Refuse daemon and service operations that would end their own caller - #2209
Closes#2150, closes#2126, closes#2120 — AI-4771, AI-4737, AI-4731. Part of #2091 (AI-4694).
What & why
A hosted agent running kcap install --replace, kcap daemon service install (including --system, before any UAC elevation) or an install that replaces this user's kcap-service enrollment is refused when the daemon it would stop hosts it, naming the command to run from a terminal. kcap daemon stop exits 1 when it refuses a supervised daemon, and kcap's own .capacitor/ worktree directories stay out of git status.
Where to look
DaemonServiceCommands.RefuseHostedCallerAsync is the one rule for the target id, the --retire id and the current enrollment; a malformed --retire is left for the install to report.
Verification
This branch alone on main: dotnet build Capacitor.slnx with code style enforced, no errors.
…2150)
Replacing a kcap-service enrollment stops the daemon enrolled before it, so the guard covers that daemon too.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The changes add daemon and CLI version details to replacement prompts, prevent service operations from replacing a daemon that hosts their caller, return failure when a supervised stop is refused, and exclude generated worktree roots from Git status.
Replacement prompts use the attached daemon version and a probed replacement CLI version. Version descriptions distinguish downgrades from other replacements and omit unknown or equivalent displayed versions.
Service installation and ensure operations check whether the caller is hosted by a service the operation would replace, retire, or stop. A refusal provides rerun guidance.
A refused stop of a service-managed daemon returns exit code 1 and provides the service-stop command. Help text describes the refusal and the desktop app's service restart behavior.

Worktree creation resolves the Git common directory and repository prefix, then applies the exclusion to the repository file. Git-backed, handoff, and standalone creation paths invoke the exclusion logic.

Possibly related issues
kurrent-io/kcap-cli#2150: The changes refuse self-hosted service replacement and provide terminal guidance; they do not include post-replacement version verification.
kurrent-io/kcap-cli#2091: The changes address supervised-stop refusal and untracked .capacitor/ worktree paths.
kurrent-io/kcap-cli#2126: Refused supervised daemon stops now return a nonzero exit code and provide service-stop guidance.
The added tests cover probe outcomes, but an application-path test would improve confidence in replacement prompt behavior.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Requirements are grouped by linked issue. Changes were assessed from the whole-PR summary (merge base to reviewed head). No repository inspection was needed.
[#2150] Replacement refusal: HostedCaller.HostedBy checks the target service daemon ID, the parsed --retire target, and the current Windows enrollment. DaemonServiceCommands refuses install --replace, --system before elevation, and the ensure install path before the service manager runs. HostedCaller.Refusal gives an unhosted-terminal command. This meets the actionable-guidance option of the first acceptance item.
[#2150] Verification and version clarity: a verified install reports the running daemon version and unit binary path. DaemonVersionChange.Describe and the App takeover prompt state the current and target versions and disclose downgrades. The replacement CLI version comes from a fresh probe (DaemonMutationLane.CliVersionAsync). Tests cover refusal, the downgrade prompt, the fresh probe, and unknown or equal versions. This meets the second and third acceptance items.
[#2126] DaemonCommands.RefuseSupervisedStop returns exit code 1 and prints the daemon service stop command. DaemonStopSupervisedTests covers the exit code, the command text, the sanitized service ID with --keep-agents, and the unsupervised case. help-daemon.txt documents the app restart behavior. Retesting on Windows and legacy management is verification work, not a coding requirement.
[#2120] WorktreeManager.CreateAsync and CreateHandoffAsync call ExcludeWorktreeRootAsync. WorktreeRootExclusion.Apply adds one anchored .capacitor/worktrees/ line to the repository info/exclude. It keeps existing content and line endings, and it does not modify a line that is already present. Tests cover a clean status after launch, one entry after repeated launches, linked worktrees, subdirectories, unborn repositories, and retention after removal. No worktree prune call appears in the summary.
Unresolved uncertainty: The summary does not show a separate relaunch test. The repeated-launch test covers the same exclusion path. Hosted-caller ancestry checks return false on Windows, so Windows detection depends on the environment markers and enrollment checks. The summary shows both paths, so no unmet requirement is established.

Explanation
Each production change maps to a linked objective, and the supporting tests match those changes.
Hosted-caller detection (HostedCaller, ProcessTree.Descends, HostedAgent.DaemonId, and the AgentOrchestrator delegation) supports the [#2150] refusal. HostedAgent.DaemonId replaces a local hash so both sides compute the same ID.
Version reporting (DaemonVersionChange, DaemonLifecycleController.AttachedDaemonVersion, App.axaml.cs prompt changes, DaemonMutationLane.CliVersionAsync) supports the [#2150] version and downgrade acceptance item.
Install-side --retire parsing (ParseRetire) and the ensure refusal mapping (EnsureFlowMap, hosted_caller) support the [#2150] refusal.
The DaemonCommands supervised-stop change supports [#2126].
WorktreeRootExclusion, WorktreeManager Git common-directory resolution, and the handoff exclusion call support [#2120]. The common-directory refactor in ResolveGateKeyAsync keeps the existing gate-key behavior and supports exclusion in linked worktrees.
RecordingServiceManager.Status returns NotInstalled for a missing ID. This is a test helper change that supports the new refusal tests.
Test changes cover the production changes listed above.
The summary shows no unrelated feature, dependency, or API change. The commit subject about passing a method group is tied to [#2150].

Ensure can replace this user's enrollment too, and a failed attach must not report the previous daemon's version.

The repair and takeover prompts wait on the probe, so a missing executable must not keep them from showing.

Restrict --direct to the Windows service path.
372-375: Minor · Stability & Availability · Quick win
Restrict --direct to the Windows service path.
DaemonCommands enables --direct for every Windows daemon stop. This bypasses the detected manager, including WindowsScheduledTaskServiceManager. The daemon then exits successfully, while the Scheduled Task manager does not run its stop operation. WindowsTaskUnit does not relaunch after a daemon exit code of 0, so the scheduled daemon remains stopped instead of returning the required refusal.
Enable the bypass only when the selected manager is WindowsServiceManager. All other supervised Windows modes must retain the refusal and direct users to daemon service stop.

Pass version callbacks to the wizard takeover consumer.
1754-1759: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Pass version callbacks to the wizard takeover consumer.
Wizard lane Install and Repair mutations can enter the shared RecoverySurface.Takeover path. The wizard currently passes () => null for cliVersion and no daemonVersion or replacementCliVersion callback. The takeover prompt therefore omits the current and target versions and cannot disclose a downgrade.
The wizard already retains ObservedEvidence.DaemonVersion in DaemonEnabler, and the lane exposes the request-aware CliVersionAsync probe. Expose the retained daemon version and pass it with lane.CliVersionAsync. This is a localized correction.

Review comment at @src/Capacitor.App/App.axaml.cs around lines 1754 - 1759:
Expose the retained ObservedEvidence.DaemonVersion through DaemonEnabler, then
update the wizard’s ConsumeMutationOutcomesAsync call to pass
graph.Daemon.DaemonVersion as the daemonVersion callback and
lane.CliVersionAsync as replacementCliVersion; keep the existing null cliVersion
callback unchanged.

Cover the IOException through the replacement controller path.
The current test proves that CliVersionAsync returns null, then separately proves the already-tested WithVersionChange behavior. It does not prove that ConfirmAndReplaceAsync receives that null through the injected lane.CliVersionAsync delegate. Add a controller-path test with the lane delegate configured to throw IOException, and assert that the replacement prompt is still shown without a version disclosure.
