Summary

LazyCodex role rows now expose an effort picker beside the model and always offer Inherit, including for pinned roles. Explicit Inherit clears the effort via JSON null; model-only saves omit effort and preserve the existing pin. Apply this PR after #6909 (the explicit-clear API) and #6908 (effort proposals for every sized role).

Change

  • Keep omission, explicit null and explicit level distinct through individual saves, auto-assign proposals and omo.jsonc mirror retries. A null proposal means no recommendation and leaves the existing pin unchanged.
  • Compare subsequent edits against the last acknowledged TOML write while a follow-up GET is pending or failed. Only a GET started after the acknowledged write supersedes that baseline; older reads cannot invalidate it by publishing during a subsequent PUT. This fixes a reproduced low → high → low sequence that previously dropped the final effort or disabled Save.
  • Show the current model and effort, retain provider-specific existing pins when only changing a model, and preserve accessible controls. Update every locale and the English/translated integrations guides.

Verification

  • Final head: 6a8bfa33071f1b907b4832a8e949a497268bf304; contains dev 7af092ca4f78828238b425bf351d5989e237f89f via non-force merge. Original contributor commits remain intact.
  • bun test tests/lazycodex-role-models.test.tsx tests/lazycodex-role-auto-assign.test.tsx in gui: 30 pass, 0 fail. Four stale-reload cases and two controlled GET/PUT ordering cases were driven red before their fixes, then green (pending/failed GET, effort-only/model+effort, earlier GET published during a later PUT).
  • Final GUI full suite OCX_TEST_NO_QUEUE=1 bun run test in gui: 3267 pass, 0 fail, 338 files. bun run lint, bun run build, prior locale validation: exit 0. Final root bun run typecheck, bun run structure:check: exit 0; file-size ratchet: 9 pass, 0 fail. Layout/tooling/ratchet/Lab guards before the final scoped patch: 53 pass, 0 fail.
  • OCX_TEST_NO_QUEUE=1 bun run test:changed before the final GUI-only race correction: 211 pass, 0 fail, 14 files. Full root suite omitted because five lanes share local resources; root changed coverage plus focused management/API regressions do not replace final hosted validation.
  • Final union (feat(codex): clear a role's reasoning effort with a null effort #6909 → feat(codex): propose a reasoning effort for every sized role #6908 → feat(gui): pick each LazyCodex role's reasoning effort next to its model #6907; a fresh sequential merge-tree is conflict-free and equals the tested tree): 75 API tests + 91 GUI/integrations tests pass, typecheck and structure pass. Earlier union CLI surface and 53 guards passed; final correction changes only this GUI component/test and its owned documentation.
  • Fresh independent Sol review at the final SHA: PASS, 0 blocking P0–P2 findings; all 27 files/consumers inspected and two separate React probes passed 16 assertions, including request ordering, rejected saves, retry intent and newer reads superseding acknowledgements. Prior review found two reproduced stale-read variants; both are fixed with six red/green regressions. A synthetic mounted apiBase change carrying retry state was observed but no reachable production transition was established, so it remains nonblocking. The server clear dependency has its separate feat(codex): clear a role's reasoning effort with a null effort #6909 management/security PASS review. Hosted/cross-platform checks are deliberately deferred to the coordinator's final integration run; no claim of hosted CI passing.
  • Browser QA used the actual component with synthetic role/API fixtures on an isolated Vite/Chrome session. Opened a pinned effort, selected Inherit, saved, and observed the pin clear. Screenshot evidence is on pr-assets, not this branch:

Pinned role effort picker offers Inherit

Thanks, two findings on this round.

Effort list failure blocks the table (LazyCodexRoleModels.tsx:53): reproduced. A 503 from /api/injection-model rejected the whole load and the table showed "Could not load Codex agent roles." Fixed in c9adec3: that lookup now falls back on its own, so each row keeps its pinned effort and the model picker still saves. New case a failed effort list still loads the table and saves a model fails without the fix and passes with it.

Return a pinned effort to Model default (:171): agreed the gap is real, but it is an API contract change, not a GUI one. The role PUT treats a missing effort and null the same (keep the TOML value), so showing the option here would offer a choice that silently does nothing. Defining null as "remove model_reasoning_effort and the omo.jsonc reasoning" touches the route, writeCodexAgentRoleModel and the mirror, so I will send it as its own PR and then show "Model default" on every row. This PR keeps the picker to values the current API writes.

P2 — Mirror retry can undo the effort that the first PUT already committed (gui/src/pages/integrations/LazyCodexRoleModels.tsx:91–97, retry at the row save button).

Concrete source-level sequence on c9adec3a3ad3db9807d065f698a14a4262db5308:

  1. The loaded role is model M / effort low. Select only high and Save.
  2. PUT commits M/high to the role TOML, but returns omoJsonc.status: "write_failed" (the documented partial-success contract).
  3. setEffortDrafts discards the submitted high value; mirrorRetries retains only M. resource.refresh() returns void, so awaiting it does not wait for the replacement GET. While that GET is delayed, or if it fails and retains stale data, the row still supplies low.
  4. The model is unchanged, so Retry omo.jsonc is enabled. Clicking it calls save with the stale row's low, sending M/low and reverting the successful TOML write instead of retrying the failed mirror of M/high.

Please retain the full committed mutation intent (model plus effort, and eventually the omitted/null distinction from #6909) for mirror retry, or retain the draft until a matching authoritative reload acknowledges it. Do not reconstruct the retry from stale resource data or rely on await of a void refresh.

