fix(codex): re-pin the upstream model snapshot to openai/codex 6cfe29984 - #5579
Conversation
The pinned catalog still described GPT-5.6-Sol as the "Latest frontier agentic coding model" and ranked it first, while upstream now ships GPT-6-Astra as the listed flagship (priority 1) and describes Sol as the "Reliable agentic workhorse for everyday tasks." (openai/codex #47085). The re-pin also brings 272k/872k 5.6 windows, 0.144.0 client floors, the hidden gpt-5.4 row with its Terra upgrade, the Daybreak rows, and drops the retired gpt-5.4-mini and gpt-5.2 rows (#44250). Upstream stopped shipping top-level base_instructions (#43604), so the pinned-row projection now derives it from model_messages.instructions_template for every row, as it already did for gpt-6-astra. The JSON stays byte-identical to upstream.

Run and document the affected catalog tests on the final source state.
The plan records only bun run typecheck and states that tests were not run locally. Run bun run test:changed for import-connected coverage, then run the affected data-driven catalog tests explicitly. Record the commands, results, and remaining CI coverage in the Verification section.

Update the user documentation for the catalog change.
This projection changes the user-visible pinned catalog when the upstream snapshot changes model priority, descriptions, and availability. Add the planned docs-site/ updates for the revised snapshot behavior before merge.
As per coding guidelines: “Update docs-site/ when the change affects user-visible behavior or configuration.”

…984 (lidge-jun#5579) * fix(codex): re-pin the upstream model snapshot to openai/codex 6cfe29984 The pinned catalog still described GPT-5.6-Sol as the "Latest frontier agentic coding model" and ranked it first, while upstream now ships GPT-6-Astra as the listed flagship (priority 1) and describes Sol as the "Reliable agentic workhorse for everyday tasks." (openai/codex #47085). * test(codex): expect the re-pinned Sol priority (4) in catalog order oracles
Summary
The pinned catalog in
src/codex/data/upstream-models.jsonhad drifted from openai/codex. It still described GPT-5.6-Sol as the "Latest frontier agentic coding model" and ranked it first, while upstream now lists GPT-6-Astra as the flagship (priority 1) and calls Sol the "Reliable agentic workhorse for everyday tasks." (openai/codex #47085). The Codex picker and subagent descriptions showed the stale wording. This re-pins the file byte-for-byte to openai/codex main
6cfe29984(codex-rs/models-manager/models.json). The change also brings in:0.144.0minimum client versions for the 5.6 family;gpt-5.4row with its Terra upgrade;gpt-5.4-miniandgpt-5.2rows (#44250).Upstream stopped shipping top-level
base_instructions(#43604). The pinned-row projection inmetadata.tsnow derives that field frommodel_messages.instructions_templatefor every row, as it already did forgpt-6-astra. Without this, native row-shape checks and the Daybreak alias rewrite lose their instructions. Effective windows are unchanged, becauseNATIVE_OPENAI_CONTEXT_OVERRIDESstill applies on top of the pinned rows.Tests that encoded the old pin were updated in place:
0.142.2row, with the composed floor still0.144.0;base_instructions.codex-catalog.test.tsstays at its 7985-line cap. Stale comments innative-models.tsandmodel-entitlements.tsare corrected. The planning unit is indevlog/_plan/260923_gpt6_catalog_lanes/.Verification
bun run typecheck: exit 0 on this head.--no-verify, hosted CI is the gate). I did run tests before any source edit: in a scratch worktree I swapped in only the new JSON and ran the eight touching files. Result: 470 pass / 39 fail, against 479 pass / 30 fail on the base. The 30 failures common to both arecodex-cooldown-recoveryenvironment failures (the worktree sits under~/.codexand trips the test home guard). The 9 new failures are exactly the ones repaired in this PR.Checklist
