Summary

image
  • add a provider-command-code worker behind llm-router using the Command Code Provider API
  • namespace the live model catalog as command-code/*, route Claude models through Anthropic Messages, and route other models through OpenAI Chat Completions
  • support streaming, aborts, tool calls, multimodal tool results, provider-reported usage, fail-closed ZDR, and last-known-good catalog refreshes
  • extend the shared provider contract testkit and changed-worker CI discovery for both wire dialects

Verification

  • cargo fmt --manifest-path provider-command-code/Cargo.toml -- --check
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path provider-command-code/Cargo.toml --all-targets --all-features --locked -- -D warnings
  • cargo test --manifest-path provider-command-code/Cargo.toml --all-features --locked
  • cargo test --manifest-path crates/provider-integration-testkit/Cargo.toml --features provider-command-code --locked
  • real-engine shared provider contract passed for Chat Completions and Anthropic Messages
  • changed-worker discovery tests: 34 passed
  • strict worker validator and binary manifest check passed

Refs MOT-4526

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 1a54d

This PR adds the Command Code provider and expands routing and streaming support. It is mergeable with explicit owner follow-up because new-worker guidance may fail without a connected worker, child session naming is ambiguous, and one schema test may pass without validating files after a read error; these are bounded correctness and test-quality risks, not release-blocking failures.

Poem

I’m a rabbit with code in my den,
Two dialects now hop into play.
Models bloom in a namespaced row,
Streams carry bright events away.
Tests guard each schema and flow.

Make no_orphan_schema_goldens fail loudly and reuse golden_file_name.

Two points in this test reduce its value:

  • Line 74-77 returns Ok(()) behavior on any read_dir error. A missing or unreadable tests/golden/schemas directory makes this test pass silently. Panic instead, so the cause is visible.
  • Line 78-79 accepts every directory entry. A subdirectory or a non-JSON file such as .gitkeep fails the assertion with a misleading message. Filter to files with the json extension.

Line 72 also repeats the mapping already implemented by golden_file_name. Reuse the helper so both tests derive names from one place.

Replace the case.id == "command-code" string checks with ProviderCase capability fields. The testkit now branches on the provider id in several places. Each new provider with the same needs must edit each branch. Add descriptive fields to ProviderCase, for example requires_model_discovery: bool and a model-catalog fixture selector, and branch on those instead.

  • crates/provider-integration-testkit/src/contract.rs#L115-L148: gate wait_for_discovered_models on a requires_model_discovery field.
  • crates/provider-integration-testkit/src/protocol.rs#L36-L40: select the model-catalog fixture from a ProviderCase field instead of the id string.

The Command Code arm duplicates the generic bearer arm.

The new arm body is identical to the CredentialMode::ApiKey arm at Line 455. Only the guard ordering matters, because the Command Code Anthropic case would otherwise fall into the x-api-key arm. Consider moving the family guard instead, so the bearer assertion exists once.

Extract the shared image-part builder.

flush_result_images and chat_user_content build the same image_url part with the same data:{mime};base64,{data} format. anthropic_content and anthropic_result duplicate the Anthropic source block in the same way. A small helper per dialect removes the duplication and keeps both encodings in one place.

Make the child session_id rule unambiguous.

Lines 132-139 require every child to receive a session_id, then allow omitting it so the engine mints one. These instructions can produce inconsistent naming and collision behavior. If omission is only a fallback, state that condition explicitly. Otherwise, remove the omission option.

...
-Omitted entirely, the engine mints an opaque UUID row in the console.
+If you cannot choose a safe name, omit `session_id` and let the engine mint an opaque UUID.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Do not require a connected worker when creating a new worker.

When the task creates a new worker, Lines 320-321 provide no usable existing name, and the target worker is not connected yet. This lookup can fail before the agent reaches the required SDK reference at Lines 323-338. Scope engine::workers::info to changes on existing workers, and instruct new-worker tasks to use the SDK reference or a specifically named runtime worker.

Proposed clarification

+Before extending an existing worker, inspect it with `engine::workers::info { name }`.
+For a new worker, use the SDK reference below and inspect a runtime worker only when a concrete name is available.
