as an observed provider report (source: claude-cli:subscription-observation), so the 5-hour, weekly and model-scoped (Fable) windows render. Fetching this Claude CLI report never spawns the CLI or calls Anthropic; other configured providers keep their normal probes. The row keeps its observation time instead of aging out at the 30-minute last-good bound.
The row only ever shows the account Claude Code is signed in to (owner decision on the open review thread). The reader resolves the current sign-in through the admission's currentClaudeIdentityKey, lazily imported so the Keychain reader stays off the core import path, and publishes only that account's snapshot. Signed out, an unreadable sign-in, or no snapshot for that account returns authoritative empty, which clears the previous account's row. Each sign-in read records its hashed key, and a cached row stays current only while the key matches. A turn's admission, or a plain dashboard read past the one-minute identity cache, drops a superseded row without refresh=1. refresh=1 reads the sign-in fresh.
/api/quota-pool follows the same rule (CodeRabbit outside-diff finding). The pool is a passive read and may not read the Keychain, so it lists the Claude CLI account only for the identity the last sign-in read recorded. After a sign-out, an account switch or a restart, the row is absent until the Home's dashboard or a Claude turn reads the sign-in.
The snapshot path, validation and in-memory copy moved to src/providers/claude-cli-usage-state.ts. src/providers/quota.ts is statically reachable from src/server/responses/core.ts, so it must not statically import the adapter's Keychain/child-process layer. The published row carries no routing evidence or decision-quota authority, and it is excluded from reset observation: one reset key would span every account that signs in.
Before (2.93.0 running on this machine, same provider and machine-recorded data):
After (patched source, separate OPENCODEX_HOME carrying the same recorded subscription observation and usage ledger):
The 30-day usage block is identical in both captures; only the current-account usage block changes. No account identifiers, emails, tokens or instance ids are visible.
Verification
At head 9681d5584 (3df7c8dd4 sign-in binding; ordinary merge of origin/dev63de499e1; 3c4b7732c keeps the size ratchet and avoids an extra await when no Claude CLI provider is configured; 7d9bd11c9 fixes the button label CodeRabbit flagged and adds snapshot load/save docstrings; 5a858a167 filters the quota-pool Claude row by the recorded sign-in; 9681d5584 is docs only and states when that pool row lags the sign-in). macOS, Bun 1.4.2, OCX_TEST_NO_QUEUE=1, one Bun test process at a time.
Owner decision (sign-out and account switch must never show the previous account): tests/providers/provider-quota-claude-cli.test.ts covers sign-out → report and account switch → report three ways: forced refresh, after a later sign-in read, and on a plain read at +61s. It also checks that after a switch only the new account's own windows show. The fetch stub asserts zero network calls after every case.
RED with the identity gate removed: 8 pass / 5 fail. RED without the fast-path sign-in re-read: 13 pass / 2 fail (the plain-read cases). GREEN: 15 / 15.
Quota pool: tests/usage/quota-pool.test.ts records the fixture's sign-in and adds signed-out and other-account cases, which must list no Claude CLI account. With the filter removed, those 2 fail. GREEN: 28 / 28. The other pool consumers (quota-pool-relay, link-peer-compatibility, readyz-features, served-by-header, jev-quota-signals) pass 42 / 42.
bun run test:changed (import-connected tests vs dev): 37,425 pass / 1 fail across 1,644 files. The one failure, tests/codex-integration/catalog-omit-disabled-native.test.ts "retained sync and serve-options omit the same rows without changing routed bytes", also fails 3 of 3 runs on a clean origin/dev worktree, so it predates this PR.
The quota-pool identity-race test that timed out in the earlier Windows carry passed 3 of 3 separate runs and passes in the runs above.
bun run typecheck (2,254 files), bun run structure:index, bun run structure:check, bun run privacy:scan, git diff --check: pass.
bun install --cwd docs-site --frozen-lockfile and bun run --cwd docs-site build: pass; 633 pages and 91,435 internal links checked.
Not run locally: the full bun run test suite, and Windows / Linux runtime. Cross-platform coverage is left to repository CI.
Earlier carry history: e470d6374 (stale row after a quota-free snapshot, forced-refresh coverage, scoped no-probe docs) and 4c33a80f1 (Claude CLI rows excluded from reset observation, explicit zero-fetch assertions). All original contributor commits remain.
Checklist
Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults. Only the hashed identity key leaves the admission module, never the access token; display-only observations contain no credentials.
Review readiness checklist

