Hook dependency installers can invoke Git while GIT_DIR and GIT_INDEX_FILE still point at the user's repository. Nested clones can then inspect or rewrite the user's index.

Isolate npm, Bun, Dart pub, Cabal, Julia Pkg, Composer, and SwiftPM dependency commands from repository-local Git state.
