Summary

ocx link add now refuses every Windows Child before the Home stores host trust, issues a link key or starts a tunnel. The refusal points to Hub mode:

mini is a Windows computer. Remote Link Children require macOS or Linux, so no link key was issued and no tunnel was started. Connect it in Hub mode instead: run 'ocx hub invite' on a Hub, then run the printed 'ocx connect' command on mini.

Before this change, a refusal happened only when the Windows host's SSH shell was Git Bash, MSYS or Cygwin. The uname check in the remote ocx script exits 125, and the CLI reported it as "Remote Link failed during remote platform verification", which says nothing about Windows or what to do next. With cmd.exe or PowerShell as the shell, the probe's POSIX true (or sh) is "not recognized", and that showed up as a generic probe_failed / version_probe_failed.

  • src/link/remote-platform.ts (new) classifies a remote result as Windows in three cases: exit 125, a MINGW/MSYS/CYGWIN/Windows uname -s, or the cmd/PowerShell "is not recognized" refusal (Windows PowerShell and PowerShell 7 wording). For localized shells, any other non-transport failure (not 0, 125, 127 or 255) gets one locale-independent follow-up: the fixed literal cmd /c echo %OS%, run against the same strict host key. It prints Windows_NT under cmd and PowerShell in any display language.

  • src/server/management/link-enrollment.ts maps all three cases to remote_platform_unsupported (409) at probe and at confirm-host, before apply. The server message names ocx hub invite / ocx connect, which the dashboard can show as is.

  • src/cli/link-enrollment.ts turns that code into the alias-specific message above. A residual refusal after key issuance keeps the existing Child disconnect/restart recovery.

  • ocx link cleanup [--link-id <id>] [--json] (new, src/cli/link-cleanup.ts) finds Windows Children that were enrolled before the refusal existed, and explains how to move them. It reads the local link store and asks each Home-initiated Child for uname -s, using the link's pinned SSH trust. It never revokes, disconnects or edits anything, and it reports changed: false. For a Windows Child it prints the only recovery order that works:

    1. run ocx disconnect and then ocx restart on the Child;
    2. run ocx link revoke --link-id <id> --force --yes on the Home;
    3. connect the Child in Hub mode.

    A plain revoke fails for these Children: its remote ocx disconnect goes through the POSIX ocx script, which exits 125 on Windows.

  • Docs: docs-site/.../guides/remote-link.md (English) gains a "Windows computers" section, structure/remote-link.md records the new invariant, and the capability registry and generated skills/ocx surface include link cleanup.

Windows-sensitive. The change classifies Windows OpenSSH shell output (cmd.exe, PowerShell, Git Bash/MSYS). The local emulation of scripts/ci/windows-sensitive-diff.sh gives windows=true because added lines contain the powershell marker; the path filter does not match. PR CI stays Ubuntu-only per AGENTS.md, so Cross-platform CI lane=all should be dispatched on this branch before merge. Real Windows hosts were tested only through fixtures here, apart from the read-only live observation below.

Live Home investigation: lnk_ac30f40bb6167a49 (mini)

I used read-only commands only on the MacBook Pro Home (port 10100, ocx 2.89.0): ocx link status --json, reads of ~/.opencodex/link/links.json, lnk_ac30f40bb6167a49.pid, ps and lsof, and the key metadata (id/name only) in config.json. I also ran two read-only SSH commands on mini (uname -s, ocx --version, ocx connect status --json). Nothing was revoked, edited or restarted. ocx link inspect does not exist.

  • How it was created. The record is direction: "hub-initiated" with a pinned hostKeyFingerprint and createdAt 2026-10-11T13:35:02.871Z. Its data key a6f30b93-… is named link:mini and was created at 13:35:02.863Z. Only the enrollment apply route writes this shape, which is what ocx link add and the dashboard's Add Child call. mini's own connectedAt is 13:35:10.983Z. The Windows guard (REMOTE_PLATFORM_UNSUPPORTED, fix(link): verify Child runtime relay and add fingerprint-bound CLI enrollment #6955 / 34bf006) merged at 2026-10-11 17:46Z, about four hours later, and first shipped in v2.84.0. mini still runs opencodex 2.83.0. So it was enrolled before any platform refusal existed. Nothing bypassed a check.
  • What mini is. Windows OpenSSH with Git Bash as its default shell: uname -s = MINGW64_NT-10.0-26200, sh = C:\Program Files\Git\usr\bin\sh.exe, ocx = C:\Program Files\OpenCodex\ocx.exe. Today's Home would refuse it at probe or confirm (exit 125), and ocx link cleanup classifies it as windows.
  • What its tunnel serves. The Home's supervisor runs ssh -N -T … -R 127.0.0.1:52889:127.0.0.1:56603 -- mini (pid 44003, started 2026-10-20 08:10). On mini, loopback port 52889 forwards to the Home's Remote Link listener on 127.0.0.1:56603, which the Home's ocx (pid 43969) owns. That listener serves the link data plane and the allowlisted /v1/link-management reads. mini's client config is transport: "link" with serverUrl and managementUrl = http://127.0.0.1:52889, clients codex and claude, readiness ready. ocx link status reports the tunnel connected. mini's catalog was last synced at 2026-10-11T16:42:44Z, about 10 days stale.
  • Migration note for H3/H6. Because mini's shell is Git Bash, a plain ocx link revoke --link-id lnk_ac30f40bb6167a49 would reach mini. But the remote ocx script exits 125 there, so the Home reports remote_disconnect_failed and restarts the tunnel. The order ocx link cleanup prints is: disconnect on mini, then --force --yes revoke on the Home, then Hub mode.