I pushed my PR to a recent dev commit (at most 10 behind; a maintainer may still ask for the exact tip before merge).
I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.
Claude Code subscription usage appears in the Providers workspace and quota reports, showing available 5-hour, weekly, and model-specific windows from the latest recorded observation.
Refreshing quotas rechecks the signed-in account and its recorded usage. Viewing Claude usage does not launch the CLI or contact Anthropic.
Usage appears after a Claude turn records quota windows. Signing out or switching accounts clears the previous account’s row on refresh or within a minute.
Claude usage observations do not trigger quota-reset notifications.
Documentation
Updated guidance to describe Claude Code quota reporting and refresh behavior.
The Providers page renders /api/provider-quotas, which had no producer for
the keyless claude-cli adapter: the subscription windows are recorded only in
the usage-admission snapshot, so the row showed "No quota data" and Refresh
quotas could never fill it.
Publish that snapshot as an observed provider row, the same display-only
marker passive providers already use, and keep the read model under
src/providers so the quota facade (statically reachable from
src/server/responses/core.ts) does not import the adapter's Keychain and
child-process layer. The row carries no routing or decision authority.

only still-valid issues, skip the rest with a brief reason, keep changes

Walkthrough
Claude CLI usage snapshots now use shared provider state. Provider-quota reads can return the latest stored subscription observation for the signed-in account without querying Anthropic or launching the CLI. Tests and documentation cover account-bound reports, refresh behavior, and reset-notification exclusion.
Changes: Claude CLI quota observations

Summary
Shared usage snapshot state src/providers/claude-cli-usage-state.ts, src/adapters/claude-cli/usage-admission.ts, src/quota-pool/assemble.ts, tests/usage/quota-pool.test.ts, structure/quota-pool.md
Snapshot validation, reads, and saves now reside in the shared provider state module. Usage admission uses that module for cache selection, probe results, and refusal recording. Quota-pool assembly reads observations for the recorded signed-in identity and returns no Claude CLI rows when that identity is absent.
Unforced report collection refreshes Claude CLI sign-in. The dispatcher returns a report from the matching stored observation, or no report when the identity or observed quota is unavailable. Claude CLI reports do not produce reset observations. Tests and documentation cover snapshot age, missing windows, refreshes, account changes, and display behavior.

Claude CLI provider reports are display-only historical observations. Do not
turn them into account-default reset evidence. Assert zero fetch calls and
prevent false resets for both same-account and switched-account snapshots.
Co-authored-by: Sayo <82053242+wtfsayo@users.noreply.github.com>
Subsequent review follow-up pushed as 4c33a80f15808ae948732e89b38a4bbaa5c90f52: enforce display-only Claude CLI report semantics by excluding these historical rows from reset observation; assert zero fetch calls explicitly. RED: bun test tests/providers/provider-quota-claude-cli.test.ts — 6 pass / 2 fail, false surprise resets for both unchanged and switched identities. Typecheck, structure index/check, privacy and diff checks passed. Replied to all three new threads and resolved two.
One thread remains open for the maintainer: should this PR replace cache-only historical reporting with current-credential identity validation? Sign-out/account switch without a subsequent admission is not observed by the current contract; no current-account validation is claimed. The initial 116 pass / 1 fail run's quota-pool identity-race timeout remains unresolved; it was not rerun to green or labeled baseline. Readiness stays incomplete.
NOT RUN: full suite, broad test:changed, live account/Keychain/provider checks, cross-platform runtime checks, manual workflows or CI reruns. The earlier docs build passed; no docs-site content changed after it.
Owner decision on the open question: the quota report must not show a previous account after sign-out. Please clear (or re-key) the cached quota on sign-out and on account change, so the report only ever shows the currently signed-in account, and add a regression covering sign-out → report and account switch → report. Cache-only reads are otherwise fine.
The provider-quota row published the newest recorded admission snapshot
regardless of who is signed in, so after a sign-out or account switch it
kept showing the previous account until another admission check ran.
The reader now resolves the current Claude Code sign-in (lazily, keeping
the Keychain reader off the core import path) and publishes only that
identity's snapshot; signed out, unreadable or no snapshot for the account
is authoritative empty. Every sign-in read records its hashed key, and the
row stays current only while it matches, so a turn's admission or a plain
dashboard read past the one-minute identity cache drops a superseded row
without a forced refresh.