Add a mounted-component regression holding the post-PUT role GET, then retrying and asserting both PUTs carry high; also cover a failed reload. The existing same-model retry test does not exercise an effort change. I prepared a review-only case beside that harness, but it has NOT been executed because foreign builds occupy the shared host; this finding is based on the concrete execution path above, not a claimed test run or live reproduction. The independent effort-list lookup failure is already addressed at this head and is not being requested again.

Thanks, reproduced. Both cases fail on the previous head (c9adec3a3): with the post-PUT role GET held, and with that GET failing, Retry sent { model, effort: "low" } after a committed high.

Fixed in eab3787. When the mirror fails, the row's model and effort drafts and the retry record now keep the saved model and effort, and they are cleared only once a mirror write succeeds. Retry no longer reads the row, so a pending or failed reload can't change what it sends. When #6909 lands, the retry record will carry the omitted/null distinction along with the effort.

New cases in lazycodex-role-models.test.tsx, both asserting that the two PUTs carry high:

  • retrying a failed mirror while the reload is still pending resends the saved effort
  • retrying a failed mirror after a failed reload resends the saved effort

The branch is rebased onto current dev. lazycodex-role-models and integrations-surfaces give 71 pass, and tsc -b and oxlint exit 0.

Thanks, reproduced with the real validateAgentRoleEffort behind the mocked PUT. With a future-provider-effort pin, changing only the model sent that value and got invalid_effort, so the model change couldn't be saved.

Fixed in 2b08275. A normal save sends effort only when the picked effort differs from the row's pin, so a model-only change sends { model } and the row keeps showing the pin. The mirror-retry record now stores the exact body that was sent, along with the displayed model and effort it matches, and Retry resends that body. A model-only retry still leaves effort out, and an effort-changing retry still carries the submitted effort, whether the reload is pending or failed. Backend validation is unchanged, and auto-assign still goes through the same save.

Tests added in lazycodex-role-models.test.tsx, whose PUT boundary now runs validateAgentRoleEffort:

  • a model-only save with an unchanged future-provider-effort pin sends { model } and keeps the pin displayed
  • a model-only mirror retry leaves the effort out after a pending reload, and again after a failed one
  • none, minimal and ultra are accepted by the validator, and future-provider-effort is not
  • the two effort-changing retry cases from the last round still pass

The earlier case "a failed effort list still loads the table and saves a model" used to expect the unchanged medium in the PUT. It now expects { model }, which is the behavior this fix sets. On the previous head, the three model-only cases and that updated case fail.

From gui/: lazycodex-role-models 14 pass, auto-assign plus integrations-surfaces 64 pass, tsc -b and oxlint exit 0, and bun run build builds.

…t field

- The seeded role list lacked efforts, so the effort picker spread undefined and the placement test crashed
- The hint still said Save rewrites only the model line, which the effort picker made false; every locale follows
- Picking just a reasoning effort enables Save, sends the effort with the unchanged model, and shows both in Current
- A failed /api/injection-model read rejected the whole load; the table now falls back to each row's pinned effort
- A mirror retry rebuilt its body from the row, which still held the old effort until the reload landed or after it failed, so Retry could undo the saved effort; the drafts and the retry now keep the saved model and effort until a mirror succeeds
- A model-only save resent the pinned effort, so a pin the server does not declare made the model change fail with invalid_effort; the PUT now carries effort only when it changed, the row still shows the pin, and a mirror retry resends exactly the submitted body

- The integrations guide named only the model mirror; a GUI save also writes reasoning when the effort changed and LazyCodex supports it

Thanks, the guide described only the model mirror. Fixed in 9b6fa25: it now says a save writes the model to [codex].agents.<role>.model, and also writes reasoning in the same entry when the effort changed and LazyCodex supports that level. A model-only save sends no effort (2b08275), so it leaves reasoning as it was. The statements about LazyCodex 5.1.1, not creating the file, and skipping a file with comments are unchanged.

…ing effort (#6960)

Carries LilMGenius's LazyCodex role reasoning-effort series (#6909, #6908, #6907) onto dev as one change.

- The omo tab role table has an effort picker next to each model picker; Current shows "model · effort", and "Inherit effort" clears a pinned effort.
- PUT /api/codex-agent-roles/{role} keeps the pin when effort is omitted, sets it for a level, and with null removes the root model_reasoning_effort line and the omo.jsonc reasoning.
- Auto-assign proposes an effort for every sized role whose model has a non-empty ladder; --apply/Apply inserts or replaces it, and an empty ladder never clears a pin.

Maintainer fixes on top: refuse clearing a multiline effort (409 unsupported_model_value) and keep the BOM; keep a pending omo.jsonc mirror retry's effort across later saves and Apply; clear an unterminated last effort line in place; publish a confirmed save into the role store when the reload fails; docs and structure/subagents.md match the behavior.

Supersedes #6907, #6908 and #6909.

Superseded by #6960 (merged as 7258420), which carries #6907, #6908 and #6909 onto current dev as one change with a Co-authored-by trailer crediting @LilMGenius. Exact-head review on the carried head confirmed this PR's runtime and dashboard behavior is fully carried (the row label became "Inherit effort"). One gap: #6960 updated only the English integrations guide, so the fr, ja, ko, ru, tr, zh-cn and zh-tw sections from this PR are not on dev yet. A follow-up docs PR will carry them. Closing; thank you for the series.

Restores the fr, ja, ko, ru, tr, zh-cn and zh-tw LazyCodex role reasoning-effort sections from #6907 that #6960 did not carry, corrected to the behavior on dev: the per-locale "Inherit effort" label, the null clear and its 409 unsupported_model_value refusal, auto-assign proposing an effort for every sized role, an empty ladder never clearing a pin, and the Retry omo.jsonc button including a carried null. The English guide gains the matching Retry omo.jsonc paragraph.
