feat(sidebar): set and show herdr's live agent name from the row menus - #736
Conversation
agent.rename on the pane's live agent, null to clear. herdr keeps the rule and uniqueness: invalid_agent_name, agent_name_taken and agent_not_found pass through errorResponse unchanged. The route is on the machine proxy allowlist and the local alias; shared/agent-name.ts holds the name pattern for the browser and the demo, and server/agent-name.ts reads its length from it.
…ents list Agent name… follows Rename pane in a workspace row's menu while herdr lists a live agent in the pane, and an Agents row gets a ⋯ and right-click menu with it. The dialog checks herdr's rule as the name is typed, offers Clear name while the agent has one, and shows herdr's own refusal for a name another agent holds. The Agents row leads its second line with the name in mono, the kind beside it. The demo answers the route on its fixture agents.

The worktree check reports a codex agent on the worktree's pane before it opens that row's menu, so herdr lists the pane as an agent and the menu offers "Agent name..." after "Rename pane", as the row menu does for every pane herdr lists. The expectation predated that item.
# Conflicts: # CHANGELOG.md
A remote PC's bridge authenticates the proxy with its registered bridge token, so the paths the proxy forwards are listed as bridge paths. The rename endpoint was not, and a remote rename answered 401 while the other pane controls worked. The contract test renames through the proxy against a bridge whose browser token differs from its bridge token.
- AgentSidebar: read the current agent name from rows when the user clicks Agent name instead of using the stale menu-open snapshot, so a rename by another client between open and click is seen. - AgentSidebar: useCallback for the menu close handler so RowMenu's placement layout effect does not re-run on every render. - CHANGELOG: add PR #736 link. - UI regression: cover the Agent name dialog overlay/escape/focus restoration sequence.

What changed
herdr lets an agent carry a unique live name (
herdr agent rename, RPCagent.rename {target, name|null};[a-z][a-z0-9_-]{0,31}, unique among live agents, gone when the agent exits) that other tools address it by (herdr agent prompt <name>). The web had Rename pane (a display label) but no way to set, clear or see that name. Now:POST /api/agent/rename { pane_id, name: string | null }->{ ok: true }(server/herdr/client.ts agentRename->agent.renamewith the pane id as target). The server validates the body shape only (missing_pane_id,invalid_name400); herdr keeps the rule and the uniqueness, and its refusals pass througherrorResponseas they are:invalid_agent_name,agent_name_taken,agent_not_found(a pane without a live agent). Route on the machine-proxy allowlist (MACHINE_PROXY_PATH) and the/api/machines/local/alias, so remote PCs work.AgentRenameRequestand the catalogue line inshared/protocol.ts;shared/agent-name.tsholds the name pattern for the browser and the demo (kept out ofprotocol.ts, which reads the environment at load).server/agent-name.tsreads its max length from it.⋯(no width at rest, always on touch) and a right-click menu with the same item.AgentNameDialog: a mono field checked against herdr's rule as you type (aria-invalid, the rule under the field, Save name disabled), a hint that reads the command back, Clear name while the agent has one, and herdr's own refusal shown verbatim on a conflict. The Agents row leads its second line with the name in mono (the kind takes the label's place beside it) and the tooltip keeps it. A rename from herdr's TUI/CLI reaches the page throughpane.updated->session-changed(fix(collector): refresh sessions on herdr lifecycle events #725), no new subscription.site/demo/transport.ts) answers the route on the fixture agents with the same codes; i18n ko/ja/zh; CHANGELOG; DESIGN.md (menu, dialog, Agents row).herdr RPCs used:

herdr's refusals keep the status
errorResponsegives every herdr error (404), as for the other routes; the client shows the code's message, never the status.A remote PC's bridge must carry this route: an older bridge answers its own 404 for
agent/rename(the usual bridge-update flow). The Agents row menu offers Agent name… alone for now; a row for an agent herdr does not list (the bridge's OmO recognition) has no menu, since
agent.renamewould answeragent_not_found.