Filter the Claude CLI pool row by the current sign-in identity.
claudeCliAccounts calls peekClaudeUsageObservation without an identity, so it returns the newest stored snapshot for any account. After sign-out or an account switch, GET /api/quota-pool can show the previous account's 5-hour and weekly windows as a measured pool row with eligible: true. The provider report path already filters by the signed-in identity. The pool path should do the same.
Current code (src/quota-pool/assemble.ts:275-276) selects the observation with no identity filter:
The import on line 45 must also load claudeSignedInIdentity:
-import { peekClaudeUsageObservation } from "../providers/claude-cli-usage-state";+import { claudeSignedInIdentity, peekClaudeUsageObservation } from "../providers/claude-cli-usage-state";
Limitations of this fix:
The check uses the identity recorded by the last sign-in read in this process. A passive read cannot re-read the sign-in. Until a read records the current account, the row can still show the previous account. After a restart, the Claude row stays absent until a read runs.
Tests that seed the admission file, such as tests/usage/quota-pool.test.ts (admission path at line 71), may need the signed-in identity recorded first. I did not inspect those expectations.

@coderabbitai On the outside-diff finding in src/quota-pool/assemble.ts:275-292 (the Claude CLI pool row isn't filtered by sign-in): fixed in 5a858a167, the way you suggested.
claudeCliAccounts returns no account unless claudeSignedInIdentity() has recorded a sign-in, and it passes that identity to peekClaudeUsageObservation. The pool is a passive read (src/lib/passive-read.ts) and may not read the Keychain itself. So after a sign-out, an account switch or a restart, the row stays absent until the Home's dashboard or a Claude turn reads the sign-in. The limitation is documented in structure/quota-pool.md and the management API reference.
tests/usage/quota-pool.test.ts now records the fixture's sign-in and adds signed-out and other-account cases. With the filter removed, those 2 fail; with it, 28 / 28 pass. The other pool consumers pass 42 / 42, and bun run test:changed is 37,425 pass / 1 fail. That failure also fails on a clean origin/dev.
@wtfsayo Thanks. I inspected 5a858a167. The change addresses the outside-diff finding.
In src/quota-pool/assemble.ts, Line 280–282, claudeCliAccounts returns no account when claudeSignedInIdentity() is absent. It also passes the recorded identity to peekClaudeUsageObservation, which prevents selection of another account’s snapshot.
In tests/usage/quota-pool.test.ts, Line 211–221, the regression cases check that both account rows and pooled windows are empty for a recorded sign-out or another account.
The implementation preserves the passive-read contract in src/lib/passive-read.ts. The pool does not need its own Keychain read.
One precision matters: the filter uses the last recorded sign-in, not a fresh credential check. An external sign-out or account switch remains unknown until the dashboard or a Claude turn reads the sign-in. Once that read records no identity or a different identity, the old snapshot cannot produce a row. After restart, no row appears until a sign-in is recorded.
I verified the source and regression assertions. I did not rerun the tests or independently verify the reported baseline failure.

This publishes the same snapshot as anobservedprovider report (source: claude-cli:subscription-observation), so the 5-hour, weekly and model-scoped (Fable) windows render. Fetching this Claude CLI report never spawns the CLI or calls Anthropic; other configured providers keep their normal probes. The row keeps its observation time instead of aging out at the 30-minute last-good bound.currentClaudeIdentityKey, lazily imported so the Keychain reader stays off the core import path, and publishes only that account's snapshot. Signed out, an unreadable sign-in, or no snapshot for that account returns authoritative empty, which clears the previous account's row. Each sign-in read records its hashed key, and a cached row stays current only while the key matches. A turn's admission, or a plain dashboard read past the one-minute identity cache, drops a superseded row withoutrefresh=1.refresh=1reads the sign-in fresh./api/quota-poolfollows the same rule (CodeRabbit outside-diff finding). The pool is a passive read and may not read the Keychain, so it lists the Claude CLI account only for the identity the last sign-in read recorded. After a sign-out, an account switch or a restart, the row is absent until the Home's dashboard or a Claude turn reads the sign-in.src/providers/claude-cli-usage-state.ts.src/providers/quota.tsis statically reachable fromsrc/server/responses/core.ts, so it must not statically import the adapter's Keychain/child-process layer. The published row carries no routing evidence or decision-quota authority, and it is excluded from reset observation: one reset key would span every account that signs in.Before (2.93.0 running on this machine, same provider and machine-recorded data):
After (patched source, separate
OPENCODEX_HOMEcarrying the same recorded subscription observation and usage ledger):The 30-day usage block is identical in both captures; only the current-account usage block changes. No account identifiers, emails, tokens or instance ids are visible.