Verification

All runs used isolated HOME, CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, OPENCODEX_HOME and CODEX_HOME temp dirs, with Bun 1.4.3 as the pinned test runner. The tests are deterministic: fake SSH runner, no sleeps.

  • Focused: tests/cli/cli-link-cleanup.test.ts (new), tests/cli/cli-link-enrollment.test.ts, tests/server/link-enrollment.test.ts, tests/cli/cli-link.test.ts, tests/cli/cli-link-force.test.ts, tests/clients/link-ssh-argv-discovery.test.ts, the test-layout guards, skill-ocx, structure-ssot, repo-hygiene and file-size-ratchet: all pass, exit 0.
    • The new cleanup test writes a real temp-home links.json with Git Bash, cmd, PowerShell, Linux, unreachable and Child-initiated records. It checks the classification, the recovery text, that every check uses the link known_hosts with StrictHostKeyChecking=yes, and that links.json is byte-identical afterwards. Any management API call or tunnel spawn fails the test.
    • New server cases: a cmd.exe or PowerShell probe is refused with remote_platform_unsupported, with no pending host, no known_hosts, no key, no store write and no listener or supervisor. A PowerShell sh refusal at confirm-host is refused the same way.
    • New CLI case: the Hub-mode message appears, and no request follows /api/link/probe.
  • bun run typecheck exit 0. bun run structure:check, bun run skill:surface:check and bun run privacy:scan pass.
  • Full suite, head 6304a59190: /usr/bin/lockf -t 3600 /tmp/ocx-heavy-test.lock bun run test (with GOOGLE_ANTIGRAVITY_USER_AGENT unset) exit 1: 51369 pass / 152 skip / 6 fail. All 6 failures are inherited: 5 in desktop-compatibility-routing and 1 in claude-desktop-remote-hub, with the same counts on a clean origin/dev 79fa350 worktree. The earlier run on 73fb357fe6 (51352 / 152 / 15) also had 8 failures caused by the host's exported GOOGLE_ANTIGRAVITY_USER_AGENT, plus 1 load-sensitive native-profile-processes failure that passes alone.
  • Review fixes (6304a59190): focused link set, tests/clients/link-ssh-argv.test.ts and the guards: 296 pass / 0 fail. New cases:
    • German and French refusals confirmed as Windows by the %OS% follow-up;
    • the same refusal with a non-Windows answer stays probe_failed;
    • exit 255 and 127 never trigger the extra call;
    • PowerShell 7 wording;
    • a residual post-issuance refusal keeps its recovery;
    • cleanup classifies a localized host as windows with exactly one follow-up call;
    • the %OS% probe argv shape.

NOT RUN: Windows or macOS CI shards (lane=all dispatch is the maintainer's), a real cmd.exe or PowerShell OpenSSH host, a dashboard visual check (no GUI files changed), ocx link cleanup against the live Home, and translated docs (English only; the locales already say Windows is unsupported, so nothing contradicts).

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults. (No new route, credential or trust path. Cleanup reuses the pinned link known_hosts with StrictHostKeyChecking=yes, and its unknown-platform reason goes through sshFailureHint.)

…n existing ones

ocx link add and the dashboard already refused a Git Bash Windows Child, but cmd.exe and PowerShell shells surfaced as a generic probe or version failure, and the CLI replaced the refusal with a phase name. Recognise all three before host trust or key issuance, point at ocx hub invite / ocx connect, and add ocx link cleanup, which reports Windows Children enrolled before the refusal and prints the recovery order without revoking anything.

📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Update the src/cli/link.ts command list to include cleanup.

This PR adds ocx link cleanup to src/cli/link.ts. Line 59 still says the file provides ocx link probe|add|port|issue|revoke|status|reconnect. Line 9 documents cleanup, so the document now contradicts itself.

structure/AGENTS.md requires every doc mapped to a changed source area to be reviewed and updated in the same change. Line 59 sits outside the changed lines, but this PR makes it stale.

-`src/cli/link.ts` provides `ocx link probe|add|port|issue|revoke|status|reconnect`.
+`src/cli/link.ts` provides `ocx link probe|add|port|issue|revoke|status|reconnect|cleanup`. `cleanup` is local and read-only; see `src/cli/link-cleanup.ts` above.

After the edit, run bun run structure:check.

Address review on #7496: PowerShell 7 says 'a name of a cmdlet' and localized Windows says neither, so a non-transport failure now gets one fixed, locale-independent 'cmd /c echo %OS%' check against the same strict host key. A residual remote_platform_unsupported after key issuance keeps the Child disconnect/restart recovery instead of the pre-issuance message. structure/remote-link.md lists link cleanup.

Merged with owner authority per maintainer decision 2026-10-21 (jun): the project owner authorized owner-path (--admin) merges for the pending green PRs after the 2.90.0 release; no second-maintainer approval is available.

Exact-head verification on 6304a59190b5502a6c9f41f6198996633bef3496: all checks completed with no failures, the PR is mergeable, there are no change requests, and no unresolved current Major/Critical/P0/P1 review threads. A local squash of this head onto current dev e1d15acd5 passed typecheck, structure:check, the file-size, import-cycle and test-layout ratchets, and this PR's own tests ( 212 pass 0 fail ). Windows-sensitive: true (Cross-platform CI lane=all on this head: https://github.com/lidge-jun/opencodex/actions/runs/39685474228); PR CI never runs Windows (AGENTS.md CI policy), so a Windows-sensitive PR merges only after a green lane=all dispatch. The merge is a squash pinned with --match-head-commit.
